Ignore the ridiculous 1 star review above, obviously written by the kind of childish 'charge and shoot' gamer that this is NOT aimed at. This game is superb. If you liked ROAD TO HILL 30 then you'll know what you're getting - only this is better! It's a sequel (kind of) and follows the exploits of 'Red' Hartsock, one of Baker's squad from the first game, and the first few missions cleverly tie in with the previous story. After that though it's all new territory and it's a lot more difficult than it's predecessor. The main reason for this is that the combat is set mostly in towns and villages, which provide far more opportunities for tactical decisions and manoevering (on both sides!),and the Germans are also a lot smarter than before. In RTH30 they tended to stay put, taking the odd pot shot at you, until they were flanked and killed. Not this time. They attack, change position, and try and flank YOU, and fall back to new cover if you start getting the upper hand. They're also better armed and better shots than they were before too! The game is very atmospheric, the sound being particularly impressive, invoking genuine fright at the sound of an approaching tank or machine gun nest opening fire at you. A new addition is the feared German .88 artillery piece which you seriously do not want to be on the receiving end of when it fires. There's a pretty desperate feel to the fighting as you don't get much time to think and plan but this makes the gameplay pretty exciting and very satisfying when you finally scrape through to the next level to find out what happens to you and your squad next.Your squad are excellent, as before, with their different faces and voices, and can easily be ordered about but generally take care of themselves. Some of their comments and reactions during the game are hilarious and you really don't want to lose any of them. The cutscenes between levels are good as Hartsock is inteviewed after the events and tells the story in flashback, and you can see him shifting uncomfortably in his seat describing leaving a dead comrade in the plane. All in all, this is more than just a game, it's a story you participate in. Graphics, sound and gameplay are all fantastic and anyone who has read about the 101st in Normandy will realise just how much time, research, care, and hard work has gone into creating this game.Thankyou Gearbox Software, Holland and Bastogne next please...

First, lets get something straight, ok yes theres not health packs and this makes the games very difficult, but in the middle of a war, if you get shot in the arm, or leg, you're not going to go looking for a stupid white box with a red cross on it are you? NO!! Also the lack of health packs adds a new sense of fear and want of survival to the game, you don't want to get shot because if you do, you can't go running back to the last health pack you saw. Also I don't think you will find a better team based shooting game anywhere, this game will make you use every tactic in the book to try and outsmart and defeat your' dangerous foe. However no muckin' about with leaving them hidden while you pick the Nazis off,no, if you don't fire on them, they're going to come for you. This adds a further sense of urgency and the tense reality of war to the game. Funnily, you will find yourself, more often than not, putting yourself in danger for your' men, this is strange as although it is just a game, a strange "bond" (not sure if thats the appropriate word or not) forms, in the cut scenes of the first game I'm sure (if you owned the first one, which is also excellent) you felt bad that those perky wee soldiers bit the dust, the same effect is present in this game. You will find your' men extremely handy in combat situations, as while you use your' fire team to give covering fire with their more accurate and powerful weapons, your' fire team can move in on the enemy and mow 'em down with their automatic close combat machine guns and rifles. All together with yours and the enemies grenaded exploding, sending dirt flying 20 feet into the air, it makes quite a hectic and exciting environment. But your' team aren't the only good thing in this game, the authentic weapons and completely original fighting system involved (the surpression meter and ability to outflank the enemy) make for an incredible and ensnaring game that will leave you breathless. If you were disappointed with Medal Of Honor (which I personally was... very) BUY THIS GAME!!!! I'm pretty sure they'll make another after this, but if you don't own the first one, buy that two as they slot in perfectly together.WARNING! Side effects of playing this game may include a complete addiction to the Brothers In Arms games and never being satisfied with another FPS again

Earned in blood is most definetly the most realistic, and most enjoyable ww2 game ever created. I have played medal of honour rising sun, and frontline. I have played call of duty 3 also. They are, admittidly, both decent games, but neither comes close to Earned in blood. The realism is incredibe. Blood spurts from enemies in a beleivable manner, and when you are hit, blood will spray across the screen from the direction of the shot. Mortar fire that doesn't kill you can knock you down, cue a 'ringing in the ears sound'.The german AI is perfect. The enemy squads move to counteract your moves. They are intelligent and agressive, but not unbeatable. You will have to use a sreies of tactics to eradicate them. You must:Find them- carefully move into enemy terrotory, avoiding any open spaces where you are voulnerable. Then, after locating them, get you and your squads behind cover.Fix them- The handy supression indicators, which can be turned off and on, show you how well you are supressing your enemy. If you use your self, and your squads, and put enough fire on the enemy, they will be unable to return fire.Flank them- with your assult squad, move around the enemies postition, and move in to fnish them. The skirmish mode is also a welcome and very fun alternative to playing the story missions. You can choose to play objective, ie- do a mission, or defence, where you have to hold out against hoardes of enemies. Splitscreen i also fantastic, boh co-op, and versus. The weapons and weapon sounds are very Authentic, both for American nd German. The missions are detailed, and the Charctor are origianal and likeable. The main charactor, Joe Hartsock, i very interesting, with a great personality, which is unveiled in the stunning cutscenes that form an incredible story, and a PHENOMENAL game. A must buy, especially at these prices. Buy it- you will not regret it, or forget it when you eventually complete it.P.S- if you found my reveiw helpful, plese recognise it by choosing yes when it says- did you find this reveiw helpful? Ta- ta.

The first thing you have to understand about this game is that it's no fast paced shooter like halo. Realism is the order of the day - but that doesn't necessarily mean you don't feel immersed. On the contrary, this game(with the original large controller) is easily as engaging as halo. The realism just sucks you in...from the hyper-accurate weapon sounds(made from live recordings of the original weapons) to the fact that you have to shoulder the weapon to get more accuracy. Just pointing the cross hairs on a target doesn't mean a kill with every weapon. So much is taken into account when firing a weapon - the stopping power of the ammunition you use, whether the weapon is heavy and therefore is more prone to breathing wobble(kneeling here helps), to how rapid your rate of fire is (especially on semi-auto weapons). Even the'dispergence' of each weapon is taken into account. This is why some reviewers here are complaining about not being able to kill enemies, when in reality it's the natural variance in accuracy of the different weapon types. Plus the fact you may be hitting them just not killing them (as is evidenced by the cries of 'I'm hit' by GI's when you play a german). In fact, all you need to do to be adept at this game is just think how a weapon/situation would really be like in real life. Do this and you'll find the game responds in the same way. (for example, waiting for your breathing to subside when firing the M1 garand, or only tapping out short bursts with the thompson M1 sub machine gun).My only caveats are that you have to get hold of one of the original large controllers. They add so much to the experience and realism that even with my eyes closed and no volume, I can tell which weapon I'm firing. Also the frame rate is noticable sometimes....which is a consequence of this game pushing the limits of the original xbox.If you ever watched and enjoyed spielbergs 'band of brothers' series on tv, then you'll love this game.

SUMMERY:-Great graphics Great sound AI annoyingly hard to kill but still great funREVEIWi brought the origonal brothers in arms road to hill 30, and loved it, i loved it so much i completed it 3 times.so i was extremly pleased to see that gearbox was launching a sequal brothers in arms earned in blood.so lets start with graphics, as per usuallal they were oustanding, there was the obvious little glitch, but everything works well, as you play the game you really do appreciate the work the game designers have done, you have building that once stood, then a morter shell blows half the wall off, trees moving in the wind and get blown down when artillart shells exploded next to them.so overall i work score graphics 4*then we come on to sound, well words can not explain the feel you get when this game is hooked up with a 5.1 surroud sound sysem. it seems that every little noise has been faithfully recreated, from the mg42 machine gun, to the Bar, you really feel that the war is in your living room and that your men are your friends.now we get to the part that has destroyed what was a very good game the AI.Now im not one to moan about how hard a opponent is to beat so i wont, but im affraid that the game has one big flaw, and that is when you are attacking a solider, it can take 18+ bullets for one man, at one point i emptied a sg 44 clip (30 rounds) in to a soliders chest and he killed me now come on after playing a few levels like this it can really get on your nervers, if the AI changed this would have got 5*

With out a shadow of doubt this is the finest combat simulation game ever produced. The game 'feels right' and like the real thing if you get hit you stay hit-there's no wandering off to find a little get well box that you can suck on!!I have personally used the M1 Garand, BAR, Thompson, Colt .45 auto pistol, German K98 Mauser and can assure you that is how they sound- even the way they 'kick' has been accurately programmed into the controller. You DON'T always hit what you are aiming at- in fact most people miss most of the time. In combat you shake, breathe hard and get blurred vision- most of the time you can't see what's going on and you're in a panic trying to stay in one piece.I playedthis game in front of my father who had served in the Korean war and he was amazed at how close to reality the play was. The 4F's is what was taught- and still is.It has a grainy quality to the graphics that is like a newsreel- it's graphics aren't over perfect-then I'm not bothered if I can't count every hair on someones head!!If you want a game that you can walk through in an hour DON'T waste your money- go and buy MOH or halo or some such fantasy. If you want something that will actually test your abilities put this on the top level and see what happens. To sum up- great accuracy-great visuals- some of the buildings actually exist in real life- and a fantastic involving game play.If only Hells Highway was as good- oh well you can't have it all.

I was really looking forward to tearing this disc out of its box and getting chin deep in some action for a weekend. Wifes out, Doors locked Pizza menu by my side and curtains shut.......perfect!The sound ang Graphics imerge you in the mind of the creator when this game was being designed, you can almost smell the dank uniform you have on! Ambient sounds give you the impression your there and you do feel fear with every turn of a corner. Then there they are...the Germans, they havent seen you...you take aim through your scope......bang! ahem!......bang! "it was a head shot and a chest shot!" Now they know where you are, you are firing and no ones getting killed.Time to look around at your fellow soldiers and look for the one that swapped your live rounds for blanks. You can stand in a good place, have a great shot, and empty 5 clips on the same guy and still he keeps bobing up and firing at you.....AND HITTING YOU! what in gods name were they thinking when they wrote that in..."Lets make the Germans bullet proof"?A game with so much potential and floored by this one teeny thing. If you have enjoyed the Medal of honour games......don't buy this you will be truely upset that you cannot enjoy the game, sound and graphics to it fullest.

Wow. Forget all those killjoys who reckon this isn't different enough to BiA1- this is VERY different. Yep, graphics similar, yep storyline similar and, yep, basic gameplay mechanics identical. HOWEVER, the all new reactive enemy AI turned what I thought was a dull, tedious original into an epic and exciting sequel. With the first one it always felt like I was just moving on until I found a load of Germans, then we took them out and moved on. At first it was kind of fun, but eventually the whole Four-F thing became very samey and what originally seemd to be tactical play revealed itself to be nothing of the sort. NOW those pesky Germans just won't sit still long enough to let you pull off thoughtless flanking. They'll move back, shift position, retreat or even charge, and that's damn scary when it happens. Gun battles can rage for ages as both sides shift around and try and gain the upper-hand. Last night I finished a long and hard fought battle, winning with only myself and a smidgen of energy, exhausted but victorious. This is a wondeful, tactical, thoughtful jet-engine of a title, and I can't recommend it highly enough. Best title of the year for me, no doubts at all.

Is it worth it?YES!Earned in Blood picks up on were the original BIA left off, right after the 101st took Carentan. We're now Red from Baker's old squad, the storyline following his recollections as he talks with an Army historian.Gamers expecting more of the same will not be dissapointed, as the same level of quality in graphics and sound still stands (along with the very-criticized undying squad), the scripted missions still happen in the same way every time we restart (which can become frustrating on levels higher than Regular), and the weapons haven't change (naturally). So, what's new? Aside from the storyline and new levels, the programmers added a skirmish option to multiplayer, allowing splitscreen play on several preset scenarios with the option of playing either US or German, and yes, the squad is present. A very welcome feature for those of us that don't want (or can't) go online, and which extends the replay value of the game.In conclusion, don't expect something new, more of the same accurate simulation of "being there with the boys", with challenging tactical problems.

i first got the demo of this game and i was hooked. I played for 5 hours on the same level on different levels of differculty. After this i simply had to buy the game and it was even better. I dont have live so i look for great single player games like half life. This was something else. The realism is unbeleivable and spent hours at a time on this game trying to get it right, killing my enemies and still keeping my men.I was a big fan of republic commando because i like controlling the squad. This batters that out of the park, the variation is really good. I've played on a number of war games like the new call of duty 2 but i had far more fun.If you're just a casual gamer who likes to occasionly play games then this is not for u but if you're the sort of person who likes to get engrossed in a game and play on it for hours then i cannot find a better game for u.

I found this game absolutely fantastic. The game combines challenging tactical problem solving, first person shooter action all in solid, convincing Band of Brothers / Saving Private Ryan cinematic style. The gameplay is easy and addictive. They've really done their homework and the history, weapons, hardware and uniforms are convincing. The sound is fantastic too - for best effect plug the xbox into your amp and get surround sound. Then get a big screen TV and bliss out. This is not a simple minded 1P shooter. The game wants you to act tactically if you are to win, you can't just blaze through the middle. I can't explain why there is a negative review for this game, possibly the other user was looking for a simpler gameplay?!! Perhaps they got the wrong CD in the box? Makes no sense. This is an epic. Can't wait for the 360 version - goodbye world!!!

Great, great, great, fantastic, awesome, spectacular and great. All these words describe this game. Some complain because it isn't much different from Road to Hill 30. That is RIDICULOUS. RTH30 was fantastic, how could you not want more of the same? The enemies are also significantly more mobile, making the game even more realistic and forcing you to a think through your tactics a lot more than in the first game. The difficulty people are having with headshots is probably up to being frustrated at missing, but sometimes enemies move just before you pull the trigger, and sometimes there may be the odd bug.LOOK AT THE PRICE! BUY NOW!

... only spoiled by a small thing - the AI characters always being in the same place. BiA Road to Hll 30 was just awesome. Blew me away, and this has the added bonus of the "skirmish" levels that have kept me entertained since completing it. But why the AI doesn't have a little more creativity i don't know. So much attention to detail in the graphics and 1stP shooting, let down by the fact that a restart takes you straight into the same battle. If you get addicted to games, beware this one. It will take over your life as you get determined to complete it in "veteran" and prove you would have made a great WWII soldier!

9.5.2006

If you have played the first "Brothers..." title and enjoyed it then you really do need to invest in this one too! The scenery, tactics, gameplay and atmospherics have been improved in this version. Altogether a very worthy follow up that has improved on the first title. The controls are not overly technical, Its not always easy to kill the enemy and its easy to get yourself killed in some of the scenarios if your not carefull. this is no stand up with a machine gun and keep firing game! But it truly is awesome.Enough said just buy it!!
