Steel vacuum flasks/tumblers review.Rather than review individually, reckon it more informative to provide comparison of all the ones purchased on Amazon website and are being used. These are :-Contigo Autoseal Stainless Steel Vacuum Insulated Tumbler 470ml(http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001RMGVU8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00)Primus Commuter Mug, 300ml,(http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007DCZ8SC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00)Contigo Aria - Travel Mug with Lock, 600 ml,(http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004REX7GE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00)Bodum Travel Press Set Coffee Maker, Purple, Lime Green + Off White,350ml,(http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0044CJNXK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00)similarly, Bodum Vacuum Travel Mug, Stainless Steel with Black Lid and Band, Small, 0.35 l, 12 oz(http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002ECY206?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00)Which keeps the hottest for longest ? Best one at number 1 below :-1. Contigo Aria - Travel Mug with Lock, 600 ml (obvious really as it has largest volume of hot water to begin with in its container.2. Contigo Autoseal Stainless Steel Vacuum Insulated Tumbler 470ml3. Primus Commuter Mug, 300ml4. All the Bodum's are the same and ranked 4th. The lids are not sealed (there is a tiny vent). They each claim so many hours of keeping hot and so many for cold. I beg to differ and reckon it all depends on ambient temperatures. On average on a winter's night in Southern England 3 hours is maximum of what you could possibly stretch to, to say kept hot in the 470ml Contigo.Although the Contio 470ml juts out the side elasticated pockets of a PacSafe Shoulderbag VentureSafe 300(http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005N0NBSU?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00), it stays in while the bag is worn while walking around and shopping. However, its size got in the way when inserted into the cup holder of one of our cars. (The holder was in front of the gear stick and it was difficult enough trying to insert the tumbler into the holder while the car was stationary - it was too tall and the console below the dash board prevent it from fulling sitting into the holder. This prompted the purchase of the Primus Commuter 300ml insulated tumbler. The short height and the narrow base allowed it to go inside any of the bup holders in any of our cars and could be access with ease while driving. However, the design of the seal in the lid was a problem. It wasn't quite as easy to use as the Contigo but worse, after a zip of a drink, the design of the seal meant a bit of liquid always present in the mechanism (due to water's surface tension etc.). Upon closing the seal, this inevitable liquid shoots out of the hole for drinking. After coffee dropplets spray out of the hole onto steering wheel and dashboard, I gave up using the Primus inside any of the cars. It is relegated for walking trips where it is held in external side pockets of backpacs. The 600ml capacity Contigo was bought for longer car journeys. It has advantages and disadvantages over the 470ml design. The seal is improved with a lock. The button to open the seals now also slides to lock (should you want to) after the seal is shut. The base of the flask has a good silicon rubber ring such that if you accidentally slam it onto a table top too hard, there won't be damage to either. The rubber also makes it less likely to slide of a table on a rolling ship where I often work. But, this rubber and the wider diameter of the flask base (compared to the 470ml Contigo) makes it less easy to slide in and out of the main cup holder (behind the gear stick) although it goes in ok at the big cup holder at the door in another of our cars. The difference between the Bodum Travel Press and their mug is the inclusion of additional lid which has a press - great for coffee drinkers. Works for tea leaves also. In fact, we bought more travel press than mug because they were discounted to lower price than the mug. These Bodums are mainly for indoor use as they are not leak proof. Bought these because they are insulated but also to replace ceramic mugs which kept leaking and cracking. The Bodums all have rubber base. Need a long tea spoon to fish tea bags from the bottom of these mugs. I would say these Bodums are good for about two hours for hot tea. The wider, rubber base makes these lease easy to slide into the main cup holder as compared to the 470ml ContigoIf I had to choose one model, then I would choose the Contigo 470ml (with the narrowing base (because noticed there is a newer 470ml design with base diameter about the same size as the waist)) because the size and design is suited to most situations /cup holders.

I bought the old version of Bodum's Travel Press a couple of years ago and while it was undoubtedly a handy piece of kit (and one that I still use occasionally), it wasn't without its faults. At 0.25 litres, it didn't hold enough water to make what I would consider to be a full mug of coffee and I had to fill it almost to overflowing to get enough of a drink from it. It was a double-wall plastic design, and the two sections came apart after only a few months - although it was still usable, it wouldn't keep drinks warm for any period of time. The plastic that the inner section was made from was plainly not substantial enough to hold hot water and this was proved when it cracked and startedleaking not long after the inner and outer sections had separated. This version of the Travel Press is plainly an immediate improvement over the old one. Not only is it made from double-wall steel rather than plastic - so hopefully preventing the leaking problem - but the volume has been upped to 0.35 litres, which is more than enough for a mug or large cup. A rubber gripping band is secured to the outside of the Press to make it easier to hold and while it does work I don't particularly like the feel of the rubber or the knobbly writing on it. The base of the Press has a similar rubber patch stuck to it and this is really quite effective at stopping it from slipping about on a smooth surface like a desk or worktop. All in all, it's a far better design than the original Press, so it does seem that Bodum have been listening to owners' comments and have acted on them. There are a few other small design changes but in pretty much all other respects, this version works just the same as the old one; you unscrew the cap, put the desired amount of ground coffee into the press, fill it up with hot water and then put the cap back on. Then, after having left your drink to brew for a few minutes, you press down on the plunger on the top, then open the pouring spout and either pour your coffee out or drink it straight from the Press. You can't fully open the spout while the plunger is up as it flips out over the plunger top; this isn't much of a problem as you won't be opening the spout while the plunger is up, but you may decide to close it while the coffee is brewing and before you press the plunger down, so making sure that it's closed before putting the water in is a good idea.In both form and function, the Travel Press operates very much like a cafetière - a rubber-and-plastic, sieve-like disk at the bottom of the plunger pushes the coffee to the bottom of the press as you press down on it, holding the grounds at the bottom as you drink or pour the coffee out. Like the old version, the finest granules do get through the mesh of the sieve so as any seasoned user will tell you, it's best not to drink the bottom centimetre or so of the coffee you pour out unless you really like the taste of `bits'. I use my Press really only as a way to make `proper' coffee at work rather than as a way to transport it out and about, mostly because the spout isn't quite as leak-proof as one might hope and some coffee will come out if the Press is held upside-down. Bodum supplies a second, plunger-less top with the Press that's equally as ineffective as the first at keeping the drink contained. This is a shame, because the Press will keep coffee hot for a good couple of hours; the exterior is cool to the touch even with near-boiling water inside, so the insulation does seem to be quite effective. When I reviewed the original Travel Press, I gave it three stars because while it was pretty good at the job of making coffee, it was evidently less tough than it should have been and this became apparent when it started leaking after relatively little use. This version is a far better design with a couple of small issues that detract only slightly from the overall experience. It's a better proposition than the original and a fine thing if you only want to make, as opposed to carry around, a nice cup of coffee.

Until I bought this, I was spending a fortune buying a coffee every afternoon (£1.60 for a black Americano). It doesn't sound like much, but it adds up over the years.I work in an office where there are no kitchen facilities, so making a coffee with fresh grounds is very difficult. Now I have this travel press, I put the coffee grounds in, and simply fill it with hot water in the afternoon for an easy (and cheap) cup of black coffee. Once done, I simply close it up and pop it into my backpack. It's reasonably water tight - you have to make sure it doesn't go upside down in your bag, otherwise you may see a little coffee escape.I only use it once per day and clean it when I get home. For me,it's paid for itself in only two weeks and now I'm saving a fortune.

My wife is two things: Impossible to buy gifts for, and a hardcore coffee drinker. I bought this for her for Christmas a few years back and canhonestly say it has been used every day, whether at home or while we've been travelling or camping. It stays hot for more than a minute - I have made coffee for her and taken two busses across town to deliver it, still warm. It fits in the cup holder of the car, securely. And it comes with a second lid, so you don't have to bump your nose on the plunger thingy, or if you're just using it for instant coffee.I feel safer knowing that she's never without a decent cup of coffee, and slightly chuffed that she actually liked it!

-checked other similar items but decided on this as bodum products are usually pretty dependable.-was not disappointed - well constructed and I like the stainless steel container-keeps coffee at a good temperature for a few hours-needs to be kept upright though as leaks from plunger area-plunger does unscrew at times when opening up to clean, however not a major issue-no problem putting milk in little slot on top-small enough however i have found that i am drinking less coffee as i can sip away at it while i work in the morning and don't have to add more coffee to warm it up

Second gift purchase of one of these and very well received. Recipient of first one I bought has gone on to purchase more for family members. Just remember that this could be used in a car cup holder (check the fit before purchase if this function is important to you) , but it is not 'bag safe', i.e will leak if lying down / inverted. If you need 'bag safe' travel mug, check out Contigo, cannot recomnend highly enough, but they don't do a cafetiere version (at least not yet, but I live in hope). Paid full price for this no favours, so honest and independent review.

I previously owned the plastic version of this and although it was a great concept the materials were simply not up to standard as after 8 months of daily use it eventually cracked and started leaking. Since then I bought this and it has exceeded my expectations! Incredibly sturdy, stylish design, makes great coffee without getting granules in you're beautifully made coffee. Keeps it hot for absolutely ages also, I can make coffee, forget about it and burn my tongue on it 45 minutes later!Top quality product and a brilliant purchase!

Very pleased with the mug the press works very well it seems that I make better coffee than my one I use at home. The lid seals very well and dose not leak I have even knocked it over and not spilt a drop. It keeps the coffee hot for a long time and the opening on the lid lets out a decent amount liquid per swig. The press seals very well and doesn't let any of the coffee granules past when you drink. The mug its self holds enough for a decent brew. The spare lid is a bonus if you don't always want to use the press.

I'm in love with this french press. I keep it at work, and brew myself a coffee when I first get in the office. The flask keeps the coffee hot for hours, which means I can pour myself a small cup straight away, and forget about it. Then an hour later, I can pour myself another, and it's still just as hot. I'll admit I'm a little lazy, and being able to have hot coffee through out the morning, without leaving my desk is something I appreciateIt looks gorgeous too

I have two of these now and I utterly love them. I love really good coffee and having the ability to take it with me wherever I go is great. It does keep the coffee incredibly hot, so I tend to find I have to pour it into a mug to drink it. I once burnt my lip after it had been in the travel press for 3 hours. I thought it may have cooled by then! But that's no bad thing, I make coffee for myself ready for the afternoon! Would highly recommend it! :-)

9.1.2015

This travel press work great !There's a set of instructions in the box. If you follow them carefully, you will be able to get the most from this French press. Be especially careful not to put too much water, stir the coffee and press without forcing. Three easy steps that will help you make the best coffee, without any leakage. The choice of coffee is obviously very important, but I'll leave that to everyone's individual tastes.

I wanted to have a real coffee drink for on my desk without too much fuss. This way you can do without a cafetiere and a mug on the desk and just have the Bodum. Good to avoid spills.Be careful - this keeps drinks very hot, which I like but I burnt my mouth the first time I used it.Like the option of the alternative lid to be able to make other drinks. My colleagues are now thinking of getting one :o) Fully recommend this product

Just what I wanted. Have used nearly every day since I got it 10 months ago and still as good as new. I have saved myself a fortune on takeout coffees! One very small criticism.... you need to be very careful closing the lid. The first few times I thought the product was faulty as it was leaking slightly. The top just needs to be screwed good and tight and a quick tilt to make sure it's not leaking. It's a super cup though!!!

6.2.2016

Love my travel mug! Works as expected... delicious warm coffee on the go. Down sides? Inherent to the design (for safety reasons) it is not completely leak proof! Do not leave it sideways... it needs some 'venting' to release steam from hot drinks. Second, the size is misleading. It's size suggests it has a bigger capacity. The insulation robs quite a bit of space... (although the volume is stated in the prod description)

3.4.2013

If you like your coffee it is worthwhile, the only downside is after plunging you have to put the milk in through the hole you drink from which isn't large and you can't stir it. But it is ok doing that not a big issue, still worth it if you love a coffee on the go.They do stay hot for a long time. We have this and also one without a plunge, they are the best travel mugs on the market in my opinion
