I bought my percolator from Lakeland. I read the one star reviews on here and nearly cancelled. I feel its necessary to comment however.1. The percolator cycles for some time for the water to drain through the grounds before the green light comes on. After about a week I got used to the quantities and now get strong well flavoured coffee (two 250ml cups). I use less coffee now than with my cafetiere which always made cool coffee- I like it hot. I use Asda extra special coffee). My percolator was to replace a Kenwood retro which always made nicely flavoured, lukewarm coffee but had to be watched as it didn't switch off on its own.2 I agree that the markings inside are difficult to see but I guage it from the handle screws.3.I've never had a coffee maker that didn't have some grounds get through and cafetiere coffee has lots of fine grounds that get through and some larger ones stuck to the side if your not careful putting the plunger in.4. A coffee percolator is DESIGNED to allow the water to flow naturally through the coffee, it NOT an espresso machine! The water isn't pushed through the coffee. Some reviewers seem to suggest the older ones (Russell Hobbs steel-bring it back!) worked in a different way?????5.The reviewer that suggested pricking out blocked holes with a pin will widen the holes! I use a stiff nylon washing up brush which works perfectly -NO BLOCKED HOLES! Don't leave the grounds in too long, they swell and stick in the holes. Leave to dry overnight and the grounds will shrink and will brush out.6. The person who stated that an old Sunbeam percolator could make twice the coffee in the same time would have Kelvin turning in his grave. The percolator always gives the same amount of energy to the water. It takes twice as long to boil twice the volume (ignoring heat loss to surroundings) because it needs twice the amount of energy.Overall I love this percolator and hope it works for a long time. It only uses 50W on standby measured using a wattmeter which keeps it surpringly hot. It's the best of all the machines I've owned over the years. Sadly, like many people these days, machines are bought without reading the instructions properly. Even I didn't notice one thing in the instructions even though it was highlighted. They then give negative knee-jerk reviews. NOTE the machine lost a star because it really only works reliably with 6 cup or higher water level, not 4.

First a disclaimer – I bought this percolator from a high street store due to my previous 2 (another cheaper brand) not lasting much more than a year and I wanted to ensure I could easily return this one if the same thing happens.I use my percolator a lot, at least twice a day weekdays and 3 or 4 times a day at weekends, about 3 weeks after purchasing this one I noticed that the coffee seemed to be brewing weaker. As I am a bit slapdash in how I measure both water and coffee (as I have never really trusted the coffee basket guide) I first put this down to user error. After one day of brewing 3 pots in a row and having them all turn out like dishwater even when I upped the coffee and the strength of the coffee,I finally realised what the problem is. The brew basket for this percolator has a base of tiny pinholes for the coffee to filter through (unlike the cheaper brand ones that have larger holes) and due to its constant use and the fact I only ever give it a quick rinse between brews the holes were clogged up. This meant that the water was mostly by-passing the basket during its cycle as it was not filtering properly and so remained full. A thorough clean later, with all holes clear, it once again returned to brewing a decent cup of coffee. The only other thing I would say is that it takes a bit of trial and error to find the right coffee that works for you, and the right amount for your taste. I would not necessarily trust the guide on the basket as I have always found it requires more coffee than the guide suggests if you want a decent tasting cup.

I've tried dozens of percolators in my time and have been mostly very dissapointed with them, they either dropped to bits, didn't heat up correctly and spoiled the coffee or offered me burnt brews and even scalded me when it tangled in the cable. So I did some research on the web and found that just about everyboddy recommended this one. I must admit that I paid a bit more for this one than I usually would but I was so fed up with keep having to buy them (I had 3 within the space of 6 months) that I thought it was false ecconomy keep buying the rubbish ones. I'm also a coffee adict and love to drink it throughout the day.I am so glad I bought this one. It percolates the coffee just right and keeps it hot until I drink it.It looks nice and there's no restrictive cable securing it to the base so I can carry it to the table easily and just pop it back on the stand to keep HOT (Not warm like the others did). The only downside i've found with it is that you can't see how much coffee/water is left in it, you have to remove the coffee container from it to see the measuring guide (which is 10 cups). but I'm getting used to the weight of it and can more or less guess how much coffee is left in it so it isn't such a big deal. I think it's brilliant.

After wearing our way through a number of filter machines I suddenly recalled seeing the coffee percolater in use at home when I was a kid. I took a look on line and saw the Dualit percolator in the same design as the kettle and toaster we already had. I saw a couple of reviews were a little negative with regards the taste of the coffee produced but generally the reviews were good, so ordered it. On arrival we were very pleased with the quality of the percolator and the design, it looks very smart. We put it straight to use and reached the moment of truth! The coffee was excellent with, we thought, a more rounded taste than with a filter machine and with less of an after taste.Has to be cleaned every time you use it and there are a couple of slightly awkward spots to clean but it’s no great shakes to do. We now no longer use a filter machine at all and all our coffee is percolated. The percolator can be used as an on table serving jug and the heater stays on for 30 minutes after the percolating has finished if you leave the percolator on its stand, there is a very clear red light showing ‘on’ which changes to green to show ‘ready’. All in all excellent, love it, get one.

(Before I dive in and write my review, I must just say how amused I was reading the 1 star reviews. Highly entertaining stuff!)Having owned and used many Dualit products down the years I knew that I could trust the engineering and build quality. This item was no exception. It's the same technical process as any other self contained percolator so the removable, cleanable components are as standard. The holes in the basket and lid are fairly indicative of the grind of coffee required. Too fine and you will end up with grounds in the coffee. Too coarse and the coffee will be too weak. It really is that simple.Makes great coffee which is then kept at a temperature sufficient that it remains perfectly drinkable for hours without scalding. Now here's the thing. As a result of accidentally reading the manual (I don't read manuals) I discovered reference to its tea making abilities. After a couple of quick rinses through with plain water and a bit of a scrub, I dropped in some coarse leaf tea, and voila! A pot of great tea which, as before, stayed at the perfect temperature for hours, and never becomes tannic.Only slight problem is now I shall have to buy another!

I had been getting frustrated with most modern coffee making devices and had thought the percolator was extinct, however, I saw this and bought it nearly 18 months ago and find it everything I hoped. Easy to clean & far less messy than a cafetier. The gentle whooshing noise it makes has caused much amusement, having been mistaken for a bird by my daughter. It pours without dripping - unlike many filter jugs and also is stronger. Ideal for generating mugs of real coffee for cold mornings.I would add one proviso - for delicate (expensive) coffee where you are trying to makee the most of the flavour you have paid for, using a coffee filter & drinking immediately will get the most out of the beans.Update - over 6 years old now and still going strong - no escaping grounds and about the only thing I have noticed recently is that I think that it may be now running slightly warmer after the coffee is ready - not a problem since I don't like stewed coffee and drink it when its ready.

After years of enjoying caffitiere coffee decided to invest in a percolator. First one I ordered which was a different make leaked before attempting a first brew so saw this one and ordered in exchange. Read several negative reviews but to be honest they must have been doing something wrong. Ok first time coffee came out like coloured water but adjusted the strength amount of liquid and now I get perfect brews every time. Its simplicity itself to keep clean. Couple of tips. First read the instructions carefully and be patient, practice a few brews first. Second invest in a 89p soft toothbrush to help clean the small holes in the coffee holder.Third don't pour the coffee as soon as the green light comes on as there will still be liquid in the coffee holder, let it all filter through takes about a minute. Fourthly dont put the silver top on the coffee holder brews better without. Fifth enjoy.

Perculating is by far the best way of getting a good home produced cup of coffee. I had a hob type perclator given me a few years back and have not looked back.Having this electric one is certainly easier to use in the sense of setting it up, turning it on and leaving it to do it's bit.It does depend on how much coffee is drunk as to how useful this will be as there is a minimum amount of water needed - a rough estimate is about 2 mug fulls. If it's just me wanting one mug of coffee I need to return to my hob perculator. The measurements inside the perculator are not very easy to see so I have found going back to the old system of putting so much coffee in per cup/mug and just putting in theamount of water required straight from the mug far easier bearing in mind the minimum level. If living in a hard water area the water needs to be filtered to aviod a scale build-up.

We've owned a succession of dismal filter coffee makers over the years. Without exception, they leak, spill grounds everywhere and make lukewarm coffee. When our latest expired a few days ago, just as the warranty expired, as always, we decided to try something different, and already owning a Dualit toaster (the best toaster we've ever owned) we decided to try this. At last! A hot cup of coffee. OK, there's a few bits in the bottom of the cup (so don't drink them, d'oh!) but it makes fabulous coffee and keeps it at a proper temperature. If it lasts a decent length of time, I will be ecstatic; as it is I'm "just" delighted with it. It's slightly more difficult to clean and set up than a filter maker, and I wish there was an On/Off switch, but overall it was definitely the right decision.

Once you've tasted a cup of coffee made in this beauty you'll never bother with a filter machine again - it's a no-brainer. Rich, aromatic, crystal clear and steaming hot perfection. It's as easy to use as a filter machine and mercifully less noisy, twice as easy to clean (all stainless steel), takes up half the counter space of a filter machine and looks handsome when you bring the cordless pot to the table if you're entertaining. Percolator technology has come a long way since the sixties - the only refinement this lacks is an auto cut-out switch or on/off knob on the pot or plate so you must remember to turn it off at the socket when you're done.By the way it keeps the brew in perfect condition and temperature for well over an hour without stewing. A top-notch product.

Having been through various coffee makers over the years, all I can say is that this is the best coffee maker I have ever had. Forget the current craze for coffee drippers, this percolator makes the most superb coffee you can get, every time, it always hits the spot. After using my coffee maker daily for more years than I care to remember, it is still going strong. At one point the lid needed replacing, I was sent a new part from Ducalit as soon as I requested one. So now I do not put any pressure on the lid when opening, I slide a blunt blade under it to pop it open. I've been doing this for years with no problem.I would highly recommend this item and should my current Ducalit percolator ever expire,I will certainly buy another one.

I bought one of these over 6 months ago and have used it daily ever since. It is easy to use and produces lovely coffee. We chose this gadget because I drink black coffee and most machines only really cater for expresso type coffee or are the type which do not push the water through the coffee under pressure producing the best flavour. I also didn't want to start buying individual little plastic packs of coffee because they are expensive and are not very environmentally friendly. Everyone who has coffee from our machine declares they are going to buy one. I do agree with the writers who say grains get through but that is only when it is full to capacity and can be prevented by careful pouring-in ay case for 1-4 cups it is fine.

I have read the other reviews on this product. To those people who say that they are getting grounds in the machine - USE A COARSER GROUND coffee. Cafetiere quality is much too fine. Also, what idiot would want to take the lid of a boiling water vessel. The whole idea of percolating is for the water to rise up the tube and fall back into the basket! I am over the moon to actually get a decent cup of coffee after using cafetieres and filter machines and I don't find it a pain to prepare. For coffee I use the marks on the inside of the basket (very clearly marked), and I measure the water in the mugs I am using.. I can actually taste the coffee. Incidentally, I used a percolator for 25 years, and it worked exactly the same.

We were looking for a replacement filter coffee machine and remembered my uncle having a coffee percolator so started to look into them. We saw the Dualit one, which compliments other dualit kitchen appliances we have, and after looking at reviews - decided to give it a try.We love it, the design is neat and it looks good in my kitchen. Our first attempt at making coffee with the percolator was a big success and we love it. We find the coffee is hotter than that of a filter machine and the flavour was spot on. Yes the filter needs cleaning after every use, but that was the same with a filter machine and it's no hardship. Would definitely recommend.

Welcome back to a coffee percolator. I won't repeat all the stuff on many positive reviews of this item, but I agree with them all. But I'll say a few words firstly on flavour. You get a different taste sensation through using a percolator; a greater intensity of flavour; a more all-round hit. Secondly in my opinion this brew method is more economical than by using a cafetiere, I suppose because the hot water is repeatedly trickled through the ground coffee. We use fewer beans and get stronger coffee with greater predictability. We are delighted with the purchase and each day we we look forward eagerly to our pot of coffee.
