I purchased this Cross Sterling Silver Century pen as an Amazon Warehouse deal, so I was happy to receive a rather generous discount over both the RRP and the price of a new pen from Amazon. The item was described as having a damaged box/packaging, the outer box is ripped cardboard, the gift box itself also has part of the yellow 'ribbon' coming away at one side. Not a complaint as it was described as such, otherwise the packaging is good. It's a larger box than normal for a single Cross pen, not sure if you buy a new Silver pen if you get this size of box (normally for a twin gift set I would imagine) or the standard single sized box.The pen itself arrived tarnished, slightly more than pictured (pictures were taken after some rubbing with Kitchen roll which didn't remove much). This is a Sterling Silver pen and silver does tarnish, I have compared it next to the far cheaper Chrome Cross Century pen.I simply purchased a silver cleaning cloth from a local supermarket (I was expecting to need to do this when I purchased the pen and before receiving it). After a very brief and easy clean with the cloth, the pen has come up a treat and presumably now looks as a new pen would. Presumably the pen was returned tarnished, and may have been sitting in stock for a while, so I was expecting it to be tarnished.Still a lightweight and slim pen as you would expect from a Century Cross pen, the opening closing mechanism is a lot smoother than the approximately 4 week old Chrome pen (I bought this new from Amazon), and certainly feels of a higher quality than the Chrome pen. Though I also wouldn't hesitate to recommend the chrome pen.In short the the Cross Classic Century pen, is truly of classic design, they are made in China now but I wouldn't let that put you off. Also, Amazon Warehouse deals are likely to be very much as described and when/if available an option to consider over buying new.

I bought this pen because I wanted one that is better than a cheap plastic biro, but not so expensive that I'd be too upset if it went the way of many pens and got mislaid. This pen arrives in an attractive presentation box and the Cross name adds a bit of prestige which is echoed by the attractive satin finish - it looks just a bit more sophisticated than chrome. The pen itself is well balanced although the barrel is quite slim and it writes extremely smoothly. I've lost a few suits over the years to leaky or non retracted pens - this pen has a twist mechanism that retracts the point fully and the refill is sealed plus of all metal construction so it shouldn't leak.In summary,a quality pen that writes well and feels good in the hand. It's sufficiently well made to feel so much better than a disposable ball pen and comes from a distinguished marque. Because it looks more expensive than it is, whilst it would be a pity to lose it, it wouldn't be the tragedy that it could be. Hard to fault at the price. Recommended.

It really is, especially for the price. It's beautiful, sleek, and sits well in the hand. The grip texture works almost flawlessly (perspiring hands tend to slip on anything, though). The nib comes out smoothly, and writes very well for a ballpoint - no smudging, for instance.I've had one of these for almost several years now, and it still works, despite being left largely untouched next to a notebook full of old stories and ideas. It worked fine throughout my GCSEs and A Levels, and the ink has never frozen/hardened up, regardless of the aforementioned neglect. The only downside is that those with larger hands might have some trouble gripping it, and even those who don't may experience higher levels of cramp than normal.Other than that, there's really nothing wrong with this, at least from my experience.

The Cross Century is a slimline pen, and quite lightweight but not in a cheap way. There are quite a few reviews which bash the quality of modern Cross pens since they moved production out of the USA and into China, but this example is well made without any imperfections in operation or finish. I suspect you're paying a little more for the Cross brand for essentially a slightly more upmarket version of a Parker Jotter, but with a twist mechanism instead of a push button. I prefer the satin finish over the lustrous chrome as it has a better grip and doesn't show finger prints. If you shop around you can pick one of these up for under £20 which isn't a bad deal to be honest, although I wouldn't pay anymore than that.

This was a replacement for a Cross Classic that I had had for many years and which very sadly I had lost recently.I find that when a company specialises in a product, in this case writing instruments, then most of the time they can be depended upon to deliver the goods and Cross does that.I was amazed at the Amazon price and with PRIME snapped this beauty up.I knew from many years of use what I was getting and although the lovely presentation box that it came in is very suitable for a gift it is the slim design of this elegant pen that I am attracted to.The pen writes perfectly.Even in these days of keyboards one should never be without a quality pen and this one delivers.

I've always had a thing for pens - ever since I got a set of Parker pens for my 11th birthday. This Cross is just beautiful! It writes smoothly and evenly with no scratching etc. on the paper. The machining on the barrel is clean & sharply done - and works superbly as a "grip" area on what is otherwise a slim, sleek piece of carefully crafted metal ............ yes, I'm an engineer, I work for an aerospace/defence CNC machining company and I'm the only person I know who would get "that" worked up about a pen!! I already own a "wide barrel" Cross ballpoint and this one makes a perfect partner. In my opinion, this pen is worth every single penny!

A really nice pen. Some here have said it feels cheap. It doesn't. It just feels very light.I thought it might be too thin, but the grooves make it easy to hold and give the pen a lovely tactile feel. Some people seem irked by the grooves, but I'd ask them... why did you buy it then? The grooves are very apparent on the picture.A really lovely pen, and wonderful value for money. If you have never owned a Cross pen, here is a great way to start. It's really affordable, and if the only gripe you can find is a bit of black plastic on the top of the pen... it's still great, isn't it?

Brilliant pen, great quality item. Some very slight superficial marks, and the grippy design collects debris. However the grippy design makes it great in the hand. Didn't use the cross insert as it was black, but I'm sure it is the same quality as the lovely smooth blue cross refills which I also ordered. Good price point for this pen which is kept in the file for meetings etc, not a heartbreaker to lose, but a quality item to use. Love the slim design of this series of cross pens, have a few, and easy to recommend.

Had a few lower budget cross pens but this one takes the cake. This is a gorgeous low profile pen. I had the cross century II and I hated it. It was too heavy and too bulky. My hand would hurt writing with it.This is the perfect pen for someone who writes everyday. It writes great and it doesn't break your hand in the process. Im sure there are better pens out there at a higher price but at the sub £30 mark, there is no better pen. Refills last long and they are not expensive.

As almost everyone else has said concerning this pen it really is excellent. It should be pointed out its very thin and elegant which makes it very traditional as opposed to a lot of pens these days that are a little chunky. The pen is a lovely item to use and comes in a standard cross box. The picture doesn't quite reflect the colours of the pen which are a deep black and gold which while look great and in keeping with the pen you may want to keep in mind when purchasing.

Elegantly styled ballpoint pen. Quality slightly less than the American/Irish made models of yesteryear; clip not as securely attached and twist mechanism not as smooth (not a huge gripe as the pen and it's components work fine). Writes very well. I have had several compliments about this pen whilst using it at work. The chrome finish is well polished and causes the pen to really stand out. Remarkable value at offer price.

Top quality pen, it is a ballpoint i.e. not free flowing ink however that was what I wanted. I was in need of a good quality pen for work that would be cheap to buy replacements ink for and hopefully last for years, Looks more expensive that it is. No regrets, so pleased I purchased a real treat. Also comes in a very smart presentation box so would be great for a gift.

As the name says, this is a classic (and timeless) pen, and you only need to replace them when you lose them! This was a very good price - probably the lowest I have seen. The staff were very helpful, and delivery was ahead of the expected date. Very please with my purchase, and hopefully will look after it better than the last one!!

I'm sorry about delay in writing up a short report on my new cross sterling silver pen. All I can say is that it is everything and more than I expected from a company like AT Cross and the service from the supplier, Websters pen shop was quick efficient and up to the standard that I would expect if I was running the company myself.

This looks good, without appearing flash, but more importantly writes very well. On a personal note, my only negative is that it's quite slim, which for writing for a reasonable time might be a problem, it's not a major problem for the work I ask of it, but it also fits easier in a pocket, so balances out
