Despite the fact that this excellent whisky costs £36.00 for 70cl as at 12th February 2019, I believe it is worth every penny - in fact it is over £10 a bottle cheaper via Amazon than most other retailers (Waitrose, Whisky Exchange, Master of Malt). I was first introduced to this brand in 1986 by the then RSM of 32 Heavy Regiment RA and his oft steely eyes would haze over and I detected an unusual benevolent tone in his voice as he ordered his drink. Some 33 years on, I was offered this bottle of blended whisky, which I find outstanding on the palate; no it does not have the unique taste of some single malts distilled from a small distillery, but what it does possess is the unique flavour of a whisky which is quite widely available.Personally, having drank quite a few glasses of nice whisky over the years, I prefer a "common" blend to an individual whisky, simply as I think to appreciate each one, you need time to get accustomed to the individual flavours. On that basis, I have compared this with their 12 year old whisky, which I have tasted a fair amount of over the last 33 years or so. I found that the extra three years is worth the wait, it is an improvement in terms of smoothness over what was already a nice whisky, with a nice finish and pleasant after glow.At the end of the day, it is a matter of personal preference. I still like Famous Grouse very much, as I do Glenfiddich; my preferred choices in a pub. However, for sitting back in an armchair with my feet in front of a log fire, it takes a lot to beat this lovely drink, in fact, it is so good, that I don't think I will share it with friends.

Chivas Regal is a very traditional brand of Scotch Whisky that puts me in mind of Gentlemen's Clubs with wood-panelled walls, leather armchairs and the smell of cigar smoke – not really a drink for the young and trendy. This Chivas Regal XV is a fairly new addition to the range and, as the name suggests, it is a fifteen year old Scotch whisky - it is a blended whisky that has been selectively finished in Grande Champagne Cognac casks which gives it a rather distinctive flavour. Chivas Regal XV is a smooth and fruity whisky said to evoke marmalade, cinnamon and sultanas with a finish of butterscotch – and there is certainly a taste of Christmas in the glass.Currently around thirty-six pounds from Amazon this whisky is a bit too expensive and subtle to mix with other flavours so is best enjoyed neat or over a little ice. This version of Chivas Regal comes beautifully presented in a gold-coloured box that makes it an ideal gift idea – perfect for a difficult-to-buy-for older male relative (but others may enjoy it too). There is plenty of competition at this price range and this Chivas Regal XV is a rather niche product in a large market – it will have it's fans who are happy to pay the price for a top quality blended whisky but it is not really one for every day drinking – four stars a the current price.

I would definitely buy this again, it’s a yummy warming fruity slightly spiced slightly smokey spirit.Scent: Christmas puddingy , rich with dried fruits and buttery nuts steeped in honeyed syrupy liquor with an underlying fiery warmth and Peaty smoke. The amber liquid isn’t very viscous compared to others we’ve enjoyed which is worth noting for those expecting their whisky to cling luxuriously to the edges of the glass on swirling or sipping. It won’t but it’s a nice light drink even without added water.Straight-Very fruity and rich dark caramel tastes with a super sweet Spun sugar with a slightly orchard fruit finish , warming fiery feel but without BURN!!!It’s sweet but not too sweet the smokiness and richness of the stone fruit profiles bro g it back from the brink of candy.Again I’m not a water woman, I much prefer my whisky straight, I think that the fragrance and fruitiness of the whisky is lost and it’s just a sweetened slightly smokey water as soon as you start even to dribble in extra water. It works well in cocktails though especially if blended with caramel-sugar flavours or orchard fruit juices.Overall this is an enjoyable drink to savour the flavour profile rather than knock back to get tiddly whisky.

Jeff Walmsley has written an excellent review of this whisky's value for money, so I won't argue with him on that, although I wouldn't award the Chivas Regal quite as harshly as he did. I am far from the biggest Scotch fan, generally preferring bourbons and Irish, but I don't dislike things out of habit. I do enjoy Cardhu Scotch, for instance, and have at times, enjoyed varieties of Johnny Walker. Chivas Regal is very popular with the Indian diaspora and I can imagine buying this as a gift for Uncles - Chivas with the added cachet of a few extra years of maturity, XV if you will. Is it really worth the high asking price? Possibly not if you're buying it for yourself, but as a gift,to say "I got what you like, but I went the extra yard" -- I would say it probably is.How about the taste? Well, it tastes very much like Chivas Regal should: rich and smooth, certainly no harshness and although mixable, best saved for neat or on the rocks. Is it much better than the standard 12 year old Chivas? A bit, and once one breaks into "better than average" territory, there are always diminishing returns.

Beautifully packaged in a rectangular box that is therefore easy to gift wrap, this drink is In an attractive and distinctive bottle, this whisky has a caramel aroma that immediately fills your nostrils and gives you a sense of sweetness. When you pour it out you get a fruity raisin smell that brings back nostalgic memories of rum and raisin ice cream. Smooth and velvety, with a sweet taste and caramelly aftertaste. The packaging says that it has been matured for 15 years in ex champagne casks and you can definitely get that sense when drinking. This is gateway whisky and is great over ice but one that I would prefer with a mixer. This is a step up from Jack Daniels, and better than Bells, the experienced whisky drinkers in our family said that they would appreciate a bottle as a gift but would probably rather put the money towards something more to their taste. For those that like whiskey with coke or other mixers, they really liked this. I think this is a great little whisky and deserves its place on your shelf.

I was expecting this to be a smooth drink, but I found it to be a bit scratchy and harsh on the back of the throat. The aroma was warming and sherry like with a dark amber appearance which perhaps lent to the expectation of smoothness. I normally drink single malts, so there can be some palate adaptation required I suppose. After a few more tastings I started to pick out some of the flavours and I didn’t find it as harsh as when I first tried it. With some lemonade or ginger it was easier to consume, but the whisky was lost in it, so if you are looking for a whisky cocktail, you may be better off with a cheaper brand. It is better as a neat or splash of water whisky.I have certainly had some favourable similar aged whisky’s in the same price bracket,so I am not too sure that this drink could coax me away from them. It isn’t a bad whisky and one person’s poison is another person’s nectar, so I would encourage a sample when possible. It is a drinkable whisky and not one I would put someone off buying.

In this is an impressive looking bottle is a premium blended whiskey from a well-established brand. It is supplied packaged in an attractive rectangular gift box making it easier to wrap if to be given as a gift but I decided it was too good for that and to keep this for myself! The bottle has a screw top and the whisky has a lighter caramel colour. It is a little sweet and fruity on the pallet with a warm if slightly harsh aftertaste to reinforce you are drinking a spirit but is very pleasant with a dash of water or over ice.The whisky has been matured over 15 years rather than the usual 10 or 12 and in champagne barrels and this results in an easy drinking spirit that is fine on its own or with a mixer. It is not as challenging as some of the single malts I have had but is likely to have a wider appeal and is an interesting premium alternative to the more usual high street blends and malts.

I'm a big fan of Chivas Regal, they're a go-to whiskey and for me a jumping off point into the more nice, smaller production distilleries. The XV Scotch Whisky is a nice addition to the family. It's a light whiskey and for me, the taste was of butterscotch and caramel with a slightly fruity edge. It's noticeably different from their regular range and a nice addition. I can't offer 5 stars for two reasons. I like to keep my whiskies in their boxes and the box for the XV Scotch Whisky is a flimsy rectangle held together with a removable plastic lid, it feels really cheap. However, the worst part is the screw top lid. Yes, your herd right. I want a cork. I'm not opening a fizzy drink or a bottle of cheap wine.I really can't forgive them for that. Appreciate it's just my opinion. Perhaps you'll be more forgiving.

Perhaps the market is for those who don't like full blooded single malts and I am quite happy to drink this as a blended (seeing as I usually avoid). On the nose, a hint of Christmas cake.Downside is the price - some of my favourite singles are cheaper than this. None of the returns I get from a Speyside single malt where the whole experience, from the nose to the lingering aftertaste delivers. This was just very pleasant and I will try it in a Highball. Surprise was that, having had just two glasses each, both my wife and I had headaches the next morning.Addendum: tried a highball, it's OK. Also equal parts with Campari and Sweet Vermouth with lots of ice, very nice cocktail.

Tried many, many different whiskies in my time from £15-£150 a bottle. Never been a huge fan of Chivas 12 as I find it a little mild, however it is a good whiskey. This Chivas 15 I found very similar. Nice and smooth but slightly more bitter than I prefer, and i don’t mean bitter in the negative sense. If you like the Chivas flavour profile, this 15 is a fine version of it, richer, but not entirely different. Personally I prefer a slightly sweeter whiskey, particularly ones aged in sherry or bourbon casks. It comes in a nice presentation box, so ideal as a gift for a Chivas drinker. I wouldn’t buy it again, but that is no reflection on this whiskey.

Oh dear….! Comments about this whisky make me smile, as reviewing such a tipple as this could ravage families..!At the end of the day you get what you pay for. This is a lovely whisky, and nobody going into an off-licence that bought this delicious product would face any criticism from friends and family coming into the door.Forget all those silly things about nuances in taste, just buy with a distinct assurance that this whisky will win over everyone. A drink to savour and enjoy for that ever special moment. Well recommended and worth every Scottish hard earned money.

Chivas has been around a long time, and they have produced a very fine whiskey in this 15 year Regal product. Best when not contaminated with water or other mixers!! The advantage of blended whiskies is that they are tuned for refined palates - you can have fun savouring the various complex notes they've devised. You don't need to drink a lot in one go, so the bottle lasts rather longer than cheaper products. Very highly recommended.

27.2.2019

This is a mellow and smooth whisky with a taste of caramel and fruit flavours without being over overly sweet. Enjoyable and I would recommend it.Those buying whisky in this price category, which is not exorbitant for a good 15year old, should not be disappointed but no doubt each will have decided what their favourite is. It is what I would consider to be a beverage to be kept as a nice treat occasionally.

5.4.2019

Lovely stuff! For a blended whisky, which isn't my usual drink, I drink single malts, this is quite pleasant, yet lacks a certain signature taste. Though it is nice and it's a very smooth drink with hints of fruit and a gentle aroma. It won't put hairs on your chest though.Scotch is by far the best whisky, don't let anyone try and tell you different, though there are better ones than Regal XV (15 year).

Holding this to the light it has a beautiful, almost orange, colour in the glass. On the nose it is candied orange peel and nutmeg with a hint of toffee. On the palate it is more caramel and toffee with a hint of liquorice. The finish is a complex mixture of all the above. I'm sure that this would appeal to a wide range of whiskey drinkers. Enjoy it with people you like, otherwise keep it for yourself.
