Brilliant game. I have all of the MOH series on the cube and I think this game is not a 'same old, same old' at all. It's in a completely different league. The use of a multitude of vehicles is great and the level where you are inside the bomber, firstly controlling the front gun then crawling along to the ball gun on the underside and finally making your way to guiding the bombs onto the ships below, how is that possibly not different from everything else on the cube? The graphics are far superior than any of the MOH games, also Big red one, is far more intense in it's levels and objectives that have to be achieved. Good effects like when you are caught next to a bomb blast you are temporarily stunned are nice features.Level select option available for this cube version so that's always a plus feature. Auto save is good to have too. The sound effects are well done and you'll find that you are encouraged to advance forwards on missions rather than sitting tight and killing everyone in sight before getting up as unless you advance forwards then the waves of enemies will never stop appearing, it took me several minutes to figure out why, but I think that is a good feature, you have to take risks and launch yourself into situations. There are downsides to the game though, albeit only one, but it's a huge annoyance that ruins the aspect of 'a quick go for a bit of fun' and that is the intro scenes. There's no doubt that they are really good and you can look 360 degrees as the character as part of the scene, some last 15-20 secs and others you can be sat waiting for a couple of minutes - no problem you may think, but no, it's a feature of the game that you have to sit through these scenes everytime you start a level, whether you've played it 600 times before is irrelevant. The MOH series you have the option to skip them and I can not for the life of me see how anyone in the development team thought it would be a good idea to not include the ability to skip them in big red one. They're not even part of the loading process as prior to being forced to sit through a 2 minute scene you also have to sit through the game loading the level, so it's even longer.Overall, no, it is not the same as 'all the other war games', far from it. Loads of fun to be had. Challenging, UNIQUE, intense, just brilliant - let down by long mandatory intro scenes every single time you play

Have you played Call of Duty: Finest Hour? Or any of the Medal of Honor games? Then you've been here before and Big Red One will hold no surprises for you. However it is a pretty decent WW2 themed shooter, probably the best one so far on the consoles although none of them are that great. Some of the levels here a pretty cool, especially the street-fighting ones and one level where you take the role of a gunner on a bomber shooting down German fighters is fun. But some levels are a bit of a snore, especially early on in the Africa campaign.Overall good fun but we're still waiting for the "must have" console WW2 shooter.
