Just received it today and had no problems installing it myself. It arrived in the specified time (24 hours), so thank you, Amazon!I had bought an old oak fire surround which is tall, and needed a good sized fire to go with it, and this fits the bill perfectly. Lovely, clearly defined 'quick flames' fire effect (as you'd expect with Optiflame), and I am using a combination of the pebbles and coal together, so it looks like hot burning ash below, with fresh fuel on top, especially when it's just viewed in daylight (ie. fire effect not on).I plan to use it mostly for the fire effect, which is almost totally silent (there IS a very tiny little 'grinding' noise which happens every 3 seconds),

Bought fire to replace old one that had stopped working. Was surprised to find the Chrome part is plastic, as are the widest parts of the surround. It does look really good and the flame effect is great. It was supplied with bags of pebbles and bags of coal. I expected the coal to be ceramic or something but my black hands made me realise it is actual coal. I then found disposable glove x 1 had been added in the box and a magnet is a small bag saying Dimplex apparently this is for your choice of whether to have it on the fire or not - but this might not be good idea if small children or pets are around. The flame effect can be used without the heater being on. It has two settings 1KW and 2 KW and a thermostat.

This is an absolutely gorgeous electric fire. It looks lovely and smart, with great design and fender shape (although the chrome fender is actually coated plastic, but you would never know) As soon as I turned the light on, I was so impressed by how realistic the flame effect is, it makes the room so cosy. So far I have only put the white pebbles on, and it looks like hot ash coals. I think I will try white pebbles on the bottom and the black coals on the top, when I put it in its final place (in process of blocking fireplace and decorating) So far, I've only just used it for the light, which is lovely. On the heat setting it soon warms up, you can hear the fan with the heat setting,

This is a lovely looking fire and has one of the best frame effects I've seen. Using the white pebbles and with just the flame effect it is easy to think that the fire is actually giving out heat as the pebbles take on the glow from the bulbs. The detachable front is plastic and simply slots onto the body of the fire, I have some concerns as to how well the "silver" coating will last, I suspect that it may be vulnerable if polished too often. The fire is noisier than I would have liked when using the heat settings, but I think one would get used to this. All in all if you're looking for a freestanding (rather than an inset, or wall mounted) electric fire, then this one is worth considering.

Love this. Had an issue with delivery but item itself was lovely. Super easy to install. You don’t need to measure the back hole in fireplace as it fits flat. Was suggested to us to cover the hole with wood first to stop chimney drawing the heat upward out of the room which we did do. Flame effect is the best I’ve seen on an electric fire other than a £400+ Opti mist alternative. Good price, £50 cheaper than buying it in a local store. Warms nicely as a supplement to the heating or when it’s a bit chilly but you don’t want to heat the whole house.

The fire arrived well wrapped and protected against potential damage.The value for money is amazing as you get the choice of pebbles or coals and even though the chrome isn't metal it looks real. The backlight gives the impression that the fire is real when it is switched on and the two heat settings make it easy to control the temperature. It looks absolutely fabulous against the brushed steel back panel and black wooden fire surround that I have in my front room. Very very happy!

Perfect for the ope in my fire place. No adjustments were required so it was just a case of plug and play. The flame effect is very authentic and gives a very real appearance of a coal fire. It also provides a psychological effect of feeling warm when it is turned on.We have central heating turned on when it is cold so the heating elements are only needed when it is very cold in order to provide a boost. We would highly recommend it for its coal fire effect and esthetics.

I’m used to Dimplex making robust and durable heating appliances, having fitted countless Quantum heaters, downflow heaters and storage heaters. However, two days after installing and using the flame effect LED/motor, it stopped working. Took upon myself to open up the unit as I have the experience, and discovered a loose live connection behind the glass panel. Quite disappointed with this as I’m used to Dimplex being a quality brand as mentioned above.

The fire looks great and the fact that it comes with real coal as well as White pebbles, you can chose, depending on mood.The flame effect is better than I thought it would be. Two heat settings. A bit of fan noise but to be expected.Only reason 4 stars rather than 5, is the fact that with flame effect only on, in a quiet room, you can hear the revolving blades that create the flame effect. It's a slow droning noise.

This was my 3rd purchase of a Dimplex electric fire ( I previously purchased a Dimplex Zamora model - the initial purchase was faulty and it was replaced - but the replacement was faulty too).However I decided to have one final attempt and chose the Dimplex Detroit - 3rd time lucky !!A great fire with silent "Optiflame"realistic flame effect and fairly quiet fan heater.Looks very stylish and welcoming.

I was a little dubious about purchasing this fire as i thought the price was too low. How wrong was i?! This is stunning! The pictures dont do it justice. Comes with coal and pebbles, i used both, pebbles low down and coal on top. To say im thrilled is an understatement! No noise with just the flames on, and ptlretty quiet with the heat settings on. Bargain fire, looks classy, great price.

Absolutely love this fire.. It replaced my previous Dimplex fire of 12 years which has been rehomed to a very happy owner :-) It looks fab when off but even better when the fire light is on.. I didn’t find it noisy at all and the heater soon gets the room warm.. Fabulous fast service as always from Amazon.. Well deserved 5*

This is everything I wanted in an electric fire: stylish, well-made, easy to install, convincing coal and flame effect and, most importantly for me, the controls easy of access. Even when you have both bars on, the fan is very quiet. At this price, I don't think there can be a better buy on the market.

The fire looks rather cheap and nasty especially the plastic surround but it does cover a gaping hole in my fireplace and creates a feature. As an arthritic 80 year old widow I did just manage to assemble and install it myself. It all seems to be working satisfactorily so far.

Although this is an electric fire, its got a warming coal effect glow of a real fire which can be on with or without heat. It gives any room a warming feel. Easy to assemble. Take it out of the box, slot in the front and choose whether to have coals or stones. Its that easy.
