This game first appeared on the pc almost 9 years ago. Why it's taken so long to appear on the DS is beyond me, it seems so suited to the hand-held market.Bookworn DS is a puzzle game in the true sense of the word. Each level sees the player being presented with a grid of square tiles, each with a letter on them. The idea of the game is to create words by joining adjacent tiles. It's a format that is easy to comprehend and understand. Making this game instantly accessible to all.The actual game-play navigation is accomplished by dragging the stylus across the letters on the screen. The word is completed by either tapping the 'submit' button, or by tapping the final letter twice. You are awarded points depending on the length of the word, the speed with which the word was found. The scoring system is simple enough, but the way in which the DS collects them provides an excellent distraction. You can look up your highest scoring word, cross reference the best times and look at other similar stats. This serves no purpose other than to keep records of your game-playing skills. Which is nice, as it helps to see where you can improve. There's a few extras and such that make this game all the more enjoyable however. As you progress though the levels, you are rewarded with new 'rooms' to play in. These are basically different backgrounds/wallpapers. They offer little more than something different to look at, but eliteists will naturally wish to collect all of these. The method of collecting these rooms is a nice touch however.. There are certain hidden words within each book. Finding these words make advancing to the next level possible. If for example you are plaing the cook-book level, certain words such as 'bread' 'baking' and 'sauces' are hidden. Finding them results in bonuses and hidden extras being unlocked.Something interesting that adds to the game-play is the inclusion of 'flaming' tiles. These are little squares that burn through the letters beneath them after each word is made, if they reach the bottom of the grid, you lose. If you use them within a word however, they simply burn away. So, this introduces a nice tactical element to the game and keeps it from becoming too repetitive. These are only present in the 'action' mode however, and if the player chooses to play the 'classic' mode there will be no flaming elements whatsoever. There is a 2player mode. But this consists of little more than simply taking turns to race to a certain score. It's played by linking two DS's, and you need two copys of the game. When all is said and done, Bookworm is a truly addictive puzzle game.It will take you a very long time to fully complete it by collecting all the different in-game books and rooms. The game is well put together, the design and user-interface is very polished, and playing the game is nothing short of an absolute joy.Bookworm is an essential purchase. It's the sort of title that you won't want to trade-in. It loses a star for the weak multiplayer mode, but other than that this is a very decent game indeed, and one that I can wholeheartedly recommend.

Had played bookworm on the PC so thought that I would give it a go on the DS. I have been very happy with the game its very similar to the PC version except that there are libary's of words to find as well eg animals, tools, minerals, sports. The only real problem that I can see is after you get a high score and burn out when playing the DS version rather than the pc version, is that the Ds is much easier to throw than a desk top pc.......lol

When I bought the product it said it had three games on it, I thought they meant different games, because I am after Boodworm Adventures Volume 2 which seems impossible to get (for either the Nintendo DS or my PC). Having said that I really enjoy playing it on the Nintendo and don't feel like sitting at the desk to do it.

I really love Bookworm in all its forms. I fill in odd spare time with my DS and find this game is my favourite. Only minor quibble is that my vocabulary is larger than the game's, but you can't have everything.

After taxing my brain with the Maths Training game it is really nice to just relax with ' Bookworm' and try and make words, I would recommend it to anyone who likes word games.

I love doing word games and found this an excellent stimulant for working the brain. (I'm nearly 70 so thought it would help keep my brain in gear as it were)
