Canon Pixma IP7250Whilst there are many reviews of this printer, this is an update as of January 2015.Like many others, I bought this as a replacement photo printer to the trusty old IP4500, which, although it still prints silently and rapidly, has developed a fault that only 50% of the yellow ink jet works (NOT a blockage) which causes pictures to have a cyan / blue tint. Too expensive to get a repair but kept for non photo applications. This IP7250 is a neat unit where the paper trays have been incorporated into the body of the unit - an upper try for 4 x 6 and 7 x 5 papers/photo paper and a lower one for A4 ( paper / photo paper)which ,if you take it out and turn it over will act as a print tray for CD/DVD's.One very attractive feature is that the inks are seperate ( main black , minor black , yellow ,magenta and cyan) so that if one runs out you do not have to change all at once and even the compatible inks are available separatelyUnlike the IP4500, this unit can be connected wirelessly to several computers/laptops (as well as a conventional USB direct connection cable). The instructions for set up are clear but sadly my first unit from Amazon was faulty and it failed at the setup of the ink trays - I suspect that a mechanical shock had caused a misalignment. If you get the power light ( white) warning light ( orange) flashing alternately at set up , and it won't go away with repeating set up several times (as instructions) then return for a new one. Amazon replaced it immediately - no quibble (free delivery/collection) - and this latest unit set up perfectly. Only comment is that the ink charge cycle is so noisy compared to the IP4500.Initial in use commentsWe set up the wireless (BTHUB 3) link as per instructions and put the software (minus the image garden) on my laptop (Samsung RF711) and the wife's Acer. There have been occasional loss of Wi-Fi linkage but I get this occasionally with the BT Hub3 as their hardware / software tends to be total junk lately. It is easy to re link - repeat as per set up instructions. Both laptops printed reasonably well to 6 x 4 prints. You can load several 6 x 4 sheets in the cartridge at once and there is no apparent problem with the feed (contrast the A4 photo paper)Although the colours were good some of the prints from my Samsung (printed from Microsoft picture manager) were somewhat dark and had to be adjusted. The ones from Windows picture manager on the Acer were perfect.I also print special prints to A4 on 230gsm Canon or Epson paper. Whereas on the IP4500 ( being a top loader - a partial gravity/pull feed) you could load up several A4 photo paper sheets , the IP7250 - at least to date - is only allowing a single sheet at a time without the dreaded " paper jam " signals - which via wireless , neatly appear on the computer. Whether this will change with time remains to be seen how much an irritation it is depends as to if and how many A4 prints you make at any one time - it rather defeats the wireless advantage.Canon inks cost more than the printer (£60 at time of writing) so I use Inkredible inks (4 sets for £24 on offer)We haven't yet explored the full capabilities of traditional text printing like duplex. Thus unit is mainly to be used for photo printsSo, a neat printer, somewhat noisy on ink recharge, not sure as to how robust it will be long term (you get what you pay for).Suggestion - to avoid print head failures - DO a nozzle check / print in colour at least once a month. Do shut down (turn off) at the printer first to cap the ink heads, not just at the wall. Do change inks well before they totally run out and if you are leaving the printer unused for a long time replace any ink that is showing low. The compatible inks are cheap enough! If you want a good basic wireless printer, capable of both A4 text sheets and photo prints (A4 / 6 x 4, 7 x 5) you could do a lot worse than this.Provisionally rated at 4 star , if the A4 tray issue is not a limitation, you may rate it 5 starUPDATE 9th March - I have been printing many A4 pictures from holidays and after some 100 prints wish to report that a) the issue of not feeding the A4 inkjet paper more than one sheet at a time has self corrected b) wireless dropout has disappeared c) It is still somewhat noisy - even in "quiet" mode d) Using a combination of Canon paper with Inkredible comatible inks for Canon gives excellent results colourwise Definitiely rating as 5 star!UPDATE 1st October 2015 Whilst I will hold the rating as 5 star for performance ( even with non Canon inks) be aware that unless you use Canon original ink, the software "My Image Garden" WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO WORK - sneaky CanonUPDATE 10th October 2015 - the printer has FAILED after only 9 months - the cyan delivery system is kaput and it is not a simple ink residue blockage .Still under warranty. Will submit for repair under warranty but cheaper to buy a new printer for speed!! Caveat Emptor!UPDATE 26th October 2015 - liked it so much I ordered a new one whilst getting Canon to fix the old one. Sadly the so called new product from Amazon - finally sent after 2 weeks - turned out to be a returned product missing the instructions and key items so could not be usedHappy update sometime 2016I have found that temporarily installing a genuine Canon Cyan ink gets the old system working again and it now works again perfectly with the Inkredible inks .Have churned out many excellent A4 prints of our world travels

I bought this printer because the print head on my IP4700 failed and replacement of the head would be more expensive than replacing the printer. I don't need a multi-function device and main use is for photo printing, with occasional documents and envelopes.I'd read a few reviews of the IP7250, which concentrated on printing costs and made little real mention of print quality. It didn't help that reviews on Amazon started well, but more recently were low, dragging the average score down to 2 stars. As these seem to be related to specific issues with individual reviewers (for example, faulty units and high ink usage) I chose to go with Canon's past reputation and order the IP7250.Two days after ordering the printer arrived, despite being the 3 - 5 day free service so I started off impressed!Unpacking the printer was easy enough, with all of the tapes which need removing being easily accessible and the ink cartridges were easy to install. On first power up the printer initialised the print head, then a supplied thick paper sheet has to be placed into the printer to allow the head to be aligned automatically. All this took around ten minutes. The driver and associated utilities took an additional 5 minutes to install via USB connection on Windows 8. I later tried the wireless setup and this also was simple, with the wireless link being reliable so far.The paper supply mechanism has changed since I bought my IP4700; there is no longer a lift up lid to feed in paper which doesn't fit the main tray; instead there are two fully enclosed trays provided - one can take 125 A4 (or smaller) sheets of standard paper and the other tray 20 6x4 or 7x5 sheets of photo paper. Users of older Canon printers need to be aware that the printing side of the paper is now inserted facing down; this is clearly noted in the manual. So, how does it print ? Plain text prints very well indeed as there is a dedicated black ink tank for text printing. Speed seemed no faster than my old IP4700, but is more than satisfactory for the occasional letter or moderately sized document. There is an inbuilt duplex unit, allowing double sided printing and there is a driver setting to allow A5 booklets to be printed using A4 paper (though there is no in built stapler - but then at this cost, I don't expect one). So far, so good.Photo printing is up to the standard of the IP4700 (which was, 2 years ago, the PC Pro A listed photo printer), with bright, contrasty prints showing good colour rendition, a high level of detail, without banding, being produced. Again, speed was similar to the IP4700 so should be fast enough for most uses. The noise produced by the printer is higher than I expected when it's cleaning it's heads (which it, like all other recent ink jet printers I've used, seems to do randomly when a print job is submitted), though it's better when actually printing. There is a quiet mode which can be set from the driver (as well as on/off you can specify the time period when the quiet mode is to be used) and this does reduce the noise, and speed, of printing, with the printer sounding like it's moving air through it, rather than paper.I haven't yet had the printer long enough to comment on the number of pages/prints per refill, but I note that the tanks are no more expensive than those for the IP4700, or alternative Epson models. My overall verdict at this point is that I have bought a very good photo printer, which is also capable of good text printing and has good paper handling, all for a price which is low for the high output quality. I'm very pleased with the IP7250.

Of course, many of us have different experiences with different products but usually when people are purchasing printers it tends to be either Epson or Canon which they go for which I've had a lot of experience with both yet the Canon IP series have ALWAYS been really good, reliable and have completely wiped Epson out of the water for me now, which I'll explain why it's better to get a Canon printer as opposed to an Epson after years of experience with both.As mentioned above, over the years I've had both makes and I have had some Epson printers in the past too which have been great however in the long run I've had a lot of trouble with the Epson printers as opposed to Canon and with my last experience with Epson too,it completely nailed it for me as to why I'll never go for Epson again, which again I will explain. Before I got Canon IP7250 printer here I initially bought the Epson Expression Premium XP-6000 first yet had a LOT of trouble with this, my previous printer was a Canon Pixma MG7550 but I went for the Epson one as my replacement yet had a LOT of trouble with it, the worse thing was when I needed help Epson didn't care and even said to me to leave a bad review (which I don't like to do but of course people want to know if buying a printer) so I did leave my review on Amazon for the Epson Expression Premium XP-6000 printer, not only that, Epson ended up costing me a lot of money in the process too wasting ink (which is expensive), photo paper, discs etc... yet they wanted me to run these things using up all the ink but weren't prepared to compensate the loss of ink, paper, discs etc.. in any way, they just kept asking me to do more and more stuff knowing that the issue was just wasting all this, first off the Epson disc printing was terrible an there was NO high quality option to print on the discs meaning the prints were slightly blurry and there was nothing you could do about it, they tried to blame it on the software issue yet even with their own software the high quality option was either greyed out or wasn't there (basically, it's not good at disc printing), printing a black and white photo was putting in like colour tints for some reason and same with a colour photo it was creating that washing up liquid effect slightly in the images (read my review on the Epson Expression Premium XP-6000 to see how bad it was), anyway long story short I bought this printer as a replacement in October and it worked perfectly fine, printing high quality on CD's as it should be, prints were better quality with no colour tints in black and white pictures or any washing up liquid type tints in colour images (bare in mind it was the SAME images I printed with both printers), the Canon printer is fantastic with NO issues, easy to set up and just brilliant.Seriously, if you're deciding between which printer to get go for a Canon, of course choose the Canon model that suits you and does what it needs to do for you however when it comes to choosing between Epson or Canon as both these companies are what usually come up quite often then lean towards the Canon model every time, I promise you you will be making a way better purchase where as with an Epson, be prepared for a lot of potential problems and serious lack of help and care (I can't over comment on Canon's customer service as I've never needed them which I guess can only be a good thing).I hope this has helped.

Bought this afternoon in a shop in town. As soon as I got it home I installed the driver software from the CD onto an iMac running OSX 10.6.8. Within half an hour we were printing text and photos. No complaints at all. The driver/printer interface was completely logical, text printing is very good, and the photos it prints are as good, or better, than what we can get printed in town at any photographers. However we actually bought this printer for an old eMac G4 that my wife uses to print photos of her watercolours. This computer is the only Mac we know that can switch between systems 9 and 10 - And the ability to still use system 9 is important to us because it is a link back to our applications and our old digital archives of 25 years ago that we can't open on system 10.Sadly,the software that came with the Canon 7250 would not work on System 10.4 (which must be too old a system (or maybe it was the G4 chip that was too old. Maybe the driver needed an Intel chip)). Anyway, I hunted through the Canon site on-line looking for a driver that would work with 10.4 I found one called mepe-mac-4_1_6-ea11.dmg, but could not get it to work.Working down the Google page I then came to the "Printfab" site. They seemed to have a "Swiss Army knife type of application that carried numerous drivers for all sorts of printers. System 10.4 was on their list, together with the Canon iP7250, so I downloaded "printfab-2.61.dmg" on a free 30 day trial. I installed it on the eMac and it worked perfectly - pages of text and pictures galore, with no problem. In a month's time, if we are still using this printfab dfriver we will have to pay a 49 euros licence fee to them in Germany, but it will be worth it.Maybe this info is of help to others who still needs to use older software and Mac operating systems to access old documents and archives.Regarding the printer itself, I don't like it being black but that's my only complaint (apart from the generally universal gripe about the cost of inks). Mechanically it seems solid enough to last for years. Some reviewers have complained of the noise it makes but either they have super-efficient ears or we got a quiet one - it clicks and whirs when it is working, but the sound is pleasant.Other good points are ... We really like the way you can put your A4 letter paper in one tray under the machine, and the glossy photo paper in a second tray, also under the machine. This way they are out of sight, out of the light and out of the dust. Also we like the fact that the front delivery door can be kept closed, and it opens itself automatically during printing to form a tray for the printed sheets or photos. These are first impressions - time will tell - but for the price it is hard to find better value. So far we like it better than the Canon 5200 it replaces, and that was very good.

I have had this printer (Canon IP7250) for around six months now and it was purchased to replace my 9 year old Epson printer which decided to go to printer heaven - Had Epson still made that specific model I would have purchased it again in a heartbeat! Anyway onward and upwards!I use this printer on a daily basis to print documents etc and I must say I was extremely surprised at how high quality the prints are for a budget printer. Although I own a second printer for my creative work, I could in fact use this one too for some of the jobs it does as the quality is just so good. If your looking to simply print documents or starting out in the creative industry and looking for a creative printer, this could easily be a good printer to start with - And for £40! Wow!The downsides to this printer are....... The printer makes alot of noise and although it states the print speed is adequately fast, it does seem to make an awful lot of loading noise where the print heads are every now and again which I find somewhat annoying in the background. Print outs can take a while if it decides to do this and that is not great for productivity! My second biggest gripe - Which left me feeling somewhat angry is that I have been replacing the inks as soon as the printer dialogue comes up to tell me I need to replace them - The computer does state that you can ignore the warnings and continue to print so after forgetting to order inks, I decided to see if the printer would still print out what I needed although it was out of the Black ink. Low and behold, the print was as crisp as before. Usually when I am out of both black inks on my other printer and the one I had before the Black would come out showing a blue faded tone, but it did not do that. Anyway six weeks on, I am now out of Cyan, Yellow and both Black and my printer is still using the same cartridges, also showing I am out of ink and still printing crisp and bright images. How is this possible? Well I have no idea but the fact that I was changing the inks all this time thinking I was out has left me a tad angry at the money I have probably wasted in the long run! I have no idea if this is just happening on mine. I have contacted canon who state it is not a printer fault and that a little ink is left in to prevent clogging! Well it must be an awful lot of ink saying I print daily and around 50 sheets minimum a day, of which 25% are in full colour! In summary I do like the printer due to the quality of prints and the price. The noise is somewhat annoying but the quality of the prints make up for that! As for the ink issue, had I not discovered that the dialogue was making me waste ink, I would have probably replaced the printer due to the amount of Ink I was purchasing before, that being said now I know I will stick with the printer until it dies on me.

I like Canon products hence the reason I purchased this printer to replace my aging HP printer. All in all I'm pretty happy with the item. The setup processes was fairly straightforward, I opted for the WiFi connection option. The printer features are very good. I've not tried the disc print option yet (another reason I opted for the model). The photo printing option is very good. And if you are willing to shop around, the print cartridges don't have to cost an arm and a leg. So all in all the printer quality, design and features are very good. That's the good stuff. Now the 2 drawbacks. The printer connectivity only offers USB connection or WiFi. There is no option for a wired LAN connection, which is the connection I would have opted for, if it were available.Second, and this is the big one to my mind, the printer takes forever to start up or go through it's pre-print process. For the life of me I can't understand why it does this. When you switch the printer on it does a ridiculous amount of house-keeping tasks before you can do anything. You've got enough time to go and make yourself a coffee and grab a snack, the amount of time this process takes. Although not quite as bad, it also takes a long time before it will start printing from when the print actually hits the printer. Again, it seems to go through an excessive amount of pre-print house keeping tasks before it will actually start. Once started the print process is very fast.I contacted Canon about this problem and their response was that it was important that the printer went through both processes, not really giving a reason why, but suggested it might be alleviated by switching from WiFi to USB connection. This is not really an option for me as I don't want to have to have a PC booted up all the time just to share the printer across my home network. So I can't say if this would actually cure this problem or not.I've decided to live with the problem because I'm not a heavy print user, and the print quality is fine. But to someone who does a lot of printing this could be a major issue for them.8/9/14 - Update.Must say I've warmed to the printer a bit more now. I'm not sure if it's my imagination or not, but the time it takes to do its housekeeping tasks does seem to have reduced. I have also now tried printing direct on CD/DVD, and although the software supplied to do this is a little old-hat, the quality is fantastic. It does eat its way through the printer cartridges a little, obviously when you are doing a lot of full colour printing, but as previously stated, with a little shopping around you can pick these up at quite a reasonable price.I have now adjusted my original 3 stars to 4.

I use this printer mainly to print off photographs, and it is excellent, the print quality is so professional even at the standard settings, and it's really quick too!You have 2 trays. In one tray, I keep it loaded with my 6x4 photo paper, and keep my other tray loaded with A4. So I can easily change between these 2 sizes just by changing my paper size in the printer settings. But essentially what you can do is, if you like printing documents and photographs... you can keep the first tray loaded with up to 7x5 photo paper, and just use the a4 tray for normal a4 printing paper.Ink is expensive, but actually quite reasonably priced compared to some other printers I have owned in the past. You can get some very good quality compatible ones from companies such as moreinks for slightly cheaper than the genuine inks, and they have a good and trusted reputation. I've used ink catridges in the past which totaled up to £100.The automatic duplex is very useful, especially when you are printing out a lot of pages and want to save paper and time.I highly recommend that you set up your printer for wireless use and connect to it like this so all your other computers can access it too. When installing the driver, be careful because a lot of other things gets included which can be a bit annoying, but some people may like the software that comes with it, but personally I don't.I really do think that Canon have done well when designing this printer. The output tray automatically pops down if it's printing so you don't forget and cause a paper jam. The paper trays are inside the printer so no more dust collecting paper. Each ink cartridge has a status light which I believe is used to tell you which one needs replacing (let's face it, 5 ink catridges and when you get to replacing it you may forget which one has run out). I can't help but think that Canon have thought of the common printing problems and have done what they can to resolve some of them which always gets a thumbs up by me.Whatever you want to print, photographs, documents etc, this is a printer suitable for all types of printing up to A4. You really can't go wrong. To me, Canon have packed features into this low priced printer, and I just had to buy it!I hope this review helps you to decide on purchasing it or not. But for the price, you are getting an absolute bargain with the print quality and features.

I wanted an additional colour printer because I am using cheap inks in my existing Canon and, although they give good results, they are not archive quality, and I print photos for family albums that I want to last a long time. So I purchased the iP7250 because the price was reasonable, I can fit it with Canon archive inks, and it had a lot of good reviews here on Amazon. And, of course, I am familiar with and very happy with my past and existing Canon inkjets.I have read most of the reviews already posted for this printer, including all the one and two star reviews, and was a little perturbed at some of the comments.I ordered this printer from Amazon Spain at 3 p.m. and it arrived the following day at 10 a.m.Even for Amazon, that has got to be a record! I unpacked it and followed the simple Quickstart sheet instructions. It carried out a perfect test print. I inserted the supplied CD into my Mac and followed the on-screen instructions, connecting the supplied power lead and the USB cable, both of which were of quite sufficient length. The software downloaded and it registered on my Mac without a hitch. It printed perfectly. I then set it up to print from both computers on my local network. Again, it set up without a hitch and worked perfectly. Several reviewers commented on the noise. It is the quietest printer I have, but then I am used to Canons and they do chunter a bit when they are head cleaning. You want a good result, your machine cleans your heads - that's what you would expect from a quality colour printer. This is my fifth printer and by far the easiest to set up. I am at a loss to understand why some reviewers found this a problem - it could hardly be easier. As with all Canon Pixmas, the quality is excellent. The total cost of the five cartridges is a little expensive but I want archive quality and I expect to have to pay for that. My other Canon will use cheap inks for day-to-day colour use.So, for a very reasonable outlay I now have an archive colour printer, a day-to-day colour printer and, to keep the cost down, a Brother Laser black and white printer, all connected to my two Mac computers and working well.I find this Canon iP7250 an excellent machine in every respect and is highly recommended.

Having recently photographed a wedding for my wife's cousin, I needed to produce a professional looking DVD for her. I don't merit myself as an amateur photographer (being employed in another job full time), but I would consider I have the knowledge and a little experience in shooting a decent enough looking wedding. (They were very pleased with the results anyway!) Prior to my purchase of this printer, I approached many reputable high street printing shops and none of them printed a full image with text on a disc!! I couldn't believe it. I even went to a popular printing and copying unit and they don't even do it anymore! So, with small funds I thought 'right I need to get my own printer that can print straight on to discs'.Having searched the web for a decent one, I came across the Canon ip7250. It prints on 2 separate trays. 1 for A4 documents and photos and another just for photos! It prints straight onto discs. It prints on both sides of paper. It works wirelessly. It works with AirPrint. And it doesn't have those pointless screens where you can view or scroll across your images before you print them. You view them on your computer or iOS device beforehand anyway!!I ordered it from Amazon, and it came within 4 days no problem. Got it out, set it up effortlessly. Used the necessary software to print onto discs and it performs beautifully. Images are pin sharp! Very impressed with the results.Prints photos pretty quickly considering the quality of them. I'm one of these individuals that doesn't really want to risk buying 3rd party inks for the sake of saving cash. Which is why I'm glad these inks last a long time. I've printed 4 A4 photos. 12 DVD covers. 6 DVD's. 4 transfer paper images. 6 documents and the inks have barely moved. Magenta, Cyan and Yellow are 3/4 full. The blacks are still full to the brim! All this for just less than £50. Come on, it's a no-brainer!!Printed a DVD cover for their wedding DVD too. So job done and very professional looking.

I ordered the Canon Pixma ip7250 as a replacement for the Pixma ip4500 which had given me excellent service; I did not wish to go for one of the many All in One models currently available. At £50 including a set of Canon ink cartridges this is a bargain particularly when one considers that a replacement set of genuine Canon cartridges alone will cost more than this! Printing quality and speed is excellent and in every way comparable with the Pixma ip4500. I would have preferred two full size paper trays capable of A4 rather than one for up to A4 and the other for 6x4in and 7x5in papers but this may better suit other users. The use of tray paper feeds rather than a hopper results in a low profile printer so that I can easily mount other objects above this printer. The Canon 'My Image Garden' software included is of no value to me and I suspect, few others will find it useful. You can easily delete this very large cumbersome program together with the 'Design Files' without any problem provided you have alternative software to allow direct disk printing. Actually, the disk printing software which is hidden in 'My Image Garden' is practically useless. However, Canon CD Label Print software which came with the Pixma ip4500 and other models (and should be available as a free download) does work fine with the Pixma ip7250 in spite of the fact that Canon does not indicate that this is the case. I have also been delighted to find that the latest version of Acoustica CD Label Maker (which is amongst the best label making software available) now allows direct disk printing with the Pixma ip7250. This printer is probably a little noisier than the ip4500 but this is not a problem for me and I have not even bothered to try the quiet printing mode setting. The automatic duplex setting on this printer is certainly very convenient and it works very well. Five stars for the printer but I am excluding the extra software from this rating.

If you are looking for a high quality photo printer that has the ability to produce beautiful borderless prints, whether that be on A4 or other popular paper sizes, plus automatic double-sided printing of colour or black+white documents and might possibly need to print the occasional CD/DVD label but do not require scanner or copier facilities, then I would thoroughly recommend this Canon PIXMA iP7250 printer which performs well, whether via the USB cable or wi-fi. It has two integrated paper trays and the main A4 tray accommodates up to 125 sheets of standard paper. You can even print photos or documents directly from your smartphone without needing a laptop or PC to intervene, using the Canon Print app.To replace the supplied starter ink cartridges when the time comes, I would recommend purchasing Canon Genuine Ink XL cartridges which provide you with better value running costs as compared with the standard-size cartridges. The cartridges are the same size as it is just the ink quantity they contain that varies. At time of writing, I purchased a full set of five Canon Genuine Ink XL cartridges for just over £59 on eBay.Then of course, you can simply purchase the cartridges individually if you wish, as you require them. One tip, if you should purchase this printer, there was an error in the supplied "Getting Started" guide regarding how to run the Print Alignment procedure whereby it said to "Press the RESUME/CANCEL button" when ready but it should read, "Hold down the RESUME/CANCEL button until the POWER lamp flashes white four times, then release it immediately." Canon were advised of this error. For general document printing, I use the "Fast" setting which provides more than adequate quality for most day-to-day items, whilst being very economical in ink use but obviously you can experiment with the full range of settings provided. I would definitely recommended this printer.

I always had very good results from Canon so I stuck with them and upgraded from an old i865 to the iP7250, mainly because the 7250 also prints on CDs. I knew from experience not to waste time and money chasing higher-end models. A reasonably-well reviewed printer would suit. In this case the price was definitely an incentive - I got mine for around £50. I first checked that I would be able to get cheap generic ink for this printer, and I found this was the case so went ahead. The first thing to say is that the SIZE is a shock...I had completely not taken on the fact that these printers do not take paper from above, so they are very deep. This takes up far more room than my old printer.Plus the paper tray needs to come forward of that. All this may be a negative for those concerned about the printer footprint.I decided to follow the instructions to the letter, and managed to go through the setup fine...though the Windows driver setup needed a bit of messing about. In the old days this was a faster process. I think it was more to do with the printer and computer 'thinking' for longer about their situation.....so in the end I just waited.Personally I do not need the wireless aspect of this printer, so I turned it off, since I've read that this printer takes a long time to start etc, so I imagine turning off wireless will help with that. (You just hold the lower button in until the start light flashes 12 times).I printed out a full-colour A4 printer test page and I'm very happy with thatI have only just got it, so at the moment I like it, hence the review 4 stars.Having used it a while:I still like it a lot because of the high quality print and adding paper to the tray works well. However, what everyone says about it 'whirring away' for longish periods is true. If Canon did away with that this printer would be a killer.

After a few happy years using an Epson P50 my second one died!! Now I'm sure I only paid £79 for the last one in early 2011 but as they are now £179 on here a rethink was needed!! As I've always read good reviews of Canon printers and used one many years ago myself I looked at their range and saw this seemed to fit the bill at only £52.Installation and that first print took almost an hour, but was very straightforward and I even did my very first WiFi printer connect in seconds. Printing via my application (PaintShop Pro) my first photo print was a little gloomy, but going through the 'Main' options and manually setting to 'Light' sorted that and my second print was very good - a bit change from battling through a pack of paper previously!!I then just tweaked the Colour Adjustment to warm up the skin tones and I was sorted. (This was using Kodak 3 Star Photopaper on the Photo Paper Plus Glossy II setting on High Quality)Going Wifi is a big plus over previously cabling as the printer can sit neatly out of the way in a different room and I have fewer cables under my feet!!The second big plus is the dual internal paper-trays!! Leaving paper in the Epson meant leaving the rear flap open and the paper sticking up, which tended to warp it. Now I can load 50 sheets of the Kodak paper (and presumably the Canon GP 501 when it comes) and leave it in, lying flat, dust and warp free.My one concern in advance was would the drop from 6 photo inks down to 4 and the drop in DPI make a difference? Well, I'm a relived man on that front as my prints are looking super. And after making that colour adjustment my mon prints are actually better!I wasn't too pleased to be having to buy a new printer, but this very neat and practical is a 5 Star replacement!!

I didn't buy this printer from Amazon, due to a catalogue of delivery confusion. However, I did pick one up at my local PC World and am so far very happy with it.I wanted a photo printer that did just that - not one that tries to be a fax and a scanner as well. I had no need for the wi-fi option but a USB cable was supplied to get around that. Results are good. It can be a tad noisy compared to the Canon Pixma iP4500 that it replaced, but it has a Quiet Setting (don't know what the trade-off has been when using this mode, but surely there must be one, or it would run quieter all the time?). There is no back feed, but it takes my 200gsm gloss photo paper which appears to have no difficulty in traveling round the rollers and back on itself. This makes for a smaller desk footprint that is further enhanced by the fact that the paper tray are situated in the base of the actual printer, which I like.Regular plain paper printing is great as it can print both sides of a sheet of 80gsm paper, so can half your expense for that kind of material. There are lots of printing gizmos included, that enable to include your photographs in templates that provide a number of useful printed items and the available range of settings mean that this a very flexible printer by any standard. When you hit your "Print" icon, the paper delivery flap pops out automatically and doesn't have to clutter your desk for the duration.I like this printer very much so far and if it gives me the quality and length of service that its Canon predecessor did I shall consider it money well spent.I had to pay £10.00 more at PC World, but have since seen it only £5.00 more than the Amazon price (without a delivery charge) at a nearby Cartridge World.

I've now had this printer for over three years - like many people (I expect) I bought a new printer quickly after a previous one had failed, and went for a sub £60 budget option, with a sneaking suspicion that ink costs would mount up. My previous printer didn't take to the use of budget ink cartridges, so I was sceptical that this one would last the course. However it has been running happily on budget cartridge replacements - they cost about a third of the canon genuine ones, so my savings are considerable.I'd say the negative things about this printer are the speed, and the "startup" time for it to whirr away and get ready to print (cleaning?) - it seems to do this much more than previous printers.I can't be exact about the ink costs, but I get through about 500 pages of basic grade A4 paper every 6 months or so and replace all the 5 cartridges about every 3-4 months. I frequently print duplex which works well. I've printed photos, sometimes baffled by the way to fix the orientation and sizing of the paper. The photo prints arent particularly high quality, but ok for me. I've printed direct to CD which again I'm pleased with. The integration with the canon software and drivers is a little clunky, but I now know my way round the options. it has draft mode, and duplex and it can be run wireless. but doesnt directly link to my iphone which would be a nice feature. It has a flat top so I can put things on it and ink cartridge change is easyThe best thing I can say is that its lasted the course. If it jammed or messed up tomorrow I'd say that for a sub £60 bit of kit, its lasted well and I don't feel I've wasted my meagre budget. So hope this helps future purchasers
