Combining the mystery board game Cluedo with Harry Potter sounds like a brilliant idea, Hogwarts and the Potter-world lend themselves perfectly for unsolved crimes. In this game ‘dark forces’ lead to the disappearance of one of the main characters. The players can take the role of Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Luna or Neville to solve the mystery and to figure out what spell was thrown and what item was used to commit the crime.During the game players will have to gather several facts while moving around the board. Players can travel fast through the Potter world suing the ‘Floo Network’ while avoiding unlit fireplaces. You win the game by travelling to the Burrow and make correct accusation. It takes a little time to understand the 3 to 5 player game dynamics but it is not too demanding and the instruction are clear. Moreover the actual game play was quite exciting including for our 6 year old. In fact, it was quite amazing to see how it brought our family together for a great game session.Although we own and play many board games as a family, I never played the original version of Cluedo. So can’t make an exact comparisons. But a friend of our daughter who played with her explained to me that this is more fun and more sophisticated than the original Cluedo with the flow-network, moving rooms and fireplaces. Though I must say that this is the opinion of another die-hard Potter fan that would always prefer this version. The contents includes lots of game cads and tokens; 6 identity cards, 6 movers, 29 help cards, 32 dark deck cards, 21 mystery cards40 floo powder tokens, 6 suspect tokens, 6 items tokens. But also a game board, an envelope, a notepad and both a green and black die and a label sheet and instructions. The game is somewhat nicely presented. But frankly it’s not more than a common board game. And that is a shame as our daughter is a huge Potterhead who collects movie memorabilia and replica’s. Almost all of these are of good quality and look really authentic. Something similar could have been done with this game, that now is not much more than a standard colour-printed cardboard box, with cardboard game pieces. One of the attractions of board games to me, in particular as a child, were the many curious plastic game pieces, certainly the metal objects in particular that I saw in the Cluedo game. This game should have come in such a luxury, more authentic ‘Hogwarts’ version & I would have paid up for it.Hence only 4 stars, but still a good, entertaining game that I would recommend.

This is a great updating of the traditional Cluedo game and is sure to be a favourite with Harry Potter fans. The board features sites such as the Shrieking Shack, Malfoy Manor, Hogwarts Castle and the Forbidden Forest. You play as one of the main characters, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Luna, Neville or Ginny - one of these characters has disappeared, and you have to discover who is responsible, which magical location they were in and which magical spell or item they used, with choices such as poisoned mead and a cursed necklace. The layout of this board is very different from traditional Cluedo too - there are four turning wheels under the board. You throw two dice, one determines the number of squares you can move, the other features the four symbols on each wheel - if you throw one of these, you turn that wheel one place. This will either close or open a fireplace, and will also open and close up certain rooms. If you throw a help symbol, you can pick up a help card and keep it to combat the threats posed when you roll a dark mark card, or when a turn of the wheel reveals the dark mark. These cards all have consequences such as losing you some floo tokens, but if your help card has the right spell the combat the dark mark, you're ok! We thought it was a bit strange that you don't put the relevant help card back in the pack after using it to combat the dark mark cards, but can instead keep all the cards you've collected throughout - seemed to make things a bit too easy! The dark mark cards apply to different people too - some are marked 'all players' others 'all players outside' and some apply just to players in a certain room, so even if you pick up one of these cards, it might not affect you. There aren't as many squares to move around as on the old style Cluedo board, so to be honest I didn't bother using the floo tokens to travel around, but the kids got a great kick out of doing so! The mechanics of accusing certain people in rooms with instruments remains, and once you've worked out who it is, rather than make your accusation in that room, you have to travel to the Burrow in the centre of the board to make your accusation, adding a wee bit of tension to the game, as once you've guessed right and no other player has a card to show you, others will probably race you to the Burrow!Great fun, lovely illustrations on the board, and a nice updating of a classic game.

Harry Potter Cluedo is a perfect game for all those fans of the famous series by JK Rowling.Being a huge fan myself and already loving Cluedo, I found this version to be much more enjoyable and an even more rewarding play, as the game focusses on the spells and potions from the book itself. You play as the main characters: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Luna Lovegood, etc. And of course all the evil wizards are the bad guys (rather than murder, it can be cursed by a love potion), though not including Voldemort which I found to be slightly disappointing for he is the ultimate bad guy, but in the whole it didnt make much difference when playing - only that of slight dissapiontment for the game not inculding the full collection of main charcters. That being said,he does appear in the 'Dark Deck' when dealing difficulties: loosing floo powder pionts, getting cursed by love potions, being sparked by "expeliarnus" etc.The game is full of magic, whether that's counter acting a spell from the 'Dark Deck', aka the Dark Mark cards influenced by actions from 'he who shall not be named' and the Death Eaters, as well as floo powder helping characters transport from one end of the board to the next (a marvellous substitute for the classic hidden stairways and doors in the original game) and so much more that would make any fan of 'Harry Potter' proud to be playing such an accurate game play of what the actual franchise entails. All in all I absolutely LOVED this game. I feel closer to knowing everything about 'Harry Potter' which is exactly what a true fan loves and desires. Not only is the game such fun and amusing, it is well made and does need thought and concentration and of course lots of scheeming, to find who the 'murderer' of the game was.P.s. if you are a real Cluedo fan, you should check out the custom boards on the Deviant Art website.

We already have regular Cluedo which my 10 year old daughter loves but I find very boring so she has to wait till her friends come round to play it. I got this for my Harry Potter mad 12 year old. He's not big on board games but we never stop trying. :)The main game is the same in that you put a person, object and room card into a secret pouch and move around the board making suggestions and showing each other cards to eliminate suspects. I was a bit disappointed to only have cardboard tokens with pictures of suspects and weapons on them, we like the solid little candlestick and dagger etc in normal Cluedo. The main difference in this HP edition, apart from obviously the characters and weapons is the board. You attach 3 cardboard wheels to the bottom on the board and there are holes in various places. On your turn you throw 2 dices. One with the number of moves to make and the other to determine if you need to turn one of the wheels. As you turn the wheels, some of the rooms lock and unlock, indicated by whether the cut out in the door space is black or red. The fireplaces also change from lit or unlit. There is also a chance of revealing a dark mark which means you have to read out a card from the dark deck. This card may bring musfortune to all characters or only those in certain rooms. Each player also starts with flue tokens - you can use these to pay for travel from one (lit) chimney to another. These extra bits can seem a bit complicated at first but I think ultimately make the game more interesting for the older player. We've played it twice now ( 2nd time at son's request!!) and we are pleased to have it in our game collection. Good quality board and pieces, nice artwork on the cards. Should please most Harry Potter fans. Need 3 people at least to play. No 2 player rules.

My 22 year old daughter has always loved Cluedo as a child and she is a very keen Harry Potter fan - and lets face it, if you want a Harry Potter themed Cluedo game, then this is the only choice. And fortunately this game is well made and well thought out in terms of Harry Potter add-ons to the original Cluedo game (called 'Clue' in America), so 5* just for that (and yes my daughter adores this game, and it aptly arrived just as she got Cursed Child theatre tickets for Christmas). There's all the main Harry Potter film/book characters, except 'he who must not be named', and even the game rules are presented as the Potter's newspaper The Daily Prophet. There's also 'chance'type cards to slow or help your progress, and three die including the Hogwarts house crests one.The game is less violence themed than the original Cluedo, no murders as such just kidnapping, and you play the good Hogwarts characters and try and guess which of the Harry Potter bad guys did the kidnapping and where and with what spell (e.g. the portkey). The game adds in four cardboard wheels to close magic doors to the rooms (although the secret passages remain), and the good characters are made of small plastic slabs. Perhaps I miss the solid rope, candlestick and stuff of the original game that's replaced with cardboard discs/cards, but overall it's a great game for Harry Potter fans, and ideal as a present for older preteen and young adults. For videos of the game play check out the likes Youtubes 'Friday 17 - Cluedo: The Harry Potter Way (UK)'. If I hadn't got this game free to review, I'd definitely have bought it for my daughter for Christmas, as it's the perfect combo and in my daughter's words 'It's Awesome'.

This is based on your typical cluedo game you have to figure who did it, where they did it and how they did it! The changes are the rooms, these are all locations that feature in the Harry Potter stories, the forbidden forest, shrieking shack, gringotts, ministry of magic, hog's head, hogwarts, Weasley wizardly Weazes, 12 Grimmauld Place and Malloy manor, you have a variety of bad guys from the series and different spells or cursed items as the weapons. Now this the second Harry Potter cluedo (I do have the other one), this varies from the first, which is set entirely in Hogwarts, by having floo powder and not house points. You have two dice which have to be thrown together, the black dice has a star,a dark mark and a sign which relates to one of the four dials under the board. If one of these is shown on the dice you have to turn the dial one notch, this can shut doors, open doors put fires out so you can't use floo powder to travel those fires. If you get a dark mark you have to pick a card and suffer the consequences you do get the opportunity to pick up help cards giving you allies, dumbledore, Weasley twins and so on, useful objects or spells to help. When you think you have the solution you have to go to the burrow to make your denouncement. This is a great game as Cluedo but the bits they have added to make it more Harry Potter making it even more fun and add to the game.

We have loved this game of Cluedo with the Harry Potter twist. We did have to read the instructions a few times to 'get' the game especially as it has been a long time since we played the original Cluedo. Players play as one of the characters from Harry Potter and they are searching to find who killed a character, how and where. The 'rooms' are places out of the book such as the shrieking shack and Hogwarts. Players can move around the board and into a room either conventionally by the role of the dice or by means of flu powder which allows you to move from one lit fireplace in one room to another. As in the original game the aim is to eliminate suspects, methods and rooms until you are left with the solution. The new twist in this game is the threat of the dark mark appearing either from the turn of wheels that are on the playing board or on one of the dice. These dark mark cards are ways for you to lose your flu powder or some of your allies and you can defend these spells by showing an ally or spell card back. All in all a great fun family game which my 8 year old who is just into Harry Potter loved.

This is a fun family game based around the combination of two well known brands. Cluedo has a fantastic history and I am sure most people have fond memories of arguing over who got to be Miss Scarlett or Rev'd Green as a child, combine this with the global phenomenon that is Harry Potter and you can't really go wrong. The game itself takes a while to set up so if you are playing with children you may want to get the set up done in advance so you can just play straight out of the box. All the parts are well made and should last a long time and the artwork is nice.Because this is based around Harry Potter there is automatically more interest from the younger generation than for most board games I have encountered. We certainly managed to get pre teens more interested at a quicker rate than previously. It is so nice to be able sit round a table and play a board game without wails of protest. Judging from the fun we have had with this so far I predict it will become a firm family favourite over the years to come. Extremely enjoyable board game mash up!

Cluedo is one of my family’s favourite board games and so we were delighted to test out this Harry Potter version of the game. This is for 3-5 players and is aimed at ages 9+. My youngest child is nine and she found it perfectly easy to follow, so I would say it is fine for that age group, up to adults. Now, this is a slight twist on the game (probably as it is aimed at children) and is a mystery, but not a murder mystery. Someone has gone missing and it is up to Harry, Ron, Hermione, Luna, Ginny or Neville to discover who attacked them, where it happened and what they used.Obviously, this game makes much more sense if you are familiar with the Harry Potter books/films. There are spells, curses, potions, magic and – instead of the usual Cluedo rooms – you visit places from the Harry Potter world; such as the Forbidden Forest or Malfoy Manor. This really is a lot of fun and my own children really enjoyed it. It does retain the mystery element of the original game, just recreated in the world of Harry Potter.

My 6 year old grandson has loved Harry Potter since he was small, and when he came to our house he used to love playing with the Cluedo game pieces (even though he didn't understand the game at that time) so this was a perfect Christmas present for him. He loves board games so we wanted to get him one that he could play with adults and older children. It does say age 8 upwards, but the concept is pretty simple - a murder has been committed and you have to find out who did it, where they did it and what magical item they used. Instead of Miss Scarlet and all those characters, you have Harry Potter and his friends at Hogwarts, and the locations and murder spells and weapons are from the Harry Potter books.I hope he will enjoy it, and it is certainly a great game to play over Christmas with all the family.

I've always loved playing Cluedo with my children but board games seem to have been consigned to the bottom of the cupboard now in favour of iPods iPads and phones. The Harry Potter re-brand have rekindled their interest! It's a nice easy game to play with the family. Like the original Cluedo a murder has been committed and used by a process of elimination you need to find the culprit. This game has different rooms Hogwarts, Gringotts Bank etc.It definitely helps your enjoyment if your players have either read the books or watched the movie.I love the styling of this. It's fun and contemporary and everybody wanted to play it.If you want to drag your children away from their electronic devicesyou can't really go wrong with this great family classic.

I thought this was great - I chose it for a nephew who is a Harry Potter fan (stroke of luck that Christmas is coming up!). It is basically exactly like the classic version of Cluedo, but transposed into the Harry Potter universe. So instead of going round an old mansion, you go round locations like Hogwarts, the Ministry of Magic, Gringotts bank, etc; : instead of the suspects being named "Professor Plum," "Miss Scarlet," etc, they are members of the Death Eaters; the players themselves play Harry and other members of Dumbledore's Army; whilst the weapons are things like cursed necklaces and poisoned mead instead of lead piping and revolver. So essentially this would make an ideal Christmaspresent for someone who is fan of Harry Potter.

We were on to a winner here, as my daughter (13) loves Harry Potter and is also a big Cluedo fan. The game uses a similar premise to the classic Cluedo game, but with a few additional twists. Use Floo powder to travel between rooms, collect 'Help cards' with spells and allies in order to avoid penalties imposed by cards in the 'Dark Deck' and other exciting things. The board keeps changing so watch out! This game works really well and is easy to pick up, especially if you've played Cluedo before. We have made a slight change to the rules as it it quite easy to run out of Floo powder and there is no way of getting more in the official rules.Definitely recommended for any Potter fans!

As a huge fan of both Harry Potter and the classic game of cluedo, I was thrilled when I found out that this existed. It's an excellent edition to my board game collection! It has brought hours of entertainment to my house and has got the whole family enjoying spending time together. What's great about it is that you don't have to know anything about Harry Potter to play it. All you have to worry about is leading the rules of this game. I highly recommend it to families with kids if you want to have more quality time together. This is a brilliant take on the old game that will entice your kids to play it. A great way to spend a Friday night after homework!

A nice twist on an old favourite. It plays just like the traditional version, but the Harry Potter theme gives it a modern feel that appeals to younger players (but not too young if you want them to understand the complex rules). Setting it up the first time required some level of construction and popping out of card counters, but it was well worth the effort after playing the first game when my daughters got used to the rules. The board and turning parts are all sturdy, and the counters are thick, quality card, so they will last well. It's a fun family game, perfect for those competitive tweenagers, especially when they beat the adults!
