I'am not a great DBZ fan I was a while ago though. I played boutoudon 1,2,3 for SNES. At that time they where really great, one of the best thing is that is not all bout beating only. It involves tactics, when how do I use the energy or not use em? I really loved those games, that is why I bought Budokai, at first I was a bit dissapointed to be honnest, not about graphics or the chars that I didt not have. It was just the interface it didt not match with boutoudon at all. But once I got a bit familiar with them the game turned out to be quite good. Ok ok there are a few things I would rather have seen different. But hey no game is perfect right? One of the main area's of dissaprovel is that it is Jappanese entirely you will get Englisch subtitles tough. But I think they should have putten a little more effort then just putting subtitle.Graphics 9/10The graphics are great no doubt about it. The reason why I gave a 9 out of 10 is cause at some points characters move in eachother, Like when someone is grabbed by the throat the hand of the grabber dissapears. Wich makes the game loose a bit of realism.SFX 8/10The sounds are nice but get a little repeative.Music 6/10This low mark is not cause the music quality is poor, but most of it ain't the music most people would like to hear in a beat uuuuhm up guess it is too relaxing. The sound must give you a rush not calm you down in a beat em up I'd say. But some are qualified for beat em up music though.Story 8/10It is the actual DBZ story from Saiyan to Cell saga nothing new here. But !!! there are some alternitive outcomes based on who you play, wich is quite original. I would love to tell you them but they will count as spoilers so better you find out yourselves.Extra options 10/10Another nice thing about the game is that you have so much extra options like collecting skills editing your own chars to your own wishes. Wich gives the game a faint flavour of RPG making it one of the rare beat um up RPG. You also get some extra things. There are also a few mini games included in the game, but don't expect to much from them.Control 7/10I do not know if it is a bad thing or a good thing, but Death moves as the game calls it are not excecuted from a distance except one that is but that aint a good one. Most are like the neo meteo attacks on boutouden meaning it is like a grab attack. But that aint it too. Altough the death moves are difficult to excecute the opponent can block em with the greatest ease.Overall 8/10 (please read the text under this line for preventing any mistakes)I really recomend it for people who love fast beat em ups with a bit of depth with it. And for DBZ gamers I'd like to say ORDER NOW !! People who have doubts about the game and are not DBZ fans I say to rent first before buying.

I was lucky enough to actually play budokai recently, and I was genuinely suprised at how above average it is. I use 'above average' rather than good because, although this game is good, there is still a lot of work to be put in before they get it right. Anybody who has played the average/poor effort of bandai's Dragonball GT Final bout, will be pleased to hear this is a lot better. This is mainly because the game is faster. GT looked ok, but it lacked that essential Dragonball fighting speed that we so badly need. So, the speed then, as we have established, is there. The graphics are ok, but are not great, they certainly dont push the PS2 for power. Also in the budokai mode, you can get points to build up your character, of which you can develop new moves for, which adds some depth and longetivity. The story mode is good, if not almost great, where you can choose to progress either as Goku or Gohan through the saiyan saga up to the cell saga. This brings me onto the next point. Budokai is created by infogrames, which, is a british/european developer. No offence, but budokai utterly reeks of 'outsider development'. I think they need to do a bit more research in terms of the series. Why not go up to the Buu saga? Why the fudge have they put in Raditz and Great Saiyaman as characters? Why not SS4 Goku, or Bebi Vegeta etc...?(I know they are GT characters, but they would have been cool secret characters.) It seems that they have all watched the programme a few times, then decided to make a game on it.Enough negative vibes though, Budokai is definately worth buying if you are a DBZ Fan, totally. If not, then try before you buy.

Okay, lets get this over with, i love this game more than all the other dbz games out there, as it just appeals to me and looks like that after this game it just went a bit off, even though the other games are great.Right, well, the story mode covers the story from the Saiyan Saga to the cell games saga (if you're a dbz fan you know what you're getting), and it is actually a really good story mode. I have a bit of a gripe that the audio is in japanese, but you can just import a american copy of this game. the thing i REALLY love about this game are the cut scenes. now, you may be thinking "Cutscenes aren't that impressive" but, if you look at all the other games'"cut scenes" you will understand: these cutscenes are actual cutscenes made to recreate scenes from the anime, which is really welcome, unlike other games where you get this text cutscene rubbish. The graphics are quite good for its time, not amazing, but good, and it all just flows together. same goes for the sound. The gameplay is still lovely to use, even if it feels a bit dated, and not that user friendly if you have played the newer dbz games, but it is still fun. You get story mode, world tournament mode, a versus mode and a mr satan mode (if you unlock it), which are all really fun.So bottom line: i LOVE this game, it is just so amazing and good to look back at this game. if you want to see (arguably) the best dbz game out there, check it out.

Although this game is a beat'em up, it is nothing along the lines of tekken or MK. Coming from the point of view of a person who has never experienced the DBZ phenomenon, i would say this beatemup was a nice experience - there is a lot of skill and timing involved which may appeal to some and not others. The action is non stop, and there are some seriously juicy moves at your disposal, most of which have a nice little animation. Including the ability to kick people into mountains and blow them up is a nice touch too.Coming from the point of view of a DBZ fan, there are mixed feelings. I think they made the game perfectly, IF they were intending on making a sequel. Not including Buu was a big dissapointment, especially as he featured on the back cover, along with Dabura and babidee. The story mode is fun, especially if you want to learn Japanese(there are subs but no dubs), and it includes funny parodies, like what would have happened if vegeta had killed goku, and if cell had accidentally absorbed krillin instead of 18 (it aint a pretty sight). All in all this is a great game, very challenging and extremely action packed, but it deserves a sequel. Without one, i think it would have been a whole game concept wasted.

This is without a doubt the best DBZ game ever made. When I had Dragonball GT: Final Bout on the PS1 I loved that game to bits because they captured the characters perfectly, but the thing lacking in the game was a solid story mode which is Dragonball Z: Budokai's strong point. The Story mode in Budokai is excellent. It is just like if you really are watching Dragonball Z on Television and you are taking part in it. The Saiyan, Namek and Android Saga's are very detailed in the game and follows the same storyline as the Television Series. The graphics are very detailed and the surroundings are like those in the TV Series Saga's.Other modes included in the game are the World Tournament Mode,Duel Mode, Edit Skills and Legend Of Mr.Satan.There are lots of secret characters to find and you also have to find the Seven Dragonballs as well so you can wish for your ultimate fighter. This game is a God-send to every DBZ Fan who owns a PlayStation 2, I really advice you to purchase it, you won't regret it!

When i first bought the game i was not sure what to expect, because this was the first one for the PS2. The other dragon ball games were only okay, and I found were rather hard to handle (e.g. doing a kamehameha) with this game the controls are very simple and the levels are much greater. There is a selection of 22 different characters ranging from future trunks to captain ginyu. To turn into a super saiyan is very simple all you need is the l1 and l2 buttons. The shopping mode is fun allowing you to purchase moves and supportr techniques. All the characters have a wide range of moves and a choice of 2 different costumes. The only problem i find with this game is that it only takes you to the end of the cell saga, and you miss alot of the plot.the cut scenes are good fun with great graphics for when you pull off the characters death-moves (e.g. Spirit Bomb).THIS IS AN OVERALL EXCELLENT GAME AND A MUST HAVE IN THE COLLECTION OF DRAGON BALL GAME SAGA.

...This game looks good to the dragon ball Z fan who wants a game to simulate the fighting in the series, but sadly the games graphics, although attractive and similar to the cartoon, look rather odd in 3d and look sort of old fashioned. This game has loads of different modes and you can even be Mr. satan (herkule) most characters can transform into a different state of fighting eg. goku - who initially begins as normal, then goes into kaioken x2 x5 then x10, then super saiying 1 + 2. To do these you need a certain amount of energy and if you go below this energy you revert back to the previous form.in conclusion - beat em up wise - it will be quite poor compared to the more famous titles (tekken, etc)but to the dragon ball Z fan like myself, your more than likely going to buy this regardless.Still a very nice game though.

this is by far the best DBZ game yet! the graphics are brill and the game play is amazing. i first thought you could only be teenage gohan but it turns out you can be the great saiyaman too! once story mode is done there isnt much left to do, but you can have loads of fun cracking the levels in world match (thats how you unlock the great saiyaman and the mr saten mode!) after that you can spend loads of time buying skills to make the perfect warrior which i think is great! the only bad thing is that story mode is easy and takes about 2 hours. this game is better than tekken and other street combat games. the moves are also really realistic which makes it so much like the actual cartoon.for all DBZ fans this is a MUST BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!for all non DBZ fans this is a MUST BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't say that I have any problem with this game what so ever! Oh and by the way I happened to grab an english version of this game in the United States! The story line and fighting sequences went together hand in hand with the series. though I have already beaten this game time and time again I do still come back to it. I have no need for any other video games any more. If I did have to say something bad about this game I would have to say that the combo moves are a bit difficult to perform, let alone memorize. A true gamer wouldn't complain though, because this helps to exercise memory within the mind, and also gives the gamer better timing and cordination. As a fellow gamer I seriously do recommend buying this game,as soon as possible.

I like everything about this game! The Duel is really fun to do,you can fight as 1P vs 2P and more.Duel takes a little bit of time to load, and it's the same with practice. I really like how they made it so the characters speak i Japanese with English subtitles because that's how I prefer anime. The story,is magnificent,it goes from the Saiyan saga to the Android Saga! You can play as 23 different characters! There is also the World Tournament, which you can compete in to get cash to spend on skills.I recommend this to any Dragon Ball Z fan who has a PS2.

I'd previously played all of the other Dragonball Z games before playing this original, from Budokai 2-3 to Budokai Tenkaichi 1-3 and Burst Limit and Raging Blast. Even still to complete my collection i thought i'd buy the original, despite being very dated, the game still proved entertaining enough for the franchise. adding what the others did not keep to such depth; the cinematics; the cinematics were dated yet very well done, making this game very short and sweet. Delivery on this product was superb, came within 2-3 days of dispatch.

I cant believe DBZ is finaly out on the PS2.I havent played this game yet. But have seen clips and pictures. All i can say is this game looks great and as a fan have already ordered it. So for all you fans out there who are thinking whether or not to buy it. I say go for it. You know you're only gonna regret it later if you dont.Oh and for those of you that dont know what Budokai means im pretty sure it means Tournament.

I think this game is the best game ever! I need only 10 captuls and it is still good. Vegeta is the best of them all, Multiplayer is the better bit. I have heard about dragonballz budokai 2. I am looking forward to it, it has better backgrounds, characters, grapics and better moves. The characters include KID BUU! and hopefully Super saiyan 3 Goku!

When i first played this game i felt a little costricted about the number of initial characters but once id been on the game for a short time this all change and i found the game a rather enjoyable experience. This game could keep you occupied for hours on end with things to unlock and buy. Id recomend his game to any manga or animie fan.
