I like Crown of glory a lot. It's a turn based game thank goodness, which avoids those ridiculous "click-fests" you get a lot of in other games. As ruler of one of several Napoleonic powers (including unusual ones like Turkey), you get to run your region completely if you so wish, or you can select advisors to take care of the day to day drudgery whilst you look to your next conquest. Be careful though who you choose to attack - chances are they've got big friends who would like nothing better than an excuse to liquidate you! When that battle moment inevitably comes, you get the choice of quick combat or detailed combat. Straight away we see more on offer than in a heck of a lot of other games like the Europa Universalis series where battles are automated. The other reviewer doesn't like the detailed battles. Why? For once they actually represent the real thing very well. Okay they are in 2d, but depth is far more important than eye candy. The battles are brilliant and last longer than anything on Medieval 2TW I've yet seen. Your units each represent a Division on the battlefield, which is randomly generated but represents the type of terrain in the region well. You can split Divisions down too. Formations are well catered for with column, line, square and skirmish order for light infantry types. There are plenty of units; militia, light infantry, jaeger, line, guard, light cavalry, lancers, heavy cavalry, artillery including howitzers etc. Historical commanders are all included too. The battle engine is brilliant - the best I've seen, with morale checks, disordered units, battle field smoke effects, supply caissons etc. Truly historical in every sense. you get one historical figure to represent each unit, and the battlefields contain every terrain type you could wish for.You get to build your own armies from Divisions upwards, and you can switch units around, forming new Brigades, Corps, Armies etc.Diplomacy, economy, trade etc is very well handled, and you can control it hands on if you've got enough time!To moan about the sea battles is very picky, after all even the TW series has never had detailed naval actions! You do get to open trade routes and send merchant vessels around the world looking for trade, and you can see the income they are generating too. Privateers are a great way of cutting back the enemies trade without declaring war! You can blockade and even bombard enemy ports too, but watch out for their coastal batteries. In short if you like historical accuracy that actually teaches you history over a demented clickfest that bears little in common with what actually happened, then buy "Crown of Glory". It's currently the best in its genre.

This game promises quite alot if you are looking for a deep strategy game. It's a shame that what is probably a great game gets hidden under an over complex GUI(graphical user interface) that makes this game a bit of a pain to manage. Still if i was a serious napoleon era buff, i would probably struggle through to find the decent game underneath.
