I bought one of these from another source as it wasn't in stock at Amazon at the time.I had a Canon mp600r scanner/printer etc. That was reliable, reasonably solid construction; not the least the front paper tray. That printer was about 10yrs olde and had been trouble free - hence my consideration for another Canon. This printer seems to be much less robust in construction; the front paper tray and extendable paper output support especially. The output support is manually extended - if you don't then the print output drops to the floor.. It s"very" flimsy; and if this printer was were munckins might be around I could see it being easily broken.Likewise the front paper cassette is much more flimsy than that of the mp600r.The general feeling is that Canon have cut costs in the build quality overall. By no means as solid etc. as my aforementioned mp600r. Similarly other manufacturers have gone the same route - reduced build quality overall. You have to manually open the front control panel in order to allow the printer to actually print. If you don't it won't start the print process - even though documents are now in the print buffer. Which makes the wake on print command option (a default) pointless if you haven't left that panel open from previous use.The function/control touch screen is adequate and a reasonable size; although I prefer the previous system of buttons as in earlier Canon Pimxas...Colour print - even on standard paper is excellent.General print quality also good to excellent.Whenever you reload paper in either paper source you have to register afresh what type, size etc. of paper you have loaded... Why? That was never an issue in previous printers - as you could select paper type in the print dialogue box when you select the printer from whichever app you're using.Scanner is good too; certainly no worse - probably better - than my mp600r.The whole printer is noisey - to put it mildly - when in use; unless you select the quiet mode when it is more or less silent (apart from the necessary but diminished clicking and clunking of the mechanics...).I bought it mainly as a scanner and occasional colour printer. I use an elderly (1995) Epson mono-laser for general work; no need of colour much of the time. Thus ink costs may not be too horrendous for me. Sadly just about all inkjet printers these days seemed designed to generate money for the makers from the ink costs...Prior to buying this printer I had a long chat with Canon support; re' a standard error code on my mp600r - the dreaded 5010. That code has 22 possible causes... Long story short, after stripping the mp600r down aways (I downloaded the service manual) I was unable to resolve the error and decided to" byte the bullet" and replace the mp600r. Canon support chappie was more than helpful re' my efforts to resolve the above problem; and also went into much detail re' how single/dual ink tank systems work; as well as advising on which models to consider - depending on level of use as a printer...The lack of an ethernet port on many printers today - and even usb on some... - reduced my choices significantly. This printer has the lot... I prefer to use ethernet to network a printer whenever possible... Wifi is useful I agree... but ethernet is faster, and more reliable. The airprint option is useful too of course; my elderly Epson laser doesn't have that unfortunately.I wouldn't put this printer in heavy use location; and certainly not in any situation where the front paper output support system was likely to be vulnerable or hit... In a safe soho environment - again away from munckins and maybe doggies/moggies too - it would be OK.I did look at some of the hp ranges too; and depending on your ink use their assorted ink replacement schemes my be an attraction/advantage; providing the model printer you choose lasts more than say 18months - which appears to be an issue with some of them (see Amazon hp reviews here about that).Had it been in stock when I needed it - in a hurry - I would have bought from Amazon; but it wasn't and time/availability was a factor then...

Purchased yesterday. Printed one sheet of paper and they have asked for a review. Bought this model for the ethernet connection as it is in a different room from the computers and many reviews of other printers complain about the flaky wi-fi. Fairly easy to set up over ethernet, though the driver software seemed to be downloaded more than once at ~350MB a time. Both input and output paper trays seems flimsy though time will tell if they are robust but just flexible. The printer seems to be fairly expensive for what it is but I'm hoping this will be offset by using the larger ink refills to save on the printing costs. One feature I like is the auto off with wake up on printing.Hopefully will save some electric. One day of ownership and it seems ok.

This was to replace a HP AIO officejet and so far is much easier to use, much faster at printing and does not waste tons of ink by cleaning itself unlike the HP. Seems cheap to run too and gives good print quality. For printing photos there are noticeable streaks in certain darker areas of the print and it's not quite as good as my 10 year old HP Officejet but it's okay.Only bad point is the front panel has to be lifted up to get the paper output tray out which is a bit of a pain but other than that I'm pleased with it.

Great printer, easy to use and very good quality printing and photos. It connects easily to WIFI and WIFI connected devices. It is more compact than its predecessors but needs the front panel to be left open to switch on automatically which increases its physical space. Common to most Canon printers, ink is expensive, even if using compatible inks, good feature is separate ink tanks (5). Ideal for home use plus Fax feature makes use in a small office a possibility, but not for high volume use.

As usual , a Canon printer that exceeds expectations.Superb color photos and scanned prints that can't be told from the original. This is the forth Pixma printer that I have bought and the first one, purchased in 2005 is still being used constantly. One word of warning though, don't ever use compatible cartridges. They result in the printer constantly cleaning the print heads and even damaging them. Printer works great on my network with three people using it. Large volume ink tanks available

We bought this to print our invites for our wedding. We're using card which isn't as smooth as regular paper and for the job we bought it, it works very well. It copies, scans and prints duplex. Apparently it has a Fax function as well, though I doubt I'll ever use it for that. Design wise, it's minimal in size which is what we wanted and it has a decent-sized touchscreen for a printer. My only bugbear with the printer is the scanning feature. Wireless to a Mac just doesn't work.

Easy to set to the Wi-fi. Can take it’s time to print. However saying that I’m trying to get used to a new printer after using my last canon printer for over 10yrs. I have not had lots of time to get used to the printer. I like the automatic document feed for scanning and printing and saving is very easily to the cloud or drop box or to email. It doesn’t seem complicated, just a big leap forward from my last one. Main thing is I’m happy with my purchase and would recommend.

Prints are good both colour and BW. Had one occasion where wifi said connected to printer but no matter what i did, I could not print. In the end I removed printer then re-added printer and all was fine.Dont like the fact that you have to manually open front cover to print, which is pain as Printer is located centrally (away from computer) so everyone can print to it without disturbing PC user, trouble is whoever is printing has to ensure printer is open before sending print.!!.

For the money, good value. Still not used all the features. Print quality seems OK, only printed spreadsheets and word documents so far, but could be a bit quicker. Had an issue with a driver which Canon`s tech support ironed out. If I had any gripes, it would be that the ink carts (581s) are not readily available in my local supermarkets so I have to make sure I don't run out and need to replace in a hurry, and that the front flap has to be open in order to print.

I bought this to replace a previous Canon MP600 printer and specifically chose this one as it has an enclosed paper tray which many other Canon printers don't seem to have. It was a bit tricky to set up but works fine and prints double sided which my previous printer didn't. Good print quality and easy to use touchscreen feature. Build quality a little "plasticky" compared to my old printer but a minor point really. Overall, I'm pleased with it so far.

This printer does everything I want but is very poor on documentation. It has nothing of note about it's wireless connectivity and is very fussy about being switched on first when used. Printer first then run the program you want to print from otherwise it says the printer is offline. It's fine to have a disc with instructions and online availability as well. But nothing beats a set up guide taking you step by step through.

This is the first wireless printer I’ve bought replacing a tired 20year old reliable old friend so I was a bit worried about connecting it up to a Windows 10 P.C. and an apple phone and a family iPad. I needn’t have worried , the printer took charge and pushed me through the whole process hardly pausing for breath . I’m really impressed with it’s performance and access to online instructions and explanations.

There are a couple of things which I don't like about this printer. The print cartridges aren't that easy to source. Also - it was difficult to set up the scanning option - I had to ring Canon for advice. The paper tray where prints come out is quite flimsy and could get caught/broken easily. Not the best design and would suggest to other customers that they look around for a better modell.

I"m still finding my way around this printer, but so far so good. The print quality is crisp and clear and so is the photo printing. There is still some functionality I haven't used yet. Setting up to air print is very easy with clear online instructions. My two bugbears are that My Image Garden (the scanning/printing app) is confusing and the front panel of the printer itself is a bit clunky.

26.2.2019

Relatively compact unit which installed easily .Instructions are pretty good but tend to hop from paper manual to on device display guided setup, so don't lose the plot! Like most low cost printers, this one is slightly flimsy so handle with care. The machine is much faster to get to printer ready state from OFF than my other manufacturer printer.
