2nd Edit:After 5 years we've decided to buy a new kettle. This one still works - no leaks, no electrical issues - however it does take longer to boil, and seems to reach boiling point and keeps going for an extra 10-20 seconds or so before stopping. We figure it's time to get a better one now as we use the kettle so often. I wouldn't pay 30 quid for it as the current price is, but I am surprised by other reviewers' experiences as it doesn't reflect my experience. No worries, this is why we share knowledge so you guys can make a better decision.Edited above the dashed lineI've had this kettle for half a year now and it's still going strong. It's quiet, fast and easy to pour.I'm very happy with this purchase and it was a good decision to replace our perfectly healthy but poorly designed phillips kettle that has now been donated for free online to someone.----------------------------------------------------------------Only bought this kettle this week for GBP30. So far I'm very happy.Ordered 16th Dec arrived 18th Dec. Even had two emails saying firstly that it'd been dispatched (quite usual), and then a second email saying it was going to arrive today (on the 18th). I am a prime member so I don't know if this is usual for this product or not.I won't claim to be a kettle expert, but I am a thorough researcher whenever I buy any product whatsoever. So I researched kettles prior to this purchase, including reading through all other reviewers opinions. This kettle hasn't disappointed. I followed the instructions that came with the kettle which basically involves boiling full kettle twice, and the first boil should be followed by dropping a spoonful of white vinegar before pouring away and doing a second full boil. No bad tastes for any of my teas experienced so far.The kettle itself is designed well. The base allows you to revolve the kettle to a right hander or left hander side. The pouring spout is large and seems to me to have no splash when pouring into a mug (though I can't think why this should be different from other kettles but just seems so). There is a push button release for the lid that is away from any steam areas so you can refill right after a boil without risk of being burned (something many kettles still lack!). It's also relatively light so easy to pick up. Looks wise you can judge for yourself of course but it doesn't feel cheap.Lastly, and maybe important for some but not others, this item is shorter than most other 1.7 liter boiling kettles. It has a larger circumference and I thought there had been a mistake when I saw the box because it's really quite small. By the way, the box for the product was shipped in a larger Amazon box with some paper inside for extra padding. Though with Courier delivery I don't think it's even necessary but good to see all the same.I knew the features I wanted from a kettle, if you want what this kettle offers you won't be disappointed.

We needed a kettle that was fast to boil, easy to fill, had accurate and easy to read filling markings and would not scale up in a hard water area. This Bosch Village Collection kettle looked as though it would fit the requirements and it turns out it has.First of all the lid has a flip up action when you press the button on the top of the handle and is easy to position under a tap or, in our case, fill from a Brita water jug - http://amzn.to/2x29lNM. You can clearly see the fill markings on both sides of the kettle (a bonus for right or left handed people) and these are remarkably accurate - the 2 cup marking fills two mugs exactly and is just right for a small pot of tea.In use the kettle boils pretty quickly - I'm sure there are some that are faster but this is rapid enough for us.By the time I've emptied out the tea pot and put more tea leaves in, the hot water is ready. As I've found typical with a lot of automatic kettles, the unit doesn't switch off immediately on reaching boiling point but goes on boiling for 10 seconds longer than necessary. It seems that the auto switch off is a fail safe rather than precluding you having to operate the switch manually. The switch, at the base of the handle, is easy to push down for on and glows red when heating the water. It's also easy to flip up when the kettle starts boiling. If not the auto switch will trigger it off after another 10 seconds. When it is approaching boiling it is pretty noisy so if you're looking for a 'silent' kettle, this isn't it. On the other hand it is easy to hear when to switch it off.The spout is very good and the kettle is well balanced making it easy to pour and I particularly like the large handle. The spout also contains a limescale filter (which is easy to remove and clean). In addition the element is covered at the base of the kettle, so any limescale buildup should be easy to remove - hopefully the Brita water filter we're now using won't make this necessary, but time will tell.Initially we found the kettle to be a little difficult to locate on the base as it is a snug fit to the central boss. However it only takes a bit of practice to get into the habit of actually looking at what you are doing and line it up accurately with the base. It's taken me a few days but this is now second nature.Altogether this is a great kettle and it's colour is lovely too!

Within recent months, this is the third kettle used. With the first, the plastic portion of its switch fractured and could no longer be used, the handle on the second alarmingly loosened with a few weeks of use and was also the most expensive of any previously purchased by almost £15.This is plastic-bodied with a moulded-in handle so there is nothing to loosen. Empty, it is very light and appears not to be any heavier when half-full. It is also quite stubby without being unduly wide and still holds the common 1.7 litres of water. Its power cord is longer than on some models but still well under 1m in length; if there is an excess, it can be wound into a storage area in the base and reduces the length by about half.Boiling time is similar to many others and far less noisy than some - this is common with plastic kettles. There is an internal removable filter to trap any particles of limescale that will develop in our very hard London water and, although easy to remove, it can be fiddly to replace (TIP - engage the bottom lip first). The spout is unusually large and of a circular profile which is useful if used for filling and also when pouring. Filling is fastest if you open the lid and fill through that rather than through the spout and filter; a lid release is conveniently fitted near to the top of the handle. There are two opposing see-through side panels with level markings in both cups and litres and they are easy to read and unconfusing. When 'on', the switch body is brightly illuminated in red but the interior is not illuminated as it is with some models. In use, there is no chance of being scalded by the steam from a just boiled kettle as the spout is far away from the handle and any rising steam will never be near to the hand holding the kettle as can happen with a top-mounted handle. In terms of price, it isn't one of the 'cheap' brands nor one of the excessively expensive but Bosch is a respected German brand of many houseware items. It is functional, well-balanced and moderately attractive and there are no 'flashy' design additions to bolster the price.

We live in a 200 year old stone cottage and since we've moved in I've always used a well known brand cast iron whistle kettle which cost a fortune but even though it took a while to boil, I just loved it. Unfortunately it has no cup indicator on the side and I can't always judge how much water is going in the kettle and also with the kettle being cast iron it weighs quite a lot which only adds to the miss calculation of how much water is in it. So after many many years of waiting for long periods of time for the kettle to boil and the shock of realising on a good few occasions I'd forgotten to flip the whistle down and walked into a kitchen full of steam, plus the added worry of it being a potential fire hazard of it boiling dry I decided it was time to get a new one and settled on the Bosch electric kettle. As usual delivery was super fast from Amazon and the kettle was packaged well so after opening it and discarding the first few kettles of boiled water I made myself a cup of tea and only filling it to where the one cup mark was, I was shocked at how fast the kettle boiled compared to the Le Creuset. As it happens a day or two before I got the Bosch kettle I'd sent in a meter reading to my energy supplier I resent a reading a month later and my monthly payments have gone from £150 a month to £100, I'm not saying it's just the kettle as I've also just got a new pump heat dryer too but as of yet I've not had much need to use the new dryer so I do think the majority of the bill has been the kettle. I've only just sent another reading in to my energy supplier and they've asked for another reading so I do think it's had quite an impact on my utility consumption in a good way. I can't believe how quickly it boils the water and I no longer need to wait around for 10 minutes while the kettle boils it's now boiled in seconds, literally, so I'm thrilled with my purchase and wouldn't hesitate recommending it.

I'm in mourning. After nearly 5 years of loyal and faithful service, my Bosch is finally showing its age. It's still working, bless its heart, but there's a small leak of water at the base when I lift it off, and that is the usual prelude to gradual decline. Although, nothing has been usual about this kettle. I'd been used to kettles lasting one year, maybe two if lucky, and I thought I'd struck gold when I found the Braun AquaExpress which I think lasted three years. When I came back to Amazon to order another, I found it wasn't available anymore, so I took a punt on its Saxon-sounding cousin in Bosch, and I'm so pleased that I did! We're a household of tea and coffee fanatics and more besides,so the kettle has led a dog's life of abject drudgery. It's been boiled at least 25 times a day. Never once complained or threw an electrical wobbly in any way. Yes, it's big and clunky and probably rather ugly if you're into svelte curves, but it's no-nonsense, it has clean lines, and it's not too heavy to hold at all. It's a reliable, neat pourer and doesn't drip. It fills very easily and the filter has never clogged. It's been a real trooper and the brand has earned my life-long loyalty. If you think that's over the top hyperbole, then I'd respectfully suggest you don't fully grasp the level of our tea addiction.I bought a replacement a couple of years ago (wasn't going to be left in the same AquaExpress predicament!) but I'm back to buy a replacement for the replacement now, and delighted to see that this model is still available.Think I'll get two. You can never have too much of a reliable good thing. Look no further if you're pondering a purchase - this is The One.

I am one of those people who spend a huge amount of time researching before buying things, to make sure I get the best product for my allocated budget. At the time of purchase, this one was £24.99, and while there were cheaper kettles with loads of positive reviews just like this one, I have decided for this kettle from Bosch. And that was due to multiple reasons. The average rating is 4.4 which is one of the highest, and to make sure I get something that's been tested by a lot of people, I only focused on kettles with 500+ reviews. I was eyeing other kettles but some had less than 4 star average rating and that was a little off putting.I have to say that for the first few boils,a plastic smell and taste was present, but this was fixed with vinegar. I imagine this is quite common. It can boil enough water for a cup in about a minute, which I find satisfactory. It is not overly loud either. The design is simple yet it is no eye sore, and I would say it looks nice on the kitchen counter. It is not hard at all to fill and the lid can be opened easily by pressing the button on top. The capacity is standard, 1.7 liters.I bought this in April 2015, so I have been using it for nearly 2 years, and it still works fine.Bosch is a solid brand that does not disappoint, but let's not overthink it, it's just a kettle. If you can find a cheaper one with good reviews, your experience probably won't differ much.If you think my review was helpful, please do click 'Yes' below, it would be great to know that someone has found this information useful. Reviewing is my hobby! Also feel free to ask questions here in comments, I will reply within 24 hours.

Bosch TWK7601GB Village Collection Kettle, 1.7 L - White. Bought in November 2015 for £20.15.My last few kettles have been low-cost supermarket models, and all have had shortcomings. But after a few weeks of use I can't find anything wrong with this one. It's good-looking. It has no internal light but none is needed because of the very clear windows on each side. The power switch does light up.A separate button opens the lid - you don't need two hands for this one. The lid opens very wide making filling easy and giving good access to the filter for cleaning. Filling through the wide spout is also easy and it pours well. It's fairly quiet and boils small or large amounts quickly.Part of the white lead can be wound inside the base; you can really only choose two lengths but the shorter option works fine for me.I followed the recommendation about white vinegar before first use. I've never experienced a bad taste in tea or coffee even though that does happen with other kettles in my water area. My water is regularly reboiled about four times before emptying, but I would never top up a part-filled kettle.I can't report on long-term use yet but here's hoping I get at least a year or two before any problems appear. Hoping for more these days is sadly over-optimistic.The kettle is currently offered in three colours - be careful to choose the right one.I was so pleased with this kettle I immediately decided to buy a spare, only to discover it had gone up to £22.39. As soon as it comes down again I will be reordering!

It happens occasionally that a product comes along that is a fraction of the price of its competitors, and better. We had been using one of retro-style, colourful kettles for a while, till it blew our circuit breaker one day, so a replacement was imperative. This was the chosen item - and what a good choice it is proving to be.First of all, it is round and tall. 'So what?' you might ask. Smaller footprint! It takes up less room on the counter. It is less obtrusive. It fits in.Secondly, it feels robust. OK, it's plastic, but everything works with a satisfying click. For example, with our previous kettle it was possible to put a towel or similar down near it and find that it had been inadvertently switched on.Not so with this one: it takes a good, deliberate click to get it switched on.Thirdly, it is quick and quiet. The capacity is 1.7 litres. The viewing panel / water level indicator is clear, so it easy to put on the right amount of water to boil - an economy measure. It can be filled either through the spout or the lid. There's a limescale filter in the spout. This needs to be cleaned periodically. The makers recommend a soak in a little vinegar, then rinse clear. They also recommend the use of white vinegar for regular descaling - important to us as we live in a hard-water area.Other than that, an occasional wipe-over with a damp cloth will suffice to keep the outside of the kettle clean. We are very pleased with this purchase. We could have spent a lot more and not been as pleased. Recommended.

Love this kettle! As I'm a 'Methodical Mary' I researched A LOT before deciding to try this... so don't waste your time; if you like what I have to say and it answers your questions, just buy it and spend your time doing something more worthwhile. ;-)I bought the TWK7603GB to replace a very old Black Bosch Brita Filter kettle that, although working perfectly, had a build-up of limescale around the spout and looked unsightly, as well as being no longer needed as we recently had a Brita Torlan tap fitted. At first I thought it looked a tad cheap and wasn’t 100% sure about the grey trim, but once in the kitchen the kettle looks good and more importantly is great to use.Pros:* Fill level at the front (& back)of the kettle – our previous one had it hidden by the handle which was difficult to see* 0.3l (1 cup) minimum fill – our previous one was 0.5l (2 cup) minimum fill* Really light & small (but not too small)* No dribble from the base when pouring – our previous one often left me with water on the floor where it seemed to dribble from the spout along the body and from the base on to the floor* Looks great alongside a black induction hob :-)Cons:- NoneWe didn’t notice the plastic taste others mention though did follow the instructions to use white distilled vinegar before first use.I timed – yes I know that is a very sad thing to do(!) - both the new and old kettle to see if there was any difference; the difference was marginal.

I'm reviewing this kettle as I'm looking for a replacement; it has lasted almost exactly 4.5 years. I might well get the same one again, although, like others, I am disappointed that nowadays products don't last long anymore. Before this one I had a Philips kettle which lasted for 6 years but which overall I liked less, and before that, one that lasted over 25 years (am I that old??). I live in a soft water area, so limescale was never a problem. But the limescale filter nevertheless disintegrated relatively soon. The kettle also never leaked or crumbled, as others seem to have experienced.I liked that the kettle is light, boils water very fast, has a one-hand opening mechanism, a 360 degree base, and a clear gauge. All of this makes it perfect for frequent use. In day-to-day use there was nothing at all I didn't like, I still think it's the best kette around. As it got older it sometimes did not switch on, but this seemed due to corroding contacts between kettle and base and could be easily fixed with a dose of WD40 and a cotton bud. More recently it did not switch off reliably when boiling, and I don't know how to fix this. So I must say farewell. But I may well say hello to its twin.Update: a bit of research on YouTube and another well-placed dose of WD40 seems to have solved the switch-off problem - so the kettle has another lease of life.

Purchased from Argos with a 3 year additional warranty, after taking back the latest Breville Illuminating kettle which failed after 2 months. I've been a loyal fan of Breville and saddened the kettle I purchased from Argos November 2015 failed, and was non responsive. For the Bosch, I have got used to the power lever. I miss the illuminator facility as with Breville, but I very much like the lid mechanism on the Bosch which the Breville didn't have. Simply push the button and the lid flips/ springs open. Once you have water and closed the lid, you can lock the lid by pressing the top half of the button. Very nice !!! The water gauge is very visible and was a plus before choosing this. There is a plastic aftertaste from brand new, but if you fill up the kettle with half water and the rest with cooking lemon juice (Jiff or a pile of cheapo ones from Poundland), just leave overnight, empty, fill with fresh water, boil, empty again, fill with fresh water, boil, empty again, that should do it. Repeat process if required. Aftertaste on mine has gone. Quality Kettle from Bosch, and thank you Argos for Christmas 2015.

The kettle was slightly smaller than expected in size but is fine. As mentioned by a few other people the wire is quite short. Perfect for me as it is positioned right next to the plug but if your kettle needs to be more than about 30cm away from a plug socket it will not be long enough.I don't really understand the noise factor that people complain about, it's a kettle, you switch it on, it boils, you would expect to hear it boil, its not continuously boiling so why does the noise of it boiling cause a problem? - Not really understanding this issue at heart I can say, you switch it on, it boils quickly so isn't 'noisy' for long and the sound isn't so deafening I have to move to the other room,it sounds quite like a kettle boiling at the volume you would expect. LOLIt pours well without dripping and switches off immediately after its boiled, its quick to boil, neat tidy and easy to clean. If you want a kettle but don't want to spend the ridiculous amounts they can be this is the perfect item.

After our kettle of many years broke we had been using a tempory cheap basic kettle from a supermarket which leaked every time you poured it, and a cup of water would pour out of the lid too when it was opened......I didnt want to make an expensive mistake and get a nice looking kettle that wasnt any better.THIS KETTLE is just what I wanted, looks lovely in cream, very glossy and the red switch lights up when its on, it isnt noisy. The lid opens nicely and is deseigned so any condensation goes back into the kettle. It sits on the plate very well and goes on softly.....not with a bump. Its got a good comfortable handle to hold, even when full and pours like a dream, not even a drip on the worktop!!!!I had read some reviews saying it had a plastic taste, and when I unpackaged it it did have a faint plastic smell, but I filled and boiled it once, refilled it half hour later and made tea........no taste at all!......only tea!Very pleased, great looking, good quality and a nice price!

I wanted a transparent, prefereably glass bodied kettle, I've had 3 different makes/models before and all eventually developed a leak where the glass seals to the base. Checking out all the reviews I failed to find a satisfactory alternative to those I'd tried so after yet mor intensive study of reviews, I settled on this.I've not experienced the slight off-taste to the water some reviewers have mentioned (maybe there are other factors like quality of the water being used, I'm in a soft-water area). It feels like a quality-build and is easy to use, easy to open/close lid with very positive action, pours well, positive illuminated when on switch, fast enough, not unduly noisy, reaction time to boiling OK (some previous kettles have kept heating a few seconds beyond rolling boil), adequate view of water level. An observation, not that it matters, several seconds after switching off there's a distinct metallic "ting!".

New buyer review: No plasticky smell in the first cup of tea (regular tea drinker here). There was a strong plastic smell in the kettle on opening the packaging, but I followed the instructions in the manual (1 boil, add vinegar, swish, empty, 2nd boil, swish, empty). Added vinegar to the second boil as well. Did a couple more warm water swishy rinses after that, and let the kettle cool before boiling again. Good from the first cup.The kettle looked oblong in shape in its solitary side profile pic. It's actually ROUND - a cylindrical kettle. And like the partner toaster I purchased with it, it's appealing but wouldn't win any beauty contests. My favourite thing about it is that while the body of the kettle does get hot just after a full boil,it's never scalding hot, so quite safe if you accidentally touch it.
