I now have two of these, the Hornby vr2 and the Model Railway deluxe. Both installed and worked correctly without any problems. Both are good and I have had no problems with them. Each has their own way of constructing the board layout. The construction methods take a bit of getting used to but once mastered things are quite simple.A simulator is simply a "working" visual representation of an actual board layout but probably at a fraction of the cost. Where due to a variety of circumstances you are unable to build an actual board layout, then a visual simulation is probably the answer.The most difficult part of both simulator's is trying to get the tracks to line up so every works as it should.

This is the best model railway simulator I have come across. It is easy to use, and layouts can be simple or very complicated with trains controlling other trains. It can become a complex puzzle by deciding how the various trains should run, and then working out how to do it using the track control elements. The faults I have found are very very very minor but include: points being represented by what looks like curved track on top of straight track; headights not switching to the direction of travel; unable to minimise build icons at the top of the screen; some of the locomotive designs are slightly incorrect - what appears to be a very good representation of a Black 5 has TNT on the tender instead of LMS.

Bought somewhat as an afterthought for my 7 year old son. He gets to play with a proper model railway at his grandparents house. We don't have enough room so I thought this might be a reasonable substitute.It turns out that the software, in the words of my son, is "awesome". He's being using it solidly for several days for hours on end with no sign of getting fed up. He's thoroughly enjoying creating scenery and landscapes and ever more intricate railway layouts to run his trains on.He loves that there are endless possibilities for creating as many layouts as you want with the only limit being your imagination.

Bought for my 9 year old who loves model railways but is a little frustrated by the cost and inflexibility of the real thing. This gives him huge numbers of options of track layout, scenery, scale and flexibility that cannot be easily replicated in a physical system.He has had this a week now and it has easily surpassed all other games he's had in terms of hours spent so far in playing and enjoyment. My only slight negative comment is that it is may not suitable for all as some children may struggle with this in terms of the usability of the interfaces. I took a little time to work out some of the features but this is partly because we both jumped in to playing the game and once we went back

Appeared to have some track planning capability such as AnyRail (but more basic), but in reality it is just a simulator with only broad track layout creation. Bought for my son, principally to test ideas for a model railway layout for him to build in N guage.He enjoys it mostly, and spends a lot of time on it. He sums it up as "good, but frustrating at times" - I can testify to that, hearing him shouting at it on occasion. The lack of an "undo" function seems to be a particular niggle. Plus, on the sample layouts, the trains always stop longest inside mountains when on train level camera mode - cannot see anything except the green stuff on top of the mountain!

This programme had brought hours of fun to my grandson (almost 3years old) and me and we have only scratched the surface with regard to layout design etc. While the real thing is preferable the cost of such layouts can be prohitive, as is the space required. This Model Railway programme enables you to create complex layouts with quite a lot of detail while taking up the minimum of space and it is all so easy to "get out" and "pack away" at the end of the day - we don't get under anyone's feet. You can also create and save lots of different layouts. In summary, good fun and in my opinion good value for money.

I love this train simulation you can build a model railway in seconds.There are 11 tutorials that will help you guide through making yourown model railway.Also there are some tracks other people have done and you can play on them.It's like running your own model railway!!It's a two in one special because there is a wild west edition where it is like running a wild west train service!!!It is brilliant !!!Buy it now!!!

I started drawing up a plan for my nephew, and before long I'd been at it for almost two hours ! It's a great piece of software for either playing as a game, or using it as a planning tool for a real layout. The 'little guy' has been hinting at a train set for over a year - and since I know where he'll be using it, I'll be using this brilliant program to create a decent layout (and maybe build it) for him.

SWMBO says no to a real layout but this is almost better. It has so many features so that it takes a while to get started but once you can lay some track and get some trains running the fun is endless. Unlike a proper layout mistakes can be erased at the touch of a button and without cost. I would highly recommend this software for big kids everywhere.

Keeps my 4.5 year old grandson entertained for hours, with a little help from grandad. Even at his level of skill he is engrossed in it. I am sure it will keep him happy for many years to come and is very educational with him having to make choices, plan out track, place buildings and trains and control signals. Also so much more to do as he develops.

Takes a while to master the finer arts ofdesigning a more complicated layout but, with practice, you can do almost anything. I downloaded and printed off the full instructions which helps a lotIt is so good that you can spend too much time with it and not mowing the lawn!

bought this for my 5 year old grandson,can't keep him away from it ,its brilliant,i bought him a hornby train set for xmas,bad mistake he's far to young,i could have saved myself a fortune had i had bought this model railway game for him in the first place .

I've spent hours on this building different layouts, the graphics are a little dated but overall gameplay is amazing, digital layout took some getting used to. Well recommended. Shame the company can't update it with new stations, bridges etc

Great program allows you to layout a track and run realistic rolling stock. Great automation and control from the analogue menu, the digital control is less useful. From this a small step to a model railway in the real world.

This is a superb game for anyone who enjoys 'playing with' or constructing model railways. It is fun and very informative, helping you to avoid common mistakes when building your own layout, such as having 'dead' lines etc.
