This was a cheap(ish) afterthought for our son's wooden train set which is a mixture of Thomas, BigJigs, John Lewis, Brio, and random bits off Amazon. It's a nice little addition - not that loud, but still loud enough that he calls "ding, ding!" in imitation when the train goes past it. And it doesn't take up a ton of room or money like some other train set accessories. Some people have noted that it only works with trains/carriages that have the metal wheel hubs. This is true, however a surprising number of trains do have these, including quite a few of the cheap generic brands. In our son's set, it works with everything except his Thomas pieces.

This item is a great addition to anyones brio train collection. The idea of this bell is that it is to ring everytime a train goes past. It doesn't always work but my son is none the wiser and loves playing with it. The bell sound isn't to loud either so it does not get to annoying if you are the one listening but not playing with it!I paid under 10£ for this item and I would say it is definitely worth the money paid. It loses a star from me because it is a lot smaller than I expected it to be. I have attached a photo of it next to the box it arrived in.I would recommend this item.

An excellent addition to a train set. Although other reviews state that you can only use it with a Brio set this is not entirely true. I bought this for my 2 year old grandson who has Big Jigs battery powered trains. Although the bell does not work when just a train goes past, by attaching any Brio carriage to the train, it works very well. There are several Brio carriages that are interesting additions to the train set (my favorites are the revolving cement mixer and the swaying coal wagon!)and are compatable with makes such as Big Jigs.

I've bought quite a few BRIO sets for my son, this has been a surprising addition. Most other items that add interest require batteries - the complete BRIO set has chewed through quite a lot, mainly from the engines. This little item doesn't cost that much (compared to other BRIO accessories) but is a great little addition, particularly if you can run a longer train (3+ carriages). The bell is loud enough for me, I can only imagine the bell is hard to hear (as reported in other reviews) if you generally have high back ground noise.

This is a cute little bell signal that gives a couple of little dings with each Brio carriage that passes. It works via a simple plastic mechanism that the wheels run over. Some reviewers are a bit negative about it - they're taking an adult view of it and expecting far too much. Considering that it doesn't have complicated springs and is non-battery and relying on the very low weight of the passing carriages and a bit of magnetism to work the mechanism, you are not going to get a howling trill out of it! I think it's charming.

my son was very excited with this as he is train mad!! the bell is quite quiet but i can only see that as a positive :0) it is loud enough to hear though! we also have a lot of different makes of trains but most do have the metal on the wheel so the bell works by itself but you can 'ping' it yourself if you need to! not exactly cheap with the postage cost but i think it was reasonable considering how expensive some brio pieces can be!!overall a success in our house and i would recommend it to a friend :0)

A little bell tinkles as the train goes past. Just loud enough to remind your kid where the battery powered train is on the track... just incase he is getting carried away with some other feature on the tracks. A great little addition to a train set. Noise, makes the train set come alive. Don't expect to it to be a loud noise or have any grand technical features, this is a simple/ no battery/no fuss design.

I abolutely LOVE this. What can I say, its everything I would expect from this kind of toys and Brio. The sound of it (cling or ding) could be a bit sharper if I would have to find something bad, but works as expected when you pass the train in front of it it starts ringing due to magnet that comes close to metal parts of the train wheel moving a little hammerlike structure inside the bell.

The Brio Rail Magnetic Bell Signal was an instant hit with my 2 year 10 month old nephew and he wanted to play with the train tracks straight away. He and his 4 year old brother loved it and have continued to play with it. It is good quality and the bell rings when the Brio battery operated and manual trains go past it. The bell has a good level of sound. A successful addition to the set.

Bought this cheaper from ELC, which is quite a surprise! However, it's a tad disappointing. Yes it does go 'ding' when trains pass by, but the 'ding' is more of a tinkling, it's quite quiet to the point when I wondered if it was actually working. Nice little piece but a bit of a let down; however, my two little ones, 1 and 3 years old, seem to enjoy it so that's all that really matters.

Not a WOW piece but adds real interest to a simple train track layout. We place it alongside a destination point to alert passengers. Nice bright sounding bell. It is small but the mechanism is clever and works well. Good conversation piece on magnetism ie "why doesn't it ring when my toy cars drive past it?" My 3 yr old enjoys testing random small vehicles. Glad I bought it.

Excellent value for money. This simple item has gone into my three year old grandson's train set and made a huge difference. Brio is hugely expensive, but this is a tiny piece and sensibly priced, while making a significant addition to the set. Mostly we buy the track pieces made my other companies, but this genuine Brio piece is compatible.

This is a fab item from brio and so great that it doesn't require batteries!!!... As others have mentioned it's not overly loud but for me this is a real plus... so many toys are too loud... it's a lovely little tinkle as the trains go past... it's not too expensive and my toddler has enjoyed playing with it loads.

Bought this to go on a non brio train track as was told it would fit. It does fit perfectly and a nice addition to the track, it does work when the train goes past and is well made my only criticism is it is not a very loud bell and would have more of an effect if it was louder, still a welcome addition though.

It is small but a lot of fun, my sons keep taking turns in running their trains past it over and over again! I didn't think one little feature in their massive railway structure could be so exciting but they obviously love it too.Would recommend it to all railway fans, big and little!
