Seventeen missions are available over two campaigns, one for each of the playable sides: the International Corps For Peace (IPC) or GHOST. They generally concern the defending or taking of certain objectives (such as villages or bases) but others involve a strict time limit, for instance, destroying an enemy convoy before it reaches a set destination.Gameplay is pretty standard RTS fare and veterans of the genre will feel right at home! A base must be established, buildings erected, and these allow for the creation of military units. As more buildings are constructed then so the unit technology tree is increased and new troops become available. These range from foot soldiers and commandos to tanks, minelayers and helicopters.Unlike most games of this ilk, CONFLICT ZONE has no resource gathering as such. However, there is a catch and things are not as simple as just creating unit after unit and sending them out to battle! There is a Popularity Score (given as a percentage) which must be constantly maintained for units to be successfully built. A low Popularity Score decreases the troops available and it can only be increased by influencing the Media, a rather unique option in this style of game. For the IPC this means rescuing civilians and refugees from the numerous settlements around the map, while GHOST uses cameramen to film propaganda of their troops winning battles. Hence keeping the Media on side is always advantageous to a successful war strategy!Troops start off as Rookie status but by gaining battle experience will raise up to the sixth (and highest) level of War Hero. As levels are increased then so a unit benefits from improved life points, damage modifier, vision and firing ranges. Keeping units alive is therefore one of the greatest strategies of the game as a handful of battle-hardened veterans, if used wisely, can defeat a force of green troops many times their number! As the campaign progresses then more features become available, such as the employment of Commanders. There are four for each side, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, and they can be delegated tasks to help share the workload of commanding vast armies. One nice feature of the game is that the graphics are superb and highly detailed, especially when the view is zoomed in to individual soldiers. The action rarely slows down, too, and then only briefly when much happening on screen at once. Sound is minimal but adequate, consisting mainly of gunfire, explosions and digitised speech relaying important events.Where CONFLICT ZONE really delivers is in the fantastic AI. Units prove highly flexible on their own initiative and will use terrain features (such as high ground) whenever possible to increase survival. The computer plays a very aggressive game, even on the easiest level, and if one strategy fails will rapidly switch to another for greater success. Flanking attacks and three-pronged assaults are just some of the tricks the computer uses to win the day! There are minor niggles. Skirmish games are included although sadly the maps can only be selected from those available and there is no random map generator for unique battles every time. Also, the admittedly superb 3D environments sometimes makes units difficult to see (and therefore order) and the Popularity Score may cause frustration with some players when much of the technology tree remains unavailable at crucial moments - although in fairness this increases the strategic element of the game.RTS titles are rare on the Playstation 2, making CONFLICT ZONE a fantastic purchase!

If like me you like RTS games well there ain't many to choose from on the ps2.yes you can always fall back on the good old psx ie command and conquer etc.but since the ps2 came out i've been looking for a decent war RTS game and never found one untill now.So what's it like?.well it's not bad.first impressions you'll be thinking hmm this ain't easy and to be fair it's kinda hard to fully understand the layout of the game and the control interface.but give it time and you'll soon get to grips and soon be building your own war machine.the graphics are'nt great but acceptable that's all i can say about them.the actual action is not bad it can be quite intense in some area's so all's good in thatdepartment.like most RTS games there's loads of warfare equipment to build on your base the obvious soldiers who come in different guises marine, bazooka, grenade there the only ones i have currently got but i'm sure there's more.tanks, artillery, helicopter's,planes, machine gun posts, there's loads more but i'm only so far into the game.so don't be put off buying this if you want it.yes some people have reviewed this game and marked it low to average.i'd argue just give it time and get used to the controls and the whole format of the game.Try it it's closet you'll get to a RTS war game..

When i found this game i didn't really know what to make of it.But as soon as i stuck it in my console and started playing it, i found the games graphics and gameplay were remarkably similar to the command and conquer series, which im a huge fan off. So it was a huge relief to finally find a game with the same quality. The game has a sophisticated Al engine, also used by today's defence forces. This gives the most realistic graphics for a game giving you the most intense emotional realism of modern warfare. Need i say more. And the idea of the game is to BUILD TO BUY AND THEN DESTROY.
