The first thing to say is that some tools are really needed to get the best out of the kit: 1) a craft knife 2) a craft mat for safely cutting on 3) a set of jeweller's screwdriversSecond thing: the kit comes in a load of parts, with an excellent set of instructions - but assembling them requires an ability to follow and interpret the instructions, absolutely in order. The tiny screws require an amount of confidence in screwing them into the plastic. An extremely capable 10-year-old was going to be the recipient of Tibo, and she did help at the start, but didn't last long as there were too many small parts she didn't have the dexterity to assemble. Give her any sort of LEGO and she is brilliant, but this is several levels higher.Okay, on to the assembly. All the parts benefit by cutting from the sprue using a sharp knife, and then, for some, cleaning up the sprue remnants left on the pieces. While the number of individual parts may seem to be daunting, by following the instructions absolutely, the process is really easy.Make sure you have the batteries beforehand as they get built into the robot.Once built, Tibo looks really cute, but it is when it comes to life that it becomes a charmer. At this level, a robot isn't going to go and make tea for you, but it does follow very closely a hand or ankle, and amusingly goes backwards if you reverse direction. It also avoids objects in a very studied way.It has an amusing way of scanning around if it has lost you - before eventually shutting down if it can't locate you.Word of warning - always use Tibo on the floor. It cannot detect the edge of a table, so will pitch off it.I had the best fun making this for my granddaughter, and she has been thrilled by the result.A couple of hours work was involved - you don't rush complex assembly. Well worth the effort!Huge recommendation.

This robot comes in kit form, just like the cars and plane models back in the day when we were children. My husband found this a joy to build and said the instructions were very easy to follow. If a child were to build this an adult would need to help at almost every step, which is a good bonding experience for father and son.I would say this is for 8+ to play with due to it being delicate on the lower half, you always pick it up with the head and never the arms or legs as they are delicate. It requires 4 LR03/AAA batteries, which are not included which I think they should be for the price. The illustrated booklet is very easy to follow with the pictures and diagrams. It isn't made from robust thick moulded plastic, but the thin easy to break type so this is why I said it was delicate and not for children that are rough with their toys.Saying this all my grandsons (age 5, 9 and 11) thought this was awesome as it went about its antics. To change the mode you press the button between Tibo's eyes, which also switches it on and off. The battery's are placed in the neck just below the head.I think the novelty of actually building Tibo yourself will be a crowd pleaser for boys or girls that are into robots and model building. I think even teen boys will love this, I know my husband said he found it fun, therapeutic and exciting to build. he thought it was well worth the price for the enjoyment he got out of building it with one of the grandsons.

Opening this box this Tibo the Robot kit seems quite retro in the way it appears unconstructed. Reminded me of the old Airfix type models I used to spend hours putting together back in the late 60's early 70's. Which, thinking about it, is no surprise as this is really a modern version of those kits. What's different now is that the plastic is already painted, there's some electronic components included and the instructions are in glorious colour. My 11 year nephew and I sat down and made the robot together. Nephew doing most of the work and instruction reading while I just chipped in every now and again to point out where he may be misreading something or answering a question.Everything fitted together well and after a couple of hours we had the robot up and running. I am impressed that it works as well as it does. That's to say it works just as it proposes to. Its probably not the most robust robot in existence and couldn't handle any rough style child play. Keep it away from the Tonka trucks. But the real purpose of it, of course, is to help with a child's construction and instruction following skills. Which I believe it does very well indeed. Our nephew is already asking if there are other similar robot making kits that he can build.

If you buy Tibo, you will also need 4AAA batteries to make him operational. A long thin posidrive screwdriver is needed for a couple of the screws. French designed. Made in Taiwan.Suitable for ages 8+ Tibo is a fun model to build. Younger children will need supervision and some help. Toddlers and pets should be kept out of the way.We found the instructions easy to follow and liked the helpful colouring. The stated build time is 2 hrs, I recommend allowing for twice that, for a more relaxed experience. Extra time also allows you to cut and file off any flash. If you have no previous modelling experience you may struggle. If you are heavy handed parts may break.Once assembled Tibo looks pretty cute.If we had chosen our own colour for a robot, it would have been this colour. Mechanically he works well. The sensor range is fairly short and he is sluggish to react.Tibo is quite pricey, but I think that he is worth it as a special present. Building your first robot is a right of passage that a child is always going to remember. I think Tibo is worthy enough to be such a first experience. A co-operative experience shared with a family member as well. Will give a child a significant confidence boost.

This is an interesting robot, which is good for older kids (I’d say 8+ but with adult help to build) at a cheaper price point than many of the robots out at the moment. Obviously due to that, it has less features and the quality is reflected in the lower price but it’s a great way to see how much your child engages with the robot toy without spending so much.BUKI needs to be put together using press out plastic pieces from the kit, it’s similar to model cars or planes in that the pieces press out from the plastic frame. Instructions are given but it takes a while.Once put together BUKI is quite small, with 6 legs to travel in any direction. It’s lrogrammed to avoid obstacles and follow paths which is quite cool and interesting for my kids. They do prefer some other robots that we have, but I’d say BUKI is a good starter robot

Summary:Satisfying to buildEducational and interestingA bit noisy and some teething problems! This charming little robot feels like a challenge for a beginner to build, but is actually pretty simple in its design. Once you get to grips with some tiny fiddly screws, it actually comes together pretty quickly. You build it from its main electronics (two motors) outwards. So you can learn a lot about how it's working as you go. The final construction of the spider-like legs is very nifty and pleasing. The only downsides for me were that the final robot was actually too heavy for its legs to support, so it just sort of sat there, grinding its cogs for a while. Time to go back and iron out the glitches! Also, it's pretty oppressively noisy motor-wise, but if that doesn't bother you, there's hours of fun in this.

This is a quite brilliant toy. I loved it.Assembly is tricky - definitely requires an adult to at least supervise. It requires patience and a bit of dexterity and you absolutely must adhere to the comprehensive instructions. When assembled you have a cute little robot that can either follow you like a puppy or roam around and avoid things on the floor. Sooo much fun!No batteries included, this is a bit of a negative. Also, no tools are included - you will need a set of jewellers screwdrivers, and I used a Stanley knife and some emery paper for smoothing off nobs and bobbles from the plastic. All the parts required were present and correct. All in all a great toy - several hours of fun building it and many more hours of fun playing with it later.5 stars.

What a cool little robot.Great for any child, with help from an adult, to assemble Tibo the robot and discover its amazing functions. This robot detects a child and follows their movements. Whoa!!!!!!When set to the explorer mode, the robot wanders around the room and avoids obstacles, using its six limbs for 360° movement. Brilliant. It works off batteries which unfortunately are not included.A brilliant little interactive toy.Love it.

This states ages 8 and above, but this absolutely requires adult supervision with assembly. This is a brilliant and (not overly for adults, thankfully) complex "toy" which challenges your child in the setup and running of it. Robots are vogue at the moment and Tibo is an excellent entry into the market, with different configurable modes, robust manufacture, easy to follow instructions, and an engaging construction and format.

This is a super item that broadens and encourages a lot of key skills. The components are quite robust but mainly plastic. Knowing how boys play I think any 'Robot Wars' or 'Demolition Derby' style games should be discouraged as this is unlikely to be able to shoulder too much damage. Instructions are clear. colourful and detailed. but I think you will need adult involvement to get the best out of this toy.

This is great fun for all ages to build and to play with. I gave this to my 9 year old nephew and his 31 year old dad to play with and they loved it, in fact moreso the adult! It is a little bit tricky in parts so advisable that an adult is on hand and the plastic shell is a little delicate in places but it’s an ideal gift for all kids, young and old.

Tibo takes quite a time to build, but I like that bonding time,he feels more "yours" when you've built him from scratch. Once built,he will need 4 AAA batteries, then he will follow you around or explore on his own; he is really cute! Please note he is for children 8 years and over,he is a bit fragile for younger hands, but he is loads of fun.
