(I've given one star for wifi because it is NOT a router, it is a modem)The wifi router/modem supplied by my ISP was bugging me. At first the wifi kept dropping out or when streaming online content (iplayer/netflix etc) it would buffer or switch to the low quality. This eventually annoyed me and I bought a wifi mesh system and switched the routers wifi off completely. This seemed to work for a little while but then even that started throwing problems and the router needed resetting several times a day, annoying when you're in the middle of a film and the internet just dies. (The wifi mesh was working, just not the router)Since I've had the Draytek Vigor, ping is the lowest I've ever seen on my wifi mesh (12ms),download and upload speeds are up too, but more importantly it's super reliable. I had to spend an hour or so setting it up when I first got it as I'm with talktalk that requires specific settings that have to be manually entered. Since then I haven't touched it and I've never had any problems. Streaming is now always in HD and load times for stuff is negligible. The connection is now super stable which means that my other linked devices now work better too (wifi cameras, smart thermostat, smart lighting etc).Yes, it seems expensive for a simple modem, but it just works. And works really well. Theres no point having all the bells and whistles in one box if it needs constant attention.

I bought this after experiencing issues with an old Netgear ADSL modem/router, as well as a dodgy Netgear D7000-200UKS Nighthawk modem / router which was bought to replace it. I needed an ADSL modem to go with a Netgear Orbi WiFi router / mesh system which I just wanted to work reliably. The Draytek Vigor 130 had very good reviews in a number of broadband forums as well as on Amazon and the product offered "reliability" as well as plug and play. I'm pleased to say that it delivered on both.I'd read a number of reviews about the need to change it into bridge mode to stop it from running an unnecessary DHCP service (as this would be provided by the router),but found that there apparently several ways to enable bridge mode using the user interface. I'd also read a warning about this preventing access via the user interface, so after a bit of agonising, I decided to try plugging it in and not do anything pre-emptive. It quickly detected an ADSL connection and I updated the firmware from a local copy I'd downloaded in advance (using the "BT" version and the "ALL" file) after first backing up the configuration settings. The modem then connected to the Orbi which offered an interface for the ADSL account details and WiFi set up. That was it! Very happy. Draytek seem like a good company with lots of satisfied customers. I will contact them about the bridge mode guidance for my own awareness.

To be clear, the Vigor 130 is just a modem and you need a separate router, but that's the setup that I prefer.I've just upgraded from 38mb to 76mb fibre. However, my line speeds were much lower than expected and during a BT engineer visit they diagnosed that my old BT Openreach modem was causing a drop in line speed from the master socket of 26mb. The suggestion was a new modem and I had three options.1. Use my ISP's modem/router (this doesn't allow me free choice of how to set up my network and has no guest network)2. Buy a new fibre modem (the Vigor 130)3. Buy my own modem/router (but there is nothing wrong with my existing router, an Apple Time capsule, which also provides me with backup facilities using Time Machine on my Mac)I'd read an article about DrayTek's Vigor 130 some time ago and it sounded like an ideal replacement for the BT Openreach modem should I ever need one. Boy, is it simple. Connect 3 wires (power, DSL to BT socket and ethernet LAN to modem), switch on and wait less than 2 minutes and you're up and running with no configuration required or changes to the router settings. If you're in the same position as me, dislike the idea of being locked in to an ISP's modem/router and want something that's easy to set up, you just have to put the Vigor 130 on your wishlist.

I bought this to use as a VDSL modem connecting my Talk Talk fibre connection into my home/small business network.Talk Talk like to pretend their HomeHub router is the answer to all home network challenges, but it isn't. In particular you cannot configure it to act just as a modem/bridge. The Draytek is one of the few products that can do this. It enables me to plug the Talk Talk connection straight into my existing router and keep all the functions my network has, rather than have to reconfigure a new router. My one minor gripe is that the write-up and instructions suggest you can just select Talk Talk as an ISP and the relevant config is just there, pre-installed. It isn't, or rather, what is there simply doesn't work. Fortunately, the Draytek product support website has excellent instructions on how to configure the modem appropriately. Once I had those, installation was easy.I've had this installed for a couple of months and it has worked reliably. No outages, though the Talk Talk network hasn't been quite as reliable as I would have liked (but that's the network, not the modem). I'm fully confident that this modem, like the Draytek ADSL modem that preceded it, is going to sit quietly in a corner and mind its own business for years to come.

This is a brilliant piece of kit. Simple instructions and dead easy to set up. If you are with a mainstream ISP in the UK, it is plug and play, no configuration to use this as a simple modem. Connect and power it up first, then connect to your router, it passes the internet signal via an Ethernet cable straight into your router WAN port for the router to use and distribute with no messing about required. An absolute breeze and does what it says on the tin. I haven’t explored it, but it also has a more advanced configuration user interface if you wish to access it via your PC, that’s one for the real techies. For me, I just wanted a solid reliable and separate modem to work with my new WiFi 6 router. This is THE solid simple solution to all those WiFi 6 Routers with no integrated DSL modem - all the new WiFi 6 routers I’ve seen are routers only, with no integrated modem. Been up and running now 24 hours, no drop outs just a great internet connection.UPDATE: July 2020: been running flawlessly now for nearly 2 months. Great plug and play modem if you are with a mainstream UK ISP.

I bought this to replace a failing Openreach fiber modem. I had initially been put off by a few older reviews on Amazon stating that this will not work with IPTV from the likes of TalkTalk so I contacted DrayTek UK to confirm before buying. It DOES work with IPTV but you will need to change some settings. From the menu select the Internet Access and enable both MPoA and bridge mode. The modem then acts in exactly the same way as a BT Openreach modem and IPTV is available via the WAN port on my ASUS RT AC68U router. Before any setting up I downloaded and installed the latest firmware from Draytek's UK website. Incidentally, they have a good FAQ on there too (the supplied manual is useless!)but you have to sign up and register your purchase to access it. It's probably worth changing the MTU default of 1520 to match your provider. For TalkTalk this should be 1500 and BT 1492 (I don't know what other providers recommend).Everything is running perfectly for me and I hope that this remains so for years to come. I'll come back and update should things change.

I appreciate that the ease of installation will depend on your application but for most ADSL/VDSL applications all you need to do with the Vigor is connect it to your Router's WAN port with an Ethernet Cable, the ADSL/VDSL socket and a power source. If you do need to configure it then it has the usual Web-browser admin interface and it's fairly self-explanatory.For my installation I simply unplugged the old Router provided by my ISP which was operating as a Modem connected to my Netgear Orbi hub and connected this in its place and the connection was established quickly. When we upgraded to Fibre Broadband a few weeks later the Vigor made the switch with no further intervention required. While Fibre speeds weren't spectacular initially it climbed steadily over the first couple of weeks eventually topping out at 76Mbps where it has stayed since. It's not the most exciting thing to look at but we've been using Draytek Modems for years at work with very few issues so I'll take function over form in this case.

Was thinking of buying a replacement router but realised my Nighthawk R7000 still worth retaining. Someone else mentioned they had an increase in download speed using a Nighthawk and was never been convinced the BT modem was the best. When I added the DrayTek modem to replace the BT modem it worked mmediately as other reviewers have said. Was pleased to see a stable gain in downstream speed. Consistently getting about 17.3mps. I'm quite far from the nearest BT cabinet and BT line checker says I can only get up to 17mps. I'm gaining about 2mps as in past it varied from the high 14 to an occasional 16.4.(generally about 15.4). Have a dreadful upstream speed and it too has improved it slightly.Basically happy to now get the maximum I can out of the present line and although early days every check so far is very stable and consistent. Was thinking of getting a newer combined VDSL router but glad I've kept a good router and getting as much as I can out of my wireless and hard wired system.

This is a great modem and if you use anyone but TalkTalk as your provider then is simple to set up. If like me you use TalkTalk with fibre and an Apple AirPort Extreme it is a little more complicated. For ADSL you just plug the unit in and connect up to your router and away you go but for Fibre which uses VDSL then you need to go into the modem settings and alter a few things. This took me a while as Drayteck have not updated their site to include the latest software issue for the Vigorous 130 so the images shown are not what you get on the screen but having said that it does after a little thought make sense and once the Apple Airport is configured all bursts into life and works very wellgiving excellent download speeds as one would expect with a modem of this cost.

Just works from the box.My router is an Apple Extreme and the DrayTek Vigor 130 ADSL/VDSL Ethernet Modem replaced my BT modem which is coming up to 8 years old.Simply switch off the Apple extreme and old modem. Merely unplugged the BT modem and replaced it with the DrayTek Vigor 130 ADSL/VDSL Ethernet Modem.Switch back on, closed my eyes for a couple of minutes due to one post one here with regard to the Apple Extreme, a man of little faith, and when I opened them, green lights and all is working well.SpeedNo increase, however, there may have been a very slight drop. However I have much more stable internet speed around the house, in fact, it’s the same in all rooms now.Happy.....yes.Streaming music with no problems.... Will update firmware at my leasure

Firstly, this is a modem only and not a router. If you buy this on its own, you can only connect one computer to it. There is no router, no wifi and no access controls.Until recently I was forced to use the ISP supplied modem/router what was built to a low price and it showed. Drops, lockups and poor range. I'd been using a decent router in AP-only mode for ages but wasn't allowed to get the PPPoE settings. This suddenly changed and when it did, I ordered this. From a user perspective, it is fast, stable and has some useful options. Since moving over, I've seen a 50% reduction in ping returns, a 5% increase of download speed but no increase in upload. So far no lockups,Draytek supply firmware updates to keep the bugs in check.Well worth the money

The only things I did were to update the firmware (easy) and to change the admin password, both of which are optional. In short you plug it in and it works. Please note folks that this modern expects your PPPOE authentication to be done by a separate router. If you don't know what this means buy an integrated modem/router instead. I currently have ADSL but this modem is forward compatible with VDSL i.e. BT Infinity so I am now also future proofed for a while.UPDATE: I have been using three of these for two years and they are absolutely solid with both BT broadband (ADSL) and BT Infinity (VDSL). Plug them in and they work when used with an external router. The only failure I have had was one power supply which was easily replaced.

I had a netgear d7000 modem/router prior to this but I wanted to upgrade to a whole home wifi system and I wanted the ability to use IPV6 (the new standard) that will fast become a necessity on your kit over the next couple of years.Netgear devices don;t support all versions of IPV6 and if you are a uk resident many different providers (ISP's) e.g BT Infinity use a version of IPV6 that netgear don;t offer on their modem/routers and have no plans to.This led me to getting whole home wifi (effectively the wireless router part) and this modem.Be aware this is a modem only and you will still need a router to connect to the internet wirelessly or via ethernet. As a stand alone modem its a great piece of kit and I would recommend it.

I'm also a bit of a DrayTek/Vigor fan and have used their kit for quite a number of years. The 130 was purchased to replace a faithful but elderly 120 in an attempt to 'future proof" my system. No setting up required (as usual) and so it worked straight away when plugged in and powered up. It seemed to have been delivered with pre-production firmware (3.7.6.1) - I suggest this as the latest firmware (3.7.8) is described by DrayTek as the"First Firmware Release". Whatever the reality once the 3.7.8 version wasInstalled the connection was rock steady with a consistent speed increase of 3%, for which I am grateful. It's also quite smart compared with my utilitarian 120 model.

I bought this to replace an old Vigor 120 which died from overheating. This is a DSL Modem, without routing capabilities, which is what I need. It provides a PPOE output, which can be fed into any router/firewall, and is automatically setup for most UK ISPs. If you do need to make any changes, it has an internal DHCP server, so you can connect it directly to your laptop and configure it easily. The instructions are clear and simple. I tested this with two different routers, a RT N66U wireless router and a LinkSys LRT214 Ethernet only router, with no problems. If you're in the market for a quality DSL modem (as opposed to modem/router), I highly recommend the Vigor 130.
