At first I thought it would be difficult to get excited about a kettle, after all a kettle is just a kettle, but I must say I am surprised at how much I like this particular example. I think it is perhaps to do with the fact kettles never seem to last long these days and nearly all have some off putting aspect, such as leaking! We were given a present of our first glass kettle. It was a Russel Hobbs and although we liked the concept, it had several design faults that resulted in leaks from the lid. The lid finally disintigrated after just eighteen months of use and the kettle was therefore consigned to the bin.In my search for a replacement I laid out certain criteria: it had to be robust, had to have a lid that fitted properly, must pour with ease and have reasonable capacity and power. This kettle fits the bill perfectly. When looking for a kettle pay particular attention to the lid. Many have lids with hinges. Avoid these at all costs as they invariably fail or distort over time making sealing impossible. They are also more difficult to fill, especially those that only allow the lid to open about sixty degrees. The Breville has a lid that lifts off completely, so allowing easy fill. The lid is also fitted with three spring clips that automatically fixes it in position so that it seals perfectly. It pours effortlessly, without any spillage. Another point to watch out for is the quality and location of the switch. Many kettles have very cheap feeling plastic switches that are tucked away very close to the bottom of the handle, making them awkward to use. The Breville switch appears to be well made, is very well located and is very easy to use. It also can be switched on again immediately after boiling - some cheaper models have to cool down before they reset. All in all this is an excellent kettle that I have no hesitation in recommending.

We just bought one of these to replace our old kettle. We used to have an older Sage model (courtesy of my brother) but wanted to replace with something more simple and affordable. We had our hearts set on glass, makes it easy to see when you need to clean it, and nicer aesthetics in our kitchen. Was very impressed by the Breville. The first thing I noticed was the weight - it's well made and solid, nice glass and steel look, and the handle is nice (not too clunky), but surprisingly light compared to the Sage we had before. Another perk is that it's quick to boil - wouldn't say lightening but a bit quicker than our Sage. Some reviews said that you get the white scale at the bottom - we had this with our Sage also, and we have a filter tap - that's just the water. It's easy to get off - 5 lemons juiced and then topped up with the same amount of water, leave for 10 mins then boil it off and it's good as new. There's one very small bit at the top of the handle that looks a bit shoddy - just a very small piece of plastic but that's literally the only thing wrong with this kettle. We did get it on a deal on Amazon, but good price and does the job of making boiling water very nicely. Definitely recommend.

We ordered one of these previously and found when it arrived that it was quite wobbly on its base, like the kettle wasn't fully seating down onto the base. That was disappointing given that we went with this as the more expensive 'safe bet' compared to some of the other cheaper alternatives. Amazon processed the return with no problems and we ordered another one. This one seems fine so all's good. If you are after a kettle that doesn't have lots of plastic in contact with the water as it boils then I think this is a good choice. There is a filter in the spout that is steel but has a plastic rim around it but this is removable. I did think of trying one of the cheaper options but this one has a lid that lifts off completely rather than one of those 'flip up'ones which always seem to be the first thing to break on a kettle so we stuck with this one. If you are trying to reduce your tendency to overfill the kettle this one makes it really easy. Simply fill a cup, lift the lid off and pour in the water. I would imagine this would also be handy for people with joint problems or arthritis as it saves them from having to hold the kettle under the tap to fill.

I live in California where the fastest kettle on our standard 120v mains supply runs at 1500 watts and takes up to 8 mins to boil. I put in a dedicated 240v circuit to the kitchen solely to power a 240v kettle. I scoured both the German Amazon and UK Amazon sites for the fastest, highest-wattage kettle that I could find. This Breville was the highest rated of the 3Kw kettles. An added bonus was its stylish glass design and cool blue led illuminating the water until it boils. It's way more stylish than anything that I've seen in the U.S. It arrived in 7 days without damage. It's been two weeks of daily use and I'm still gob-smacked by the speed of this thing.I make pour-over filter drip coffee And now the water has boiled before I've finished grinding the coffee beans! It also greatly simplifies snd accelerates any task that requires boiling water, like cooking pasta. It was well worth the trouble that I went to to bring a UK kitchen "must-have," into this American kitchen!

This kettle replaced the 20 year old Breville model preceeding it. On a cost per use basis, the old one was effectively free. I only think it died because we had the builders in for 7 months. I descale it every Friday with distilled vinegar to keep it absolutely pristine. What I LOVE about it: boils enough for one cup of coffee or a pot of pasta. Quiet, energy efficient, quick. Before the old kettle, I used to kill a kettle every year, so this product was durable and I am hoping that the new one that shares so much with its ancestor does the same. The lid lifts off, which is an improvement--the old one's spring lid got dodgy towards the end. The spout is smaller--I would have preferred to keep the larger spout, but you can't have everything. I love this product and would recommend it to anybody without any reservations.

We've used this for over a year now with no problems whatsoever. Quick to boil. Not as noisy as my last kettle. Nice blue LED. No leaking. The toughened ultra clear glass requires cleaning as you would expect to keep it sparkling and if not the grime shows very quickly. The cap is a quick put on and pull off which is far better than anything on a hinge (less chance of wear and tear problems). We live in a soft water area and I use Brita filters as well so no build up of limescale. The base itself is quite plasticky but works very well with good contact with the kettle. Really nice looking kettle so much so that friends and family have bought one as a result. My mother has requested one the next time I'm back visiting her! That's multiple kettles sold due to me Amazon! :)Highly recommended.

I bought this kettle as a much needed upgrade to my cheap and cheerful one that emptied boiling water all over the side everytime I poured it! This is a modern looking kettle whiich lights up blue when it is switched on, it looks good! After the first couple of weeks I noticed a limescale build up (I live in a very hard water area) so was worried it was going to look grubby quite quickly, however after a quick look online I found a natural way that works amazingly well to clear the limescale build up - a little white distilled vinegar in with water, boil it, let it sit for 15 minutes, rinse boil, empty and you are good to go with a kettle that looks as good as new, without the use of chemicals!(No there is no after taste or smell of vinegar).

Hesitated to buy a glass kettle as they seem unreasonably expensive but took a chance when a deal came up. Very happy. This kettle is well made and boils quickly and quietly. We live in a hard water area and have had to invest in a water filter jug to use for the kettle and still need to descale pretty regularly as you notice the furring very quickly through the glass.Honestly not sure whether this is an advantage or disadvantage so you will need to decide for yourself. The spout also seems to pour quite slowly but is also slow to stop pouring so I often overfill the mugs a little when pouring - it's a little strange and still not used to it even after weeks of use.Overall very happy with thiskettle but would not pay full price for it.

We've had this kettle for six months now, but I thought it's never too late for a review, and it actually might be a benefit for those contemplating purchasing it.One of the main reason for buying was that it was a Which? (consumer group) Best Buy and really lives up to that accolade. The other reason was the removable lid, which early reviews criticised, however, it is the best design I've used. Other kettles, with the spring loaded lid, while convenient for one-handed filling, always always always fail. This has no such issues and I hope it will last us for many years to come. Also, it looks great, especially when it's boiling in the semi-dark of an early morning cuppa.

This is a nice glass kettle with SCHOTT glass from Germany. The base plugs into the wall and the kettle is placed upon it. Once you fill it with water, you can turn it on. A light glows blue and when the kettle boils, the water swirls up in the most amazing blue lightshow in the torrent of boiling water. The swirling blue illuminated water is most impressive to mine eyes. It does not, however, turn red, as I had expected. Red signals danger, and boiling water is dangerous. That was the only disappointment for me. Otherwise, this is a sterling kettle. I would use BRITA or other filtered water to reduce limescale issues. I can recommend this kettle to all and sundry.

Fast boil, good capacity and like the coloured lighting effects. Solid quality and easy to clean and remove the filter which is metal unlike the usual mesh ones which generally disintegrates on other kettle filters we have had, so that is a real bonus. We live in a hard water area so have to clean the glass every couple of weeks but we knew that so not the products fault. It is loud in operation than other kettles we have owned but after a while you get used to it and due to boil speed not so bad. Removable lid is a real bonus for filling as we have had numerous flip lids break and jam shut, just wish it was slightly cheaper in the first place.

Overall a wonderful kettle. 6 months in with regular use from 3 adults and 2 children and it’s holding up well. A beautiful design and great to know that there is little plastic even remotely close to the boiling water. Only criticism would be that we live in a very hard water area and despite using a P1000 Brita Filter (meant to reduce limescale) we are having to clean our kettle from limescale residue every 2 weeks! A real pain but made harder by the difficulty of squeezing your hand in through the very small top of the kettle in order to clean inside (despite removing the filter each time) Otherwise very pleased!

I bought the same model 2 years ago and it suddenly stopped working.I thought I'd give it another go as I like the look of it.If I had to make a complaint it would be the filter, in the last one, it became detached soon I purchased it and was impossible to put back. I used the kettle for nearly 2 years without a filter up until now this one is still there.I would advise using filtered water as I do, to stop the limeing up mine hardly ever needs cleaning. If you buy one just be mindful of the filter! other than that the kettle is highly recommable.

This is the second one of these we have had. The first one (previous model) lasted 5 years plus before the switch became temperamental. We bought this as a direct replacement expecting it to be the same which it is .....largely.The one downside to this one over the previous model is that this one does not have a push button lid release for filling. The lid must be pulled off to fill now which is a step backwards in my opinion. Nothing major obviously and we certainly don't mind but seems odd that the previous model had it but this one does not

I LOVE this kettle, if it's not too sad to admit to loving a kettle?! Firstly, it boils quickly and quietly, - not making me wait for my cup of tea any longer than necessary already makes it a winner in my book. It's stylish too, very modern looking with the glass body. My 2 year old son and I love the blue light that illuminates from the kettle while boiling, he comments every time it boils that it's blue :) It doesn't leak from the spout and the lid is easy to take off and put on. Flawless.
