Update, 28th Jan 2016:Well, almost a year on, and how has it fared? Well, extremely well. I am very impressed with the durability of it. It still works exactly the same as the first day we bought it, keeping the tea/coffee hot for several hours, and it has been used almost every day fo rthe daily commute to work. The elegant red paint has slowly been chipped and scratched, and eventually come away a little (mainly at the bottom, but most of it is still there on the rest of the bottle however), but then it has been thoroughly used - thrown onto empty car passenger seats and bouncing into the footwell, turned upside down and shoved into bags, squashed next to whatever else is in the bag that day (most likely a ton of paerwork and plastic files),dropped and kicked (accidentally). In all that, it still has not leaked, though it did suffer one very small dent on the bottom, but that didnt affect the functionality. Recently, my wife left it somewhere and lost it (NOOOO!!!), so i immediately ordered exactly the same product again, and i'm delighted to see it is still the same reliable product i purcahsed almost a year ago. Buy with confidence - the paint may get scratched, but the main function of this mug will continue to work as intended - its a keeper.Original Review: 12th March 2015:Really great item for what it is made for - as long as you know what it's made for :)Ok, first things first - For those of you looking for a THERMOS FLASK, in other words, a product that will keep your chosen beverage boiling hot for hours and hours on end, THIS IS NOT THE PRODUCT. I've had a proper Thermos flask and after 24 hours i poured out my tea and it was still hot. This product will not do this. This product will keep your tea/coffee hot for a few hours tops - 3- 4 hours max. Which is exactly what it startes in its claims. The product doesn't contain glass, nor is it a superbly vacuum insulated product - the stopper design is ingenious, but will still allow heat loss - much more so than the traditional screw-top Thermos flasks. It consists of a double walled steel container, which means it will transmit heat more than those made of glass and plastic/ glass and metal. As a result of both of these factors, its function is very specific - short term insulation. So, why would you use this?Well, remeber, it is designed as a travel mug. Its not a massive flask with a cup on top. It's purpose therefore is to simple last you on your travels and keep your drink nice and hot.So, its 7am in the morning. You make your 400ml cup of tea, pop it in the travel mug, and off you go - driving/train etc. When you want a drink, you press the button and take a sip. 8am - you can still sip. 9am - still sipping and happy. 10am still sipping and well into my mornings work. 11am - just about still nice to drink. Then just refill if your workplace has a kitchen/tea making area. And of course do the same for the journey home.So its function is just that - a very convenient, excellently made travel mug - exactly as it states, nothing more, nothing less.Try this with a THERMOS flask? In a moving car where you are a passenger, just think of unscrewing the cup, unscrewing the lid pouring the flask whilst cradling the cup on your lap, risking the liquid falling onto your lap - and if you are the only person in the car and driving..well it's clearly dangerous to even attempt! Even in a parked car, there is still that risk! And you have to stop of course :) Wasting your precious time. Then you have to drink it carefully without letting it spill on yourself as you go over bumps and turns. Then you have to repeat it again if you want another cup.IN short,What this IS: this is a perfectly designed TRAVEL MUG, suitable for commuting, and also a little bit into your day :)BUY THIS IF: You want to drink your tea/coffee while you commute to and from work, or on your travels in the car. What this IS NOT: This is NOT a thermos flask. It will not be suitalbe for anyone going camping/fishing/hiking for extended periods of time. If you take this on an 8 hour hike, your tea will be cold.DON't BUY THIS IF: You actually want boiling hot tea.coffee after 24 hours. Instead, buy a real thermos flask. My wife loves it - she makes her tea in the morning, and gets to sip it as she drives along and also when she gets to work. Perfect. It's also very easy to clean, and the new design has a lock button which stops the button being pressed accidentally. We bought the Red Contigo one 470 ml. ALthough it says 470 ml, you can only realistically put in just under 400ml, as the rest of the space is needed for the lid.

Well to say I'm happy with this mug is a good start all be it one small thing which isn't a fault of the product. So here's my review. The mug is rather good looking the mug does a great job of keeping the outer surface cool even with boiling water straight from the kettle poured into the mug you will not feel the heat while holding the mug. This is a different story for the rubber screw down lid.The lid is made from a moulded thick rubber the moving parts i.e the button and the release latch (the trap door that opens to allow fluid to pass through) they are made from a plastic now these parts and the rubber screw down lid they get very hot and as it is the lid that you tend to hold the mug byas the release button is in the lid which you squeeze to allow fluid to pass through you will notice the heat. That said it not some thing that would put me off buying another (some thing I intend to do so).The lid is very easy to screw on to the mug the threads are very wide and there's very little chance of cross threading if any I would think you'd need to put some real effort into doing so.The release button is very firm though this button does protrude passed the body of the lid it is not some thing that would easily be depressed. To test the quality of the claimed non drip I filled the mug to the thread line with boiling hot water from the kettle screwed the lid down and proceeded to shake the mug as hard as I could and I am pleased to say not one drip escaped.I have used this mug a number of times now and I carried out the drip test again and still the same results not one drip escaped. So I would very happily recommend this mug for travelling as a non drip product. Now the only real down side or myself is the fact that it holds so very little yes I know the volume is list in the details but I found that I wanted more and for the price I think you should get more. This said don't get me wrong it is a very good mug and I will happily say the best travel mug I have ever owned but for the price I think it is over priced.I see no reason why it should cost so much also when it comes to cleaning the mug you really do need to spend some time cleaning it it does state that the lid is dishwasher safe though after its been through the cycle you will need to flush hot water through the mouth piece then allow to dry. Also the only mug body that Contigo state is dishwasher safe is the stainless steal body not the coloured mug bodies though these are the same mug bodies I think it must have some thing to do with the paint used on the body of the mug. With that said I have put the mug through a cycle in my dishwasher on light wash and after removing the mug I am now able to hear the noise of water between the walls of the mug????Oh yes and here's a big tip REMEMBER to release the pressure from the mug by depressing the button while the mug is away from you're face as pressure will naturally build up inside the mug when there is a hot liquid inside and you will get a blast of steam from the mouth piece when you release the pressure. So yes it's a good mug yes I am going to buy another (larger) size.Is it worth the money well that depends on how much you are going to use it.Please excuse the lack of grammar punctuation and spelling I'm extremely dyslexic.

Why do I like this mug so much and have given it 5 stars? Here's why I reckon the product is worth every penny:1.) It really does keep drinks hot for 4 hours and cold for 12 hours. In fact I’ve kept coffee for well over 4 hours (business meeting overrun) and it’s still been surprisingly warm to drink after all that time.2.) One handed method of pressing the latch to drink works brilliantly while you’re walking. If you’re driving please don’t(!), but if you must ...3.) It’s completely spill and leaf proof - to the surprise of friends (and my wife) when I showed them.4.) My wife ordered one the moment I demonstrated the additional safety catch that prevents accidental opening of the lid when you put it your handbag.Hers, not mine. I have a manbag. She also got why I spent so much money on this mug and agreed it’s worth it. Hurrah. Out of trouble on that one!5.) Dishwasher safe. Yay. Both parts for the stainless steel version.6.) Fits the car cup holders in my Ford Focus Titanium. Safety tip: only drink while parked stationary. Sorry, couldn’t help that. I’m a driving instructor.7.) Extra loyalty stamp free with every coffee purchased from Caffè Nero. Can’t believe I’ve just done a promo for Caffè Nero, but the high street coffee chains applaud you for avoiding disposable (non-recyclable) paper cups. Tell ‘em your mug holds 470ml / 16oz. They seem to know.8.) Feel smug about doing your bit to save the environment!Regarding cleaning the mug, it couldn’t be simpler. I’ve been using the stainless steel (non-coloured) version for some weeks now and put both parts in the dishwasher to clean each time after use. Beware though that Contigo advise washing the body of the mug by hand if you have a painted version rather than the plain Stainless Steel one. As advised in the accompanying literature, I put the lid on the top shelf of our dishwasher remembering to release the mechanism inside the lid first. Both lid and body of the mug come out super clean every time. As other reviewers have mentioned, remember to click the mechanism back before screwing the lid back on to the mug, otherwise it will leak when you next use it.I have absolutely no reservations whatsoever in recommending this product. My wife ordered one for herself the instant she tried it, but then, sadly, charged the order to my debit card. Hmm.

I bought this travel mug a month ago and used it every working day. This is the best travel mug I ever seen and friends and colleagues are now considering buying one !1) The drink remains hot ridiculously long. I make my drink around early in the morning and it's often hot (not lukewarm) at noon. Now i need to consider topping it up with cold water in order not to burn myself. The manufacturer correctly says: "If filling with boiling liquid, allow liquid to cool down 'with the lid off' for at least 3 minutes before attaching the lid" But it's easier cooling down a drink than warming it up, so no problem !2) You won't burn your hands holding it ! With other mugs, the exterior becomes super hot with time because of the drink. It means either I'm burning my hands while holding it or I need to be careful that it's not next to electronics if I put it in my bag. This one, no problem at all! The exterior remains cool and I even put it in my bag on a chocolate bar for more than an hour after making my drink, the chocolate didn't melt at all. Super good (but that also means you need to be careful when drinking not to burn yourself as the drink may be super hot while the mug is cool. You get accustom to that very quickly).3) No leak at all. The Autoseal button is very discreet and very good against leak. You can also lock this button if you put the mug in your bag thanks to the easy lock on the top of the mug. I'm absolutely not scared putting my drink in my bag next to important paper !4) It's super easy to clean. The lid can pivot, no loose piece, you're just bringing the mouthpiece out so it's easy to clean everywhere. As opposed to other mugs or bottles, it means that every parts can be cleaned easily, much better hygiene ! The top part is also dishwasher safe, if you have one.5) The mug can contain a real big drink, not a small one !6) The mug comes in plenty of beautiful colour. That's not the most important thing but I'm really happy of my blue mug, it's beautiful, original and I can't get it mix up.Definitely a great mug, super useful and easy to use. I recommend it to friends and family and even consider buying it as a useful Christmas gift !

I required a leak proof mug for different reasons than most. Mine being that I have an uncontrollable and intolerable shake, so to hold a normal cup can be interesting to say the least. I happened upon this product quite by chance and yes I agree with the others with regard to the price it is on the expensive side. I have found if you fill the cup too high and then seal it with the lid it tends to leak I can only deduce that the less air space inside the more pressure there would be?! I don't know exactly why. However if you leave it for a bit and then release the button and relieving the pressure all seems well. the cup is ergonomically designed and having relatively small hands I have no trouble squeezing the trigger whilst drinking, although if you have arthritic hands this could be irksome. The contents stay hot for a good amount of time I've found the first hour its almost too hot to drink but after that its fine. with regards to someone else's review stating the lid was unhygienic due to not being able to be cleaned effectively, in the instructions it states to hold the lid inverted, fill with soapy water and then release the trigger/button this allows the liquid with the aid of gravity to pass through effectively. Doing this a couple of times followed with clean water is enough to ensure the lid is free from any past residual. It also claims its dishwasher proof but as yet I have not done this due to the tarnishing which sometimes is evident from several washes but that is a personal preference only. The main metal body/chamber stays remarkably cool on the outside leading you to almost forget you've got a hot drink, with the lid remaining warm throughout the duration of the hot drink. All in all It does exactly what it is suppose to. To say it is temperamental would be an unfair statement I do however believe once you've mastered its idiosyncrasies you'll be friend for life especially on long journeys!

5 STARS: was looking for the perfect coffee travel mug and have now found it.(1) I've had it for 10 months - waited to do a proper review :have used it about 4 days a week since then, so has been road tested.Has survived the cold and kept sand and wasps out of my drinks on the beach.(2) At time of purchase ( December 2014) this was the newest version. It's a big improvement on the older version I borrowed from my brother, which had no top-of -lid lock button : on the older model the drinking button could be depressed by accident, leading to your drink spilling out into your bag / car.(3)This new model has coped with keeping drinks hot for the 1.5 hours each way commute to work, but have found that pre-warming is essential to maintain the heat for this length of time, as lid gives out a little heat.(4) Lid easy to clean by hand( not tried dishwasher).(5) FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS to ensure you flip the centre part of the lid back to the right position after washing the lid - it IS possible to put the lid back on without doing this, and then it's just like pouring a mug of coffee into your bag ( Trust me on this one!). When properly installed, it's 100% waterproof in my experience.(6) Have only tried with hot drinks, not cold drinks or soup, so cannot vouch for cleaning/getting rid of smell of soup, and as aperture is small, I imagine only a smooth soup would get through the space.Have had no difficulty using outdoors in winter without taking off thick gloves.Bought the plain stainless steel version.I used to buy coffee on the way into work most days in the winter, and have saved £2.50 -7.50 a week in the cold weather, and no queues!I deliberated for a while before getting this because it's a more expensive product, but as others have said, it's really worth it.I used to buy coffee on the way into work most days in the winter, and have probably saved £7 a week

This has become the only mug I use, even just at home!1) The 'autoseal' button for drinking. I'm constantly on my laptop so I was always terrified of spilling before this mug. The button means even if you're drinking and drop it the mug would seal itself straight away. There's also no way of it spilling during travel even when it's not upright, which deceptively isn't the case with some other 'spillproof' mugs. I've put it in my rucksack and in the bottle holder on my bike and it's been fine. (NB. I probably wouldn't make a habit of using the bike holder just because the tight metal against metal felt like it would damage the paint after a while, but it would be fine in a looser/plastic holder.)2)The lock stops you pressing the button by accident. This is mostly good for peace of mind in normal situations but is especially good for using in bed without having to worry about rolling over onto the mug! I have it lying down flat beside me and it doesn't leak or spill. This is good for students etc. with small room and little furniture. It means I don't have to leave a mug on the floor and have to precariously reach to pick it up and risk forgetting and spilling it on everything else I have to keep on the floor due to lack of furniture. No more mugs of tea next to my extension lead sockets...3) The drinking spout. I thought I wouldn't like as much as china mugs but it's actually fine! I much prefer it to my standard flask where you either have to pour it into the plastic lid/cup or drink from the metal body - this way you neither get the metal taste (the metal bit doesn't go in your mouth) nor the plastic taste (because the tea barely comes into contact with it). It also pours nicely and accurately.5) The Emerald Green colour. It's a really strong colour and I love it!I don't have any real cons. I've not tested how long it stays warm. Cleaning is fine.

This is the best travel mug I've tried so far, also the most expensive. You get what you pay for. Another reviewer commented that she couldn't put it in her bag for fear that the button might get accidentally depressed and leak inside the bag. I suppose this could happen, but I've used this mug for 5 months now and toss it in my bag, and so far that's never happened. It does take a firm squeeze to depress the button. This mug keeps drinks hot while sipping throughout a 2 hour period. ( maybe even longer, but mine's always gone by then.)I bought the raspberry coloured mug and it still looks great. The colour is wearing off right on the bottom edge, but that may be because when it's in use,It rests in a metal cup holder. The instructions say that the mug is not dishwasher safe but the lid is. I suspect this may have something to do with keeping the colour looking good, as the grey stainless version is dishwasher safe. I always rinse the lid well after it comes out of the dishwasher, because the dish washing detergent leaves an aftertaste. I do occasionally hand wash the mug with a bleach solution because the inside does get quite tea stained, and use a plastic spoon to stir the drink to avoid scratching the inside. The only negative to this mug is that the inside is narrow and difficult to wash by hand. If I were to buy again, I'd probably get the dishwasher safe version.***Update: December 28, 2012:Still using this mug daily, and it's still leak free and still keeping drinks hot! The lid has received a few scratches and bumps but this does not seem to have caused any problems. Going to let my young daughter wash the inside of the mug, maybe she can get her little hands in there to clean it a bit better than I can. Still the best travel mug I've tried, and would recommend, in spite of the price increase.

In common with a lot of people I hate to get up for work and as a consequence don't get up early enough to have sufficient caffeiene for me to operate in the world. I have tried various travel beakers and on the whole the drinking experience has been less than adequate. My favourite up to this point was my sagaform cup (see my separate review). Having dropped and broken two sagaform mugs i decided it was time to try something more robust. In comparison to them this is bigger, often i didnt have enough coffee left to fill it in the morning. It is absolutely taste free - again better than the sagaform cup.It is great to drink out of, I didnt like the idea of having to press a button to get fluid, but it is very soon intuitive. It isnt just hype you really can throw it in your bag - i dont think i know of another one you could do that with confidently.I don't think even i could break it. I will comment when/if I do.Note you can dishwash the lid but not the base but the base is not fiddly to hand wash. If the coffee has been sat in the filter base for a while the drinking temperature is fiine, but beware this cup keep things hot, if its too hot to drink when it goes in it probably will be when it comes out. Finally dont take the fiendish wrapping off with a knife (especially if you are "in your cups" - drunk) I did and i scratched off some of the colour.6 months in & I've managed it! It flew out of the side pocket of my rucksack and landed with a a fair amount of force onto a tile floor. It happened to land on the edge of the lid and the seal cracked. I think this is my clumsiness and unfortunate positioning though. I immediately bought another as I rely on it, but noticed soon after that replacement lids can be bought, but never mind.

My title says it all. I am on my second day with the mug. On the first day I made my drink and headed off for my daily commute. Hot drink - god yes, hotter than the sun most of the time. Easy to drink from? Ah, no...seems I had to try to suck my hot drink through a small hole.Got to work and was in a meeting, tried to drink from my shiny mug in a cool fashion but then looked a bit daft as it leaked and dripped all over the place.Having read other 1 * reviews it seems this was a common issue and I was ready to send it back. Then I read one of the 5* reviews and it appears I, like some others, had been trying to drink through the lock switch!Hence why my mug was impossible to drink from and leaked like the QPR defence.I am on day 2 and using it properly! There is a small spout on the opposite side to the lock switch, this is where you drink from, so please don't make the same mistake as me!I went for the plain sliver mug as a) it is £10 cheaper than the coloured ones and b) there is no chance of the colour coming off through washing as others have reported. The mug really is leak proof, you can tip it upside down and it will not leak its molten contents over you.I made a hot drink for it at 7.00am this morning and 4 hours later it is still hot. My wife would say that it is not hot as it doesn't remove skin from your lips but for me it is perfect. That would be my only complaint, I make a drink to take on my commute but I have to wait an hour into my journey before I can drink without suffering 3rd degree burns!Overall, it is a good looking, easy to use and clean mug. It keeps your drinks warm for a good period of time and so far is not leaking (as long as you use it properly)

As a coffee addict who travels over an hour to get to work, I got quite frustrated with many different types of travel mugs I tried. They kept my coffee warm but all had the same problem: They were leaking. So I had a look at what else is on offer and when I read the good reviews for this product, I decided to spend a bit more and ordered it.It arrived safely and after cleaning it to make sure I don't have unwanted smells or an unpleasant taste in my coffee, I wanted to see how good it really is. I wouldn't normally let my coffee sit there for hours but I was curious to find out how long the mug keeps it hot. After 3,5 hours (full mug), it was still quite hot and even after I drank some,it didn't cool down as quick as it does in my other travel mug. The plastic lid doesn't smell or taste weird and that's another plus because I have another travel mug which wasn't cheap and it took a long time to get rid of that plastic taste and smell. The Contigo West Loop has a good size. I have what I would call medium sized hands and I find it very easy to push the button at the back of the lid, which is partially rubberised. So far, I didn't burn myself because the coffee doesn't come shooting out and I won't end up with a lot more in my mouth than I expected. The lid also has a hole (autosealed) to let steam escape when you're drinking from it.I've tried a lot to make this mug leak but I guess unless I use brute force, it's not that easy. I had a full mug sitting upside down for hours, walked around while shaking it, put it in my bag, on the car seat. Nothing. It doesn't leak. I finally found my perfect travel mug! :-)

This is the 3rd Contigo thermal cup in 5 years for my other half. You'll never find anyone that uses their thermal cups as much as my hubby, a total tea pot!As an abnormal loads driver stopping in any old layby isn't a option and he must have his tea. These cups are absolutely superb! The only thing that has let his previous ones down are the sealing mechinism in the lid, they lasted, on average about 2.5 years before they started going a bit 'wonky' but please don't let this put you off. I have had mine in almost daily use for 5 years and it's still going strong. Mine gets one or two cups on a 5 day week the other half has his going for at least 12 hours per day. They keep your drinks hot for at least 3-4 hours (that is HOT not warm)and it is still drinkable up to about 6 hours. Mine regularly went on a roll about in my cab not having a decent drinks holder, thankfully I always knew that by the time I was able to pull up and retrieve it my drink would still be safely tucked up inside not on the floor. This is the new easy clean version - not before time. The lid on the old ones were a nightmare to keep clean. Tea builds up after a while and the only way I could get this off the inside was to soak it overnight with an Oxy type solution and then lots of poking with a bamboo skewer in water. So fingers crossed no more faffing!P.S. The colour coating does eventually rub/wear off, it doesn't bother us as it adds to it's 'used' look but if it does bother you I would just go for the stainless one. Go on - treat yourself.

This is a great flask for my morning commute. I can happily get 450 mls in this flask - more then that and it spills over when you screw the lid on. When you pick up to drink you have to press a button on the back of the lid and keep that depressed whilst you drink. As soon as you take you fingers off that button nothing more comes out. This is useful in the car in case you drop the cup or if you knock the cup over. There is also a lock button on top of the lid which means you can no longer press the 'drink' button. Useful I suppose if you are putting in a bag and the drink button might get pressed by accident.I only need this to stay hot for my hour commute and it certainly does that.I use my Grunwerg flask for golf as its slimmer so fits in my bag better. This flask is slightly fatter - it does sit in the cup holder in my car but not all the way in (although that cup holder isn't far wide! It also fits in the bottle holder in the car door - a better fit.I am very disappointed by the colour - it's grey - definitely not polar white or even slightly white. OK - it's a slightly shimmery grey but I took a photo next to my WHITE Grunwerg flask which clearly shows how not white this is. This is the only reason for dropping one point. Although it doesn't change anything about the flask and how great it is - if I wanted grey I would have ordered grey and I was genuinely disappointed when I opened the Amazon package

This product was recommended to me on the popular parenting website, Mumsnet as one of their 'Swears By' items, so I thought I'd go ahead and purchase one as I adore coffee and can't bear the brown sugary water I make via the instant sachets I buy for work. After receiving it I was at a bit of a loss of how to remove the lid, but my husband sensibly suggested that it was a screw on top (doh!) and after that, it was a doddle. Warming it up with a slosh of boiling water in the morning and filling it with coffee fresh from my machine, I was good to go. On the train sipping was very easy and although I'm certainly not one of those commuters who insists on boarding a packed train with a huge cup of scalding hot coffee, this would be a fantastic compromise. My drink kept warm for about four hours, which was great. It was very secure too and I didn't worry about it spilling all over my work laptop. The lid portion can be placed in the top rack of the dishwasher, but the main body of the unit has to be handwashed. I guess this is to ensure that the coloured coating doesn't get scurfed off by the cleaning motion? My only slight complaint, hence the four star rating, is that the coffee tasted slightly plasticky and therefore akin to supping out of an old Thermos flask, which was a bit of a shame. In conclusion: great price, fab product and very much a 'must have' for us coffee guzzlers out there.

I've been searching high and low for a travel mug that not only is leak-free, keep drink warm but also aesthetically pleasing. This does what it promises. Maybe even too well.It looks nice - beautiful color and fits perfectly into my car's cup holder. It's totally leak free. I had it knocked over a couple of times and zero leak. It's easy to operate even when you're driving. It keeps drink warm - maybe too warm for too long - so be carefully when you take your first sip. Sometimes I prefer to not screw the lid on immediately if possible as to avoid burning tongue. Also do remember to keep the mug far away from your face when you push the "drink" button the first time, there's a lot of pressure inside the cup once you filled it with warm liquid. You need to let it out first before drinking.I have read other reviewers complaining about how complicated the lid mechanism is and drink get stuck in there. As far as I can see it's not that complicated and have yet to experience any issue with bad taste. The only issue I have with cleaning is the fact that the mug itself - if you but the painted version (instead of the stainless steel one) - is not dishwasher safe. I drink tea mostly but on the inside of the mug I already for some stains which are pretty hard to scrub off.All in all, if you're looking for a leak free, easy to operate travel mug that keeps drink warm, give this a try!
