These lanterns have long been a staple for campers. As soon as you get away from mains electricity you realise just how dark it is for much of the time, particularly during the winter and just how expensive and bothersome it is to provide decent amounts of illumination. Obviously battery powered torches are easy and safe, but frankly they do not provide much light and are very expensive. Candles and paraffin lamps are cheap and relatively safe but do not provide all that much light. A Camping Gaz lantern provides light equivalent to a standard light bulb at a relatively affordable cost. The gas cylinder is a sealed unit, so it is safer than alternatives like the Coleman Lanterns that run on unleaded petrol! There is a faff factor, you have to fit a mantle, (cloth sock that once charred provide the wick) and it comes with a fragile glass globe that is breakable. However with reasonable care and following the instructions, neither of these are much of a problem. Look after this and you should be fine.If there is a power cut then this is an absolute essential, otherwise just store in a shed or outbuilding and forget about it.This is a basic model, but despite the baffling array of different models from Camping Gaz they are all pretty much the same, though some come with electronic starters, this one does not.For your money you get one mantle, but no gas cylinder, you need Campingaz CV470 Gas Cartridge. I've not tried out replacement mantles or globes, so cannot recommend any particular model, but they are available. Finally, the default packing from Camping Gaz is skimpy, my lantern arrived with a broken globe, the supplier was excellent and popped a well packed replacement globe in the post the next day. If you can buy from a shop, or even Argos, then you could avoid the faff or receiving a lantern with a broken globe, but otherwise a sound purchase, albeit a little expensive for what you get.

Great delivery. Great price 14.00 odd.Really easy to use, follow the instructions included,as need to burn mantle first which is a bit smelly so go outside (this is included, Gaz is not).Very bright, warmed up our tent, sturdy handle when carrying it, gives you a white not yellowy light so easy to read with it, and the light isn't just in one direction as many battery operated lamps seem to be....does that make sense. We bought the larger Gaz for 5 nights camping and have loads left.Highly recommend.

I hadn't used one of these since 90s. Someone reminded me of them so ordered. Ah I love this light. It's a shame it doesn't have an igniter. But this is minor. Such a warm bright light, and gives additional heat in the tent. I even like the hiss it makes. Perfect light for non electric camping gives warmth and decent lighting. Warm cosy ambient light that is very bright. Arrived quickly and undamaged. Love it. Might even order another one.

Every household should have one of these little lamps - indispensable if, like me, you live in an area prone to frequent power cuts. They're lightweight and small enough to tuck into a cupboard, are quick and easy to light - the switch on the side is simple to find in the dark - and they give out a good strong light which lasts for many hours. I've bought several of them over the years and would thoroughly recommend them to anybody.

Have to give it 5 stars as it looks like a quality lantern. However as a quick skim purchase (made with over zealous confidence) there is no gas supplied. They do state this in black and white, so fair play.Slightly miss leading with pictures of the gas cartridge.People who made the same mistake have given it a 1 star which is a bit dumb, even dumber than the mistake I made.

Great Lantern at a very good price, very easy set up and includes mantle (no gas canister). Lovely glow and warmth, adds significantly to any camping experience. LEDs while useful and more durable provide a cold hue and are very artificial. Only negative is trying to protect the delicate mantle and glass during transport.

Fantastic little lantern. Bought it to replace the same one I’ve had for 20+ years (dropped it from a height and broke it).Great for having inside my tent at this time of year when turned down really low, it puts out some comforting heat as well as light.

Nice light, unfortunately since Coleman bought them they've gone down the China route but why did the price increase by nearly £4 as soon as I bought it, dealer or Amazon?Still, it was a good price and a good product

Or I will like it when the bottom half arrives! Wasn't obvious you had to order two parts, very mis-leading and annoying as it was for delivery to homeless chap which has now been held over for a few days.....

Used this for many braai's, light output is super powerful and lasts a long time. Used with a 470 camingaz. The equivalent led battery power doesn't come close to the light output from this. Highly recommend.

Good quality lamp which gives out more light than I expected. Took a while to arrive though but at least it did arrive in good condition. Now ready for the first storm and power cuts.

This is a very useful standby when there is no electricity and is so much better, and safer, than candles. We are able to read and knit by the light that it gives. Very happy with it.

This item was purchased by my me in case of power cuts during the winter months. At this point in time I have had to use it two times and it has worked perfectly.

Unfortunately the lamp shade was broken when it arrived due to insufficient packaging...contacted Halfords and was given a replacement immediately at the shop..
