The modeling is excellent, with much more detail than the other sonic screwdrivers and a good match for the one in the show, so it's great for collectors. The best gadget copy yet. Despite the extra detail it looks good on the shelf beside the others, suitably worn and battered after (presumably) long term use. I'm very happy with it!As a toy though it seems to me to have two basic problems. Its rather quiet, about half as loud as the other screwdrivers - great for parents irritated by the sound of their kids playing with Doctors' and Masters' screwdrivers all the time, but not so good for the kids themselves who presumably want the sounds to match each other, as they do in the show. The biggest problem, however, is that rather than having an external button to switch between the blue and red settings (it's main play feature compared to the Doctors' screwdriver, after all) the only way to change it is to take off the panel disguising the neural relay, a small strip of plastic with a handle which is an essential design feature but almost calculated to get lost, snapped off at the holding tab, or dropped and trodden on during rigorous play.If possible, get the kids to give you this panel for safe-keeping first and then let them play! Also l can't help mentioning as a typical nitpicking Whovian that the switch between red/blue settings and the neural relay being in the same place doesn't make any sense in the context of the story either. If they were both under the same panel, River Song would have realised the Doctor was trying to save her at some point in the future the first time she tried changing the setting. It's strongly implied (though not explicitly stated) in the show that the neural relay is a hidden function only The Doctor would have known about. Why not just have an external switch? There's even a false red button about 1cm below the existing one that would have been perfect for the purpose and not a great feat of electrical engineering to wire up either....So overall, ten out of ten as a collector's piece for looks, still six out of ten as a toy because young Whovians will probably love it anyway. (Just look after that panel!).

Happily the item was as pictured and described and was indeed the HQ version of this fantastic collectible piece and not one of the cheaper "collect them all" Sonics through the ages versions that are out there (which serve their purpose but not as a replacement for the original versions)This IS the all singing all dancing version with twin color modes, multiple sound fx and the pop up cover with the neuro-relay module under it with its own sounds and green led unit.I haven't taken it out to test it but its sealed well, has the hologram on the internal packaging and the features are all visible as well as being listed on the box.I own all 12 (ATT)of the "collect them all" £10 versions including the River Song version and it is totally different to this unit in size, colours and quality & not in a good way! The first wave were all terrible copies, luckily wave 2 and 3 have improved drastically)IMO every Who fan/collector should own this Future/River Song version as its the most important sonic & prop in terms of the story line across multiple seasons, 9th Doctor Sonic with Psychic paper, 10th Doctor and Other/War Doctor 50th Anniversary Sonics, 11th Doctor Sonic and new 12th Doctor "Touch Control" Sonic. Also the Temporal custom sonic set and the Charector Options "Collect Them All" versions are pretty smart to keep in their boxes and collect as there are some really cool and quirky features to a couple like the 9th Doctor's one being in sky blue...)Fair price. Well packed and received next day. Very Happy.

River's sonic screwdriver was begging to be made into a toy the moment it appeared last year in Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead, and now it's here. The styling is very nice given that it, like all the other prop replicas, is a plastic toy. It features the usual blue light and sound effect, but the mysterious 'red setting' only alluded to in the episodes is available too and nice to see. Whatever the 'dampers' were, Character don't appear to have tried to guess at those. A really neat feature is an extra series of green lights under a hidden compartment in the screwdriver, the neural relay - it's a pity this didn't trigger any sound. The only other thing that would have been nice to have is a felt tip in the bottom, but it's a small point. My main concerns are for the durability of the toy, most of all with the cover to the neural relay/colour change button, which looks as if it has the potential for snapping, but overall it's really nice to finally be able to get one's hands on this prop!

As a proud Whovian and owner of 3 sonic screwdrivers (Ten's, Eleven's, River's) this is by far my favourite. It has the compact pocketness of the Tenth Doctor's screwdriver and the durability of the Eleventh's - something of a blessed relief since I always thought the doubling up of Ten's as a pen made that version feel too light and flimsy.I was concerned that the small hatch concealing the "red setting" button would break but a year later it's still intact and not at all loose. The noises it makes are also an improvement on the Tenth Doctor's screwdriver but not as loud as on the Eleventh's (mmm quiet-ish Christmas day?), I was only a bit disappointed that the little green LEDs (next to "the red setting button")don't have a static sound effect like in the show. For a collector the detail is good and for a child to play with the screwdriver is plenty durable.Plus it's got a neat little handle/ring so you can swing it (without breaking it!), making you feel just that little bit more Time Lordy!

The version of this which I bought is of very high quality which changing emitter colour (blue and red) with green neural relay.Only slight issues:-some tiny issues with paint work i.e some gold spots on grey handle and a tiny spill of gold on the black end piece-the emitter lens has a tiny pressure crack but again is only truly noticeable when examining the emitter-the seam where the two parts of the main body meet as a gap a bit larger than others I've seen previously, but again nothing super major.Overall: Amazing, Detail is great with no legal guff on the body of the Sonic. Exactly as advertised. The small issues with my one do not bother me as they they are only noticeable on close inspection.

My mom bought this toy for me and i am writing a review for it.Its a great toy with fantastic features and detail as well as look, the price is reasonable because this toy is quite rare but nowhere as rare as in 2011 because it was pretty much impossible to find one in big shopping stores, the only way you could buy this toy was to go on Ebay which mostly has used ones, so very decent price, but could be cheaper. My only complaints are that the button is quite noisy making a loud click, the gold paint rubs off really easily, and you have to open a hatch to use the red/blue setting feature, but fantastic toy giving it a 5 star for me.

Got some really interesting features that make it stand out for me against the more recent models.More importantly my daughter who's a massive Who fan is over the moon with it as its 'the girl' sonic screwdriver so there will be no fighting with her Who mad brother over the sonics (he's got the 11th doctor one). Personally I think River Song's a pretty cool role model for a young girl to have so I'm pleased that she's acting out the scrapes she's getting into exploring the universe.

This Sonic Screwdrives is a really nice representation of the one from almost 10 years ago, from both River Song's debut appearance in "Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead" and then a little cameo in "The Husbands of River Song". It glows blue and red, and has a removable panel, showing the neural relay device that was the final storage of River Song's soul, before Steven Moffat overplayed that plot twist to hell and back.

Dr Who Sonic Screwdriver which makes a red light and a blue light by easily clicking a button. The outer handle lasted about 2 mins so forget that take it off immediately and it was a drag finding where the batteries went but it's a good toy that lights up well and makes a neat noise. My girls love playing with theirs and light up their rooms in the morning. Not an educational toy but fun nonetheless and fairly durable.

After hunting around everywhere for this future sonic screwdriver i was so pleased to find it finally at a good price, i got the other screwdrivers already and always wanted this 1 for my collectors collection, especially as it is so rare aswell, for a collector it is a must have and as for a childs toy it is a toy that any young who fan would have hours of fun with deffentially a massive A+++ from me

As a collector, It's a wonderful piece. A real good copy of the one from the show, full of details. And I love the way I have it in hand, a finger through the ring and another naturally reaching the button. As a toy, my 7 year old self would probably have lost the outer handle in less than a day though. And would have fallen in love with the toy anyway.

This was a very good product, one of the best sonics I've had. Though the product was good, the box was appalling. It was sellotaped shut and dented where it was opening from. The green, red and blue lights are very good, I've had it for about a month now and the batteries are still working. Very good overall.

As the first in my collection it is brilliant, a nice little sonic and the ring for your finger makes it unique in its self. I plan to get the 10th and 12ths sonic screwdrivers next but as for this one as a collection starter I was really impressed would highly recommend it to any Doctor Who fan or collector.

Ordered on the sunday and it arrived on the tuesday with standard delivery. I love this screwdriver more than most. Yes, it's not educational, but I'm an, ahem, child at heart and I love it. The back panel that apparently is lose? I just took it off and kept it in a safe place. Buy this Sonic Screwdriver!!!

This is nearly £50. For a toy. I know it’s become more of a collectible now due to its rarity but I’d rather buy the set of six sonics which is currently £44 ish. I do have to say this toy is very durable as I couldn’t tale it apart when I tried and the decoration and lights are exquisite.
