A fantastic game with a really interesting sci-fi story and world. You are given a gun and a bunch of telekinetic powers, both of which grow into a variety of different types of tools as you progress. Overall this leads to a fun and weird experience as you kill a decent variety of enemies utilising things like charged up cannon shots and throwing boulders, you even have to solve the odd puzzle. From a performance point of view, it looks pretty good and runs well on my One X, but I've heard the game has had some framerate issues on the base console. But, 505 games (the game publisher), recently announced that they are releasing and much cheaper Ultimate edition of the game from September 2020.This will include the game, all dlc and a free upgrade to the Xbox Series X when that console released (same for the ps4/ps5 version). If you already own the game (with or without the dlc), you will not get the Series X upgrade. They've been very vague as to why they've done this quoting 'blockers'. This seems like an excuse. The architecture of the next gen Consoles are incredibly similar to the current ones, and are basically PCs. The switch over should be pretty easy, it'll probably be a simple case of porting a higher specced pc build of the game. Proof of this is the fact that the ultimate version will run on both generations, and that the existing version will run without the next gen enhancements in backwards compatibility mode on the Series X. This is a cash grab. It should also be noted that a load of other games from other devs/publishers have been confirmed to have a free upgrade to the next generation, look up Xbox Smart Delivery. If you haven't already bought the game, wait for the ultimate edition for the best value. If you're willing to wait, or don't mind not getting the next gen upgrade, I recommend buying the game in a sale or used, so 505 get as little of your money as possible.

I got this game free with Ps plus so perhaps my judgement is swayed by not forking out full price. It is true that the game has a couple of graphics issues but they're really not a game spoiler in the grand scheme of things. And yes the map can be hard to navigate and some of the puzzles are quite hard. But if you grew up with games that didn't treat you like an idiot or saved your progress every 5 minutes then this will be a welcome return to form. The storyline is very inventive and pretty insane, it can take a while to really understand what the whole thing is about. The first couple of hours can feel like a bit of a slog but it's worth the effort. The script itself ranges from cheezy to brilliant, with the acting equally so. The brilliant parts more than make up for the bad bits.Just like the main character, the player is thrown in the deep end knowing very little about what to do or how the game will unfold. If searching dark corners for Easter eggs that really flesh out the story isn't your thing then you're going to miss out on one of the best parts of this game. There are also sub-texts and hints at a broader story that requires imagination and effort on the part of the player to fully grasp the finer details of what has happened. For me this was a perfect mixture of action and quality storytelling, but not without it flaws. If you don't enjoy both of those things or putting mental effort into a game then you'll probably not enjoy it.

I started playing this on Gamepass without any idea what to expect. I was in for a pleasant surprise! The controls work very well, allowing you to use your gun (which is pretty satisfying and meaty) and "force" powers with ease - it is intuitive and great fun smashing attacking enemies with a thrown forklift truck!I was playing the original edition, not the enhanced but even so, on my Series S I thought the graphics were very good and, more importantly perhaps, imaginative. I really loved the 1980's Cold War-era feel of the FBC building, it was very atmospheric and different to the usual settings you get in games.I enjoyed the main game so much that I completed it quite quickly (the fact there'sa God mode and other ways to adjust the difficulty was a HUGE bonus for me as I love to enjoy a game's story without too much of a challenge or grind). I then went on to buy the Season Pass but, honestly, both DLCs I found very boring and not a patch on the original game. So, in my view, you should definitely buy or play the main, original game, as it's wonderful but maybe not so much the DLCs.

I understand where the other reviewers are coming from. The map system is definitely a piece of useless work (or not work). The ending was a little rushed. And the combat got a little repetitive by the end.But Jesus Chris, everything else. You’ve got the hidden references to Alan Wake, you’ve got the poets of the fall Easter egg, you’ve got the whole Fringe vibe going on, you’ve got the eclectic humour in places, you’ve got that Lynchian horror, you’ve got the amazing psychic abilities. You’ve got the expertly written notes scattered across the world that create a deep spooky atmosphere. And then, there’s the whole sequence with the Finnish metal and the morphing corridors that is by far the best PS4 moment I’ve had since the console was released.Yes. Even The Last of Us doesn’t compare. The game is hugely underrated. Anyone reading this review, just give it a try. You’ll get used to its idiosyncrasies fairly quickly.

Really enjoying this game.. proper creepy atmosphere. If you’ve not got an amazing sound system set up, I’d recommend playing it with headphones so you really get the full experience of all the sound effects. It feels like a different kind of game if you’re playing just using the sound from the tv speakers.I don’t have the same problem with the map that others here have mentioned but to be fair I enjoy just exploring in a game. As serious as the game initially appears, there’s also some humour there (though I’m not sure if the kids tv programme is meant to be funny or terrifying - I find it to be the latter).Yeah there can be a little lag/jitter when you un-pause the menu that - if you expect perfection - could get annoying. But I learned early on not to pause it during battle moments. I’ve been playing it on an original PS4.Would defo recommend.. it’s on PS Now atm - it’s defo more than worth the £8 a month.

Excellent FPS, obvious nods to another game 'Alan Wake' plenty of side quests, lots of action with an engrossing story but, as per some other reviews, loading reset takes a long time when the character gets killed and every couple of sessions, the screen freezes and I've had the message ''Insufficient memory to progress'' come on the screen. That would be acceptable if that were so, but I maintain memory frequently and at present, I have over a third of a terabyte in reserve, so there's a possible patch issue somewhere. That being said, taking my star award down a notch, it's still a good, solid game and enjoyable enough, apart from the time delays and x box memory glitch, that I'm not the only one to have experienced, so I'm happy enough to recommend it with these caveats.

If you like Psi-ops on PS2, then you'll love this!Really challenging enemies and great A.I. with the ability to use telekinesis and other powers. The game is visually stunning and very atmospheric with a haunting feeling and some jump scares. It was not what I expected when I first played but I love it.It is a long play with an in depth storyline and fun mini objectives to play. You will die A LOT in this game as the enemies are challenging however there is an option to enable cheats via the pause menu to help you when needed - you can even make yourself invincible if you want to skip through the game!I recommend this to my friends and family.

Check out Argos if you’re interested in a game, and you don’t want to pay Xbox store prices. Game trailers can be deceiving, a title can look incredible but play out terribly, so it’s a good idea to be hesitant when forking out a chunk of money, and shop around for a better deal. Control has a stellar storyline, insane graphics and a bizzare and intriguing world. Combat style is innovative, and the puzzles are satisfying and mind bending, no stealth, which I’m fine with. Highly recommended!

Entertaining gameplay and always good to see original story telling and art style in new games.Albeit the story is ok but the gaming mechanics are great and keep you coming back to play. One negative is that sometimes when there is a high level of activity going on during gameplay the console (PS4) struggled to keep the picture sharp, but this happened rarely enough. It is not a ‘must have’ PS4 title such as ‘God of War’ and ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’, but it’s worth a try. 7/10 for me.

The developer Remedy’s track record of games has always been great, this game is no different. With a very Twin Peaks style premise, the story utterly absorbs you. Each character has just enough depth for you to care about what happens, without giving too much away which leaves you guessing. Gameplay is smooth and intuitive, not all clues are handed to you so expect a challenge, puzzles aren’t too complex but sit nicely in the game world. Graphics are jaw dropping.

If you like your surrealism in video games or want to see how surreal they can get pick this game up, This game is made by the same developers as Max Payne and the quality really shows. The sound quality is amazing to, for most of the game you will be inside a office building which might sound boring but if you look around the building changes and the mystery unfolds. If you want to play something unique and award winning give this one a shot. You won't regret it.

A really interesting experience that feels like it borrows elements from Silent Hill, Hellblade and, to a cerain extent, Beyond: Two Souls. The game boasts some genuinely creepy moments as well enviroments that can be almost fully destroyed. A downside is that I felt it could become rather repetitive at points due to many locations having similar colour schemes and feel to them. A minor criticism which is overall a strong horror sci-fi experience.

A great adventure action game that lets you play as Jesse the new Director of The Federal Bureau of Control. The game leads you on a journey why Jesse has arrived at the oldest house. The Oldest House is the HQ of the Bureau and you explore building finding out its mysteries and taking it back from under control of the Hiss the games enemy. While exploring the Oldest House you find new weapons and powers to combat the Hiss. Highly recommend.

Been playing it for about a week now and have been thoroughly enjoying it. I have been a fan of Remedy’s work for years and love the Max Payne series, so when I saw footage on how this game played I knew the gameplay would be appealing, but the story is incredibly interesting as well. All in all, I would definitely recommend the experience to anyone looking for a compelling single player journey with tight gameplay and story.

A mix of high-pressure combat familiar to AAA shooters, Jedi-style powers and occasional puzzles.A unique storyline that owes much to the cinema of Kubrick and the dream-logic of Twin Peaks. Outstanding graphics, environments and overall design aesthetic.CONTROL will not hold your hand. Expect nail-biting firefights and level exploration. For fans of Battlefront but also of Stranger Things, LOST and Eerie Indiana.
