There seem to be mixed reviews on this alarm clock. You either love it or hate it... I'm in the former camp, and glad I purchased it. If you're considering this, please note the following:The design is very nice, and it seems well made. I didn't get the feeling it's "cheap" after holding it. Even critics of this alarm clock seem to admit it's a sleek design.Reading the time is not impossible, but the normal display is very dim, as many have noted. Unless, of course, you hit the snooze button, which activates the LED display. Then everything is crystal clear (no pun intended). For me this is exactly what I want. This is an alarm clock, not a wall clock.I don't want to be disturbed by superfluous lights at night when I'm trying to sleep. If I wake up and need to check the time, I only need to hit the snooze button and the current time is displayed for a few seconds. This works well for me, as I rarely check the time at night. The normal display is readable, just dim. You certainly shouldn't have any trouble setting the time or alarm without having to activate the LED, as someone wrote below. If you can't read the display to set the time or alarm, you probably need to get your eyes checked.Setting the time by radio frequency worked well. It took some minutes to lock onto the signal, and then everything was fine. Setting manually is also an option, for those that are out of signal range. The alarm is not loud, but adequate. Similar in volume to a mobile phone alarm. If you need an extremely loud alarm, this is definitely not for you. If you're currently using your mobile phone or equivalent, there shouldn't be an issue with the alarm volume. The alarm "on-off" button is on the top left. The snooze is also along the top. It's theoretically possible, although actually quite difficult, to accidentally turn the alarm off when trying to hit the snooze. However, the "on-off" button is relatively small, and very much on the top left side of the device. I don't think it should be an issue to anyone with average intelligence. I always activate the snooze by pressing the right half of the device. It's actually quite natural to do this. Problem solved. The functionality is exactly what I needed in an alarm clock. The design is fantastic, and looks great by my bed. No more hunting for my mobile phone before bedtime, realising it's not charged, and then hunting for the charger, just to have an alarm ready the following morning. The price of this alarm clock is high, but if price is an issue, just keep using your mobile phone. You really are paying for the design and, in my case, convenience. But it looks great, and its minimalistic functional design and appearance make me very happy. I think you will be, too.

In all honesty, I actually wanted a bright red Punkt Alarm Clock. However, I could stomach the £120 price tag. So, I tried to find a clock that would satisfy a good compromise between style, function, and price.First, this is a great alarm clock at a good price, and if you want an alarm clock this is probably the one to get. It feel well made, and I especially like how the battery holder makes a little stand for the clock. The display is also big and easy to read... when you are holding the clock. It is less easy to read when sitting at an angle to you or illuminated by day light. However, that is a minor complaint as for me the main use of this clock is at night.I had considered getting the travel version of this clock, which is a little smaller, but I'm glad I didn't. This clock is a perfect size. And would not be too big for packing in a suitcase when travelling, either. In my corner of England the automatic syncing to radio time worked perfectly, so I can't complain. I hate changing the times on clocks, so I look forward to this one doing it for me.I read some reviews complain of the alarm button being combined with the snooze/light button. However, this works just fine for me and has not resulted in my accidentally disabling the alarm. There are two reasons that this clock does not get a full 5 stars from me. The first is the sound of the beeper. I find it mildly unpleasant. Surely in this day of wonderful smartphone alarm sounds, an alarm clock like this could sound a little better. The second reason is the blue colour the display illuminates to when the snooze/light button is pressed. My personal preference is for all displays to be viewed temporarily at night to have a dim red colour so as to not be aggressively jarring to my eyes. if this alarm clock would fix this particular deficiency, then I think it would earn 5 stars.

I've had this a few days and love it.It will set the time automatically using the UK MSF signal, the German equivalent, and (though I haven't tried it) the US or Japanese time signals too. There's a little slide switch on the back to select this. It sets automatically when you put the battery in, and from time to time anyway, but you can press a little button on the back to force it to sync straightaway. When the backlight is off, the clock emits no light at all, relying on reflecting the light in the room instead - which makes it readable whenever there is some light near it, even bright sunlight.Pressing the snooze button turns on a nice blue backlight making the numbers appear white on blue. Some people have asked whether you can turn on the light while setting the alarm: you don't need to. The act of pressing the +/- button to set the alarm turns on the light anyway, so you can always see the time you're setting, even in the dark. The alarm starts discreet, and gets more persistent. This works for me because one beep is usually enough to stir me from sleep, but sometimes I need something more persistent. The backlight comes on with the alarm. Some people have noted that both the snooze/light button and the alarm on/off button are on the top. I don't have any trouble distinguishing between the two, even in the dark. The snooze/light button is on the right and presses and releases (and turns on the light), the alarm button is on the left, clicks, and doesn't turn on the light. So all in all, stylish little clock that does what it says, and deserves its design awards.

The instructions are a bit vague, but in about 5000 languages, so probably not much room on the paper :-)Once the battery is inserted onto the strangely shaped bulbous battery container, standy uppey bit, it leapt into life. However, it failed to display a little antenna signal or set the time by the magic of radio. pushing the "flaming get on with it" " (rec) button, also left if flashing away merrily, but oblivious to time here in the real world. I then happened to change the position of the switch on the side to "." as opposed to "time" or "alarm", then push the "rec" button ..... suddenly a flashing antenna symbol appeared and shortly afterwards the clock joined us here in 2016 at thecorrect time (which is a good thing for a clock to do:-).Also on the back is a switch which allows you to select your geographical region for the appropriate radio / time data, ignore this at your peril. I believe that if you take the clock to Mars / the outback / Somewhere without Radio time transmission, the time can be set manually. The back-light is good and operates for several seconds when the button is pressed. The alarm sound is adequate, not loud but adequate. If you sleep like a walrus or would like to wake the dead, probably you may require a louder alarm. An excellent and elegant product. It doesn't do many tricks, but it can certainly tell the time and wake you up OK.

I bought this elsewhere for £5 cheaper than on Amazon. This is a well made alarm clock, not too sure about other peoples complaints, the display for me is fine even when the sun comes into my bedroom during the day.The alarm itself is loud enough for me, but I accept that those who require a literal explosion of noise in the morning may need to look elsewhere.Yes it is expensive for what it is, but for me it ticks all the boxes required, it tells the time accurately and wakes me up no problem, and being a design freak it looks pretty cool in a minimalist way, well done Braun! The reason for this purchase is I found my smartphone was erratic in when the alarm went off, and seemed to gain /lose time at will, or my favorite was the battery going flat.I like accuracy and I don't trust alarm clocks that require mains, yes I know most have a battery back up, however I prefer something that is specific for the task which isn't tethered, the Braun does this while not looking cheap and nasty, something that cannot be said for 99% of the alarm clocks out there. So if you do not require a thermo nuclear explosion to wake you up,and your not myopic ( I can easily read the time from the opposite end of a large room in blazing sun light) and you fancy something super accurate that looks pretty sweet, then the Braun is a modern stylish alarm clock for you.

Having had an Oregon radio controlled alarm clock that finally died on me, I was looking for a more simple clock. The Oregon had lots of bells and whistles on it which were totally lost on me....I never did find out how to disarm the alarm on the wretched thing! I am so pleased with the Braun alarm clock, it is everything the Orgegan was not - small, easy to set and disarm the alarm. It took all of about a minute for the clock to set itself at the right time and although I read a few reviews where people complained that the night light was not bright enough I do not find it dim at all. The Oregon shone like a Christmas tree when I pressed the button to see the time during the night.I think people who read my review will arrive at the conclusion that I am thrilled with this little alarm clock.

Very elegant-looking clock which has been a joy to use, but then so it should be for the price! The alarm starts with the light going on a few seconds before the allotted time, then single beeps, then progressively more beeps. Very pleasant to wake up to.My only gripe is that the snooze button is only ever a snooze button, and there is no way of stopping the alarm for the day without turning the whole alarm off and then back on again. Having said that, the alarm on/off control is built into the snooze button, and is very simple, and it's immediately obvious if the alarm is on or off depending on whether the button is raised or flush.

Very good alarm clock. It is easy to set the alarm time and is invisible and silent at night which is the main reason I bought it - I hate light or noise in my room at night. But, this renders it useless as a general clock - you will not be able to see the time from across the room during the day - not a problem for me, I just keep another ordinary clock in the room. One annoyance is that when you press the top button to illuminate the time at night, it does so in blue light which is more likely to wake you up than red light. But the clock is simple, elegant and does just what I wanted.

Just what I needed - a small simple alarm clock that doesn't light up my room until I want it to at night. I'm fed up with clocks that glow like a full on night light. This one you just tap it on the top and it displays the time and how you've set it for 4-5 seconds then lets you nod back off. It doesn't have multiple other functions but I could see that on the spec before I bought it. I first came across it in the bedrooms at the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong. They use them in their guest bedrooms!

Although I agree with some reviewers who said that the display was a little dim and difficult to see, I quickly got used to this. I found the snooze/off arrangement on top was absolutely fine for me. Some reviewers found this a little problematical but I got used to it straight away. The initial radio signal time setting started straight away and has proven to work wherever I place it in the house. In my opinion this is a great little clock and I would not hesitate recommending it.

15.6.2016

It's a lot bigger than the travel size braun digital alarm and the battery goes in the compartment you can see in the picture (looks like a stand). The only difference apart from the size is that the times are very clearly visible in normal lighting conditions (the travel size one is generally too dark in all but direct sunlight) and the times are much easier to read. It picks up the time signal very easily too.

27.10.2016

didn't realise there was a huge LUMP of plastic at rear to support. saw on different site then saw this one 'without' my fault. Shame Braun don't do a fold down or clip as to be used for travelling. Country option EU great! Japan? No Australia. Still haven't worked out if say we are in Russia then it auto updates like a mobile. Clear display and really easy to use. A case of wait and see for use overseas?

Bought 2 of these clocks and have to say they are incredibly simple to set up compared to other similar clocks on the market. I like the fact it automatically sets the time and setting the alarm is a dream, no fiddling around. Also by depressing the button on the top the face lights up long enough to read the time at night. Highly recommend this clock. No ticking noise so good too if you like this

bought thsw as a replacement for a £5 alarm that finally gave up on me after years of service, This is also a great alram, but a hell of a lot more expensive.I think if money is no object, its a worthwile purchase, it sets the time and adjust to time changes via the remote signals, and its always correct. alarm is loud enough to wake you, but not too loud that it'd wake everyone in the house.

19.12.2016

I bought it based on the fact that my 30 year old Bosch travel alarm had finally succumbed to having been dropped on the hard floor once too often. It took a while to get it to set itself to the correct time, but once done, it has coped with a time change and is very accurate. I'm very pleased with this clock.
