Sorry, this is quite a long review. The summary is – a very good tent that can deal with pretty much whatever mother nature can throw at it. A 'reasonable' backpacking tent, but at 3.4kg, it's more of a cycling or motorcycling tent really.I really like my Coleman Tatra 2 tent. It’s (reasonably) lightweight, reasonably small pack size, roomy, warm, easy to pitch, durable and storm proof. I also think that it looks great ... one of the best looking 2-person tents IMHO. Here are the highlights:First of all, the weight. The manufacturer claimed weight is 3.4kg. Mine is actually a little lighter at 3.26, but it's near enough. I realise that 3.2 is quite heavy for backpacking, where every gramme counts, but considering how durable (and roomy) this tent is, I think that it's reasonable. The tent comes with viable (aluminium) pegs that will actually hold the tent to the ground (not the tiny toothpicks that come with some tents) and has fully taped and waterproofed seams. The tent also comes with solid (aluminium) poles that will withstand a lot of abuse.Next, the dimensions. From outside, this is a relatively discrete tent. The colour blends into the countryside nicely and it is small enough that it doesn’t get noticed if you’re wild camping. It's low to the ground and it's pretty easy to conceal in a depression or behind a wall. Despite this, the Tatra 2 is genuinely a roomy tent. I’m 6ft, 200lbs and have plenty of room around both the head and the feet. Better still, there’s enough room alongside me to put lots of stuff - certainly, as much stuff as anybody would carry while backpacking. I tend to use mine when motorcycle camping and I can easily fit all of my stuff in the tent with me and still be comfortable. Also, the headroom is sufficient that I can sleep on a fully inflated Thermarest Venture (which is awesome incidentally) without feeling as if my face is touching the ceiling. And there's more. The porch area, while not fitted with a groundsheet, is surprisingly big - big enough to store a lot of kit. So, if you store your kit in the porch area, this is a GENUINE 2-person tent. It's cosy with two people, but two people can REALLY sleep in it. There are very few two-person tents in which two people can actually fit!Next, warmth. This is a warm tent. I’ve camped in winter and find that, although there is a good circulation of air, there are no significant draughts. The air will move, which is good for reducing condensation, but it still retains warmth. In fact, in the middle of summer, in direct sunlight, on a warm day, it gets pretty hot. But, open the porch doors on either side, and the air flow is excellent. So, this tent works in both hot and cold climates.Next, pitching. It isn't a simple tent to pitch. Like all Geodesic tents, getting the poles to bend into the required holes takes practice (and finger strength). There’s a bit of a knack to it but Coleman have (cleverly) positioned some small 'loops' at each hole, and you can pull on this loop to get a little more leverage. I pitched it first time without looking at any instructions (in good weather) and it took seven minutes. With practice (and the inner already attached) five minutes pitch time is doable. Here's the best part, because it's geodesic, you can pitch the tent and then move it around to find the best place for it. It also means that you can pitch on rough, stony ground and you don't necessarily need a peg in EVERY anchor point.NOTE: The very first time your pitch the tent, it’ll take a while because you have to attach the inner tent to the outer – and that’s a bit fiddly. Do this on a nice calm day in your garden and then afterwards you can take it down with the inner attached and you’ll never have to do it again. When you're out in the field, you'll be very grateful - especially if it's chucking it down.Next, durability and storm resistance. The groundsheet looked crazy-thin, but it's proven to be durable. My tent has had considerable use and I’ve had no problems with it at all. Best of all, it's a REALLY deep bathtub groundsheet, so even if water is flowing around the tent, you should stay dry. All of the seams are completely viable. No stretched stitching. No tears. It really is a strong tent. In terms of storm resistance … excellent. I had this tent for two days of non-stop torrential rain and not a drop came in. Well, not a drop came in that I didn’t bring in myself by getting in and out clumsily. The manufacturer claims a hydrostatic head of 4,000mm, and I think that this is fair. One thing that I really like is how taught the tent is. Even without pegging out the guy lines, this is a really tight and secure tent. Finally, pack size. The manufacturer claims a pack size of 39x16x15cm. This is seems reasonably accurate. When I pack it up, I usually get it to around 39x17 (lxw), but with a bit more effort I'm pretty sure I could shave a cm off that all round. Better yet, it’s EASY to get it back into that pack that comes with it. It’s not a case of taking it out and then never being able to get it back in again without a MSc in Advanced Tent Origami.Of course, the tent isn’t perfect and it does have a few little inconveniences. First, the flysheet door zips AWAY from the main tent. This means zipping it to the bottom while in the tent is a bit of a stretch. Second, there's no overhead pocket or line, so nowhere to hang a light. It's not a massive inconvenience, but it would be nice to have. There are lots of pics of the tent, but I added a couple showing the inside (with two adult sleeping bags side-by-side) and when packed (with a can alongside the tent to give you a visual idea of pack side).I hope that you found this review useful.

I purchased this mid priced tent after 3 cheap tents had only survived one season each before failing with some defect - zips going, leaking, tearing etc. So I decided to spend a bit more in the hope of something proving better quality and durability. I have just retuned from a 5 week camping holiday in France, Italy and Spain and so far this Tatra 3 has proved to be everything I need in a tent. It has seen torrential rain in the Italian Alps, nice sun in Spain and a mixture of weather in France. It is easy to put up alone and the pole design provides a nice taught outer skin which the rain runs off and doesn't pool. It also comes down easily and packs away in its sack without any problems. One thing that did concern me was that with the outer skin being tight, the 2 x entrance door zips are quite stiff to open due to the stretch but they seem to be fine. One other complaint is the lack of a ground sheet for the vestibule area. The sewn in ground sheet for the inner section is fine but I feel that the storage area should be provided with a ground sheet as well - ideally provided with the tent as a standard fixture, but if not, at least as an extra. Fortunately one of my old cheap tents had a ground sheet that fits the area, but if a cheap tent has one, I would expect one to be provided with a more expensive tent. Apart from that its brilliant although I would say the 3 man tent is good for 2 people, it would be a tight squeeze to get 3 adults in.

This tent is fabulous! Extremely stable in high wind. Lots of room for the size/weight of the tent. It's easy to put up and there is a Coleman promotional/instructional video on YouTube if you are inquizative or not familiar with tents. The 4,000 HH ripstop flysheet is very durable and has never leaked (owned the tent for just over a year & been exposed to very bad mountain weather). There is good ventilation, organisation pockets on the inner tent and a totch/lantern hook. The zips are of high quality, but make sure you don't catch them along the storm flaps. It's very handy having two door access and the vestibule is of a good size.On the model I received (the latest version)there is no Groundsheet in the vestibule - keeps weight down. Just buy a cheep groundsheet if this bothers you, they are available on Amazon that fit this tent perfectly. There's enough space inside for a double blow up bed and space to stash gear. Also, the pole construction on this tent means there is less wind noise from the fabric. It is rock solid after all! There is an instruction on the inside of the tent, that you cannot cook inside the tent. One more note, I've never had a problem getting this tent back in its bag either. I know this will be important to some people! The only improvements I could make to this tent are, the possible addition of a small viewing window in the vestibule and higher visibility guy lines.5 Stars, Highly recommended!

Bought this tent for my girlfriend and I to use on out motorcycle trips due to the large vestibule area. It performed very well in the Lake District and Iceland last year, keeping us and our gear dry and warm, although we were lucky with the weather on both trips. On the occasions it did rain there was some condensation on the inside of the outer tent. The tent is not perfect however, I found that the rear end of the tent is very shallow and its also not that taut, so the inner and outer tents do touch a little, this means that the inside can get a little damp and you have to sleep with your head at the door end, otherwise your head is touching the inner tent. Other than this, Its a good tent, spacious, relatively light, good for motorcycle touring, pretty quick to erect, a little expensive.

very nice tent, i managed to put it up single handed in under 10 minutes, the only problem occurred was getting the poles to the "arc" it takes a fair bit of hand/arm strength, which i apparently dont have! but i got there in the end , even if the air got a little blue! The search i used was for a hiking tent but this wouldn't suit everyone, well, not unless you carry a very large pack, it is fairly bulky, even in a compressed form you cant really strap it to the outside of the pack either, i guess if there are 2 of you , you could split the canvas from the poles to lighten it a little, i hike with my dog however so, this will probably be used for regular camping rather than hiking.should point out that the porch area doesn't have any ground cover,in case that's a problem.

Used for a motorbike trip to the Nordkapp. It stood up to some seriously torrential rain without a drop of water getting in, the pole design means it's free standing so a rocky pitch wasn't an issue (apart from comfort) and it stands up well to wind. One of the reasons I bought it was for the short pole length when packed so it would fit in one of my panniers.Downsides - The entrance could be a little higher for those of us unused to camping, there's no groundsheet in the vestibule so whatever's in there is on the grass.I found the inner tent to be a little snug as I'm 6'2" and not exactly small, I could get two people in there but three just isn't happening.Overall I like it (I camp alone anyway),it's proven to be robust and easy to use.

Excellent tent. Just got back from 2 nights in the lakes and it stood up to constant rain with no leaks. The vents were also very effective- no condensation inside. The poles are good quality metal (as opposed to fibreglass),but are a bit difficult to "arc" as mentioned in a previous review. I put it up in the back garden a couple of times to perfect the technique- wouldn't have been fun to do it for the first time in the rain up in the fells. The pegs are the only downside. They are very lightweight and several bent straight away. I will invest in a more robust set for my next trip. The tent is so good I still give it 5 stars despite the peg issue

I needed a tent for solo motorcycle camping and this fits the bill perfectly. It is easy to erect, with the inner tent permanently attached and even more so now that the material has stretched to allow easier insertion of the poles. It has ample room for one, meaning I can get my panniers, etc inside and out of the weather, but I think it would be too small to be a true two-person tent. Ventilation is excellent and I've survived a night of moderate rain with no leaks. It packs down into a small package that is easily lashed on the carrier. Oh, and I think it is quite elegant as well. Very satisfied.

Good tent... very easy to install/uninstall. The materials are good quality and has a good ventilation. The square pegs are brilliant.I am 191 cm tall, and it's a little too close for comfort to fit inside while with another person in the tent. I would recommend the 3 persons version, as it's only 300 g heavier.Haven't tested it yet in heavy rain or wind, but I will have it with me on Col du Midi at the beginning of September.

This tent is fabulous. I use it for motorbike touring and it fits in my top box perfectly. Easy to erect and take down on my own. It is warm and waterproof and fits two people comfortably (I would not recommend 3 people in this tent.) I have a Helinox chair and you can sit on it in the porch area. There is no footprint available for this tent but I made my own and it works great.

We were looking for a water resistant tent. We mostly hike in cold, windy and wet environment (unfortunately!), so we wanted a tent that would stand a night of rain and wind. This is a warm tent, with a wind resistant structure. The porch is very spacious and great if you have wet hiking boots, a dog, or just want extra space to warm up a soup before going to sleep. Recommended.

Used these tents religiously for camping with scouts - they are rugged and hardwearing. When we get stuck in terrible weather, these colemans are always the best place to be! Very stable in windy weather and lasted better than anything else we've tried

Very spacious tent. Strong construction. Great comfort inside, porch is very spacious. For its comfort I don't mind the extra weight when we are out hiking. Easy to set up. It packs quite small for its size. A great tent.

18.4.2017

Great tent. Haven't slept a night in it yet but have put it up and seems very stable. Only issue is the bag, they've tried to do a dry bag style roll and click but it pops open very easily.

This is my first tent! So Nice ! But I use it in summer and go to camping under 34 degree! I expect more ventilation for the tent will be perfect!
