I bought it for my 6 year old daughter who has an interest in cooking. She absolutely loves this game, and now her 2 year old sister is hooked too... They both fight over who's turn it is to play this, every day. We've had this game for more than a month and they're still playing it every day is testimony to its value for money. It really keeps them quiet for at least an hour - that is, if they're not fighting over it again.Actually both of them don't really understand everything in the game and my 6 year old isn't able to read every word in the game, and my 2.5 year old needless to say can't even read at all, but still they manage to fumble around and "cook" something ... every time. The controls of this game are really intuitive and I can see why you don't have to be able to read the instructions on screen in order to cook the food although to be able to score well and unlock more recipes and special prizes, you've got to at least understand what is expected of you during each cooking task but that's usually not hard for my girls to comprehend, like when the task involves using a knife to chop veg, cut meat, or a blender or a whisk to combine the ingredients in the bowl, for instance, and there are a good many of those tasks in the game.I have a go at the game sometimes when I have a spare moment and always enjoy it! The range of recipes available for you to create on this game is big and international, so you can get to make anything from Korean pancakes to Panna Cotta to Ice Cream. The instructions are quite close to the real thing, although of course not exactly (how much more realistic do you want a cooking game to be? If its too bogged down in the details it wouldn't be fun for the kids...)My husband doesn't like the game though, but then again he's a man who doesn't like cooking that much (except for necessity)....I think this is a very good game for its genre and anticipate any further releases...

Cooking Mama 2 was the first game I got for my lovely new Turquoise DS Lite. This game was top of my list and I must say - it doesn't disappoint! I'm grown up and I love this game - I can only imagine how crazy about it I would have been when I was younger! There are three main areas to navigate around on the main menu. You can choose to `Cook with Mama', who will give you step-by-step instructions on recipes (great for introducing you to the game). From making Ravioli and T-Bone Steaks to pressing waffles and decorating iced cakes with strawberries and chocolate houses, Mama has the best recipes!!! Once you've mastered all of the whisking, blending, pouring and chopping techniques you think you'll need try cooking for a friend in `Let's Cook!' The recipes are the same but you won't have Mama helping you along and fixing things if they go wrong in the kitchen. Don't mess up!!! There is also a `Cooking Contest' option where you can play at mini challenges to win ribbon-wrapped pressies and lovely surprises. How many apples can you peel in two minutes? Know how to cut corn from the cob or wrap bamboo rice? The magic that really makes this game special comes from the joy of unlocking new recipes, winning new friends to cook for and enjoying its whimsical aesthetics (swooshing rainbows and dancing gingerbread men anyone?) You can earn bonuses that give you new accessories and clothes for mama, and even new kitchen designs. From the colour of the wall clock to the style of the kitchen units, yup yup, you can change it all!!! My mama now lives in a wooden log cabin with a brick fireplace and a window looking out onto trees covered in winter snow. These may be trifling details that don't actually affect gameplay but they really give the game a charming appeal and make it so much more fun to play!!!This game comes highly recommended, and with all the things you now know - how can you resist?

The Good:*Lots more recipes.*Now you can also dress Cooking Mama and decorate your own kitchen in your favourite colour.*You can cook for people related to Cooking Mama or cook for Cooking Mama and watch them try your dish and see if they like it.*More realistic. When you burn something or for example you don't hold the lid down on the blender you will get a try hard (this is when you are cooking for someone) and Cooking Mama will say: 'presenting' so and so and you will hear some bad tune and the medal you get, lets say a silver will have a dent at the back of it + you will see the blender with the lid off,a dull screen and the person looking rather upset.*When you have cooked something for Cooking Mama or someone else you can also record this in diaries + if you want to decorate the page in the diary you can, for example if you wanted Cooking Mama to look funny you could put snouts for her nose to make her look like a pig, this would go well when making pork or beef, etc.*Nice and easy to control by using the stylus.----------------------------------------The Bad:*Mama's voice gets frustrating*Multiplayer is only when two people vs each other at the general activities; not actual recipesOverall I would say this is a fun game for 1 player but at 2 players or more you cannot cook recipes against each other but you can do different cooking activities which can get a bit boring.Otherwise this is fun for all ages, would be really good for a present. As the other reviewer said: 'probably one of or the best game on the Nintendo DS.'Not good; great - would get an 8/10 from me.

Negatives out first; It wasn't all smiles, There were some really pointless features to the game; you could change the colour to things like `Mama's' dress, the kitchen and pans? That really didn't do much for me and also the game stopped you at the end of each dish, (failed or completed) letting you know that you earned some pointless stars that if you get 5 of you earn some pointless prizes you wouldn't really see again. Pointless. Also `Mama', very irritating!Positives; There are so many different recipes ranging in difficulty and in technique that the game grips you and holds you firmly to your Ds. The game begins with you cooking for `Mama' who starts you off with particular recipes that you need to complete.Once you have completed the set meals you are given new dishes and marked on how well you have done each step in the recipe, your awarded with a bronze silver or gold plate and a patronising well done from `Mama' herself. The game aids you in gaining new skills for each different recipe and you don't need to have played the first one to get the second.Overall the positives outweigh the negatives so much that `Cooking Mama 2' in my opinion is a must have in everyone's collection.

Bought for my 7 year old daughter and it has been a really good buy. It is good because it is so simple and each bit doesn't take very long. She is able to do everything herself because it is all stylus based and she doesn't lose interest because she doesn't get stuck - unlike some platform games. She likes keeping the diary, changing mamas clothes and decorating the kitchen and that fact that you get prizes/stars for good cooking. There are so many recipes and different difficulty levels and therefore the game should appeal to older children too. I expect she will get a lot of enjoyment from it. It wasn't purchased as an educational game but she is actually picking up a lot of things - I suspect she could make a better pizza than me now, although that is not difficult! My 4 year old son is also able to play the game although needs help with the instructions as he cannot read everything. Despite this he is able manage to cook things on his own as mama 'fixes' errors on the mini games.Personally I find the voice irritating but my daughter does not - she loves it in fact.

I got this game Cooking Mama 2 for DS on my 14th birthday. i think this game is great the controlls are simple and it is all stylus work. what's different about this to the first Cooking Mama is that you can earn bonuses which are little pictures to put in your diary i find this rather pointless. it is an excellent game but one flaw is i've only had this game for under a week and i think i've unlocked all of the recipes and earned gold on most. i don't think this game will last some people long but I personally never get tired of games and play them over and over. it is a great game filled with brand new recipes, some easy and some really difficult ones and you will definatley find yourself going back in a despirate attempt to earn gold on every recipe (like me!)if you like more complex games that will take long to complete i would advise this game, but still an amazingly fun game fit for any ds collection young and old!

Well i got this game after my exams but had played it previously on a friend's DS. The 'Cook With Mama' selection is very good and has loads of new stuff to cook including sweet stuff which on the old game only had savoury food. But when you cook for friend it is really iratating when if you get one thing wrong while cooking you have to start all over!It gets very annoying. In the new game you can also choose what mama wears, design the kitchen and choose the colour of the stuff you use to cook.Once you have cooked something you can save it to your 'diary' and win icons which are placed in the diary of your choice,if you do well after cooking something.Over all it is a very good game and worth it.

This game is one of the best for the DS and is addictive. Although cooking is a strange concept for a game it is a lot of fun. The main part is cooking different dishes for "Mama" who then gives you a score depending on how well you did. Cooking the different recipes unlocks new ones and so forth. Another fun part is cooking for friends but be aware as Mama is not helping you cannot screw up. A lot of the controls and actions are similar to the first game so if you didn't like that one this is not for you. A really great addition to this game is more western dishes like ice-cream and cakes etc but some old favourites like Oden are back. 10/10

I purchased this game in Feb of this year and completed it once but I started to find it quite hard and a bit boring. I traded it in at my local game store to buy myself another 2 DS games. I really wish I hadn't parted with it now as I could have persevered with it to complete it loads more times. I purchased this game again brand new from my local supermarket called Tesco and took it on the vacation I've just returned from. While on vacation I completed the game with flying colours. I'm very happy with the game once again and hope to complete it more and more.

Cooking Mama 2 has been a surprise sensation with our nine year old daughter. She can play it for hours on end - but all your really do is "cook" dishes on the DS. There are no challenges to beat, or enemies to defeat so anyone can play it without getting frustrated. If it gets kids even slightly interested in food and cooking then it is a good thing. A worthwhile buy.

I bought this for my daughter who had played on her friends Cooking Mamma 1 game and loved it. At first she was a bit disappointed as it wasn't the same as the one she had played on, but after a day or two she was over the moon. It is constantly being played by either my daughter, my son or even my husband!!! Great game, highly recommended.

I got this game for my daughter last year and we still play it now, There's something quite therapeutic about peeling veg with your stylus, chopping onions etc. There are many things to do and many recipes to unlock. Me and my kids love it.

We've got Gardening Mama so though we'd give this a go. My 6 year old loves making different dishes and showing me when she's finished. She wants to help more in the kitchen and is keen to practice what she's done in the game.

Cooking Mama, but 2! I'm not great at it but it makes me feel like a real cook and I've got recipes for future use at my disposal. I love unlocking more as I go along too.

12.3.2009
