I am a new small business starter. After approaching a fair few printers for labels for my products, the costs were unaffordable. After reading up on home label machines, the Brother QL-500 stood out from the Dymo and other machines on the market. It prints any size, was fuss-free to install on my MAC (or PC), the software that came with it was old but it took me no time to install the latest version for free from the net. I got printing in just minutes after opening the box. The top reason I went for this printer was the fact that I will never have to buy ink for my label printing again! It uses no ink as the labels do all the work! The labels are a little more expensive than simple inkjet or laserjet Avery for instance, but what you save in ink you can more than make up in labels! This little printer is the perfect size for any desks. It allows printing of any size labels, with options of oval or circle borders or lovely frames. The font options are almost limitless! It also comes with its onboard little guillotine cutter for single labels. The label rolls are easy to replace with just a lift and slot action. As well as the regular white label rolls, Brother do a clear, yellow and salmon colour label rolls. I hope Brother bring out lots of other colours to create brighter labels as this lovely printer prints only in black so brighter rolls would be welcomed for more colourful projects.Lovely printer - if only all things in life could be as simple as the Brother QL-500.Read full review...

Having used this model at work and loved it I bought my own! This is the easiest handiest form of labeling you could imagine, just pop the roll in, tuck the paper in the slot and its all ready to use once you have installed the software using the disc provided. . Labels come in different sizes, I like the continuous tape type as you can make the label as long or as short at you like. Ideal for addressing envelopes, scrapbooking, homework, all sorts of things. Once installed on your computer you can import pictures at will from file or internet , you can add clip art from file, frames etc. I cant speak highly enough of this machine. The only down side I have found and its a very small one is that if you command it to print 1 label you can cut it off very neatly with the built in blade..If you tell it to do more, for example 10 it is better to let it print the 10 then hand cut with scissors . If you try and cut after each one it knocks it out of kilter and you end up with half labels. Did I mention the big plus with this machine? It is FAST!Read full review...

I wanted a nice simple printer that would do "what it said on the tin" and this was perfect. Firstly its very easy to set up two leads to connect and the roll of paper just drops in and feeds through one slot. Once connected the software auto loads and you can have up and running within a few minutes. For me there are many more plus points firstly its size you can plug it into the lap top use and then put away, no messing about with line ups and having to complete a sheet of A4 for just one label at a time then press the cutter and your done. This maybe not aimed at a business printing thousand of repeat labels but for the home user its ideal,as for running costs only time will tell but with no expensive toners to replace that has to be a bonus, for me the Brother QL-500 is the perfect Label PrinterRead full review...

Took me a while to get to grips with it,basic instructions could be a bit more comprehensive for those of us who are 50+ or not exactly computer literate, but that said now I have got it doing what it was bought for I am pleased with my purchase. It does the job well is'nt noisy takes up very little space and saves me a lot of time in comparison to my previous arrangement, label rolls are reasonably priced the print is clear and sharp you don't need to buy ink and the labels stick to anything I've attempted to stick them on,I would recommend this little thermal printer to anyone who has a need for this type of product, you will find all sorts of other uses once you have one.

A very effective label printer with good software and a wide selection of label sizes. Perfect for Postage Labels, small drawer labels, Tag labels, etc. Labels come on rolls which are easy to swop and come in Yellow for warning labels as well. Like any thermal printer, the labels will fade if exposed to strong sunlight for extended periods but fine for most applications. It is easy to change Font, letter size and layout with the included software. Labels can be printed with vertical or horizontal text too. Printer is very compact so can be sited on a desk or shelf. Connects to PC via USB cable.

Bought this on a whim as it was something I'd been looking into for the future - then saw this at half price. So quick and easy to set up, and can't wait to put it through its paces properly. I've already saved some templates, and will be printing postage labels, but can't wait to try out the different size stickers for other uses too. This is definitely going to get a lot of use!Only time will tell on its durability, but for the price, I'm already impressed

This printer was a very quick to install and set up.So simple to work and use and the finished article is professional. This is a must have for anyone who sends items on the eBay. The small Labels are a god-sent for re-labelling items with a box. Plus you can bar code the item in the address; to let you know what this is in the packet, after packing by using a bar code reader, this has been the best investment I have made as an eBay user.

This printer is so easy to use, you'll be used to it within 5 minutes! I ordered this to print labels for envelopes and the handy manual cut-off lever makes it pleasure to use. The print is thermal so no chance of rain ruining the address if your envelope gets delivered on a wet day - therefore saves you extra labour sticking some clear tape over the label. All in all a time saving and more professional way to print labels.

What can I say other than it does everything you would expect and far more! The software suite is good and user friendly too. Only downside, and I'm being super picky now is that you have to manually guillotine each label before printing the next, unless you use scissors of course. I think that more expensive models will cut each one as it's printed. But if this isn't a hardship for you, you can't go wrong with this product.

This label printer was bought for letter and parcel labeling. You are restricted in label width to 62mm but any length if you use continuous label tape. The print quality is excellent and you can print items drawn in Word Draw. The automated cutter version is very good but a lot more expensive. The manual label cut lever works very well. You will not be disappointed with this printer.

There is an easy address book from which you can choose who to print for and the editing of the entries is very easy too.The quality of the end result is excellent and it is printed using heat on special label paper so there is no ink or toner to ruin out. Each individual label is easily extracted from the printer with a very efficient built-in guillotine action.

10.6.2014

The printer is excellent takes a variety of sizes of label and prints clearly. I use a mac so this may not apply to a PC but the software provided is not user friendly, hence my low score on features. I have purchased Labels & Addresses from the Apple store which works well with the printer and even with this addition it remains very good value.

Plug it into a USB socket on your computer, install the software, drop in the labels and away you go. It is the perfect product for producing self adhesive labels quickly and efficiently, and is tremendous value for money. I managed to cut & paste my address files into the Brother software, saving time & effort. Tremendous piece of kit.

Easy set up-install print driver before connecting to computer as recommended. Install printer label software- start printing. Its not brain surgery and you don't need 160+ IQ. All latest drivers available online from Brother website. Easy to follow instructions- that's for windows 10. Great little label printer at a great price.

I am bewildered by some reviews complaining that this printer is hard to set up. It is a piece of cake! I now have 3 attached to my PC, each filled with different size labels and they all perform faultlessly. Extremely highly recommended - its a lot less bother with a Brother (or was that an ad for a lawnmower)?
