This game is very cute and is a very novel approach to puzzle based gameplay.Playing as captain toad your tasked to collect diamonds and stars to progress and while its easy at first, collecting everything may take some extra and out the box thinking. For starters Captain toad, unlike Mario, cannot jump. Forcing you to use your surroundings and knowledge you obtain to get even the most out of reach diamonds. Each level is its own thing and has its own charm and challenges.Music is very Nintendo and very pleasant to accompany you throughout. And yes even boss battles are here. How do you beat them without any ability to jump.....well that wuld be spoiling tge joy f finding the solution.Controls are good for the most part. This is a wii u port so playing in handheld mode is the ideal way of playing. But it looks so good on a bigger screen so I had to try the joy cons out and.....well it works fine. Keeping them separate and using the right joy con as a pointer for interaction works well and if you've used a wiimote and knunchuck set up before then tis is fine. The pointer is always on screen though which is a shame. But doesn't hinder from the experience. This is a lovely, charming little game and its great to see something different and diverse. Here's to hoping captain toad (and todette) can find a new adventure for a sequel. On a side note I have to point out those "extra" Mario odyssey levels are not exactly extra. They replace the super Mario 3d world levels so, while they are new, theirs missing content from the original release.

The Switch has given a second opportunity to criminally overlooked gems that had the misfortune of debuting on the much maligned better not mentioned Wii-U. The utterly charming platform/puzzle game Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is mostly unchanged from the original iteration. It is a series of puzzles starring the effortlessly pleasant and serial Mario Kart cheater Toad and Toadette. You attempt to navigate them through miniature dioramas that are tinier versions of traditional Mario levels. And much like a rubik's cube the levels must be rotated, twisted and turned to reveal their secrets. The aim is simple, waddle Captain Toad towards the glittering gold star. It's the additional objectives, like collecting all the special gems is where Treasure Trackers challenge lies. How you position the camera and where you look is important. Obviously the Switch can't compare to other consoles but the visuals are lovely, bright and colourful and its pure Nintendo to its core. Even with its slow pace, gamers of all ages will enjoy this game and the Switch release now allows a wider audience to acknowledge and appreciate the charm of Captain Toad if they missed it on Wii-U, highly recommended ?

I originally got this game on the Wii u. It’s a great platform game which is cute and fun to play but the main problem is that it’s not very long. There are about 70 stages including the bonus round and most levels can be completed within a couple of minutes. It’s not a particular challenging game neither so might suit younger children better. I’m very disappointed that the reissue for the switch edition contains only 4 different stages based on Odyssey and in fact these have replaced the Super Mario 3D world stages from the Wii u version, so in fact you’re still getting the same number of levels.Nintendo could easily have added 30-40 new stages and ramped up the difficulty level to make this feel like more of a challenge but like with the other wii u reissues for the switch, additional content has been largely lacking. The thing I will say though is that the game is well suited to the switch and the graphics are sharper. Overall, a fun game but brevity is the main problem!

a fine spinoff game from the Mario universe! what a change of pace from hoping rushing stomping, to exploring, hunting for treasures, and puzzle solving. Each level is a puzzle box, the main objective is to collect the star, but there are plenty of "side quests" to complete, including collecting the 3 diamonds, and the secondary level-specific objective (e.g. destroy all enemies, collect x coins, etc). On top of that, there is also toad pixel hunt for each level, and the time challenge (once you have completed all the levels I believe). Admittedly the levels are relatively small and short if you are only after the stars. If you are into 100% the game, the fun will probably last much longer. Also did I mention how charming Captain Toad is? :) the music is great too. I am having much more fun on this game than the regular Mario available on 3DS (cough New Super Mario Bros 2 cough!)Read full review...

This is really a spin off from the mario 3d games but is just enough to pass as it's own game (especially at the selects price).Using the Wii U controller to control the view is a bit gimmicky but does work pretty well and is not as distracting as I thought it would be.The games is effectively a puzzler / platformer but with an interesting twist that you cannot jump making for some interesting puzzles to solve. The beauty of this game is the level design which is fantastic; each and every level is a beautiful as well as providing unique challenges.Totally enjoyed the game and would recommend to anyone.

I've played through the 3 episodes on the 3DS version of Captain Toad and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Finding all the crystals and completing the bonus challenge on each level adds a bit difficulty for more experienced players. The game seems suited to the New 3DS with good touch/mic controls and the c-stick being of good use to rotate the camera. Whilst not as pretty as the HD Switch or Wii U version, this is a really good looking 3DS game. This is a fun platform/puzzle game for your 3DS collection.

All 4 of our kids fell ill over a weekend, and amazingly this game arrived just before hand. The kids are aged between 10 and 4, and every one of them was glued to this game and absolutely loved it.It's brilliant and beautiful to look at. The lack of it being timed gives a fantastic slow puzzle feel to the whole thing. Everyone loved taking turns and shouting for the others to turn the camera. It is a very short game, but completely worth it, especially in the selects range.

I was cynical about this as a full priced game and picked it up as a "selects" game.I'm completely blown away, its full of Nintendo charm and quality with gorgeous music and visuals. The levels are simple enough to be tried up by anyone but have a lot of extra hidden content to challenge the those who can be bothered.I play a lot of games on all platforms but would recommend this to the whole family.

A short game that won't take very long to complete, although it has replay value if you're willing to collect hidden items and beat certain challenges set by game. The game is compatible with the toad amiibo although this only unlocks a small pixelated toad to find on every level. I found this game very enjoyable myself and also a great way to spend time with my 7 year old son. Nintendo you did it again.

Highly recommend this one...so much fun. Captain Toad is SO cute and loveable. Any age will enjoy this game. Lots to discover and play with and you will smile from ear to ear for hoursthe people who are saying it is ''too short''are fooled by the 'fake' first ending...I won't spoil it BUT after the credits roll keep watching as another 3 books open and they take a looooong time to complete! :D

Superb game, bought it not expecting much but it is a boatload of fun, the soundtrack is amazing, the presentation is great and there's a great amount of content in this game. It feels like a really high budget puzzle game. It's also quite challenging in later sections of the game (nothing too crazy) but overall it's a perfect game for anyone that enjoys a good puzzle game, regardless of age.

Great puzzle game purchased for my 16 yr old daughter with her switch lite. It's kept her guessing, trying to find the hidden items and figure out how to complete each level. Usual fun mario style game but with added puzzling and she's still not completed it....and she got given it for xmas! Got for a great price of £15 near xmas so well pleased

I never bought the WiiU, but there are a lot of good games from the WiiU being converted to the Switch. This is one of the good games if you like puzzle solving platform games. I don't play it that much now as I'm deep into Zelda and Mario at the moment, but it's definitely a game that I'll be playing more of over the weekends.

A port of the original Wii U version, with some new levels from Mario Odyssey, perfect game to play on the go, not too challenging, 3D is supported too. 2nd screen is the same as the 3D screen but is used like a touch screen for some things. I totally love it, you can play it on Switch too, but this is a great port!
