Bought to upgrade my daughter's low spec HP Celeron Vista Home Premium PC from 2 x 500 Mb to to 2 x 1 Gb DIMMs.(Maximum allowed in two slots provided). Came quickly, worked perfectly.Decided to upgrade my Home/office spec HP XP Pro PC from 2 x 500 Mb to 4 x 1 Gb in four slots provided.Used Crucial scanner to determine exact DIMMs required. Couldn't find these on Amazon so ordered from Crucial direct.Same speed of delivery and delivery cost (zero) and price difference not worth worrying about.Ordered two 2 x 1GB upgrade kits.Installed, worked, but My Computer, Properties, General showed only 3 Gb memory. Before trying permutations of only two DIMMs to see if 2 Gb showed and thus eliminating any possibility of faulty DIMM (unlikely)I telephoned Crucial support.Having ascertained that I had 32 bit Win XP Pro , they explained that I had fallen into the 3 Gb switch trap. I leave you to research this, but (simplified) without making BIOS changes and worrying about video card memory overlap questions, the 32 bit version of XP limits RAM to 3 Gb.They explained I could get 3 Gb by using two of my new 1Gb DIMMs in the primary slots and putting my existing two 500 Mb DIMMs in the secondary slots.I said it was a pity then that the technical info on the PC had led me to buy twice as much memory as I needed. No problem they said, emailed me a returns code, I sent it back and they promptly (presumably after checking the memory) have refunded half my outlay. So, as other reviewers have said, "crucial to buy Crucial". It works and they know how to treat their customers.

If you have an older computer and these chips are right for you (google "crucial memory advisor" to find a site for checking this), so ahead and get these. Even with the (relatively) exorbitant shipping, they're still pretty inexpensive. I've had no problem with these chips. You probably need to speed match these chips in pairs, so go ahead and get two at once. Put them in the same color slots on your motherboard and you should be good to go. I bought these chips to replace some OEM chips that had gone bad, so I recommend running a memory diagnostic to insure that the new chips are working. You can run a minimal check by turning off any "fast boot" option you might have set in your BIOS,but don't forget to turn the option back on after a couple of reboots. There are also other ways to test you memory: (At least) Windows 7 has a built-in memory diagnostic you can run. (Type "diagnostic" in the search programs and files after clicking the start button to find it.) If you're running Linux you probably already know about memtest. As an aside, when memory chips start to go bad, it's not always obvious that that's what's happening. You can run into random crashes (Blue Screen Of Death on Windows) and/or data corruption on your hard disk. It can look like a virus. When you're having system issues, it's a good idea to rule out memory problems before checking other things. Memory problems are easy to detect (if you explicitly look for them) and easy to fix.

OK , so I my OS is XP SP3 and my PC had 2GB of RAM. Even thougfh it has a dual core 3.2GHz processor, it was really sluggish, especially when I had a few tabs open in Internet Explorer. After a few mins the PC would grind right down to the point where I would have toi start shutting down programs just so it could keep going. One of the snags with XP 32 bit is that it can only deal with RAM up to 3GB,anthing more thanthat is simply not used. It might sound like a bit of a waste but at the good price of the additional 2GB from Crucial to take me up to 4GB with 1GB wasted, it was still definatley worth it.I have had Word, Excel, Access, Media Player, AutoCAD,plus a couiple of minor graphics programs and up to 7 active tabs in Internet Explorer all running at the same time and the PC barley falters. Ram has to be upgraded in matched pairs so I had top buy another 2GB to get best performance from the RAM upgrade. Crucial do a RAM checker to see what your Motherboard and exisitng RAM are to make sure you get the right RAM for an upgrade. THe Crucail web site says one price, while Amazon sell the same product from Crucail at a slighlty lower price. Use sopme common sense here where you buy it from. My order arrived after 3 working days. Packaging was not good but it survived and worked fine out-of-the-box.My bottom line line here is that my RAM upgrade WAS worthwhile (even if 1GB appears to be wasted) and my PC is performing better for it.

I bought two of them for my computer to get to a total of 2.5 GB RAM memory. I am very satisfied with the final outcome.I decided very quickly to use "Crucial" modules, and found two modules through two search methods provided by Crucial:1) A computer scan program (crucialscan.exe) recommended module "CT908179" from a hardware scan of my computer. It is named "Dell Specific" and costs $53.9 for 2 x 1 GB. It probably would work very well.2) A table search method recommended module "CT731048" for the same price.Since both would require me to pay a state sales tax, I decided to search AMAZON to find what I need. I found Crucial "CT12864AA667" offered by Amazon to be the exact module for my computer,(DDR2 PC2-5300 240 pin CL=5 unbuffered NON-ECC 1GB at $22 each). No sales tax and no shipping. After I inserted these modules in slots 2 & 4, my computer did not start at all. Since I read that sometimes incompatible memory modules can cause this type of problems, I took out the original modules (256MB each) and used slots 1 & 3 for the new modules. This time, my computer started nicely. I still see several messages to indicate its progress in using the new modules. Not satisfied with wasting the old memory, I inserted the old ones back in slots 2 & 4 and the computer accepted them easily. So, I now have 2.5 GB memory in my computer. I still do not know why this combination worked. Hope my experience would help someone else also.

I use Autocad, Picasa, Photoshop, Google Chrome, Google Earth, and Adobe Acrobat with multiple PDFs and web browsers open while I work.Autocad 1GB + Photoshop 1GB + Chrome 1 GB + Picasa 1 GB + multiple PDFs 1 GB = 5 GBMy computer is a $1200 HP from Costco that I bought two years ago. It came with 4 GB of memory but when I run all my applications, they take up about 5 GB of RAM. When you max out your RAM the computer is uselessly slow and it could take up to 40 seconds for a new program to open, especially a program that uses up a lot of RAM like Autocad 2012 or Adobe Photoshop. It is very frustrating using Autocad when you have to wait a few seconds for each little command. Those few seconds of waiting add a lot of stress to your life. But now that I upgraded my computer to 8 GB of RAM my computer runs like a champ! I can use all my programs simultaneously with dual 24" monitors, and there is no lag. If you work in an office and do a lot of multi tasking like Microsoft Excel and Word, with multiple PDFs and Pictures and photo editing, and AUTOCAD, then it is worth every penny. Amazing Value! But I'm sure in about two years all the programs are going to be bigger and take up more RAM and I'll need 16 GB but at that point I'll buy a new computer. That's my routine. Buy $1200 desktop from Costco wait two years, then buy upgrade Ram from Amazon, use computer for two more years, then buy a new one.

I wanted to upgrade an old computer of mine to the best specs possible without having to do any large overhauls. The motherboard that's in the machine is a P5LP-LE (leonite) MB (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00864946&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en#N166). It can only support up to 4gb ram of up to PC2-5300 DDR2. So for a cheap and easy try at improving its performance till I had the cash to build an actual gaming rig, I decided to upgrade my 2x 1gb PC2-4200 ram to two sticks of 2gb PC2-5300 DDR2 ram. My logic was that at worst case I'm doubling the ram of the machine at least, and at best case i'm doubling the ram and getting like a 10% increase is memory transfer rate from switching out 4200 for 5300.I bought two sticks because most of the sites i read up on said to install memory sticks in pairs if possible, and some sites said that if you try to mix and match ram of different speeds your bios will chose the slower speed. Installing the memory went smoothly and was a no brainier. After installing the memory, the machine was performing better than before. I could tell that I was running smoother within windows and alt-tabbing between programs.A word of caution though, my machine is running a 32bit OS (vista) and even though I installed 4gb of ram the software only recognized 3gb of ram. So, when deciding how much ram to actually buy software limitations come into play too.

Good price, Note that these are DDR2 and aren't for most newer machines. These are great for breathing a little life into older machines though. The more main memory a computer has the more time it can work for you instead of using the swap file. When a computers main memory gets full it will swap out parts of the main memory onto the hard drive and then back in as needed. Since a harddrive is much slower than ram this will appreciably slow your machine down. You will notice that when you are waiting for something to load the machine may 'pause' and then you'll hear the hard drive and notice the light is on almost constantly. This is where having a little extra ram may help out.I purchased these for an older HP Pavilion 1328X and they dropped right in place.Windows and most memory test programs instantly recognized that I had 2GB of ram instead of 1GB. The BIOS for some reason still reports only having 2 512MB sticks though. This is clearly a problem with HP's bios and not the chips themselves.I purchased these two through Amazon.com instead of other cheaper outlets. Both chips matched up perfectly and came in a nice plastic case with Crucial literature on it.Crucial has been making memory for a long time now and has a good reputation and these chips live up to that reputation. Good purchase!

I bought this for my husband as it matched the specific requirements as per Dell.Slotted in. Worked 1st time. Machine had virtually ceased up as it was shipped with 512K which once all the patches and virus software went in meant there was virtually no way it would run and when he switched the performance on the system to give priority to the System Cache, it failed altogether and couldn't even boot.I wont mention the Supplier of the Dell secondhand machine as this is not about them, but when it would not boot up, they told him it only had 30 days warranted and not only refused to help but lied about the problem to try and sell him new XP software and told him the machine had become infectedby a trojan/virus and buying another copy of XP was the only way to solve it.My husband who has worked in IT since before Microsoft then took out the USB plugins to reduce memory usage, managed to get to basic start-up and reversed the performance changes which then booted up the machine again. The Crucial Memory upgrade just solved the problem straight away once we had upgraded and we now have a good system and that is no thanks to those crooks who sold us the machine.

After a whole bunch of research, this is the right paired ram to double what I had on board in the 2 filled DIMMS on my DELL XPS 410. The RAM looks different though, all the chips are on one side on this set and on the one's that came from dell they are on both sides. But as long as you buy them in pairs, it should be plug and play. One thing, the 2 open DIMMS on my motherboard were filled with lint and I couldn't blow it out with compressed air, I ended up using a sheet of fabric softener and it pulled out the lint and I'm guessing it cut down on the possible static that would have fried the memory when I was installing it. Doubled my ram for $30 and about 2 minutes of work.Hopefully my computer gets a couple more years of use now. If nothing else, Dell says the factory memory only has a shelf life of around 2 years before it needs to be replaced, so this extra 2 gig is like a spare tire or insurance so I can keep running if I need to order more. I never would have thought RAM would have become a 'shelf life' sort of product, its a solid state device for goodness sake. Anyways, if you have a DELL XPS 410 and you want to double your ram, this is the best buy.

I installed the two 1GB sticks of memory into my HP Pavilion a6042n desktop computer and it recognized it immediately upon startup. Previously it had two 512MB sticks of memory. I moved the two 512MB memory sticks to the secondary slots as a pair, and installed the two 1GB sticks into the paired primary slots. With my Window 7, 32 bit system, it recognized that I had a total of 3GB of memory immediately. The machine is running very fast now, compared to very sluggish performance with the previous memory. I think 3GB is the maximum that the Win 7, 32 bit system can use. I highly recommend Crucial memory, but go to the Crucial website to determine which memory your computer needs. They have an application that will tell you what memory is compatible with your computer. The price on Amazon was almost half of what you would pay from Crucial. I highly recommend this product. One last thing - make sure you get rid of your old Windows XP machines (or at least upgrade your operating system). Microsoft no longer supports Win XP with patches and updates and it will only be a matter of time before you will be hacked. Good luck!

I was advised to get Crucial memory as the brand for my slow and snuffly 5 yr old Dell PC. The Crucial website does a search of your computer to clearly identify what you have and what you need in order to get the right memory configuration to take your PC to full speedy perfection. Or you can work this out yourself by using make and model search. AND they guarantee that what they suggest WILL work. Very encouraging to the techno klutzyBrilliant speed of despatch (I went straight to Crucial rather than the middleman). And Crucial had a good deal as well. Same day despatch, next day delivery. Videos on their site also show you how to do it. Easy, even for a novice. But oh boy DON'T you have to apply pressure (they suggest 20-30lbs of pressure) my sore little fingers winced till I thought to find something to use - the stem of a plastic magnifying glass, since you askI assume this is nothing to do with Crucial mems, more to do with the PCs own housing.Anyway - my PC feels like an Arab steed, yearning to be put through its paces. The old carthorse plodding disconsolately around the field has GONE!

I wanted to upgrade the memory on an old Dell PC from 2 to 4Gb. I chose Crucial because experience has taught me that the Crucial product is 100% compatible with my particular model. I put the two modules in and the upgrade worked perfectly. My object in performing this uprade was to reduce the number of BSODs that I was having with Windows 7. This has been achieved.A point to remember. If you are using a 32bit version of Windows then it will be unable to see the full 4Gb of RAM. This is because the address space that a 32bit Winsows system can address tops out just over 3Gb. If you are not in a position to upgrade to a 64bit version of Windows you might want to purchase the alternative 1Gbupgrade that Crcuial supply. If you are running a 32 bit system and have an original Windows install disc then you can usually upgrade to a 64bit version of Windows. That will allow your sytem to address all the extra memory BUT be aware that this involves major work on your C: drive. If you do this you will need to act to protect your data and be prepared to reinstall applications.

I own an HP Pavilion Slimline s7517c running Windows XP which I bought way back in 2006. The thing has been running reaaallllyyyyy slow now, it can't even run Firefox (without any add-ons) without freezing. I had to buy new computers last year because I can no longer put up with it. I still kept it though, because I'm too lazy to transfer my old files :). I still use iTunes a lot so that day when it crashed for the nth time, I gave in and decided to upgrade the hardware. I have absolutely no background in computers although I can run one pretty decently without the need for Geek Squad. First thing I did was go to Crucial's website and searched for the right memory for my PC.That was nice because I didn't think that my computer would be in the list since it's pretty old. I also went through some YouTube videos on how to open up my PC because I've never opened one up before. Installation was VERY EASY, which is saying something considering my experience with computers. Now this computer runs really smoothly I rarely have to use my newer one. :)

The product arrived on time and in proper working order. Packaging, while somewhat flimsy, came whole and undisturbed. The ram was properly housed during its travel to my house and thus when it arrived it worked without a hitch. I ran an overnight memtest and found no errors with either stick both in dual-config testing config and solo. This RAM set has revived the vigor and vitality of an old desktop I had laying around. It now works as stable office computer and can handle basic multimedia such as watching video's (up to 1080p) and audio.Prior to this upgrade the pc only had 1gig RAM and was overly slow. Memtest discovered errors in the old ram, thus explaining the sluggishness beyond the lack of more memory, and so I ordered these sticks. Overall a very substantial improvement on an old system that used to have half the RAM that was/is defective. Good product, company, and customer service. Thanks to the vendor and Amazon!
