I did a lot of research for all similarly price binoculars and decided on Carson for the good reviews and solid life-time warranty, even though this was not a widely known brand to me. I made the right decision – the binoculars are well designed, easy to adjust with very clear vision and no glare. I bought these mainly for use in a tour of the rainforests in Peru (Manu). Our guide asked to see my binoculars and was really impressed. When I told him how much I paid for them and that I got them in 2 days in the states, he was astonished. So much so, he offered to buy them from me. He had a 10 year old pair of a popular brand and said that he’s been examining binoculars others have had on thetours and had yet to be impressed enough to abandon his ‘true and trusted’ binoculars for new ones – until he saw these. He told me that he’s looked through every popular brand some at prices way higher than these. He’d not heard of Carson, but could not believe that you could have such quality for such a price. In Peru, you don’t get much variety and the shipping costs and other factors elevates the prices. While I did not want to do a cash sale with him, we figured out a way for him to have these with bragging rights with his fellow guides. And I left Peru binocular-less, but with a life-long friend I believe :) I’ll purchase these again, especially after such a stellar endorsement. Those who indicate that they could not fit the strap and camera into the case together just don't know how to wrap a strap around the middle of the barrels – then everything fits snugly into the case.

I heard about these on a YouTube review of binos under $200. They gushed about these and with good reason - it's easy to drop hundreds on a pair of binoculars, but the only things that really matter are the optics and the collimation (adjustment of each optical train as it is seen by each eye and how hard the brain has to work to resolve it into a unified image.) The Carson's are perfectly collimated and offer a great view - I tested them by viewing a horizontal line on a neighbor's house and stepped back from the binos just enough to see if left was in line with right, and it is. They show their fine collimation at night on stars. This is not as apparent during the day; for example I compared them to Gorsky Eagleviews (with ED glass, apparently, and $50 more than the Carsons). The Carsons are superior and I sent the Gorskys back. Somehow they nailed it with these binos. Get a pair of Nikon Monarchs or Vortex Diamondbacks if you want, I totally understand the temptation, but they won't outperform these. They even have click-stop diopter controls. Nice solid build, smooth focuser. Edge-to-edge sharpness is good. Bright image. Optical performance is fine. CONS: Cheap strap and case, which is annoying, but that's what you end up sacrificing. If I was a birder or a hunter who was always in the field I'd spend more on the Vortex for the harness pack, but I'm not. Highly recommended.

The review is for Carson 12x50 roof prism binoculars. I think Carson has come up with another winner here. I like the fact that these binoculars are lightweight (easy to hand hold steady). The images they produce are sharp and reasonably bright. The field of view is more than adequate, albeit narrower than what you will get with porro prisms. Eye relief is generous, - a must have for people like me who wear glasses. For those who are interested, these binoculars do show some chromatic aberration (purple fringing around objects on bright backgrounds), but it is not too bad, certainly not any worse than what you get in Nikon 12x50 porros, which in my mind are the reference standard for this price category of binoculars.O, by the way, the included lens covers are nice too, at least as good as those on Bushnell and Leupold optics, and much better than those found in Nikons. The covers stay snug, and are easy to put on and take off.One star off for the cheapo bag that these binoculars come with, and for the stiff hinges and focusing dials. Also, the eye relief caps are either all the way in, or all the way out, with no option for intermediate steps. These minor issues aside, I am highly pleased with Carson 12x50, and would recommend them to anyone looking for high powered and reasonably priced binoculars.

I returned a pair of Steiner binoculars in preference for these. The Steiners provided great performance but simply lacked something for me. In deed, I gave the Steiner AZ830 Binoculars a five star rating as well but wanted a new pair of binoculars that had a real 'wow' factor. I'm happy to say that this Carson model fit the bill for me completely. Without exception, everyone that has tried them out has been blown away. Especially when they learn what I paid. Most importantly, I'm blown away...These have a build quality that at least matches and perhaps even surpasses other units that cost hundreds more. They have a heft and feel that is reminiscent of a professional DSLR camera. The images produced are very bright and clear. Even the included case has a build quality that is very well fitted to this fine optic device. VERY MUCH RECOMMENDED

I bought these 12 x 50 for stargazing. They are very easy to focus. The diopter adjustment is very stiff so it stays set with no need for a lock feature. The eye width is also very stiff and stays set. Very clear bright image to the very edge. They are "THE" best binoculars that I have ever owned. Clearer than my 8 x 42 Nikon Monarch 3 that I leave by a window for bird watching. Much easier to focus than my 10 x 42 Redfield Rebels that I use for hunting and they are only slightly bigger/heavier. They are so easy to focus and so bright and so clear they may become my new every thing binoculars. Although the Monarch 3s and the Redfied Rebels are good (both more expensive),it is hard to use either of them after seeing thru these. Very impressed...

The Carson VP 10x42 is an amazing binocular. The design, build quality, weight & size are perfect. The optics are stellar with nice contrasty images. Before I bought this I was using my brother's Nikon Monarch 5 12x42 binoculars and this Carson performs just as well IMHO and that's darn good as the Nikon Monarch 5 uses ED glass. Would not hesitate to buy a Carson product again. Before I bought it here on Amazon I sent Carson customer service an email asking if the Carson VP 12x50 would be a wise choice to take to the beach to look at the ships and sailboats that are a few miles out to sea. They responded the next day and said the best Carson for my needs would be the VP 10x42 for less shakewhile hand holding.

I had tried Eyeskey 10x42 professional waterproof binoculars but had trouble with their field of view and the focusing knob. So I purchased these Carson VP 8x42, wanting something smaller and lighter for backpacking than my 15 year old large and heavy Oberwerk 8x56 and 15x70 binocs that I had for astronomy. The Carson VP 8x42 provide a nice field of view and excellent clarity. The focus knob works smoothly. I can get focus within 2 meters. I'm keeping them and returning the Eyeskey. The Carsons seem to be better constructed. I'm hoping that the waterproofing of these Carson binocs holds up to various hiking and backpacking conditions.Should they not I'll come back and revise this review.

Wanted to upgrade from some older 8x23 and 10x32 Bushnell binoculars.....unlike my older binoculars these are water and fog proof....I have a nice tripod for them but for me these are light enough to hand hold.....once we have a clear night I'll put them on a tripod to do some viewing of the Pleiades, the moon and Venus.....purchased them without trying first.....very nice binoculars....highly recommended................................they came with a cleaning cloth, nice padded strap......5 Stars for the binoculars but I have to knock one star off for the cheap case.....I see the case and strap for it are pretty much useless. With a better case/strap I would have given them 5 stars.

I was surprised how much I like these for everyday use. They are a good value and comparable to higher end brands, I own a few different binos. I bought them here on Amazon and I use them for astronomy, also day use. Mine arrived missing one of the two tethered objective lense covers; but that's not a deal-breaker. I took them hiking in Colorado last month. Super fun. I was able to assess our progress by comparing our ascent to two younger hikers, on the next mountain across the valley. Very clear, good magnification, well collimated. I would buy again or feel comfortable giving as a gift.

I have owned binoculars before, but when I looked through these today for the first time, I felt I was seeing something entirely new--orders of magnitude better than the budget, compact binoculars I have bought in the past (admittedly, I never paid more than $25 for them). These are amazing. Intuitively adjustable, crystal-clear, and razor-sharp. I am blown away by these.I was prepared to return them if they weren't great. But they are categorically great.

Been looking for a semi compact 8x42 binoculars for some time. Found you can spend a lot of money for a decent pair. Look no further than Carson for a quality pair at a reasonable price. Excellent field of view and good power. Comes complete with decent lens covers, strap, and case. Waterproof and excellent lens coating. I really am happy with these. Keep a pair in your car and another at home.

Bought these after doing some research. They were the lower end, price-wise, of 3 pair of binoculars i researched. They were recommended by an orinthologist, so I decided to buy these as the price was in my economic range. They are a little heavier than i would have liked, but they are really a good pair for an amateur like myself. Overall I'm happy with the purchase.

These binoculars provide a clear view of wildlife in my backyard or while on a nature walk. I agree they are built like a tank, but not the weight. I was looking at other brands and decided on the Carson's VP series. I made my decision from reading the reviews and watching the Carson provided product videos. I can't wait to view more wildlife with them.

Exceeded my expectations. I bought these from Wirecutter.com's recommendation as the budget pick so was happily surprised by the quality of the build, materials and optics. Got them from Amazon Warehouse Deals for $110!I'm only using these recreationally and with my untrained eye, I find the images sharp, crisp and clear.

Look, I am not gonna expect this binoculars to perform as well as a $300 pair. It is very decent for the money. Minimum focus distance is great, the image is bright and sharp. There is purple fringing but this pair is under $140. I am pretty happy with it. It is definitely a 4 star.
