This is the fourth Poweshot I have had in the SX series. The first was the SX200 which I thought was great. It died after going round the clock with a jammed zoom. The SX240 that followed my son took off on holiday with him so I bought the SX730 a very nice camera with great zoom though I only had that a while and my other son needed it for college so I bought the SX740 which I really do like. I dont need the EV option one person was unhappy with as I use a DSLR for that. I use it as a compact to carry around and take neat photos where I can zoom in on distant areas or take close up's of plants and insects. It is not bad either taking photos in the dark either and I can't knock the selfie option with the flip up scree which is brillant.

I bought the SX740 after giving my SX730 to my son to use and quickly came to like using it. I find it great for taking with me in my pocket and at times prefer it to my EOS70D. The zoom is fantastic for cetting close ups and you can take close up's as well as portaits I wrore a review on the SX730 on my blog https://spudsdailyphoto.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html but have to say the SX740 comes out better. The only thing I do not like is the transfer of images. I cannot get on with the WiFi and morn the loss of being able to use camera window from the old camera to transfer images, if there is one feature I feel it needs it is a panoramic one, I think stitching a little out of date compared considering a smart phone can do it.

I have had many Canon cameras over the years. EOS 300 initially which was a superb camera which went everywhere with me until the much smaller IXUS cameras and finally the Powershot cameras. firstly bought SX280 HS which was a great camera with about a 20 x zoom and superb photos, then skipped to SX740 HS which again is in another league and 40 x Magnification. I like the flip screen for selfies but one drawback for me..... no viewfinder so on a bright day very difficult to see what pic you are taking so a big disappointment but otherwise overall great photos and finally wifi transfer of pics to Iphone/android mobile that actually works. would be 5* but no viewfinder !

I bought this not for taking photo's but for filming outdoor video's for my YouTube channel. The video footage is excellent and capable of filming in 4K, (I probably won't do much filming in this resolution due to the size of the files, it's still nice to have the option). Although the camera has lot's of features, it's straightforward and simple to use. One feature that has come in very handy though is the WiFi capability, allowing you to transfer files to your phone or Canon image for storage.

Brilliant digital Compact camera, incredible zoom range, but remember the larger zoom the more camera shake happen, the SX740 does do quite a good job at full zoom but you may need to take a few snaps to get one sharp image (a tripod would be recommended for longer zooms) Image quality is very good and low light seems ok, I did quite a bit of research before buying this camera as previous I was a Panasonic user but their newest compact cameras have negative reviews for low light pictures.

I've spent over a month with this camera now and having never owned a dedicated camera I would never go back to using a phone. The photo quality is amazing with vivid colours and sharp detail. It has a brilliant zoom lense that really lets you get in close. Build quality is outstanding and I love the flip up screen that makes it really easy to take photos from ground level. Video capture is also surprisingly good even shooting 4K although the lack of 60fps led me to shoot at 1080p usually!

Camera has a million features you'll never use but basic functions are fine, and the optical zoom is huge and great for wildlife close ups. The wifi transfer of photos to my PC was erratic, as was the app - crashed every time (also refused to uninstall) and no response from the helpline. So I gave up and used a USB cable, which works fine and also transfers all the photos in one file, rather than in daily files by wifi. Worth remembering you need to buy a memory card at the same time.

A great choice for the amateur, there is so much functionality packed into this compact build. The auto feature guarantees the correct settings every time while a more proficient photographer still has full ability to fine-tune as they please. The pivoting screen is huge, bright and so helpful while the powerful zoom ensures finer details are never lost. I highly recommend downloading the full user guide from the website to truly get to grips with everything this powerful camera can do!

This camera replaces my sony wx 350, which was to be fair a poor camera,this canon is a bit bigger and heavier, which is a downside compared with the sony, but its so much better, photos taken so far are clean and bright and not blurry, i love the tilting screnn makes it much more easy to use,it perfect for my hols, on its own i woud say its just about pocket size, but in any case would e too big. The zoom is very good,all in all so far i love this camera.

I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to unbox and start taking photos straight away. This camera is definitely worth it. The ease of transferring photos and videos is second to none. Image stabilisation is impressive, great for action shots. It’s so simple to use for a beginner yet the final resulting images and videos are professional quality. The camera has a good weight to it and even comes with a wrist strap.

Only had it a short while. Have ordered a printed manual from a third party as only very limited info supplied, full info is only available via the website which isn’t much good if you’re out somewhere. A paper manual or DVD would have been nice. Also having to use the main control on rear for virtually everything is a bit of a nuisance. Ideal for light travel etc but for important stuff will still use my DSLR.

The camera gives good results even when handheld. Being an amateur picture taker I want a camera, that takes pictures in auto and gives excellent results. But has the functions to set the camera, when the time/need arises. The PowerShot SX740 HS is giving me excellent results with out the fuss of more complex cameras and quality of photo superior too a mobile phone.

Bought camera 4 weeks ago and after trouble with UBS delivering, which is why only 4 stars, went on holiday for a fortnight. Weather very wet but still managed to get some beautiful photos. Have not had time to try everything yet but I'm sure seeing the quality of photos produced in adverse weather I will be counting this camera as my new best friend, after my dog.

easy to set up for photography and gives a very good picture but....setting up a wireless link to macbook is not easy and requires a high level of technical skill not really worth the bother and timeso the alternative which it is much easier is to purchase a cable or better stillpurchase a usb adaptor to transfer photos to apple photo libraries

A update for me from Sony Hx80. This one is equal to the Sony. But with super easy to set up and use wifi picture transfer. Good size and weight, picture quality and autofocus superb. many features and programs , 40x zoom with digital extensions. Battery life very good.One of the best travel /super zooms you can get,
