If you like problem solving/engineering type games and puzzles, then you should buy Crazy Machines, though not necessarily this version. The game is essentially a series of puzzles, set up as "laboratory experiments" where you have to achieve some goal, such as getting an object into a certain position or blowing something up, and you have a lot of tools such as projectiles, catapults, electrical power sources, balls, etc. Only a few tools are available to you for each lab though, so it doesn't get unmanageably complex. There is a crazy professor who keeps talking to you, but you can turn him off. This game can be enjoyable for all ages, from 4 or 5 to adult, although younger children would need a lot of help.Below are some comments about the differences between version 1 and version 2.I have Crazy Machines 1 and 2, but haven't tried 1.5. If you have never tried the game before, then it may make more sense to get Crazy Machines 1 first for the following reasons:(a) On the older version, you don't need a high powered computer to run it - it installed easily on 3 different laptops, of varying ages,(b) you don't need the disc to run Crazy Machines 1, so two people can both play at the same time on different machines, which is fun with kids,(c) the puzzles seem to be more fun on the first version (I haven't played Crazy Machines 2 an awful lot yet, but so far, I find the puzzles to be designed in such a way that my solution always turns out to be the same as the "plan", that is, the game designers' own solution, which one can check after one has solved a problem. In the first version, the solutions we came up with were usually different from the plan, which is much more interesting).(d) the first version is somehow more charming. The written problem descriptions are irritatingly convoluted in the second version compared with the simple statements of the first. For Crazy Machines 2, here are the pros and cons:Advantages:(a) You don't have to solve every puzzle to go on to the next one. You can skip the odd one or two.(b) Both versions let you design your own puzzles, which is fun, and the second version should be better, because it has more objects you can use, including decorative objects, and generally has more versatility, e.g. you can organize your projects into chapters.(c) Better graphics: zoom in, change perspective (actually doesn't make much difference to the game play).(d) For kids: A kind of "world tour" theme.Disadvantages:(a) Problems installing: It wouldn't even start to install on my 3 year old windows XP machine: some useless message like "program failed to install". On my 1 year old machine, it installed easily, but would not run. Finally worked after updating the video driver and switching off the virus monitor that was running. (Runs fine now).(b) Won't work on your kids' old pc's, and (c) Only runs with the disc in the drive.

I bought this game for my 11 year old son. He likes the game very much. Unfortunately the game did not install on his own PC, which does comply with the minimum hardware requirements. On a newer PC the game can be installed without any problems.
