The Breville One cup resembles a coffee pod machine and has the same footprint due to the water spout and drip tray. It is a sleek unit with a decent amount of brightwork and a pleasant blue hue to the clear water container and top switch when boiling. As the name suggests, it dispenses one cup (8 fl oz) of boiling water in 36 seconds and automatically shuts off. This is fast and obviously saves energy but bear in mind that the process has to be repeated for each cup of water that is required. The amount of water dispersed is also not variable so a favourite small cup may need to be replaced. Fortunately, any spillage goes into the drip tray which can take a cup-full before it needs emptying. The boiling process sounds the same as a normal kettle until the last few seconds when the volume increases considerably and the spout spits and splutters a little. Filling the Breville is similar to a conventional kettle - lift the main body off the electrical base, push the button above the handle to open the lid and fill with water to the Max mark. The opening for filling could be bigger and requires any combi-tap to be set to 'stream' to avoid getting soaked. Usefully, however, the Breville will dispense 5 cups of water before it needs re-filling. This is an ideal product for those who want one beverage quickly. Those who make a number of drinks at the same time may not see the advantage of this dispenser.Read full review...

I have had a few of these water dispensers now, all brands, and this one was a last chance and then back to a kettle, but so glad I opted to try this one before giving up, all the other dispensers (all dearer aswell compared to this one) were useless the temperature went to luke warm or the switches broke, or measurments of the water went to a dribble, but this one... well what can i say.... a month on and still going stong, i have extrememly bad limescale and have to use a cheap water filter jug with this water dispenser but glad i do because this dispenser is still crystal clear (so what i may have to spend on water filters which is not much 1 water filter 4-5 wks) (and i am living in a terrible water scaled area)I am saving on descaler costs plus my time descaling the old water dispensers twice a month very pleased with this water dispenser and the price was great a must buy!!!!Only one niggle that would of got it 5 stars is if it was to hold a few more cup measurments, seem to be forever topping it up when have the large family round but 5 cups is ok when it's just two or three of you. still best one i've brought and works great just have to keep topping up but up side to that is it does stop the water sitting in the dispenser to long so must'nt grumble, go and buy what are you waiting for.....?

Bought for elderly parent who has problems lifting items. Removes the danger of lifting a boiling kettle and seperate jug with low minimum fill required means not too heavy or it can be completely filled and will just boil one 250ml lot at a time. Actually boils water rather than just heating with enough water for a full sized cup or small tea pot. Whole jug lights when operational (good for poor eyesight) & compact design fits smaller work surfaces. Is rather noisy when dispensing water (not a bad thing for the hard of hearing) but could be improved by adding some form of safety cut out if no recepticle placed underneath when activated. There is a tray to catch overspill/drips but completelyfills if you forget your cup & quite tricky to empty when full (especially when full of boiling water) even if you have full use of your hands. Also water gauge can be difficult to read as when not switched on as it condenses up if not fully filled.

I was worried it wouldnt serve the water hot enough, but after a test of boiling a normal kettle and pouring it immidiately into a cup with a thermometer in, it registered 89.2 degrees within 20 seconds, the Breville hot cup on the same test delivers 87.4 degrees within 20 seconds, both cups were at room temperature for each test, so for me its as hot as a kettle, and only takes 15 seconds to boil a cup full of water and automatically dispense it into a cup.Because it only runs its heating element for 15 seconds per cup, its obviously going to use less electricity, so good for saving you money and good for the environment too !The internal blue lighting seems a bit gimmicky and pointless, but may appeal to some peopleThe only negative that i can think of is that it only holds 5 cups worth of water, so i find i am filling it up 2-3 times a dayOther than that, its perfect and i would recommend it

I bought the Breville Hot Cup for it's sleek and modern design! It's better looking then the normal kettle from yesteryear and the colour crome and black! Very nice! It's great that you do not have to wait the 3 LONG minutes to boil THE BREVILLE HOT CUP like the old conventional kettle. It is slightly loud but I see this as a good thing as it makes you aware that within the 45 seconds it takes for the boiled water to come out you better have a cup ready and waiting on the tray provided! It comes with the spill tray underneath so you don't have to worry to much about making a spill on your worktop!I was so impressed by the product I bought a full range of Breville products to go with it,so it does not get loney! Now the room is blingy now! Many thanks to my favorite local Argos! When I go into the store the staff are so friendly it gives you great pleasure shopping there!

After our kettle decided to leek all over the place we went on line to buy another. We were very interested in the Breville VKJ142 one cup fast boil Dispenser kettle. As a fairly new fast boil concept, we were uncertain as to suitability for us. Well no worry, it does just what it says. It is very fast producing a mug (standard size) of steaming tea/coffee in seconds. With a steam discharge noise to tell you your brew is ready. Obviously, as it is only heating the one mug of water, at a time, makes it very economical to use.All in all, there are a couple of things it can't do that a larger kettle can.But for what the VKJ142 is intended it is very fast and very cheep to run and we would definitely recommend to anyone.

Fabulous machine and bought here at an excellent price. This is my third one and I've bought others for friends and family.I bought one when they were first launched and have absolutely loved it. Unfortunately we live in one of the hardest water areas in the country so no kettle lasts for very long and we were so pleased with it that I have now replaced that first one.I bought one for my daughter and have just bought two for friends as birthday gifts. I'd really recommend them to anyone. The machine is really quiet in use so I don't disturb anyone when I get up in the middle of the night and make a cuppa, and it's just so quick and easy.Beats any kettle hands down!!

I would highly recommend this item!!!I have suffered with arthritis for many years and find manipulation a real problem; This item has helped me so much, because the cup is placed on the stand under the nozzle and the water pours directly into your cup. So, by not having to lift heavy, boiling kettles, the risk of scalds and burns is reduced). The speed at which the water boils, is amazing! By-the-time I've put the tea-bag and sugar in the cup, the waters boiled and pouring...One 'down-side' though, it only makes one cup (approx 300mls) of hot water, so when guests arrive the process takes alittle longer...AN AMAZING PRODUCT, WORTHLY OF 5 STARS!!!!!!

This is a really good product, it's very quick and easy to use, the only issues that we have had is that in certain mugs it doesn't leave enough room for milk and the water doesn't stay as hot as it would if a kettle had of boiled it.I think a stop button would have been helpful so that the user could decide how much water was required, as if you are using this to boil water for cooking you have to use it a couple of times and throw out what isn't required which isn't great.I would recommend this to a friend but I would advise them to also keep their kettle for cooking, etc.

I could not make up my mind about this product at first particularly because i have read a lot of the reviews and some of the customers complained of the noise this product makes when despensing water, others complained that they've have to return a purchase and had it replaced and are still not happy.I loved the size and design so i concluded i will give it a go. But you know what? its one of the best purchases i ever made. This product is simply classis and my kids loves it to bits. The noise is not bad at all I will definately recommend this product to everyvery one.Aggie

The Breville Hot Cup kettle is the best kitchen item I have bought in a very long time.Best features it is quick and saves you money on your electric. Get up in morning put cup under with tea bag and within 20 seconds you have a piping hot cup of tea.The only critisisum about this product is that it is a little bit noisy while hot water is filling your cup, but hey I can live with that also the the part where you fill kettle could be a bit bigger. Best to use a jug to fill.On the whole I would recomend this product to all my friends and family. 10/10

As title tell you, this is the second of these I've purchased, which must mean I like it. Unfortunately, the first one did fail after just two years, but even with this, I like it enough to risk getting another one. It saves money as it only boils, and then automatically dispenses, 250 ml at a time, enough for a good size mug, (not adjustable) near boiling water and a nice looking appliance. I did have to take one back immediately before this after one day though, it began to over fill mugs, but I got a replacement from Argos without any problems.

Breville is one of my favourite makes and this hot water dispenser has not disapointed me - I really am pleased with it - Very easy to fill, a little heavy maybe but just put less water in as it makes no difference as it only heats one cup / mug at a time - It looks good on the worktop and is very easy to keep clean - The drip tray is easy to empty but when you find the right size cup / mug that won't be a problem - A little noisey but you get used to it - Overall this is a great hot water dispenser for the price - well done again Argos.

I'm always a bit sceptical on the reviews, you don't know if their made up just to sell the product?I brought this item (Breville one cup) because I live alone, (no point boiling a kettle with a load of water in)It does what it says it does, fill your mug with hot water.I tend to add the coffee, switch it on whilst I get ready for work, within seconds its done. I have a mug of coffee ready to go...For me, its prefect. Is there a down side?? I don't think so, I will say its noisier than a kettle, other than that, its brilliant.

Bought this at christmas and so far very happy with it. It does "BOIL" the water unlike the other (one cup?)Tefal Kettle which just prepares "HOT" water. It boils a measured ~250ml serving (average cup size) which only takes a few seconds. It is rather noisy, but i don't mind as everything else is great and it looks fab too.A bonus is that my kids can now make themselves a cup of tea without the fear of dropping a heavy kettle full of scolding water over themselves. Far easier and safer for them to use, which they love.
