RIM have evolved the Blackberry to a great new pinnacle with the Bold 9900. It is by far the best Blackberry so far. I moved to this model from the Torch 9800 after finding that having to use the slider to constantly access the keyboard becoming a bit of a pain, the touchscreen keyboard not being sufficient. The implementation of the new OS 7 is very good and strikes the right balance between use of a touch screen and a keyboard. Finally a browser that is useable and easy to use to navigate around a web page. Still though not as good as an Iphone browser but much improvement on previous iterations from RIM. Also much faster. The use and retention of the arrow pointer and trackpad is essential, well implemented and still in my opinion is the best of all smartphones. As expected all the usual options and layout for a Blackberry device. No fault or deficit on that front. The keyboard I must say is much better than on previous versions, with nice wide keys and good travel in the keys allowing for swift typing bordering on touch typing. This is still the great and positive differentiator from the rival Iphone - use of a physical keyboard is not better as yet by any onscreen versions on other smartphones such as Iphone / Samsung / HTC or other RIM models either. The build quality is precise, elegant and refined. The case is a nice weight for holding and thumb typing. I would advise getting a case to protect the nice stainless steel edge of the phone though. The camera is a good improvement to 5MP but unfortunately lacks autofocus, which is a big deficit in this premium end of market phone. The HD recording at 720p is also a good addition. Finally, the only reason for a lower than 5/5 rating is the bug bear of the battery life. It really was awful when I got it. The phone barely made it through the workday (8 hours) before needing a charge. Good thing is at least the charger has been shrunk to a small USB version not much larger than a UK plug socket with accompanying USB to MicroUSB lead.Thankfully after some reading on online forums and visiting RIM's website. I managed to upgrade the OS to the latest version. This made a positive change on the battery life. It is now getting through most of the day without a charge under reasonable use - couple hours of talk/IM use, 3G switched on and browsing (light) and bluetooth headset linked use.So, was it worth the upgrade cost - yes ! Very much so, and I think I have a smartphone now that is a good competitor to the other smartphones on the market finally. The battery life issue could be a killer issue, but it is solvable as above, or by just getting a second battery which is relatively cheap.Read full review...

This Blackberry Bold 9900 isn't worth the big price point RIM retail for. Let me explain why; first of all the so called '1.2ghz processor', I upgraded from a Torch 9800 purely for the fact that I thought this Bold would be faster less lagey and wouldn't see the 'tick box' merely as much when it freezes, however I was proved wrong, within a week it was showing signs of being show and I hardly even use many Apps on there just Facebook,Twitter & BBM. Not to mention I am a heavy user, and I take the Bold off charge at 7am I keep it in my pocket but take it out a maximum of 4-5 times quickly to reply to a msg or check the time, by around 3:00pm my battery is orange and on the journey home it even drains and I have to put it on charge as soon as I get home!I have upgraded my software bundle to 2406 as os 7.1 isn't available in the UK yet but yet still, horrible battery life! And the camera, well is appauling! It has NO auto-focus, and can't even change effects e.g. Black and white etc. So much for 'RIM's flagship model', I am SOO glad I paid £200.00 for this on EBay and not £549.99 in Carphone Warehouse. Users if you can find it for the £200 price point and REALLY need a Blackberry then buy it, anymore then £200 and your getting ripped off and you might as well just buy a Bold 9860 or 9700 or 9780 cos they are better and much more reliable! I'm going to wait and see what RIM come out with in late 2012 with Blackberry10 and if your a serious Blackberry user, I suggest you do too! The only positives are; it looks damn sexy! The carbon fibre back attracts eyes when using it in public! Its very thing and light n feels great in the hand! The little icons have much improved and so has the screen and pixel dentity however I do see checkerboarding when I'm browsing the web and not on Wi-Fi. The keyboard is fantastic too! And the glowing trackpad jus adds a little sexy touch! And that's it, all the positives really come from the aesthetics and looks of the phone rather than what's inside, I think RIM knew that what they put inside was rubbish so made up for it by making this phone look damn sexy! As for me, I'm using an iPhone 4s in white now which is A LOT better, performance wise and apps wise and battery wise! However I may upgrade to Blackberry10 when it does evenually come out! Hope this review helped guys as I've had an awful experience using this unreliable waste of money! Thanks :)Read full review...

Having received the new Blackberry Bold 9900 today I am happy to report that most of the major flaws of the previous Bold family have been fixed. The web browser is snappy and responsive, the touchscreen is easy to use, fluid and a delight (no doubt because of the Snapdragon CPU). The phone is very thin for a Blackberry and the fact that it's got a touchscreen as well is particularly impressive given the brick-like feel of the Torch. The camera is a huge step forward from the camera in my old 9700, however, it still has a way to go to match up to the superior iPhone 4 camera (and most likely the iPhone 5 that is forthcoming). The major strength, as always with Blackberry,is the keyboard which is a return to form. The keyboard is the same size and feel that we had in the old Bold 9000 and it's fantastic! For Blackberry users, the Bold 9900 is amazing and represents a great deal of engineering and research by RIM to produce a phone that is functional, stylish and a joy to use. For users of iPhone and Android however, RIM has yet to make a phone which is as comprehensive or as forward thinking as iOS and Android are. RIM has a ready made consumer pool for its phones; we all love Blackberrys and I personally wouldn't move to another manufacturer. However, RIM fails to develop phones that will make users want to switch from Android or iOS and that's where the money is. It is my feeling that although the Bold 9900 is a huge step forward, anyone switching from iOS or Android will most likely miss some of the features they've come to know and love in their previous platform.I highly recommend this phone to anyone with an older Blackberry - get it and you won't look back. For iOS and Android users I'd recommend borrowing a friend's phone to test drive it first because you'll either love Blackberry or think it's antiquated and a touch passé.Read full review...

Have always loved this phone since it first came out. Love the ability to have both the keybpard and the touchscreen. I have never been a big fan of 100 percent touchscreen im sure its great, i just cant get used to it so with the Blackberry Bold 9900 you get the best of both worlds.Another reason i prefer the BB instead of all the new (very expensive)iphones etc is i dont really use apps, all i really use my phone for is calls, texts, facebook, google and music. The wifi and bluetooth are very good and it connects up to my car perfectly. The Blackberry 9900 comes with 8gb of built in storage which im sure some people would find that to be not alot and i guess they would be correct.Again for the reasons above i do not need loads of memory but for a few pounds i purchased a 32gb sd card so this gives me all the space i will ever need.Another great couple of functions is the 5mp camera which i find takes excellent pictures. I also have a nice set of headphones for outside and the sound is pretty good. This could be improved but when in the car connected to my radiosat it plays crystal clear and loud.In summary i really should upgrade to an iphone or a samsung but my blackberry bold 9900 does all i need it to do and i am not tied down to a one or two year contract. In my opinion the blackberry bold gets a 9/10 for my needs.Read full review...

This is a very good phone. I decided to go for a Blackberry Bold because I was having a lot of problems with call quality with my Samsung Galaxy S2 and one of my neighbours was having similar problems with a Samsung Galaxy S4.All of a sudden I now have a full signal and I can make calls again. It seems EE are doing a lot of mast sharing since the T-Mobile and Orange tie up and rather than the signal getting stronger it has had the opposite effect.Anyway back to the Blackberry, it seems it is optimised for making calls, unlike a lot of smartphones and yet it does everything functionally a smartphone can do. Some people might regard a Blackberry as old technology but it does everything really well.Battery life is 48 hours instead of 10 hours which comes in very handy when I am away from home, doing shows and attending festivals.Texting is significantly slower but the keyboard is easy to use with good quality buttons. If not having the battery run down when you are out and about is important to you then the Blackberry Bold is a good alternative to a full screen smartphone. You will still be able to text, email and browse. The GPS which is provided by TomTom for free also works really well. All in all very well thought out with good materials and feel. It feels like it will last a long time.Read full review...

The best BlackBerry Bold ever? Perhaps it is. The core features of BlackBerry are still compelling, the keyboard will let you skip over keys rattling out messages, with a rock of the thumb here and a glancing prod there, in ways that only BlackBerry users understand. The addition of a touchscreen does make a difference, but the overall experience isn’t a huge evolution from BB6. Whilst BB7 is familiar, there isn’t much here that really drives things forward into the competitive arena. The camera results are behind the rivals, the app offering still has holes in it and sometimes the touch response slopes off. It isn’t a multimedia timewaster in the way that the latest phone from Samsung or HTC is,its core offering is communication, in which it mostly excels, but it’s in the extras where it doesn’t make huge progress. The BlackBerry Bold 9900 is a device that will appeal greatly to die hard BlackBerry fans, returning the Bold to a premium look and a size that makes a little more sense than the 9700 models. Business users will find themselves with a more interactive device and a better browsing experience, but outside of keyboard and email experience, consumers may find they get a lot more smartphone for their money elsewhere.Read full review...

The Bold 9900 has an EXCELLENT keyboard, extremely easy to type out an email response or even a semi long email to a business contact or friend. Good for fast response to text messages etc.The downside to this device is it's lack of features and its cost. The camera is rather poor quality for a 5mp phone camera, when compared with other 5mp cameras which have far superior image quality, far better and more intelligent flash, touch to focus, etc. I use the camera quite a lot and find myself taking a separate camera with me now as I am very unhappy with the built in image quality. This is one thing I never had to do when I was using high end Samsung phones. Now that said,I did get this phone predominantly for the keyboard, and it has been amazing. Even someone middle aged with large thumbs can learn to type extremely fast and accurate on this full qwerty keyboard, and thus far I've not found a touch screen keyboard that could keep up, even with their fancy auto correction features. All in all, a great phone! A little on the expensive side in comparison to phones with similar specs, and it could do with a bit faster processing, but I'm sure future models will fix this.Read full review...

Dear all,Here is my story, nowadays everyone want to buy an Iphone, why ? Is it the best ? Everyone has his opinion. I wanted to try something different than the average. I went so for a blackberryI've been using this phone for now 1 month. It is a well designed Blackberry with nice chrome finitions that give a luxury look to the phone. Ergonomics of the keyboard is amazing and you should never miss a key. However it is quite loud when you write. The touch screen is also nice and almost perfect reaction to your fingers. However as blackberry user you'll be more likely to use the mousepad in the middle. The most negative point is, as far as I am concerned, the low battery capacity,or the high consumption of energy of the phone ! Indeed, even if you cut every single applications the phone lost its battery (10% in 1h30 after fully charged) It is really its weakness and I am quite disapointed about this.On the other hand you have the higher product in Blackberry Range (after the P 9981 of course) so once you'll find how to use it properly you should be satisfied !Hope my experience will help.Read full review...

I recently decided to upgrade my phone from a Blackberry Curve 9320 to the Blackberry Bold 9900, what can I say? Well, the first thing you notice is the quality, it's heavy and feels great in your hands. The stainless steel chassis looks amazing, real quality look and feel. The Keyboard is bigger than the Curve and much easier to use, again with a quality feel to it. The 9900 Bold is also extremely fast to use, much quicker than the 9320 Curve. With the Bold's larger screen I found it much easier to do everything on this phone, no squinting required to read and internet browsing was a dream. Setting up the phone was extremely easy, I uploaded existing settings and contacts from my Curve to the Blackberry Protect service, then reinstalled the data to my new phone. Overall, the Bold is an excellent unit, highly recommended for existing Blackberry owners who are familier 'tinkering' with the multitude of options and settings which are a feature on Blackberry devices. (Setting up the phone from new may be difficult for the uninitiated!) Five Stars!Read full review...

The Bold 9900 was really great when first released. It was designed to get things done, push email, decent keyboard, great battery life, a camera, expandable storage..Blackberry OS has its issues but the OS is simple and does the basics. I am not a fan of OS 10, it seems overly complex and i really miss a back button. the Bold had OS 7 which is simpler. This phone is not for social media addicts, forget instagram, facebook etc, this is a phone for email, text and phone calls.Android and IOS are not very secure they leak your data all over the internet. Blackberry's are much better at this and they don't track your every move.So even now, i still use the Bold. The battery lasts for nearly three days, its small and easy to carry, handles text and phone calls very well and has options for note taking, todo lists etc. If you need a secure basic device for call and text it is still great.Read full review...

I don't know about you guys but I am one of the physical qwerty keybaord fan. This is the best choice if you are stil one of them. The build quality of of this phone is exellent which made me buy it. The stainless steel frame that surrounds the phone does bring it's executive blackberry look and professionalism. The physical keyboard is said to be the best found in the blackberry series. The keys are very soft and you can type easily. The battery seems to be a problem (not for me) but you can find a 2500mah battery and replace with the short lived 1250mah which is inside. Screen looks more detailed with higher pixel density. At the end of the day you might feel happy using this phone because of its simplicity.

Best phone i have ever had. The combination of a touchscreen and a keyboard is unbeatable for me and makes texting/emailing/surfing the web very easy. It's super thin so really looks great and feels much more solid than the BlackBerrys of the past. It's also much faster/snappier than previous phones and can finally handle half-decent graphics if you're into games etc. Hopefully more apps will be developed now that the phone and OS can handle it.Battery life at the beginning was awful, but with any Li-ion battery you just charge it as often as you can and this way capacity seems to increase; i can now have the phone last almost 2 days, compared to just 8 hours when i first bought it.Buy it.....it rocks!
