The creative Sound Blaster X5 Tournament edition headphones show why serious gamers still prefer the analogue approach. Gamers still prefer mechanical keyboards over their mushy counterparts. Its also the reason why any sort of wireless connectivity is frowned upon. When your in the middle of a gun fight, the last thing you want is lag. Losing precious milliseconds of advantage over you enemy is something that can not and will not be tolerated.Any headset that jumps into the £100 and above range is going to run into some stiff competition but once you get over the lack of extras and the oh so on trend LED light show that seems to dominate every peripheral you are left with a well made, comfortable and surprisingly high performing headset solution. The build is exactly what i look for. Braided cabling for extra toughness. Metal adjusting band for even the biggest of heads, a modular mic connector which hampers so many of its competitors as this is usually the first thing to break. No problems here, simply un clip and pop in a replacement. It also helps for when you want to use these as just standard headphones.I was really pleased with the overall sound quality of the X5 TE. Bass was not overly dominant with really pleasant mid and high tones. A quick warning though, these are open backed headphones so if you are looking for a totally immersive ‘sucked in’ experience, this may be a deal breaker. Thankfully i enjoy being able to hear whats going on around me. The headset carries tweaked 50mm Neodymium magnet drivers which helps carry the chaos that goes on in games like Call of Duty, Battlefront and for the little ones Plants vs Zombies. I have used headsets in the past where everything just sounds like its being thrown together along with a few angry buzz saws for good measure, but i must say the clarity of the sound during gameplay was very surprising. Even using them as straight up music headphones was a pleasure. The mic quality is also very solid, clear audio without the wind tunnel or under the sea effects that dog headset mice on options that cost over double to the X5’s. I did find the flex used to position the mic to be a little too easy to knock out of position, but its a nit pick. Also while im on things that could be improved the 3.5mm jack connections to the braided cable left a little to be desired. They feel way too flexible and could see them failing given a bit of time and real world abuse.Comfort is where these guys shine. The ear cups are super spongey and the headband hugs to your head without giving you a headache, which for a Tournament Edition product is really what you need. There is nothing worse than uncomfortable fitting headphones that dig in to your head and make you feel like you are wearing an angry lobster. I wore these for a solid 5 hours without even a smidgen of head or neck ache. No ear sweats or itchy cups here!If you are looking to step up your audio game from casual to competitive gamine with the diversity of being able to use them as just headphones then these are for you. However i will say i can see these splitting opinion because of the minimalist looks, lack of bells & whistles, along with the ‘open experience’ i can see a lot of newer gamers maybe overlooking these for the Turtle Beach’s and Kingston’s of this world. Thankfully im a very happy camper!

Gaming has its critics, but apart from reading I have not found a more immersive hobby and this is especially the case when gaming with headphones. The great thing about modern gaming headphones is that they can now pretty much work with any platform from the traditional PC to console. With the addition of the mic jack in newer versions of the Xbox One controllers, you can now use this on Microsoft's behemoth, but be aware that like all third party headphone/mics they won't work on the older version of the controllers. Sound Blaster are a well known brand, especially in the PC market and they signify good quality from the soundcards they make, to the headphones. On traditional PC the 'Sound BlasterX H5'is simple to fit; if you have a mic/speaker port just plug and play, or if you have split audio in/out then use the provided extension to split the wire. The quality of the 'Sound Blaster' is evident throughout, even before you listen to the quality of sound or mic. The headphones themselves are well padded and act as a good noise cancelling tool; both for the listener and those around them. Another nice feature is that you can add and remove the microphone and lead when you want. This makes the headphones easier to store, but also without the mic they can easily act as a pair of quality headphones themselves. Even the wire has a touch of quality with a fabric finish that makes it less likely to tangle and feels good to the touch. In terms of quality the headphones and mic are also very good with the tones being a little deep, but not too much. If you are used to lighter headphones or speakers you may have to come a little accustomed to the boomier bass tones you will get. One small snag is that even with the extension that comes with the wire it is a true gaming length, at 2.4 metres in total for someone wanting to use the headphones to watch a movie or even sit back on a far way sofa to play a console, the length is a little short. Thankfully, you can use any normal 3.5 mm extension to rectify this. I have to say that I love this new universal world of gaming headphones that swap between all consoles, PCs and even TV and the 'SoundblasterX H5's' are of a great quality and all that you would need.

Having used a Sound Blaster branded headset in the past I have to say I wasn't expecting a great deal from these, even at £100rrp. My last set were muddy-sounding and far too bassy, as is often the case with 'gaming' headphones. My normal brand of choice is Sennheiser, which have never disappointed me.Firstly, the build quality of this set is far superior to my ancient SB set. It has a premium feel, not top of the range, but certainly not cheap in any way. Nothing creaks or flexes when it shouldn't. The overall design is only slightly 'gamer-y', hence the bright red accents, and thankfully 99% is black or dark grey. I prefer black as it hides the grease and dirt that inevitably builds up on headphones after years of use.The headset is comfortable, not pressing hard on the ears at all, and with a nice degree of movement. The pads are soft and cushion well, with good sound isolation. (well, as good as over-ear can be).The connectors are wellmade and should last years. The mic works fine although I have used better. Now to the most important aspect, the sound. It is not quite Sennheiser quality (ie.e based on similar specification) but it is close. In gaming it is excellent, games like Battlefield 1 sound like a warzone, the clarity really adds to the immersion. For music they are less spectacular, but with some EQ tweaks you can get these sounding good with any genre, including audiobooks.I would prefer a longer cable, 4ft is not enough. 6ft would cost a pound or so more to make, this is a pointless cost cutting choice. I have to use extensions which inevitably reduce sound quality somewhat.Overall I was surprised by this product and have no hesitation recommending it, if you can get it for the "75 it often falls close to.

I tested this headset against the following headsets in my collection: the HyperX Cloud v1 and the Logitech G933. To make things even I used my sound-card rather than any USB dongles - mainly to get a flat EQ and have everything in stereo rather than 7.1 surround.I wore each headset for a few hours while playing games and here are my findings:The Sound Blaster X H5 Tournament Edition sounded the best and was the most comfortable but only just. The HyperX Cloud was very close to the H5 with the G933 suffering the most without leather ear cups for comfort, and hamstrung in stereo. The mics were pretty good but I felt the G933 just had the edge but again only just. The quality of the H5 is the best overall and it is the best looking too.The Free software is exactly what I expected - very basic.A lot of the settings made the headset sound worse and there is no way to fine tune the presets, so I ended up keeping it on flat. The software worked for all the headphones but all suffered with the presets. It was better to use the sound-card software in the end. With a bit of work it could be much better but hey it was FREE.The control half way down the cable is way too big for my liking and I feel it could be half the size it currently is.While I loved this head set for games I prefer the G933 in 7.1 and these two are in the same price range mostly. However if I was going to be wearing them for most of the day I think I would chose the H5’s as they didn’t sweat as much and felt the best on my ears.

This redesigned ‘Creative’ headset of over-ears stereo phones and detachable microphone is described as for gaming with product information explaining how drivers have been upgraded for better sensitivity and clearer, louder, more accurate reproduction. Certainly sound is superb. Product information also refers to upgrading of the microphone for better voice pick-up and better noise cancellation in loud gaming environments. I mainly want to listen to music, and without the mic (easily detachable) for me it boils down to a superb headset with superb multi-channel sound quality; with particularly superb bass. The headset is lightweight but its construction in metal is robust, and appearance is attractive in black and silver. The wide luxurious padded headband allows the headset to be totally comfortable together with good sized foam cushion and leatherette finish to over-ears cups. Stalk and cables fit securely. The microphone has a soft feel ‘bendy’ stalk, and the ‘Creative’ headset is provided with primary and secondary jack-to-jack braided cable of plentiful length with on-line controller for connecting to my laptop, and a splitter for the microphone if I so wish. I was minded to deduct a star as the packaging is difficult to penetrate – but on the other hand it is worth keeping the hard plastic shell as a protective container. The ‘Creative’ headset itself is a superb 5-star product.

This headset is well made and nicely finished, with no rough seams or edges and soft, thick ear pads. The mic is detachable, but it is also very flexible and I find it easy to fold it back out of the way if I am not on Teamspeak. When listening to the radio whilst working I found the sound quality excellent, music sounds are deep and rich and there are no distortions in radio voices. When playing World of Warcraft and using Teamspeak at the same time the quality of the headset really comes out. The variey of voices in foreign accents from all over the world are crystal clear and you can tell the gender and even the mood of the person talking. The game sounds are equally good, the evil reverb used for Death Knights comes right through the 'phones and into your brain! Music is also transmitted really well, although I am not a music buff so I cannot advise on quality of base sounds and other technical details. I do know I can hear the nuances of complex tracks with these headphones.Perhaps most importantly of all they are comfortable. I have raided and played WOW for hours at a time without my ears being sore. They effectively cancel out noise from the room around me.

My son has the previous version of this headset so it was good to tr the new version. First off, very quick and easy to set up once you get it out of the (beautiful but quite fiddly) packaging. Build quality is excellent, nothing flimsy about this kit, it is obviously built to last and take a fair degree of punishment from itinerant gamers who are prone to dump stuff on floors (oh the voice of experience from a father to two teenagers). They are very comfortable to wear, which is important of they are on for several hours at a stretch. From my perspective (using them to listen to music) I found they didn't give me itchy ears as some other types have in the past so a plus point from Dad there.Sound quality is great, optimised for gaming I guess and the frequencies common in games but also lovely for listening to music on those occasions when the kids let you pinch them. I also liked the microphone - detachable when not in use (so you don't look like a space mission controller when listening to Beethoven) but ideal when playing, or chatting with friends over the internet. All in all an excellent piece of kit that has clear value beyond the gaming sphere.

Had these fort a few months now, have had no faults yet.Reviews saying the connector wears out were easily solved by... leaving the 3.5mm jack in. No need to take it out. Great braided cable and comes with a splitter/extender for your mic and audio jacks.Mic sounds as good as your soundcard and mixer allow it to be, works fine for teamspeak.Mute switch and volume control is my favourite thing about these, i reach for the volume wheel on all my headphones now beause its so convenient.Creative have a great soundstage, no need for their software. These sound better without it. Full sound with a wide soundstage, clear highs and enough bass for your summer blockbuster.Built very well from what i can tell, full metal band, enough padding for the headband (not as much as the H7) and the earcups have enough space for even the largest ears. Wish they included a set of fabric cups like the HyperX Clouds but these are just fine. These really are built for gaming, no problems wearing these for an entire day. No sweat, light clamping force and zero head fatigue from the weight. Its a coin flip between these and the HyperX Cloud or Cloud IIs.

I want to hate these headphones, because I love my mad catz freq 4d, but they've aged and age hasn't been good to the old cans and they needed replacing. So, I reluctantly had these as replacements and I love them. The quality of the sound with these, isn't as quite as bassy as the mad catz, but it's got such a crisp sound across all frequencies, making for a very clean quality sound. I do miss the deeper elements of the base, but I can't fault the headphones just for that. They are very comfortable and a great fit and I have a genuinely big head (no pun intended), but they fit well and sit snugly over my ears. They are also lightweight and if I had time to, I could happily wear them all day. They are a more than suitable replacement for my mad catz and I couldn't ask for more really. At this point in time, I am not quite sure about the durability of them, as whilst they look solid enough, there are areas I'd question for longevity with the pins which attach the plastic parts to the metal head band, they don't quite look like they will last long, but time will tell. Should they fail or break anytime soon, I will update the review.

My son has been looking for a set of wired headphones to take to his friends' houses to avoid the need to set up dongles on the PS4 - they definitely hit the spot.Setup is far simpler than a wireless set (although he recently got some Turtle Beach headphones will worked right away so it is not always the case), it is just a case of plugging them in and that is it.Sound quality: perfect, both in terms of audio and also relaying sound via the mic. No issues at all and he said he could hear even the faintest footsteps, which is required on certain online games (so he tells me).Comfort; no issue at all. Playing for an hour or so gave no problem,no sweating and he said he forgot they were there. At over £100 they are not cheap but you are getting the usual Creative quality. A bit more robust than some Sennheiser headphones we bought recently for the Mac, and they are excellent so it shows how good the Creative set is.Highly recommended

I really like these - the sound is great and they're really comfortable to wear. The four pole jack (i.e. combined mic and headphone) is a good length for plugging in to a smartphone or laptop and worked great with my HTC 10. The extension cable is also of a fair length and I had no problems reaching around to the back of my PC where it has two familiar pink and green separate jacks.Honestly I've not bothered with the software as they sound good without it and I'd rather listen to my music as intended rather than having some special processing fudging it.My only complaint is that while the headphone boom is removable, it is difficult to fit your fingers in the gap between the boom and the headphone cup.Another weird thing is that the main connecting lead is keyed - despite being a round cable.A word to this wise though - check the price on Creative's site first =D.

Comfort Guaranteed - These are by far the most comfortable headphones for long sessions and long lasting Pads.Strong & Sturdy - The manufacturer recognises the importance in durability and factors in a design that will serve for a very long lasting pair of headphones. Unlike lots of other brands...Audio Fab - I struggle with my hearing form year of self abuse. The software is a bit naff but the standard sound is great alone. Musicians can trust the flat frequency knowing that what they hear is what they are streaming. The volume controls are perfect as well as the simple detachable cable makes things safe for if it snaggs and easy for storing away without accessing those potential awkward areasonce cable managed.

Obtained for my son who is into the gaming malarky! These well made and sturdy headphones complete with mic offer excellent clear sound quality and with proper ear shells which cover the ear totally-unlike those silly 'on ear' headphone sets you can get-they keep the wearer 'in the zone' and exclude exterior babble.Of course, you don't have to use them as gaming headphones. detach the mic and just use them as you would any music headphone. Fully adjustable so big heads and pin heads can wear them comfortably !Good value and a great prezzie for Christmas.

Sound great paired with soundblaster g6 dac. Primeraly used for xbox one. And for pc. Sound good across the board. Gaming and media consumption. Very comfortable too. Quite light compared to some other headsets. But feels quite premium and super soft padding make this very comfortable for long use. Sound is very crisp and clear. Bass is good. Mid treble are all great without sounding muddled or muddy. Deep punchy bass. To the crisp highs. Everything is far above average.
