All in all this is a fantastic front light, suitable mostly I would say if you ride mostly lit road with the occasional unlit road. This product arrives in a well packed box with clear instructions. What drew me to this light over others mostly was the fact that spare parts were easy to source, and although the spare batteries aren't cheap they are available (about £18ish) which is a godsend for those of us who've been out riding and the light's died. I did buy one and also a charger for it which means if your light dies whilst out, you unscrew it (without removing from the light mount), screw the new one in and you're good to go. The light's button goes red when the battery is about to give out so you get some notice. When home, charge the battery and when charged put it back in your pack and it's now ready for when the other one goes. Spare batteries are supplied with a cap that fits on the business end to prevent anything happening when it's in your pack. The battery, btw, lasted me about 2 months before it's first charge (which took only a few hours). I ride 5 miles to work at 5am, and occasional use in the evening when doing overtime. I have it on medium, and on high for about 5 minutes on a completely unlit road. It's bright enough without being stupidly bright and is fine for my needs, I think I'd want a more powerful version if I was riding unlit roads all the way or offroad nightriding. I also cannot say how long it would last on full beam, but I still think it'd be impressive. It has 5 different light settings; low, medium, high plus two flashing/strobe settings. It has a useful but slightly temperamental button setting where when the light is on if you click it twice quickly it goes to the high setting, and reverts back to your original setting when clicked twice again. I say temperamental as when wearing thicker gloves in winter this is not always easy, plus the button is not lit at all which makes finding it in the dark a bit of a problem. A more hi-viz or bigger button would be of better use here, a small niggle I know but a niggle all the same. The low or medium setting is absolutely fine if you just want to be seen, the flash/strobe work on it's brightest setting so might be a bit dazzling for drivers coming from the opposite direction. I've never had anyone flash me however, on it's brightest setting as long as you don't point it upwards and angle it pointing slightly to the left (best position on the right of your bars) then it shouldn't bother anyone.Bar mount is not bad, seems hard to tighten it properly. I think other people have complained about it too, I bought a back up for a fiver just in case but it seems ok.Light has a nice weight to it and a nice finish. I am very pleased with this light, and I think if you are looking for a decent commuter light that gives you the option of a good bright light for the occasional unlit road then I think this is more than suitable.I've had brighter lights in the past, with a bigger battery pack that lasted nowhere near as long as this one, plus they usually need unplugging after each use as they run down if left plugged in usually due to the button being illuminated all the time. This usually results in the wire giving out eventually.I highly recommend this light and all it's spares, not the cheapest but well worth what you pay for it for piece of mind.

This is a great front light - very bright, has a few different settings which can help to conserve battery life. It is easy to mount, although I agree that the mounting does appear a little flimsy but time will tell. What I didn't realise however, was the small, almost impossible to read warning at the bottom of the box which states that this does not conform to UK standards. I had no clue what that meant. I assumed that as long as I had front and back lights I was ok - after reading about the UK's stance on what is or isn't legal, I am no clearer on the subject. I suspect that the greater the Lumen's the more blinding that can be to other road users. As a car driver I too have had very bright lights from a cyclist blind me so I use the flashing setting when in traffic to minimise this. So I am still non the wiser as to what is or isn't legal in the UK, but as a light, in my opinion, this is excellent. I did find the charging lead a little too short and a bit fiddly to fit but once in, it charged with no issues, the red light going out when fully charged. I would recommend this, and as it is a bright light, use with care in heavy traffic areas to avoid blinding other road users.

I am very happy with this light. I first bought some cheap LED rechargeable "no name" lights, but there were not good at all, in term of brightness or quality.I then decided to invest a bit more for a "proper" front light, and settled for the Volt 400.Pros:* Great attachment, easy to install and adjust/secure to the bike. Well secured* Easy to remove light from its cradle* Very bright and good range. In full steady brightness mode, perfectly fine in complete darkness (I have tried!), and bright enough to blind a car* Lots of modes: in town, I like the "hyper constant" "pulsing" mode, which keeps the light on all the time, from low mode to high mode. Much better than the usual flashing/blinking mode (also available),as it keeps some amount of light all the time* Good battery life, will run for hours on "hyper constant" mode* Good build quality, mainly made of metal* Can be charged through a very common micro USB port* Charging indicator/LED: Red when charging* Custom battery can be replaced/changedCons:* A bit heavy for its size?* Fairly long body* Lag when pressing the button, to switch between the various modes

I have just bought this bike light for my Brompton folding bike.It is a superb front light. These are the things I like about it.1. It is easy to clip on and off the bike2. It is waterproof3. It is rechargeable through a USB4. On full beam it is very bright indeed and with all the potholes in our roads is a lifesaver5. It has a lower beam option, which I use if the battery is getting low or I am worried about the battery getting low6. It will strobe and flash, but I do not like this as I find it very off-putting when cycling7. For serious users the battery unscrews and a replacement battery can be popped in.8. I keep a small power bank in my bag, so I can recharge rear lights and front lights if I am worried they are running down9.You can clearly see when it is charging on your computer as the light switch glows red.

Love this light. Even in low mode it's brighter than most (if not all) lights bought from supermarkets or general stores. My commute is around 20-25 minutes either way, yet I've only had to charge it twice this winter so far! (On hyper mode, which alternates between low and an intermittent high flash). The button on the top glows red when recharging is required, at which time if I change it to flashing mode, the recharge warning extinguishes and the light remains on, so I'm never without a light! I recharge at work when this happens, but I suspect that I could still return home on flashing mode without recharging.I love it so much that I intend to buy another!

This Cateye light is brilliant. I like the two levels of brightness for the continuous light. I NEVER use the strobing/flashing option and no one ever should. Battery life is good, easy to charge via a USB C cable and cycling all year round, this deals with the elements excellently. The bracket for this is also really strong, and its not at all fiddly to clip or unclip the light - as with other brands. Cateye have really nailed this element!

Perfect in every way it looks smart , its perfect brightness for every night trips around roads, country roads & trails its excellent & good price I think though if I was doing alot of heavy off road at night the 800 would be good for fast forest trails these volt products prob best on market would definitly buy again I love it & I got it for £44 on amazon prime ??

Incredibly bright on full beam. Be careful to have the light pointed down so as not to dazzle oncoming drivers. Very good battery life. Not impressed by the bracket which attaches the light to its mount. Mine snapped very easily when my bike toppled. Fixed with superglue but not a great design for the money paid.

Great commuting lightBought for my wife as a replacement for her failed light as I have one myself.Good range of beam options (high/low intensity and flashing) positive fixing onto bike, longish charging time but as long as you factor this in, not an issue.Would recommend

Really good light. Been using this several months. It lasts a descent amount of time between charges on hyper constant mode and I'm using it for 40 mins per day. It is easily good enough for day time use. In general the light is borderline too bright but also not OTT.

I bought 2 as replacements for my Volt 300's. They were great and had years of regular usage. The 400's are brighter and if they last as long as the 300's I will be very happy. Great spread of light. I use 2 as they give a view similar to car lights

Really nice light, very bright, lots of lighting options, my wife uses this during her ride to and from work, approximately 5 miles in total each day, she uses the light set on mid beam with a flash, battery lasts all week, would highly recommend.

The light feels well made and the mechanism to hold the light in place is sturdy. The battery life isn’t as good as the previous light I had, even though they’re equally bright and similar in size, yet the Cateye cost twice as much.

My old one just gave up - after 3 years of DAILY use by all family members (switch inside does not work anymore) . I think that is fairly good for the price ( although they are a bit on the pricey side..). So we get the same again!
