We've had other crystal sets before but the possibilities of this one are bigger than most; it contains a satisfying amount of kit from Petri dishes, to pipettes, 6 different chemicals and all the things you need as an 8 year old + doing science with an adult - this is not a toy and some of the chemicals could be dangerous if not used properly. This is made clear in the very comprehensive instructions. As far as the contents went my kids were particularly impressed by the safety glasses - kid sized - and the very good magnifying glass. Everything is of good quality and sure to please the budding scientist. What I like about the instructions is that it takes you through the stages of growingcrystals from making a saturated solution to more ambitious experiments like making a fake geode in an egg shell and even fluorescent crystals. It's a bit of a shame that the packaging features a boy "Léo" - and that the only female in the booklet appears to be the parent helper. This didn't put my kids off particularly but is worth mentioning - in my experience girls are just as interested in Science as boys and rightly so - it would be nice to see this reflected in sets like this in a more obvious way. The instructions too could do with not being in multiple languages in the same booklet..It's in 6 European languages which is a bit much really! That said the English part is clear and easy to follow. You can use a microwave or saucepan to heat water for these experiments. Crystals take a while to grow, but that is all part of the fun here. Bar the slightly non equal ops packaging (not due to it being a French set I'm sure), and the slightly dense instruction booklet, this is a well designed and accessible lab - even if the name of it does make me think "Breaking Bad" I would happily recommend it - something I'd be likely to buy as a gift, this is a good set.

First of all, Amazon appears to be the cheapest place to buy this kit, it's double if you buy from a well known catalogue shop!We have bought other kids laboratory kits such as the ones where you make your own perfume and bath fizzers and play with/make slime, and we've had mostly positive experiences, so we were looking forward to trying this.I must stress that this is not a toy and the manufacturers 8+yr age limit is there for a reason. The child should also be supervised by an adult when using this kit. The instructions make this clear though.Talking about the instructions, they are very good. Nice and clear so my daughter was able to follow them herself which added to the 'budding scientist experience '!They look a bit scary at first before you realize that there are various foreign language versions in the booklet. We were very impressed with the quality of the parts which include child sized safety goggles, pipettes, tweezers, petri dishes, magnifying glass and of course the chemicals (salt derivatives). It's not an immediate reward type toy, as the crystals take time to grow after you make up the warm solution (using a saucepan or microwave )however watching them form is part of the fun!The kit allow you to make 15 crystals of different colours including neon, so plenty of fun to be had, we thoroughly enjoyed it. I would definitely buy again as it would make a great present for young relatives and I know I'm giving a good quality gift, I can highly recommend it.

No not that kind of crystal lab! Wanna be Walter Whites need to look elsewhere! This is a great gift for children aged 8 and over who are budding scientists and would be interested in learning about crystals! Its a crystal growing kit from France (hence the "Cristaux") - with instructions in French, English, German, Dutch and loads of other languages. The kit comes with everything you need including 2 plastic beakers, lab goggles, 7 petri dishes and all the other bits and bobs. The instruction booklet is nice and clear with colour pictures and progresses from quick and easy crystal growing experiments to multi-step experiments (like the glow in the dark crystals). The booklet also has lots of interesting facts about crystals you can explore with your child including where to find crystals in the home (salt and sugar) and how crystals form in nature, etc. The kit comes with 6 powders that can make a variety of crystals. It does require adult help and supervision at all times but I think this is an excellent educational gift. Should keep your young Einstein busy for weeks.

My daughter loves science and is always wanting to do experiments of some kind. We've done crystal growing before but this is a much more comprehensive set than we've used in the past so it has the potential to keep her busy for longer. As with most scientific kits, you can't just walk away and let a child get on with it. There can be a good deal of parental supervision involved. I normally get her to read the instructions out loud which is good reading practice and then we get on.The instructions were OK but a bit daunting to follow and there are different experiments from simple to more complicated.Making crystals can be fun but the worst part is the waiting because it can take days before you see finished results. For kids who are terribly impatient, this would probably bore them silly. My daughter likes to wait and see what happens - a bit like with growing plants.I think it's a pretty good set and contains all you need. The instructions could be better and I'd prefer something to watch so you can see an actual demonstration - just like you would at school.

My eight-year-old daughter has really enjoyed using this crystal lab set over the past week. She really has shown an interest in science at school and this really goes quite a bit further (understandably) than school is able to provide for a class of thirty children. The instructions are well written and after reading them together we set about becoming scientists. Most of th etasks can be wholly complted by children of a suitable age (8+) but close supervision is needed. The supplied kit is very well made and my daughter especially liked the goggles(!). As another reviewer has mentioned some of the chemicals are quite capable of leaving pretty much permanent stains, so old clothes,an apron and a suitable surface are essential.Crystal growing is a slowish process and after I'd explained this to my daughter she seemed quite happy. I rather like the 'no instant gratification' that seem to surround so many of children's toys.Overall we are very pleased with this hands-on science based kit.

This is a set for growing crystals. It contains several small bottles of brightly coloured inorganic salts for making equally brightly coloured crystals. It also contains some detailed instructions, some safety specs and some gloves. Essentially you have to dissolve as much salt as you can into hot water and let it cool to start growing crystals, with a seed in place pleasing and big crystals can be grown. We have only done a few experiments so far but my daughters have found it a lot of fun and been very keen to learn, so although most of the value is in the fun there is some educational value as well. The crystals are grown in little petri dishes and it makes the girls think they are doing some real chemistry, which is great. All in all it has been a lot of fun and I think for me the brightness of the colours and the beauty of the crystals makes it a winner, particularly for girls.

Customer service from oddballs has been amazing! A small issue that was fixed within 24 hours, especially during a pandemic is more than I could have asked for. This was a birthday present for my child with autism and it kept his attention brilliantly. Will definitely be buying from these again, great customer service goes such a long way.

Great kit to keep kids busy especially those into magic, crystals and alchemy. There are so many different sets of crystals that can be grown using this kit, so many different colors and shapes. And all the necessary accessories are there.

Quite a lot of fun but it's strictly 8+ As it's quite an extensive kit- great fun and the kids loved seeing the crystals grow- a good and entertaining well equipped set -
