My machine had broken after 25 years. The Brother AE1700 is a lovely. It's easy to set up, even for a novice. It has a bright light, & the stitching is brilliant. It is very lightweight. I like the design. It comes with a basic cover, a few bobbins & some feet for different stitches. The foot pedal is easy to use. The only issue, was the power/foot pedal cable is a bit short. I usually sew on my breakfast bar, & this was to high for the wire, soI put it on a box. All round super sewing machine.

Spent ages trying to choose a new sewing machine - my old one came out of the ark so I wasn't too sure what i should be looking for or what I actually needed.I'm very happy with my choice - a good basic machine with just enough extras to make a professional job without getting too complicated - easy to set up and get going and tackled net curtains without snagging or bunching up.The only negative is that the knob that raises the foot seems awkwardly placed to me and is also a bit flimsy

Was a little sceptical about buying a portable machine having been used to using an industrial sewing machine for over 25 years but I couldn't be more happy with this machine it's light weight very easy to set up and runs very smoothly and didn't cost an arm and a leg lol. I've sewn velcro on our gazebo side aswel as tabs on the tops, sewn inside pockets on a fleece jacket and altered several pairs of jeans, very impressed with this machine so happy I let my husband talk me into getting it

Good price for this easy to use sewing machine. So far used it on jeans, velvet, silk, wool and suede fabrics and I didn't have any problems. All you need is some good quality needles and threads if you want to go through multi layers of fabric. I have used professional sewing machines before but I just wanted an easy lightweight one and this is perfect. Only down side the back stitch lever doesn't block and you need to keep it pushed down but it has a good fabric feed so not a big problem.

I bought this machine as I wanted to start making bits and bobs from scratch and just have fun learning how to do it all. I think it's been great! The DVD is a real help and makes setting up easy, literally was up and running within minutes. The only thing I've found a bit temperamental is the picking your stitch wheel, sometimes it doesn't really align with the stitch you think you have but I just a practice on a scrap bit first and it's fine. Love this machine and suits me.

This machine isn't particularly fancy but what it does it does really well. It is quiet and light to carry around and I have already made five pairs of curtains without it putting a stitch wrong. I have four more pairs to make and I'm actually looking forward to sewing again rather than dreading wrestling with my old clunky machine. I would thoroughly recommend this machine. It's simple to use and comes with comprehensive instructions and a 'quick start' guide for the basics.

Bought for my wife. She is a hobby sewer who has dyslexia. This can make using machines difficult. She has had 2 machines previously, both Singer.The thing that has impressed us both with this machine is the clear, user friendly instructions in multiple formats.Also the tension, stitch selection etc is very easy to adjust.She has done more adventurous sewing in the weeks since getting this machine than she has done in years of using other machines.

Excellent value machine which so far has worked well. obviously not as substantial as a much more expensive one but for most basic sewing will do enough for most people . if I did more sewing I might have gone for one that had a needle threader and auto bobbin but neither of these are a problem . Tension easy to adjust and plenty of stitches . Am very happy with this machine as it serves my purpose , is pleasant and easy to use and good value .

I was a little nervous using this sewing machine for the first time, having an old singer that was always knotting the stitches and couldn't get to work, so decided on this Brother after looking at the reviews. I watched the DVD first and found it very easy to set up, the loading of the bobbin was very easy and I got it to work. Haven't used all the different features yet. Thought it was a good price, I went for the middle priced one.

Bought this to make masks for Covid19. Good value for money, sturdy, amazingly easy to set up with pictured instructions on the machine itself, lots of features for different sewing projects, comes with built-in light so you can better see what you're doing, great design, and super quick to use. Only con is my thread sometimes gets stuck in the bobbin compartment - but that may even be my fault or the type of thread I use.

Having previously purchased a Singer Machine which after a few uses went faulty I returned this machine to the Argos Store in Honiton where a very pleasant and helpful assistant named Holly agreed to exchange the broken machine to a Brother machine. I found her advice so helpful and am really pleased that I changed to a Brother machine. As a novice machinist I find this machine to be of excellent quality and very easy to use.

Pleased with my purchase. After not having used a sewing machine for over30 years I was very pleased that the instructions to fill the bobbin and thread the machine were straightforward and easy. I found that it sewed perfectly and had no trouble sewing seams on denim. I decided to buy the machine because I was fed up of sewing everything by hand. I may try and make some curtains soon. Good value for money.

This machine was very easy to use, once i managed to get the bobbin the right way round !. I managed to make a pair of curtains in a day with no problems. The only thing I did find was the machine is much lighter to use than my old one, so I had to make sure I kept the material more stable.It would also be better with a more substantial cover for protection and to keep dust free.But overall good so far.

Brother AE1700 sewing machine. I'm a complete beginner so choosing the right one was important and a bit overwhelming due to the vast amount of choices available. I didn't want one that was too complicated and advanced but would still provide me with everything I needed it for. I'm so glad I chose this one. It's perfect! Easy to set up and use, sews beautifully and looks lovely at a great price.
