The first two Clock Tower games (on PS1) didn't reach many gamers due to several reasons (the first was one of the very earliest games and its "point and click" gameplay style didn't capture the public imagination. The second one sank pretty quickly too (not even released in Europe, so I never played it). Lets hope the same does not happen to the 3rd, because it's by far the best. Playing as a young schoolgirl Alyssa, you return to your family home to find it deserted and before you know it you are being chased through time and supernatural dimensions by crazed killers! First let me say that the graphics and animations throughout the game are superb. Its also one of the grisliest survival horror games I have played,I certainly didn't expect to see a little girl bludgeoned to death by a sledgehammer, or a sweet old lady drowned in an acid bath, but nothing is left to the imagination here. The big feature of playing the game is that Alyssa cannot attack any of the foes that chase her around the various levels, instead she must merely run away, or utilise various one-off escape manouveres that can only be actioned in specific few and far between locations. It sounds frustrating, but it actually works pretty well, and the panic of solving a puzzle whilst a maniac with an acid spray or giant scissors is breaking down the door to your room always provided plenty of entertainment for me!Gamers who like a fighting challenge are also catered for however, as at the end of each level, Alyssa has to fight each maniac (a different serial killer is after her in each level) to the death. And it's here that the games difficulty suddenly shoots up. Many reviewers have criticised the battle system in this game, but I really enjoyed it. The fight conditions are restrictive and rigid, its true, but it just means you must put a bit of work in to get through it. Stick with it and you'll enjoy conquering each villain...better not tell these gaming wimps about the even tougher challenge in the final battle. The voice acting is very good (Alyssa and her family actually sound genuinely British!), and the locations and mad maniacs are all suitably horrific.Sadly the game seems very short, and the areas that Alyssa explores are all quite small, although there are several stages to keep the player amused including a cemetary, a hospital, and an ornate castle. The spirit of the first game has been kept intact, especially the sudden surprises of the killer leaping out unexpectedly at you, but everything is improved, although sadly there are no multiple endings like in the first game (only one here). I would certainly recommend this game, but it's not really a game for children due to the graphic murders on display. But for the rest of us, its good gruesome fun!

I was not sure what to expect when I started to play Clock Tower 3. I didn't know if it would have demons and monsters (ala Silent Hill) or what. However, from the moment I started playing it, I was hooked. The graphics are smooth, the sound is eerie and the controls are easy to master. You take control of a 14 year old girl called Alyssa and you must try and find out what happened to your mother. The game is divided into various chapters (5 in all) and each chapter is set in a different time and place and it is your 'mission' to find out as much as you can about the sinister environments you explore. They range from sewers, to graveyards, to hospitals...Unlike Silent Hill, however, your only 'weapon'during the game is a limited supply of holy water which you can use to temporarily stun pursuing enemies. Your only real enemies in the game are demented serial killers who have been brought back to life thanks to the help of some evil spirits. They relentlessly pursue you until the end of the chapter, where you get to fight them with special arrows which are able to destroy them. You do not have a health meter in the traditional sense but rather a 'panic meter' which affects the way you move. If your panic level becomes too high, you will begin to stagger uncontrollably and occasionally freeze because of fright which makes you very vulnerable. Your only way to prevent this is to run away quick or use 'lavender water' to alleviate your panic.I would definately stress that this game is not for everyone. Fans of Silent Hill and similar survival horror games may not take a liking to CT3 because of it's lack of weapons and unusual style. I would suggest perhaps renting it first before buying and if you have played Capcom's similar game, Haunting Ground, and didn't like it, you'll probably be disappointed with this.

Im a fan of survival horror. Having played through Silent Hill 1 and 2, a few of the Resident Evil series and Fatal Frame 2, I understand what makes this an enjoyable genre. Clock Tower 3 CAN be enjoyable, but it all depends on how much you can take of it. The running and hiding which has been brought up on the other reviews may be a problem for gamers more into Resi 4 and other action packed horror games but I thought it added to the tension and horror. Watching Alyssa hide behind a curtain from a monster which would smash her head in while a piano looms over is perfect setting to build horror. My problem is that while the game is very disturbing, I couldn't come back to it. Not that I was scared,it was just that I wasn't having fun. It gets to the stage where you don't pick it up from the bookshelf because it is so disturbing and difficult. My copy collects dust! Saying that, people will enjoy it. It is a well created game with some great ideas and a vibe similar (and scarier) than Eternal Darkness, but I cant see myself coming back to Alyssas twisted world again.

I'd never heard of this title before I stumbled upon it in a bargain bin and thought I'd give it a go.As a lover of all things in the horror genre, I personally really enjoyed this game. The graphics were good (not up to RE4 standards by any means) but good all the same. The controls likewise, were better than the original RE series (ie -when you want to go forward you go FORWARD).The actual game-play is also pretty good, although you don't actually fight monsters and demons etc., your main purpose is to "survive" by hiding, solving puzzles and setting spirits free. You do have to fight a few bosses as well though. Somewhat like Eternal Darkness, you have a panic meter, and if your character gets overly spooked she will not freak out and freeze! The story-line, dark atmosphere, eerie music score and general sense of unease really adds up to a very enjoyable game overall. If you enjoyed Eternal Darkness, Silent Hill and the Resident Evil series, I'd really suggest you give this a go.I think you may be pleasantly surprised!

I found this game in the pre-owned section of a shop, and when i read the back, i thought great! I am a huge fan of Resident Evil, but had never herd of clocktower, and i thought the game may be similar. It is, but not overly. When i put it in my console i thought it was going ok and then after about half an hour there was a movie scene that i found really disturbing, namley a 9 year old girl having her head smashed in by a sledge hammer. Then i got the same treatment from the man. Your character is a girl called Alyssa, who cannot hold weapons until a boss fight, and if she takes too much damage she goes into a panic and is extremely difficult to control. The only enemies are the bosses, but they follow you around persistantly and you have to do a lot before you have a boss battle. The game overall is extremely good but i have to say, it is a 15 for a reason. Do not buy it if you are under 15.

This game can be quite tough. You have no weapons in the traditional sense, so fans of all-out shooters won't be happy, but this just adds to what is already an incredibly tense experience. Only brainpower and quick reflexes will save you from a gruesome death here. The atmosphere is extremely well done - if you don't jump out of your skin at least once, you'd better check your pulse for signs of life. This is survival horror at its rawest; some of the images go beyond anything in Resident Evil or Silent Hill in terms of shock value, and you are constantly in fear of your life. Clock Tower 3 makes a refreshing change from the action elements which have pervaded some of Capcom's horror games of late; this is traditional survival horror, and fans of Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Project Zero are sure to enjoy themselves.

I used to own this game and for some strange reason I got rid of it, biggest mistake ever! Now that I have it back it isn't going anywhere. This game is brilliant for those who enjoy a bit of a scare, the skills of Capcom are definitely shown in this game and anyone who is a fan of their other survival horror games should definitely purchase this.

Actually, the game was not for me, it was for a friend, who was turning into her 20's. So, I decided to buy her this videogame, cos' she wanted it. She actually liked it, & she's thrilled with it.

Clock Tower 3 is a truly great game. With Capcom on its side now, it can't getbetter. Sure, there are some flaws (Doesn't every game have flaws?), butdespite that, the game is enjoyable.
