I have many editions of Cluedo and they vary in quality, with some of the TV tie-ins being a bit on the cheap and tacky side (I won't say which ones!) This is certainly more well packaged and presented than most others. The Game of Thrones edition has a double-sided board representing The Red Keep and Meereen. The artwork is very good and evocative of the series and the board layout is similar to the recent pre-2016 edition with the connected rooms. The two sides have different styling but are arranged in a similar way. I think the Meereen side looks far better but that's just personal preference and it's good that the two sides are not too similar.Different characters are used for each side though essentially it's the same game whichever side is used.Rather than rooms in a mansion, the locations are of course in the theme of the series, such as a brothel(!) and the Tower of the Hand. Similarly the murder weapons are suitably changed to such things as assassin's dagger and battle axe. Returning from recent editions are the intrigue cards which are drawn when optionally landing on a clue space and also White Walkers! It's only fitting that players should be under threat in this edition and the White Walker cards are the Game of Thrones equivalent of the clock cards from Discover the Secrets, a less popular edition from 2008. Whoever draws the last White Walker card is killed themselves and eliminated from the game, with the card being randomly shuffled back into the deck! This mechanic works much better here than it does in Discover the Secrets and it's very appropriate, almost as if it was designed just for this version. Each character, as in Discover the Secrets, also has a unique power that can be used once per game, which gives them a bit of individuality.Game components are much better than average and that is no surprise as the company Winning Moves is behind this edition. Cards, weapons, board and player pieces are all good quality though it is necessary to assemble the player pieces depending on which side of the board is in use. There are 12 characters and 6 are used on each side. There are 6 player 'pillar' tokens which hold the character image. The choice of characters might seem a bit odd for those with only casual knowledge of Game of Thrones but they've chosen some lesser characters in order to match the locations I think. A friend asked why Ned Stark wasn't one of the characters used!I can't really think of any negative things to say about this edition, other than if fans have a favourite character there is a good chance they are not involved (is having a favourite character in Game of Thrones a good idea?) It is more expensive than standard editions but that is justified. It is good value especially for Thrones fans and is obviously designed by people who love the series.

This is a really good update of Cluedo - and thankfully the developers haven't made too many changes to what is essentially a great classic game. They have made a few changes though and they're worth highlighting:Two games and two boards: one set for the Red Keep and the other Mereen. the two worlds are set up one on each side of the included board, there are six characters for each board. And there are rumour cards specific for each game - you need to be careful with these as its easy to mix them up. And there is another way to get eliminated - the intrigue cards set have 8 White Walker cards - on drawing the 8th White Walker card, you are eliminated from the game (you could choose not to include the White Walker cards if this doesn't appeal to you....)The other changes from regular cluedo - the players are portrait cards (drawings) that are placed on a holder - works very well actually - and you also can choose a character card for each player - this has a special ability, for example one has the ability to move directly to a room once in the game, another has the ability to look at a card another player has just viewed, once in the game. Nice touch actually. The murder weapons are diecast metal pieces - a crossbow, an ax, a vial of poison, etc...Apart from that -its the Cluedo we know and love in terms of play - lots of fun and the Game of Thrones atmosphere actually adds to the atmosphere of the play rather than detracting from it. We had a lot of fun playing the game - its high quality except for the envelope that the clues are secured in which for some reason in this set, was incredibly just a plain paper small envelope which will probably fail after a couple of uses.Recommended but loses a star due to cheap envelope for clues and the ease of being able to mix cards and players from the two game variants - it means having to spend more time sorting out between games and a bit of thought could have made this much easier to do.Incidentally the game rules are labelled as 18+ for players but I couldn't find anything here that would restrict this game to people over the age of 18 - its basically traditional Cluedo at heart so I was a bit puzzled by this rating....

There are lots of different versions of Cluedo available but I have to say, this Game of Thrones version is absolutely fantastic. You don't need to have watched the TV show to enjoy it or understand it, anyone can play and it has more twists and turns than standard cluedo. There are two sides to the board, allowing two different games. I prefer the Meereen side to The Red Keep side as it is a bit more difficult trying to avoid the ? mark places. If you land on a ? or roll a ? you have to pick up a card, now this card could be something good like "move to any room" or "take another turn", however it could also be a White Walker! There are 8 White Walkers in the deck and the player who gets the eighth (and last)White Walker card is kicked out of the game. This adds a lot of suspense and fun to the game, as well as frustration as I was about to win the game but turned over the eighth White Walker and ended up losing!! So annoying, but a lot of fun, and really adds a whole new dimension to the game. Choice of character is important as each character comes with a special card that you can use once the game (e.g. "You can travel to a room without a secret passage". There are different characters for each side (Meereen and The Red Keep). It does sound a bit complicated, and the instructions also look a bit dauting at first but to be honest it is really similar to original cluedo. You move around the board and you start "rumours" as to who committed a murder. It's really easy to pick up and play and we found that after one game we really had the hang of it. As expected, the game is well made with a really nice strong board that will last for countless games, as well as robust weapons and player statues. I highly recommend this to anyone - this is a game that you will be playing for years!! I actually prefer this version to the original cluedo for playing with a big group of people as it is a lot more exciting, particularly with the addition of the white walkers, the more people (up to 6), the better the game is.

This is Cluedo, with two scenarios, the Red Keep on one side of the board, and Meereen. There are different characters for each, and different locations, but the weapons remain the same. The game is essentially cluedo; you move your character from the question mark starting points to a room - and start a rumour about someone committing murder in that room with a weapon. If one of the other players (in turn) has a card disproving that, they must show it to you. Strategy comes in if you start a rumour about something you know isn't true to put others off the scent. However, you cannot simply stay in a room. Once you have moved your character there, you must move out the next turn. However,if moved by someone else starting a rumour - you can then stay put one turn to make a rumour of your own. Unlike Cluedo, each character has a unique ability they can use once in the game.I have played cluedo before - the original version. And it can be fun. This was better. I am not a Game of Thrones fan - simply because I have never seen the programme, so all the characters were new, and we had some amusement just trying to pronounce the names. But it was good fun. There are cards to ensure you can mark off the cards you have / have seen, to enable you to whittle down to the actual murder room, weapon and murderer. If I was going to be picky about anything, the original game came with pencils - this one assumes you have your own pencil or pen to hand. This would be a great Christmas present for a Game of Thrones fan. The two boards gives an extra dimension and longer interest, as does the character special abilities. There is a sense you would want to play as a different character, to try that out. My 13 year old played with me twice in a row, and wanted to play again - despite losing both games. The sense of trying to work it out - second guess what the other players are doing - makes it fun.

Along with Monopoly and Scrabble, Cluedo is one of those timeless classic board games that can appeal to all ages and sexes. Like previous "upgrades" to Monopoly and Scrabble this Game of Thrones version of Cluedo is an attempt to update the original and pull in a new batch of younger players who are fans of the Game of Thrones franchise. Personally I don't think Cluedo needed the tie in. A "timeless classic" tends to be a "timeless classic" for the very reason that it doesn't require anything more added to it or changed. However, having said all that I do appreciate this game almost as if its a totally different game altogether. One that just follows the Cluedo format. That's to say....Yes there are the various characters who could have committed the crime, along with the choice of weapons and locations. Yes the same envelope system is used to hold, and reveal, the final answer and....Yeas of course there are a couple of dice . But the differences are also pretty significant in the way the games feels to play. The board is two sided for a start. In effect two game. Each played on a different set of locations on each side. There are also added features such as rumour cards and intrigue cards, which enable players to start rumours about the characters potentially providing false leads or mis-direction to other players. And the pieces themselves used to represent the characters and weapons look and feel very different.Playing the game both myself and our family soon became totally absorbed in it . And I have to concede that, despite my initial doubts, I enjoy playing it very much........and I'm not a even fan of Game of Thrones. Though for me, as a 58 year old, established classic Cluedo player, it does ultimately lack a little of the charm, simplicity and naivety of the original. Maybe if I was 40 years younger I'd have given it fives stars.

I'd never played classic Cluedo, but certainly enjoy this.A murder has taken place, and its the job of the players to work out which of six characters (some or all of whom are represented by the players) committed the crime, in which location, and with which of the available murder weapons. There are 'rumour' cards representing the characters, weapons and locations - and one of each of these is selected secretly and at random and placed in an envelope to indicate the circumstances of the murder. The game is part luck, part logic and part tactics - simple to play but challenging. This Game of Thrones edition has a double-sided board, with the locations and characters either in the Red Keep at King's Landing,or in the city of Mereen. There are also intrigue cards selected when landing on certain squares or a '?' on one of the dice is thrown - most of which help the player (for example, giving an extra turn), but others risk eliminating the player from the game.Knowledge of Game of Thrones may add, marginally, to the enjoyment of the game but is certainly not necessary to be able to play. The double-sided board and different sets of characters make a nice bit of variety. I note that this is one of a number of themed Cluedo sets, including Harry Potter, Sherlock, Big Bang Theory and Downton Abbey. While the box states the game is for players aged 18+, this just reflects the rating of the series. The only adult content is the presence of a Brothel as one of the locations on one side of the board. Unfortunately I won't be playing it with my 8-year-old due to the explanations that might entail, but there's no reason not to play it with mid-teens.

The basic gameplay of GOT cluedo remain unchanged from the game I played when young, but with a few very cool extra twists...The main selling point is obviously the GOT theme and this is done very well. The board is double sided, allowing the game to take place in either King's Landing or Meereen, with the original's rooms being replaced with locations such as the Kingsguard Chambers or Grandmaster Pycelle's Lab. The suspects and weapons have all been changed (including a faceless man coin as one of the weapons!) and pop-out cardboard pictures of the main characters as the user counters. The new features, since the original Cluedo, are intrigue cards and personality cards. The intrigue cards are drawn when landing on specific squares or when the dice roll a question mark. These cards can be helpful - Move Anywhere, Take an Extra Turn - or harmful: White Walkers, with whoever draws the eighth one being eliminated from the game. The personality cards give you a special skill that can be used once per game, and differs depending on which character you have chosen. These new features aren't essential, and could be ignored without too much effort, but they do add some extra skill to the gameplay so are a positive expansion to the game.Overall, the game is a good present for the Game Of Thrones fan in your life. The Cluedo gameplay is still great fun and the satisfaction when you solve the mystery correctly is still a great feeling!

Despite Cluedo being one of those games that survives the ages, I am not at all familiar with it, having only ever attempted to play it once or twice (and that would have been over twenty years ago). However, I like Game of Thrones and was curious to see how they might tie the two together, one of the franchises being synonymous with one murder at a time and the other with one murder every few minutes! As far as I can remember, the game is very similar to the original Cluedo but a few things have been added. Each character has a special ability which can be used once in each game. Also, there are two different settings (The Red Keep and Meereen) and the boards have different layouts. For anyone as unfamiliar with the game as I was,you have to travel around the board to different rooms. In each room you can start a rumour as to who committed the murder and players must confirm or deny the rumour. You narrow it down using a pad (provided with the game) until someone learns who the murderer, location, and weapon of choice was.The tokens are cardboard pictures mounted on small plastic turrets and there are different characters for each of the locations. The weapons are die cast metal (and are also specific to Game of Thrones as opposed to the original game weapons). All in all, it's a great looking set and an enjoyable game. It would be an ideal present for a fan of both.

I collect Monopoly and Cluedo variants, however, I also play with them as I do not see the point in not doing so and just collecting them for collecting's sake. I have to say that it looks like an enormous amount of thought appears to have gone into this Cluedo variant to enhance game play, make it relevant to GoT fans without it being a rip off, provide a visually interesting board using locations from the series (one on each side of the board) and introduce a different slant to this classic game: i.e.characters having an ability that they can use once during the game and having to vacate rooms on the next turn. The game itself when you get around to playing it: after reading the instructions, choosing your board, and separating your cards works really well in this edition and everything about this edition screams quality - from the board through to the pieces and the box it all comes in. I don't know a lot about GoT but this did enough to not just engage me and the family over the weekend when we played it but to also introduce us to the GoT world. My only other comment is that the description states 8+ for age of player, however, the box states 18+ and it doe have a brothel as one of the locations, which may be hard to explain to an 8 year old.

Top tip - be sure to separate the card for both games before you start! There are different rooms and characters for both games. This GoT Cluedo is made for the fans not for casuals. If you are not an avid GoT watcher I doubt it will mean much but if you are then it is a lot of fun. I love Thrones and each spring I start to get the itch for when the new series starts. This is normal Cluedo with a couple of twists.1. There are two game boards, one each side roughly equating to Kings Landing and Mereen. If you like the wall and Jon Snow you are fresh out of luck!2. Each player has a trump card they can play once per game to give them an extra go or similar3.There are extra cards that can be taken if your character is moved - but beware the white walkers.Other than that it is normal Cluedo which is a great game and sensibly not messed with too much. You can play with 2 players but it is better with 4 or more. The cards speed the game up a little bit but that is a good thing.Non Game of Thrones watchers can of course play and you can have fun watching them attempt the pronunciation of the rooms and characters!Note - the game is rated as an age 18+ but there is nothing inside to make it so. I think this is just because the TV series is an 18

There is quite a lot of detail about how to play game and what you get with it in product description so won't repeat all of that. The game arrives in a quality, cellophane wrapped cardboard box with symbols of the families from the series. There are two sets of cards and two sides to the board so you can choose what side to play which is unnecessary and I thought could be confusing or frustrating as you have to sort out which set you are playing with. Good quality feel and sensible wipe clean surfaces. The murder weapon objects were a little small, but had a substantial feel to them. There was no obvious start place for each character so we started from the Throne Room in the center. The rules didn't make it clear where to start. The added jeopardy or bonus of the intrigue cards makes the play more interesting and fun. As a fan of Cluedo the game was worth playing despite the over characterization and theme of Game of Thrones. It's bit more complicated that regular Cluedo was and you do have to spend some time looking at the rules before you start. So best at least one person does that bit before you plan to set up the gameThe game is fun to play especially for fans of the show but still accessible for those who don't watch the series.

This really IS better than Cluedo - IF you are a 'Game of Thrones' fan. Otherwise I suspect you will be plenty confused! Fortunately, we made it a centre-piece of our 'GOT' night, with the background theme music , and an episode of Season 6 later on. It went down a storm.I am presuming that you are familiar with Cluedo. That part is essentially unchanged, although the Chance cards are in my opinion much more interesting; the benefits are better and the losses more keenly felt. For instance, the 6th time a White walker card is picked, that person is immediately out of the game. The game is also produced to higher standards than my Cluedo. So what do you get?- 6 distinctive GOT weapons- A reversible board (nice touch)so that you get both The Red Keep and Mereen. Somehow, the game feels different on the other side!- Character cards- Location cardsPersonally I got a real kick out of saying it was Jaime Lannister with the x in the dungeons!

It wasn't until I started playing this that I remembered what a great game Cluedo is was and, being a Game of Thrones fan, the GoT theme enhanced the game no end! The board is double-sided, one side for the Red Keep and the other for Meereen, so this effectively gives you an extra game, which is a nice touch. The game itself is wonderfully presented and just oozes Game of Thrones from the moment you open it, with all the game pieces and cards being themed around different characters. What's so great though is that you don't have to be a Game of Thrones fan to play this, it's still just Cluedo underneath, with a great twist,so it makes for fantastic fun and is a highly interactive game for all the family to play.n Meereen or uncover the treacherous pot in the Red Keep? Cluedo - the Game of Thrones edition - brings the classic game back and gives you a bonus game too. There are two different settings in this Cluedo, one on each side, the Red Keep on one side of the board, and Meereen on the other. The weapons for the murder remain the same but the characters and locations are different for each scenario. Although there are 2 different locations the game is the same for either side. There are extra features on top of the normal rules including; intrigue cards, rumours, and unique character abilities that can be used once a game. You do not have to be a Game of Thrones fan to enjoy the strategic element that this Cluedo version brings. The Game of Thrones contentgives this an 18 rating but any sensible teenagers would be able to understand the contents and have fun playing the game.Pencils and pens not included.
