Pros:-Very Warm:It's not a coat that's going to keep you warm enough when it's below zero with tons of snow outside, but it'll definitely keep you warm during the cold fall/spring weather and it also serves as a wonderful undercoat. I find myself getting too hot whenever wearing it, even working outside in ~15 - 20F weather.-Material:I personally like the material. The inside has a sort of patterned black lining with a sort of ""rubber"" feel to it. (I don't like using the word rubber for it, but it's about the closest approximation I can get). Assumably the material is there for extra insulation and waterproofing and I can assure you that I've never once felt a drop of water make it insidethis coat after wearing it for multiple months and in the heavy rain a few times already.-Zipper:This one is important to me, because really, if it falls off the coat becomes a lot less useful. The zipper is made out of a really nice (brass?) metal, which will NOT easily fall apart. I've had coats in the past where zippers falling off was an issue, so this durable zipper is definitely a plus.-Pockets:It has the obvious two outside pockets, as well as an inner left hand side pocket about halfway up the chest. I find it perfect for storing my phone, especially since I know it won't be getting wet in there.-Comfort:It definitely is not a giant pillow strapped to you. There is a textured feel of the material itself that is not soft and cushy, but more textured than anything else. I wouldn't say it felt uncomfortable at all, I personally like the material and find it hard to see why anyone would dislike it.-Weight:It's definitely heavier than some other zip ups I've had and I love it. The weight really makes it feel like it's actually living up to what it's worth, while not being too heavy to make it a burden to wear.-Size:I bought a large and I usually wear large shirts, XL if I want a bit looser and Large seemed to fit me perfectly. Not much else to say about size.-Build Quality:This coat is DEFINITELY built VERY DURABLY. I've tossed it around, got it caught on things, rubbed up against wood/metal etc. and this jacket just holds up very well. It feels very nice and not like a cheap thin or plastic jacket would.Cons:The only real con I could think of is possibly the lack of a "super comfortable" inside material. Like I said before, it doesn't matter to me, but it'd probably be a bit nicer if it did have a softer inside material. That being said, it still is something I can wear all day and have no problems with.Overall: I definitely recommend this to anyone who really needs a warm transitional coat from summer to winter and also a coat that'll work underneath another to keep you even warmer. It's durable, built to last, pretty much everything a good coat is.

Had bought one of these for my husband about 3 years ago and he loves it, still going strong. He said if you want to get me something this Christmas get me another one of these and showed it to me. I thought great bought three years ago no one is going to have them anymore, with panic I checked Amazon and they had it in Navy which is the color he has to wear to work. He is tall and long arms so I went ahead and bought a 2xl in Tall.It has the best rain and snow repellent built into out side layer keeps him warm and dry on the inside even when he left it in freezing truck after being wore in rain all day the day before in rain all day. He came in after starting the truck and look it is frozen.Yep sure was frozen and wet and the inside still toasty, warm, and dry. A truly amazing work zip up hoodie without the bulk. He works in sub zero temps outside all winter and actually gets hot in it. He said to warm his hands up just sticks his hands in pockets for a couple minutes and there warm again. When frost bite could set in at anytime. He can't wear gloves for the job he does, he installs phone wires outside and fiber and has to be able to feel his hands and wires together. So ladies you have a man that works out in the elements this is a must have for your man he will love it and not be bulky as he is working. Men you want a warm thermal hooded jacket for work this is for you. Got a son that don't like like to wear a jacket to school this is for him and you know he will be warm. I'm sure they make them for women as well and I hate to be cold. So I'm going to see if they have them for women as well. Carhartt has made a awesome thermal zip up hoodie that can be wet and frozen and inside stays dry and warm.

I've had this sweatshirt for months now and I have to say it's a great go between when a jacket is too hot and a long sleeve thermal isn't enough. I'm 5'9 190 lbs with an athletic build. Having bought Carhartt stuff before I know it can run a little large. I got the sweatshirt in a medium and am definitely happy with the size. A large would have been much too big. The thermal lining is extremely warm but can also make the sweatshirt feel a little bulky. Often times I only need a T-shirt under this since it's so warm. The rain defender exterior definitely helps repel some water but it's not water proof. You don't want to be standing outside in a storm for a long period of time. This isn't a sweatshirt I would wear as a layer under a jacket. It's too bulky for that. You want to wear this as a jacket when a winter coat would be too much. I like to wear it when I'm inside on a job site but where heat might not be present. It gives me more flexibility and range of movement when working than if I had a jacket on but it still keeps me plenty warm. I've read how others say the thermal lining is scratchy and not soft. If you want soft go buy a pillow. If you want to be extremely warm while just wearing a sweatshirt then buy this.

This thermal is really good but runs a tad large. I'm 6'3, 250lbs. XXL long works most often. This XXL Reg is big but....I just got it a week ago and haven't washed it or even worn it much. That said, it does repel water...at least right out of the box. I'm in rain country in the Pacific Northwest so repellent fabric is key . Insulation on this is great. Keep in mind though this is not a windbreaker. I was in 10 mph sustained winds with 25 mph gusts and wind will go through this fabric like money goes through pockets in D.C. I gave it four stars because I really like it for the warmth, pockets (interior especially..wish it had two), and initial water repellent feature. My review lacks a star because so far it is too much fabric for an XXL Reg (especially around the gut...shoulders are fine). I work with this clothing and Carhartt is terrific but I can't work well with a lot of excess slop or slack draped over me. Also, while I get sucked in to all these manufacturer's claims that they have the Holy Grail on water resistance, I typically find that after about 7 washes you're back to basic cotton/poly fabric in the first place. If after I get to that point and this product holds up as advertised, I'll amend my rating.

Okay going in I read the fit is somewhat large...That being said, they were right. I'm on the thin side, about 5' 5", and ordered the "small" size. It fits a little larger than a normal medium, (I usually order small), but although a little bulky, the cut is not unflattering. You're buying a Hoody for Pete's sake! Not formal wear. I like it! Bulks my frame up a little. Felt like going outside to chop a chord of wood, but of course not much of that going on here in Hawaii...This is obviously meant to be a cold weather, rainy (snowy?) garment. Heavier duty than I expected. Warm but not excessively so. Will be okay for cooler nights here outside on the beach with just a t-shirt... island style. And when I go back to the mainland I will have something warm enough so I won't look silly shivering with what we in Hawaii call an "outdoor jacket". Can't beat the quality of the material. I'd give it five stars, but haven't got a chance to put it real use for our trip to San Francisco. Maybe I can give it another star after that. As to someone's comment about the lining being itchy on their bare skin. I haven't had that experience.

I love this hoodie! This hooded sweatshirt is more like a jacket due to its thickness. It's completely lined including the hood and sleeves and heavy duty zipper and zip breast pocket. It does a good job of not letting water soak in, it will bead up on the surface of the jacket. It's very large, even with Carhartt's super sized sizing which makes it feel more like a jacket than a hoodie. I normally wear a large in other brands and wear medium in Carhartt. I could probably wear a small version of this if I wanted. With a long sleeve tshirt underneath this will keep you plenty warm down to high 20s. If you layer another sweatshirt or thermals you could go lower. I'd say this jacket is too warm for use above 45F.I wore it on a 50F day and was sweating walking around. I also have the Carhartt Heavyweight Hooded Zip Sweatshirt which fits me perfectly in medium. That hoodie is actually nice and thick compared to most hoodies but looks thin compared to this beast!

I have bought this jacket for years. This jacket is, apparently, slightly different than previous ones. This jacket is somehow water-resistant. I don't like changes. The fact of the matter is that my old jacket which has been laundered many times would be saturated after a two-minute downpour. I took this new jacket outside which has not been laundered and stood in a semi-torrential rain for several minutes and, after reentering the house, and shaking the rain off of the jacket, noted that the jacket was not even damp inside. Impressive. How this jacket will fare following years of use and laundering remains to be seen. The other comment I would make is that beside the normal Carhartt label on the jacket pocket,Carhartt has attached dark ink transfer-type logo indicating that the jacket is water repellent on the lower sleeve. While nearly invisible, I don't like to be an advertiser unless I want to wear advertising clothing.

I bought this same zippered Carhartt sweatshirt about 12-15 years ago and was thrilled to be able to buy the same model when the zipper pull broke off of the zipper after years of heavy use and regular washing. if it weren't for the missing pull tab, the rest of the all-metal zipper is still working good. During cold NY winters, I virtually live in this thing. It is warm and comfortable. It has a good length so it doesn't ride-up. Please note that these run large and are sized more like winter coats. So, you MUST buy one-size smaller than your usual size, especially if you plan to wear it as a sweatshirt or under a winter coat. Please keep in mind that it is at least 50% cotton,so if you buy the dark-black color, you can anticipate that It will fade a little-bit over the years. Even so, my old black Carhartt kept most of it's dark black color and only looked 2-4 years-old and not it's real age.

I was a little hesitant to pay $70 for a hoodie, but after an enthusiastic recommendation from a friend, I decided to give it a try. When I first got it, I was not particularly impressed, especially since the inner thermal lining was a bit scratchy. However, now that Fall weather is coming in, I can comfortably say that this is probably the best hoodie I have ever had. I've used it in mid-30's F and it does keep you insulated from the cold without being too hot and sticky on the inside. It is also my go-to for rainy weather, since it leaves me dry without needing an umbrella. The fit is definitely on the roomy side, so do not size up if you want a more tailored jacket. The scratchiness of the liner does get better with washes, but it's nowhere near being soft and velvety like other hoodies; for that, I removed one star. I would recommend wearing with a long-sleeved shirt underneath.

It is pretty warm, but not overly warm, not heavy either. Reasonably rain/snow resistant for short periods of time, or if it's just a light drizzle. It does what it says it does I guess. However, I do have a bone to pick: The material used on the thermal inner coat is trash in my opinion, scratchy, feels like plastic compared to my worn out and retired dickie's zip up hoodie. Basically, it is not comfortable, and doesn't create that warm and protected feeling I get from my dickie's coat, like a second set of skin, for lack of better words. Comfort is a pretty major factor for me, and I don't understand why they would go with that blend of materials. I have put it through the wash a couple times, and it has not improved the feel.I do like the look of it, and it is warm, but I would look elsewhere if the inner fabric material concerns you at all, I may just be picky though.

Carhartt is essential wear for anyone who works outside. It just so happens I received this hoody just before a cool SoCal storm. It seems counterintuitive to wear a cotton garment in the rain, but this hoody performed amazing. I have a similar jacket with the duck exterior and same thermal lining. This actually felt warmer but the rain just beads and sheds off. This garment fits like the traditional Carhartt cut. Slightly oversized so layering is possible. The hood is slightly smaller on this garment compared to my jacket. It worked great paired with my ball cap but may not be ideal for a hard hat. Otherwise, this hoody leaves me wondering why I never picked one up earlier.I would definitely characterize it as warmer than your typical cotton blend hoody. More like a jacket with a hoody appearance. I’m definitely considering purchasing more colors for everyday wear.

I ordered this for my son, a sculptor living in London. He already had one, but studio splashes and drips had made a pretty good mess of it, so I ordered this one for going out in. He loves his first one. Working and living in a virtually unheated studio means he needs the warmth but also the maneuverability that down or some other thermal wouldn't give him. He and I would both recommend the jacket. We were warned by a cousin that it ran large, so we ordered a Small both times and it fits him as he likes it, though he often wears a medium. The only problem is that I ordered it with Amazon Prime with a guarantee of Monday delivery, and it arrived on Tuesday as my son was at the airport catching his flight back to London. So I will have to take it to him when I visit so that I don't have to pay exorbitant international postage and he won't have to pay import duty.

This Carhartt jacket is heavier and warmer than most sweat jackets you will find. It is made very well. The material is thick and the zipper is heavy duty. This a fantastic product. The thermal lining is soft and comfortable. The outer shell is soft but not too soft and is water repellent. It's also got an interior zippered pocket on the left (like a suit jacket) for wallet/phone, the shoulder cut is perfect and creates a great line. Get this hoodie if you are like me and love to throw on a hoodie when running to the store or if you work outside all day (would be great as an extra layer under a jacket). I work for Comcast and spend a lot of time out in the weather..This jacket will keep you warm and it will hold up.Carhartt is and hopefully will be one of those brand names you can trust. You may pay more for their products but I haven't been disappointed yet.

I am 6ft 5in at 210 pounds and the large tall fits great, because it is a carhartt it's made to have extra space inside for layering underneath. Its build for working, quality that lasts and staying warm. Everything about this sweater is very very well built , rugged and is very thick for a sweater, feels more like a jacket than a sweater which is excellent. And yes the inside is scratchy but It doesn't bother me at all. The zipper is brass and build for strength, heavy use and made to last. I paid seventy dollars for the large tall and after inspecting the quality of the sweater it's safe to say it will last for several years at least and longer if taken care of.Iv purchased alot of sweaters but the quality and ruggedness of this sweater for the price easily makes this the best sweater iv ever owned.

These are great! They are comfortable and warm. If you have narrow shoulders, they might be a bit larger than you're used to. My shirt size runs between a large and extra large. I bought a large in this Carhartt jacket and it is very roomy for me. One of my sons has very narrow shoulders. He wears a medium shirt so I bought a medium Carhartt jacket for him but it was too big. I washed it in warm water but it did not shrink. I ended up getting a small Carhartt jacket for him and it fits fine in the shoulders and arms are plenty long. The zippers are a bit stiff but they improve with use. My son works outside. It has been in the lower 20s and 30s with wind chill from 10 to 16 and he says he has stayed warm.We have not tested these in the rain yet so cannot say how water repellent they are.
