Delivery;Arrived promptly within a few days, package was easy to open and protective.Reason for purchase;I bought the hub so I could use the back 4 (now 3 since the hub uses one port) USB ports and the two front USB ports for other equipment. I chose this specific hub over others due to the design, and the high ratings.Problems so far?;The only two problems I have encountered so far are:1. After putting the 4 USB devices in and installed, I put the 5th in and got a bluescreen.2. I put a Wireless USB stick into one of the ports and every once in a while it stopped connecting*.No other issues with the hub and it works flawlessly with whatever is plugged in.Design; It's smaller than I expected, though a lot of things look bigger in books/online. Suffice to say it's small, compact and does the job. It sits nicely next to my Desktop tower. Depending on what you use for your plug sockets you may have a few "quirks".- If you have a wall-socket with a 2/3 socket plug, you'll have to use an alternative, as the long plug will stop you plugging it on the top, and will block any plug if used on the front.- If you use an extension lead with multiple sockets you'll find the plug design to be no problem, even with a socket-plug (depending on if you have it hanging or on the floor). The ports position make it easier to use any wide USB's without fear of 'conflict'. The green LED's are not overpoweringly bright, and only the power LED remains on when the computer is turned off.Recommendations;I would definitely recommend this product to other people who need an easy compact hub for additional ports. I have yet to contact support for any reason.Other;I have currently got a webcam, printer, mouse, keyboard, and wireless USB stick plugged into the hub, and all work simultaneously. Also, the hub does not overheat quickly, instead it can sustain a cold/reasonable temperature for a relatively long time.--*however, other devices still work in the port and the USB wireless stick works in an alternative port. Probably a picky wireless stick.

This item is actually the black shiny one shown in the customer photos, not the silver older looking one.I use this hub with my work laptop so that I only have one USB cable to plug in when I sit at my desk (for mouse, keyboard, smartphone, USB pen-drive and other devices I use for work). This is the first hub I've used where the transfer speeds to and from my phone and pen-drive are similar to when they're plugged straight into the laptop. The power adaptor also means it can charge my phone at a descent speed, and carries on charging when I take the laptop away to a meeting. Here are some details for techies:According to the manual, all 7 ports supply 500 mA when connected to the PC,but when disconnected (or PC is shut down) the two high-power ports supply 1.2 A. If you want them to supply 1.2 A while connected to the PC, you have to download ipad_charge.exe from the D-Link website. This is no longer available, but you can get it here: [...]Running this utility doesn't seem to make any difference to the rate my phone charges; maybe it only works with an actual iPad, I dunno.Lost 1 star for software not being available and inability to tell whether ports are really supplying 1.2 A or 500 mA. Great hub though, certainly worth the money!

I purchased this product because I ran out of USB ports on my iMac. After considering other hubs this seemed to be the best option and had the best overall reviews so I went for it. I have not been disappointed! The hub is small, an sleek looking and sits nicely on my desk. It comes with an AC power cable for fully powering USB devices and for charging phones, cameras etc, even when your computer is off or the USB cable is unplugged. In terms of performance it is pretty much as good as I expected - It works, but isn't outstandingly good. I currently have a USB gaming headset, an Xbox 360 controller, a USB MIDI keyboard and a Blu-ray Rewrite drive plugged into it,and it all works just as well as if I plug it directly into my computers USB ports. However with all of these plugged in, the hub cannot provide sufficient power for charging a phone or camera, but to be honest I never expected it to. It's a perfectly good, and very useful gadget. Finally, it works equally well with Mac OSX or Windows 7, so you don't have to worry about compatibility with your chosen OS, which is great because I'm constantly switching between the two. Conclusion: Not amazing but easily worth the money. Would certainly recommend.

Simple installation - plug and play. Nice compact unit, doesn't slide around the desk too much. I do find it slightly irritating that each port is illuminated with a green light even when nothing is plugged into it, but that's not the end of the world. However, what I do find is that some devices really do not like being plugged into this hub. I don't know if it's related to the current these devices draw, but even though this hub has its own power supply, if I plug (as an example) my Freecom external hard drive into the hub, then Windows does not always start successfully. I don't know the reason, but that's what happens. If I unplug the device from the hub and plug the device directly into another port on my PC then everything is ok again. So,for most devices this hub is good (and I have every port in use now). But there do appear to be some things that do not work well with it. I am guessing that it relates to the current drawn but that is a guess.[Note added March 2016 - now ordering my third one of these. Whilst a competent product, they do seem to have a limited lifespan before failing completely.]

I found that this USB hub has a slight problem, it seems to be fickle about the order in which the various points are plugged in. If you find that not all lights come on when using the hub, then unplug the USB Hub's power, unplug the USB wire at the back and unplug the USB wire connecting to your computer. Then, plug the power in first, then the USB wire on the back, then the USB wire on your computer.Aside from that, it's my first USB hub and works perfectly. 7 slots is plenty for what I'm paying for this.Tested it on Windows XP, Vista, 7, and Ubuntu 9.04 to 11.04.-----NOTE ABOUT RASPBERRY PI:This hub can serve as a hub extension for the Raspberry Pi. You can connect it to the USB-out on the Raspberry Pi,then connect whatever USB devices to the hub, and the Raspberry Pi will pick them up.However, this hub will NOT *power* the Raspberry Pi. So if you are thinking of saving on clutter by having this USB hub as the sole provider of power, this is not the hub for you. I am still searching for one that will work as the provider of USB and power together.

I bought one of these in Feb 2010. Deliberately went for this as it had lots of good reviews and I haven't been disappointed. I had purchased a couple of cheap powered hubs but neither of them worked properly or would deliver enough power - I have several pocket hard drives (old type WD passports) and none of the cheaper hubs would power them all even though the hubs had mains adaptors to drive the extra juice. No such problems with the D-link, it's been in service every day since Feb 2010. I have yet to find a device it has a problem with - it's currently got 3 USB-powered external drives, another (powered) hub built into a monitor daisychained (with a wireless mouse dongle and the monitor's inbuilt webcam and mike running off that)and a video camera plumbed into it, all working sweet as a nut off a single USB upstream cable to the USB port on my 2007 macbook. If I need another hub this model will be top of my list.

This is a difficult review to write, because having had the unit for some time, its shortcomings mar what could be a great product. The unit is very light in weight, which means that if you have enough cables connected to the USB outlets, the cables drag it off the desk. It's a shame that there are neither fixing brackets moulded into the body, nor a separate bracket that gives the user the option of screwing it to the desk.Furthermore, I bought it to replace an unpowered USB hub because that would not run my Lexar external card reader, but the D-Link won't run this either; nor will it run my Aver Media TV unit, which somewhat diminishes its utility. However, it does run my printers, is compact, runs very cool, and so far , I haven't suffered from the fragility that others have reported.I'm sorry that this review rather sits on the fence, but I hope others will find it useful.

I've had this for a few weeks now and have used it at home and at work for my audio interface and authorisation dongle. I am giving it five stars because it simply works with my MacBook and so is always recognised, always recognises devices plugged into it.As I expected, it will not power my external hard drives and I can only guess that it would if I plugged the D-Link into the mains using its included power supply. The thing I'm most excited about - although I think this is more to do with Parallels software than the D-Link - is that, when running both Windows in a Parallels virtual machine as well as OS X, the D-Link can talk to both operating systems. So I can have my old USB trigger to MIDI interface talking to Windows and my new audio interface talking to OS X. Parallels Desktop rules! The D-Link is small and light for taking out and about and seems durable.

Good service i.e. delivered within 48 hours. Purchased this as a replacement for my Belkin 7 port hub, which unfortunately failed after many years of excellent service. Read many reviews on hubs before deciding on this particular model, very glad I did because after nearly 4 weeks of continuous use this seems to be working ok.Two small niggles however(1) all the cables come out of the front of the unit and hence run across the desk, it would have been much better just to have the lights on the front and the ports on the rear.(2) in order to maintain this in place on my desk, I had to use double sided adhesive pads to secure on the desk and it would have been nice if these had been included in the pack. All that said, this is a very good piece of kit.

I have a stack of USB devices (mainly panels for my flight simulator) and needed a neat solution to to move away from lots of trailing wires to my computer.I considered the Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 7 Port Hub as it initially had many favourable reviews. However recently it had got some negative reviews on Amazon. The D-Link had been reviewed in a PC magazine and got high marks. The dimensions of the D-Link pleasantly surprised me; it's about the size of a chunky mobile phone. It's a powered USB 2.0 compatible hub and the status lights for each port are useful. Good news for me is that it worked straight out of the box with all seven ports used. Definately worth considering as an option.I'll be buying another one.

I purchased this Hub last December, to connect an eleven year old EpsonStylus color 800 printer, a fairly new HP 5280 printer, an external hard drive, and cables for transferring photos from mobile phones and cameras to an HP6799 Pavilion Notebook (with Windows Vista). When it arrived, I noticed that one light for one usb socket was not operating (hence, the four stars). However, the socket was working fine. I contacted Amazon and agreed with them on a small discount. The hub comes complete with a usb cable to connect to a computer, and a power transfomer and cable. The hub can be powered by the notebook only. There was no need to install any additional software before using.I am pleased with the hub.

I purchased this because my motherboard's ethernet port fried. It's very simple to install, simply install the included drivers via CD, then connect it to a USB 3.0 (backward compatible) port and connect the modem.Speeds are as good as a native port, and so far in a month's use it's been rock solid. With my SSD, which boots up fast, there is no latency and the network adapter is fully functional as soon as I reach desktop. It's a handy little device to have lying around for mobile devices, or for troubleshooting. It's a bit expensive, but when you have no other way of accessing the Internet, you'll think it's money well spent.G'Day from Australia.

I bought this because I wanted to add some extra USB devices to a Raspberry Pi in my lounge so I needed a hub. I figured I may as well get one that could also power the Pi itself and this is the one I Picked based on price and reviews. It's doing everything I need it to do in terms of powering the Pi and allowing me to connect an SSD, USB sound card and IR receiver, but I found that the Pi will only work on one of the two 5v ports. The fact that it works on one justified me keeping it, but something to keep in mind. I think I'd probably think about going for a different one next time because of this, or I'd at least look at others first.

Bought one of these for my sound designer. It works very well indeed, but this bloody thing lights up like a christmas tree I swear! There are at least 8 very very bright green LEDs on it that are on all the time and serve absolutely no function. The hub is great, works well, nice size and very well built, but I HATE this tendency to just cover everything with pointless LEDs.It adds no value to the device, just makes it look like the designers have too much time on their hands.I have had to cover most of the hub except the actual ports with black gaffer tape to stop the lights illuminating the room.

This product arrived earlier than I had been informed and worked straight out of the box on my laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium. I have plugged two external hard drives (one Western Digital, one Buffalo), a 16GB flash drive, a card reader and an external mouse into this hub all at once without a single problem. Yes, it does have its own power supply, but it ran fine on the same extension lead as my laptop, and it may not be the cheapest hub on the market, but if you are looking for an expansion of your USB ports then this is certainly the product to go for. Highly recommended.
