Well over the years I can quite legitimately be accused of being a bit of a nutter for liking Excalibur games, and that's fair enough. One gets to a certain age however where being cool no longer matters and plodding along through a low-key retro game is a viable recreational pursuit so long as it's accompanied by a nice comfy pair of slippers and a mug of cocoa.X-box quality in terms of graphics and game play these little games ain't. Nor do they push the boundaries of edge-of-seat excitement either and at the price they are- particularly this package of six for less than twenty quid- you'd be daft to expect that. What you get though are relatively gentle, 'real-life'simulations that allow you to be the policeman/ambulance driver/road builder etc you always wanted to be without actually getting cold and wet and working all hours of the day.I've played a couple of these before but four are new to me and I like the Traffic Manager one as it appeals deeply to my inner nerd and borderline OCD tendencies. Sure they can be a bit buggy at times but to be honest, I've never found them to as bad as some reviewers find them to be- maybe I've been lucky. Instructions can at times be a bit patchy but hey, that's part of the territory in budget PC gameland. What I've always liked about Excalibur games in a sort of daft way, is their retro-charm and the feeling that their designers are valiantly battling against the odds to produce a viable game on the tightest budget. For me personally, this a neat little collection of games to while away a couple of hours in a gently stimulating and relaxed way instead of sitting in front of the gogglebox. I think they're also ideal for young kids who are itching to get the hang of video games. There's definitely a niche for these sorts of games, and Excalibur fills it admirably. Worth giving them a try.

A strangely involving group of games! They won't win any awards for graphics, physics or gameplay but there's something oddly soothing about doing relatively menial tasks, with the exception of City Builder, a comprehensive Sim City competitor, and Police Simulator which, while not a great stand alone game, plays like an older GTA game but from the opposite side. I have to admit to not really bothering with Traffic Manager bar seeing how much carnage I could cause, but this is a decent value package despite the simplicity of the individual games. That they can run on a relatively low spec PC is also a big bonus.
