As with most Canon kit you'd expect it to be good and it is. A well made product which fits easily and securely. Has a matt "felt" like interior to the hood which does not reflect light. All of my lenses have the Canon hoods - they are useful when shooting when the sun is out or strong light in general keeping lens flares away. Not only that they do offer some moderate protection to your lens either from knocking it or anything blowing around. I wouldn't consider not having one personally.Maybe expensive but you do get what you pay for, when you consider the cost of your lens it isn't that much. It's just a shame Canon don't supply them as standard with the lens itself (unless you get an L glasslens)!

Clearly I don't need to talk about lens hoods, you know what they're for. I mainly wanted to add the following:I would give this 5, but on my EF 50mm f/1.4 it is just ever so slightly loose fitting. By contrast the lens hood on my L-series EF 24-105mm f/4 is very tight fitting and feels totally secure. This, of course, could just be due to natural variation. Perhaps my hood is at the loose end of the tolerances of manufacture.Regardless, the hood is excellent. It has the felt interior that you get on the L-series lenses, which is fantastic. This one also reverses, which is handy for sticking it away in my camera bag.

Ultimately it is a bit penny pinching of Canon not to include lens hoods with their lenses, but they don't and probably never will at this level. This one works well and is highly recommended even if only to protect the delicate front zoomy bit. Overpriced but works.

As per other review for a lens hood, buy one, they do work and improve your photo's, especially when the sun's up and glansing the lens. The bayonet fitting is very quick to use. Good additional protection to the lens front when the camera is hanging off your neck!

Great hood, excellent fitting instantly, no hassles, excellent finishing on the inside (makes the Chinese ebay knock-offs really laughable in comparison) and great quality / price overall. Only hope Canon would make the L-hoods more reasonably-priced as well.

It is a very good hood, better than 3rd party offers. Feels sturdy and its internal velvet-like lining traps light reflections on the hood itself. Shame it is not included with EF 50mm f/1.4 and it costs a bit too much. Otherwise, a 5-star product.

This is a good quality item and fits the lens well. It's a little more than what i think is a fair price but that's Canon for you. I decided to go ahead and buy it because i've found in the past that if you only want to buy once then buy good.

A bit of a cheeky price at around £23. Fair enough it's original Canon but when one can get Third parparty prodproducts for a third of this price I think it's unfairly priced! That said, item exactly as described and arrived on time.

I bought a cheaper version a few months ago but it didn't fit well and kept falling off so I decided to pay the extra and buy the Canon one which at least fits properly. Sometimes you get what you pay for - even if it's over priced.

A lens hood. It fits well, no problems there. Although I do regret not buying a 3rd party item for a third of the price. (Is that where that phrase came from?). But it does what it's supposed to do, so can't complain.

Very good quality and fast delivery! A bit pricey tho, Canon could definitely add theses hoods to the lenses boxes an a part of it. It's a very important tool and you will definitely improve your shots by using it..

All good! Used the hood to photograph a wedding the day I recieved it! So was glad it wasn't delayed.Only comment would be that it's slightly tight when screwing on. But rather that than loose!

Can't think of much to say in a review other than this works well, although I find that I often leave it at home because it takes up more bag space than it is worth much of the time.

The usual Canon quality but just too expensive. Having spent over two hundred pounds on the lens I didn't want to comprise the lens by buying a cheaper equivalent. Glad I did.

Genuine Canon lens hood. Does exactly what it is supposed to do. It may cost more than a copy but is a high quality item, as you would expect from Canon, and fits perfectly.
