We have recently installed our Dimplex Zamora to replace a defunct & expensive-to-run real flame gas fire, & must echo other reviewers' remarks on the realism of the Dimplex 'Optiflame' flame effect in this product.I say installed, when frankly all you do is unbox it (very well-boxed & protected, btw), plonk it on the hearth, push it against the wall, stick the coals of your choice on artistically then plug it in & it's ready to go. No flue necessary. It also comes with rear screw-mounting holes if you require, but I don't feel these are necessary either, as it's perfectly stable. We researched a replacement fire extremely thoroughly, both on the web and by visiting various fireplace specialists to judge in person the quality, design & flame-realism of both wall-mounted & freestanding electric fires before buying this model, so it wasn't a quick impulse purchase, believe me.Although recently it hasn't exactly been the weather to long-term test the efficiency of the actual heat output of the unit, we've tried both 1kw & 2 kw settings and would confirm that it blows out hot air Bigtime, as you'd expect from any 2kw fan heater, frankly. The heat vent blows downwards & away from the fire, towards the floor btw, so it's OK to mount below, say, a wall-mounted 50" plasma TV or your priceless 17th century oil painting which you wouldn't want direct heat blowing up onto. This is clearly more sensible & room-heating practically than an upwards or outwards-blowing fan heater, as heat rises, so I'm led to believe. You can stretch your feet out underneath it & get toasty toes in 1 minute. If you're close enough that is. I imagine.Back to the flame effect.......The Dimplex (a British Company, btw & most of their products are manufactured in the UK) patented 'Optiflame' flame-effect is head & shoulders above the other weedy little synthetic-looking & repetitive flame effects on offer at either this price point or double the price. It is very realistic indeed and, as other reviewers have noted, psychologically warms you up merely by looking at it, without the fan heater bits being switched on. It's difficult to describe how much better it is than all the other flame-effect fires we checked out in person, you have to see them but it kind of emanates a realistic fire red glow beneath the gaps in the coals which is then reflected in the metallised mirror behind & then dramatically backlit by the apparent roaring & seemingly non-repetitive flames appearing to emanate from behind them. The flames are big. The mirror also makes the coal bed seem twice as big as it actually is. Clever stuff, Dimplex. Got me & several others fooled into thinking it was real. For a bit, anyway. It comes with a box of trendy white pebbles and one of small pieces of laquered real coal to arrange on the 'firebed', the latter of which we prefer, but this is just personal choice & we could always swap them round if we get bored I guess. Nice touch to be offered the choice though. With just the flame effect on, our Zamora is completely silent. With the fan heaters on, as you might guess, it makes a slight blowy noise but this is the nature of all fan heaters. Turn the TV up. It is not a convector heater, which is a unit with bare heating elements below relying on upward convection transmission of heat eventually to heat a space silently, but a serious piece of fan-heater with ultra-realistic flame effect designed to heat up a room quickly, then be turned off, essentially to minimise the use of your central heating outside the living room or wherever.A very nice piece of kit.

Bought this as I have been redecorating my lounge, needed a new fire but trying to keep to a budget. My 10 year old B&Q electric fire had come to the end of it's life and to be honest the spinning windmill kind of light effect wasn't really that great. Very pleased with the Zamora, yes the surround is plastic but unless your guests actually touch it and are snobby sorts it really doesn't matter! It's very smart, looks stylish and is effective. The shiny chrome against the black frame looks quite striking, and it has proved to be a great focal point for my lounge. The flame effect isn't quite as depicted in the picture but is still effective.I have only tried the pebbles so far as they got the best reviews (it comes with another pack with coal which I have yet to try) and when the heater has been on for a while they become tinged with black which looks quite realistic. The fan heater makes a quiet sound and is great if you want to sit by fire and warm up if you have turned the central heating off for summer. Thoroughly recommended if you want to spruce up your lounge without spending tons of money or getting a trendy (but hard work) woodburner!!

After being let down by two alternative fire suppliers we found this on Amazon. I was a bit unsure as we'd original looked for something a bit more modern, but there are only so many flat black screens you can have on your wall! Looked at the other reviews and took a chance on buying unseen, but no regrets whatsoever. It's a great fire. And it is really odd, but psychologically, it feels so warm with just the "flame effect" on, we've had to turn it off more than once!! And it's lovely in the late evening when the heating goes off and you just need a warm glow. Haven't had to use the heater much over Christmas, but it's absolutely great - and we have a relatively big room (21ft X 10ft).And the delivery .. . Tesco promised a fire in 3 days; 38 days later, no fire. Argos promised another fire in seven days. After 6 days they called to say it would be a further 20 days. Amazon; fire promised by 1pm on the 3rd working day. Received several texts and emails confirming and on d-day, text to say fire would be delivered between 10.54 [sic] and 11.54 by a named driver. At 11.04, the fire arrived!! Could not be faulted. Would thoroughly recommend.

It's always a worry when buying something like this unseen. The thing for me was the flame effect. My previous Fire was one of those with bits of cloth hanging over a fan and light bulbs. The noise of the fan was distracting and the pieces of cloth stuck together into one clump. This Dimplex fire is beautiful. It looks really smart and posh when switched off, especially with the white pebbles. When turned on the flame effect has to be seen to be believed. The pictures really don't do it justice. The individual flames dance in a seemingly never repeated pattern, the mirrored back giving the look of a deeper base and the coloured lighting gives the bed of pebbles a warm firery glow. And total silence. That's the thing, total silence when having the flame effect on. The heater makes the usual low fan noise of all fan heaters, but the flame effect is totally without noise. Wonderful. If you want an electric fire that isn't expensive, but still gives you a real flame effect then I recommend this one without hesitation.

I recently purchased a Dimplex ZAM20 fire after reading the good reviews for this product, and I must say it lives up to expectations and more.It came within 2days of ordering, I was E-mailed as to the time and date, approx time within an hour, with an option to change date or time. The product itself is quite lightweight, just place where you want it put on the real coal or pebbles, I find the coal effect very real, indeed it looks like a real fire and as a previous reviewer has mentioned- not a piece of cloth fluttring round a lightbulb. The whole effect has transformed my fireplace, it looks good with the silver coloured base and the black surround and I would say it looks much more expensive than it actually is.You wont regret it if you decide to buy.an exellent product, thankyou Dimplex.

This fire was exactly what I was looking for, it was cheap enough (on sale for 109.99)and just open it up and plug it in... I have had this for about a month now and I have it on most days with just the flame effect which is very realistic and makes my lounge look lovely and cosy. It does not look cheap like some fires and I have opted to use the white pebbles (comes with both these and the coal effect) which gives a modern look and they glow when the fire is on. The fan heater in it is not too noisy, I can't even notice it when the tv is on. It warms my room in about 15 mins (and I have high ceilings)then I turn that off and just have the flame effect on.All my friends have commented on how much better my room looks with this in and I agree - I love it and would recommend to anyone.

Then we came across the Dimplex Zamora. We were concerned that an occasional comment mentioned some noise on cooling. We were NOT disappointed.Amazon delivered the fire free of postage. It was easy to fit together. You have a choice of pebbles and coal effectEveryone comments how good the fire looks. The flame effect is perfect and very realistic.Even without any heating on in the house, the fire looks so warm and cosy it makes you feel warm!! Even with just the flame effect switched on only.I cannot praise this fire enough and the price was the cheapest ever.Highly recommended trying to decide to take the plunge and buy and electric flame effect fire.

Looks great. I use the real coal and it really looks as though the coals are lovely glowing embers. The other advantage of real coal is that when is gets a little dull or dusty looking you can just wash it, rub it dry with kitchen roll and put it back again looking like new. All my visitors have commented on how good the fire looks and I have to tell them all that I do not use the heat options as my home is warm enough with the central heating but it makes an excellent feature. Having the optiflame working it just feels warm only looking at it - so cosy in this dreadful weather.

Item delivered exactly within the hour time slot given. The fire is gorgeous, it does just what I want, bringing a feeling of warmth to my sitting room even without the heat being on. The pebbles look like a white hot ash bed and the flame effect is very realistic. The heat given out doesn't seem particularly powerful, I haven't had it on for long yet, maybe it will be better given more time, but the illusion of intense heat is seriously impressive. Bulb change looks to be a doddle. Highly recommended if you want a warm and cosy focal point to your room.

I have rated this product with 5stars because of the prompt, excellent delivery service, i was amazed with the 24hour delivery and it really is an impressive fire with the choice of pebbles or coals, this really is good for someone who cannot make up their mind what to have so nice to have a choice.should look lovely in the fireplace I ordered from one of the big Diy stores who I must say need to take a leaf out of this companies book because I have been waiting for 8weeks now for this product to arrive,so well done as I said impressive.

I bought this electric fire as a replacement for a similar Dimplex model which had recently reached the end of its life. It looks even better in real life than on pictures and does an impressive job of heating our large and draughty living room when it isn't quite cold enough to switch the central heating on to heat the whole house. It is much admired by everyone who sees it, and for ease of use, it is unbeatable, instantly giving a lovely classy focal point to an otherwise uninspiring room. Would recommend it to anybody! I love it!

It's just what I was looking for to replace my old gas fire in my dining room which isn't needed very often, but with the warm glow from coals or pebbles it looks cosy even without the heater on. My bedroom has a chimeny breast but no heating in it, so I bought a second one to go in my bedroom. It just finishes off the look of the room and if or when it gets very cold it's there for heat as well as looks. The price is also very reasonable and I did look round before purchasing this one.

Firstly the positives:It was easy to setup and when started soon warms up a typical room. As well, the heater does look nice (perhaps cool is the wrong word) and its lighting effects brighten up winter evenings. However, a slight drawback is the poorly positioned control switches for heating & lights. They are difficult to reach and awkward to handle for the elderly.Apart from that, it definitely is a good value electric heater.

10.4.2015

Bought this as it was over £100 cheaper than a high street diy store was offering it for and I'm glad that I did. It finishes off the fire surround perfectly and keeps a room 12 foot by 16 foot really warm and the flame effect is 100% better than they used to be. It was exactly as described by the seller and arrived well within the dates given, if it ever needs replacing i will be checking out this seller first.

have an old 1950's ugly open fireplace, this electric fire fitted in very well and improved the look dramatically. The fire itself is more attractive when on, than the picture looks. It is very light so can be moved around easily by someone with limited strength. The white pebble effect sounded a bit tacky, but when the fire is on they look good. Would recommend it to others.
