This is an ace game like its predecessor. There are many advances in th gameplay. first much more often you are involved in big battles. These battles do not gt repetitive as they can be easily los and won by either side. Squad combat ranges from sniping to launching bazookas at Tanks. Then there is now the new Deployable Machine Gun that although takes a few seconds to set up but once it is, they are deadly. These bring in a whoe new dimension to the game in the fact that you have to hide and throw grenades, often they will move too.The AI on this game is slightly better to. Although still i get annoyed when im firing t the enemy and my own man runs ino my line of fire.Even worse is when i throw a grenade down a corridor and then my own man runs after it shooting the enemy to eventually be killed by my GRENADE causing me to fail the mission. Although that does rarely happen, oten they shout grenade and tak cover. The other grea thing is the squad s ensencial, you could not do the missions with out them addidng to the realism. The enemy will also hide and use cover which produces great firefights.Graphics are great too although the game runs slightly slower than the Game Of The Year Edition despite the graphics being slightly better on Game Of The Year. This is mainly because the missions on Game of The Year can be upto a quarter of the size as Offnsive. Then the multiplayer on this game is awesome, it has bought me over 3 times the entertainment that single player has. This is because although single player is great, it can just get repetitive whereas multipayer doesnt. To play this game though you need The Game Of The Year Edition because this is an expansion. There is over 40 maps and 7 different game modes although not all maps can play each game mode. But there is over 120 different combinations producing a fantastic variety of gameplay. Ive even been on servers with 50 players and still no lag although the are rare. Now you can even ride jeeps and tanks in multiplayer but do not think this takes away the infantry part to the game as some maps do not allow vehicles on themand on the ones that do the server owner can always disable them although thos maps are massive. Some maps are very big and wil take ages to learn your way around. Overall for any gamer who likes WW2 shhoters will like this game. well worth the money and it totally outclasses MOH. MOH ur days are numbered.........................

I do not care at all how Call of Duty has evolved and how it is today. It is currently struggling to keep the fast pace that made CoD4 such a success. People went to the point of asking "how awesome would it be if Infinity Ward and Treyarch [Gray Matter in 2004, so to speak] made a game togheter?". Well, you have it here.It must be known that each of the developers have their strong points in programming and weak points. Infinity Ward's tactical shooter plus with Gray Matter's special vehicle warfare make the game balanced altogheter.Call of Duty: United Offensive brings to the classic a campaign half of the size of the original one, making it having a total of 37 missions,a cold punch in campaign length compared to any other game of the Call of Duty series. It brings up new guns that balance all factions, letting them all have a Bolt-action rifle (with the exception of the Americans, which has the M1A1 Carbine instead),a submachine gun, a combat automatic rifle (except the German, which include the now considered assault rifle, the MP44), a semi-automatic rifle, a sniper and a Light Machine Gun (except the Red Army). There are other more "supportive" weapons, such as the Bazooka, the Panzershreck, the flamethrower, between others. Spriting is also added to take out Call of Duty's unlucky moments where you are trying to get on cover and the "jog-only" movement made you eat the bullet.Multiplayer gives 11 new multiplayer maps and 3 new game modes, evolving and stepping up Call of Duty's lack of team-play based game modes. They throw at you tanks at jeeps for quick movement and cover long range engagement (and pound on the crap out of your opponents, of course!). Stationary Flak 88's on the maps also help the defenseless infantry to have a chance in front of the heavy monsters, but Gray Matter did a great job of creating a large grid of houses, where you really can enter most of them, and so have an infantry fight in some spots of the map, as well as you can ambush the tanks yourself and left un-noticed with the proper explosive weapons, and making the tanker confused where is it coming from.Call of Duty: United Offensive brings to the classic a big punch, and although there's a decreased population, there are peak hours where you can enjoy alongside about 1,000 players, more than enough to enjoy such game.Must-have!

.Don't you hate people you write feeble review and haven't even played the game? Or people who have only taken part in the beta testing and when you actually buy the game it doesn't have the exploding legs in the final version. Well, I can tell you that this game is definately better than the first. It's set in the Second World War again, but this time you get to play people who were very far away from the fighting, either just around the corner or actually in a different country. If you are quite close you can hear a lot of banging. If you're a bit further there might be flashes on the horizon, while in the other country scenario you have to rely on newpapers.I've actually played this game andI spent several hours in a rainforest in this incredible greenness watching huge butterflies dancing in the beams of light coming through the canopy and listening to the birds calling and monkeys whooping mournfully. Knowing people were being blown apart a long way away added a sort of counterpoint to the experience which would be difficult to put into words. Quite numinous really. One of the high points of the game for me was being quite far away from tanks, so you couldn't even hear them and that really distinctive sound they make which used to make me feel very stressed in the original game. Now try not to get too annoyed but actually I haven't played it. It's not out yet. But don't you think virtual reality is overrated? What about actual reality?Try this at home. Put some thick gardenning gloves on, and a cardboard box with eye-holes cut out over your head, and walk round the house. You are in an actual reality environment! Touch things, notice how perspective changes when you move. Now go out the door. See how amazing the bare trees look as you walk past them. Now kneel in front of people at a bus stop and make mooing noises. They won't know who you are so it's quite safe.So the game will be like the first only better. I bet you.Best wishesMike

.. which, Lord knows, was a hell of a game to start with. The single player game extends the original with new weapons, including the flame thrower, borrowed from this same company's Return to Castle Wolfenstein. It also has a much improved explosion, fire and particle smoke system. However, this eye candy comes at a price in terms of FPS; the game runs noticeably slower than the original, especially on some of the bigger, outdoor levels. When you're inside buildings, you won't notice so much. (Playing on a Athlon XP 2400+ with a Radeon 9800 Pro). The only other quibble about the single player game is (here comes that same old broken record!) it's a tad on the short side. That seems to be par for the course for expansion packs. But it's really the multi-player game that shines here: I mean, wow! This is an absolutely HUUUUGE leap of the original's (admittedly, somewhat limited) efforts. Think Call of Duty meets Battlefield 1942. The maps are much, much bigger, and yes, you can finally drive vehicles in multi-player game. Only tanks, jeeps etc though; there's no pilotable aircraft. If, like me, you've always balked at the idea of paying out money for decent multi-player only games, then this is the expansion pack for you.

as an addon pack this seems a lil on the short side, i completed it in under 5 hours (and that includes getting killed a few times!!). such a shame its starts off very well. having been a fan of the Band Of Brothers series i was able to appreciate the bastogne level, though again it did seem like i was the only soldier fighting the germans. graphics as we have come to expect from the call of duty series are stunning. the AI however still suffers from wat i have called 'being crap' syndrome. when they take cover the enemy are quite intelligent, but they never move once in the cover, so its quite easy to pick them off. the plane mission though was absolutely excellent, something new at last!though did turn into the usual kind of COD mission.overall though i would recommend it, makes a change not knowing where every single enemy will pop up and there does seem to be a little more variety than the first game.hope they make a COD2, but with more intelligent enemies and less predictable missions.

Call of Duty is with out doubt the benchmark WW2 FPS. Heavily scripted but has excellent atmosphere and great set pieces. The weapons are excellent also, well could do being more realistic, but this is game you wnat fun, and fun is what you get by the bucket load. The new stuff is all the things you wanted in the old game, IW have listened to the community and add in all the stuff they wanted. the game also looks even better than before.COD is the number online FPS and there are lots and lots of downloadable maps and mods (merciless blood mod, AWE, Codam, HOB) basically they just make the game better and better, extra gametypes and lots of new things to do and see. In short a great online game, but the expansion is buggy, due to it been rushed some what, the decals disappear and the servers can be laggy if set up poorly. A patch is die anytime and this shoudl sort the problems. In short if you want a WW2 fps this is without dowt the best out there and teh online gaming is excellent.

This is an amazing add on to an already amazing game, those femiliar with the original game will know that it adds 3 campaigns, one as an american, one as a brit, and finally russian. The american one takes place in the battle of the bulge, which starts amazingly with having to defend the american lines from a foxhole, moving on to assault a village, the british one a gunner on a b-17, but being shot down and incorparated into the sas. and the russian one, the best of all, is the battle of kursk, the biggest tank battle in history, these are all execcellent levels, but you will complete it all within a day, a problem with the original COD, its a bit to short, hence the 4 stars. But the multiplayer is massively improved, with severeal new modes and the ability to drive tanks really adds to the longetivity of the game but, i still prefer 1942 for multiplayer ww2 gaming. but still, you cant beat driving along the russian steppes engageging near over 30 german tanks.......

A long awaited expansion disc that follows the highly rated Call of Duty. The single player game is tougher than the original( well, except for the 1st part of the Russian section in COD ).But the most exciting part is the online game. Now you can climb into jeeps and tanks! But on most servers I have tried it on, the vehicles cause quite a bit of ' lag '.This can be sorted out by reducing the number of vehicles and concentrate on the infantry game. The new online maps look good and are almost huge! One of the new weapons that most players like to use is the flamethrower! very effective close range ;-)You will also find smoke grenades, satchel charges, light machine guns (can't be fired on the move and takes a few seconds to set up ).So to sum up, the single player game is great but the online game is much better!Don't forget, you have guys out there designing new maps and mods which adds icing to an already enjoyable cake!

I'll keep this simple. I have finished this game and would say that if you have the original Call Of Duty - what are you waiting for!Buy it now! This game takes all of the original elements and cranks up the quality still further. The graphics have been improved (especially the explosions) and have added great new features like deployable machine guns and flamethrowers. Yes there are the same "issues" with scripting, but really the unique experience you get from playing this game overwrites any minor criticisms you might have.If you have yet to experience Call Of Duty, get the deluxe version (the original COD, plus United Offensive)- you will not regret it...it's the most intense war game currently available! With the latest MOH title on the horizon and the upcoming Brothers in Arms, COD/UO may have a fight on it's hands to retain the top spot in war games, but for now it reigns supreme.

Many reviewers before me have compalined about the quality of the single player campaign, and it is true that it is very similar to the original, merely with the missions set in different places. There are also not many new missions; this is far short of the original's length. However, this product shines in the multiplayer. The new maps are fun (although some are a little large for practicality) but the big improvement are the new combat features. You'd be surprised how much adding sprint, satchel charges and mountable machine guns as a primary weapon helps the multiplayer games become so much more fun. The rank structure is also a great idea and adds a new element of challenge to the multiplayer game and helps a game progress.Note that, especially for the larger maps and busier servers, a fast connection is required. Reccommend 1mbit to avoid being shut out of servers for high pings.

The eagerly awaited expansion pack for the peerless Call of Duty is as handsome as its progenitor and offers plenty of single player action. Stand-out features are some nifty new weapons and a mission with the player acting as a gunner aboard a B17. Otherwise its more of the same, but in this case that is no bad thing. The narrative is weaker than the orginal game, with the climax of the storming of Berlin not matched here. Consequently this feels like a bunch of very loosely connected missions that don't quite go anywhere in particular. That all said this is fitting follow-on for what has become an epoch defining game. Action-packed, adrenaline-fueled gaming, this keeps the addict satisfied at least for now.

...so it must be yawn-yawn, right? Wrong - we are talking Call of Duty, the best WWII shooter there is, and seeing as the original was too fart oo short more of the same must be a good thing, right? (Right!).Alas, United Offensive is still a short game, if the two had been one game it would have hit the target but nevermind.A few months ago this expansion cost more than COD Deluxe Edition, which included both games but now I see the prices have tumbled so you can't go wrong!I still feel sorry for the Medal of Honour chaps though, what are they going to do now? Pacific Assault was pants so they need something special now that COD2 is out (even though COD1 is better).

15.10.2004

Its more of the same from the expansion pack to the awesome Call of Duty. This time you get to man the machine guns on a Flying Fortress, turn a flame thrower on the opposition, call in artillery strikes and pick up and deploy light machine guns. its fun and at times frantic. You start off as an American Paratrooper at the Battle of the Bulge, through parachuting in over occupied territory in Holland with the Dutch Resistance and covert opertations with the SAS as a Brit. To driving tanks and assualting well dug in enemy positions in the Russian Campaign. Call of Pacific Duty or Call of Duty. Vietnam anyone?

1.11.2004

The original Call of Duty was brilliant, but United Offensive is sublime. The graphics and sound are improved - explosions are superb and smoke billows just like the real thing. The missions are designed in such a way that you must take the initiative for your team - if you don't they won't come in to action. This means you have to think for yourself and act decisively. Some of the missions have landscapes so beautiful you would almost consider holidaying there (italy for example, with its dusky glades). But its not a holiday - its war! And its fantastic. A must buy.
