This (and it's sequel; Dark Stories) is one of the best ice-breaker games I have ever played. It's a simple premise; a sentence long story is printed on one side of the card e.g. "It took a man three hours to drown." (Don't worry, that isn't a spoiler from the game!) Then on the other side of the card a longer explanation of the story is printed e.g. "A man was walking on the beach when he got stuck in quicksand. Shortly after the tide starting to come in. He struggled but that only made him more stuck. After three hours the tide had become too high for him to escape and the man drowned."In the game one person (or a team) reads the simple story aloud before also reading the explanation. The other person (or team) then get to ask 'yes' or 'no' questions about the situation in order to uncover the full story. The person/people who know the story can also answer with 'yes', 'no' or words similar to 'misleading' or 'irrelevant' to keep things on track. And that's it. Very simple. The real value of this game comes in its ability to get all sorts of people involved.People who like the challenge of the puzzle can play 1 to 1 with the card-holder requiring every detail of the full story from the player asking. It also works very well as a team game with lots of people guessing the solution and the other team working out whether or not they need more information. You can play it as a non-competitive group with one person reading out the story and everyone else guessing. It's a great small-talk device as well. Why not read the card at the beginning of a train journey/date/party etc. and then talk through the possible solutions as you go about your day? There's no time limit. It also benefits from encouraging shy or uncertain players to join in. In a group then there is no pressure to be correct in your questioning and as it is a talking game, players who may be discouraged by games with heavy strategy etc. could feel more comfortable getting involved. And for those who don't want to talk too much, listening to the ridiculous scenarios suggested as people struggle to find the real story is its own entertainment.I heartily recommend this game for all sorts of situations and hope it finds its way to more people!

I bought this as a gift on the recommendation of a German colleague. What is it? It is a pack of cards with a riddle on each card, for example "A woman dies because she was on the phone too long. How did it happen?". One person turns the card over and reads the answer (not out loud). The rest of the group ask questions, which can be answered "yes", "no" or "irrelevent" and have to find out the circiumstances of the death. Some are relatively easy, some are extremely lateral. The answer to the question above is that the woman was taking her car home from the garage after having it serviced. The garage were trying to call her on her mobile to warn her there had been a mistake and the brakes hadn't been fixed properly. The woman was too busy on the phone talking to her friend (on hands-free of course) and never took the call or listened to her voice-mail. As a result she wrapped the car around a tree and killed herself. That riddle kept a group of adults and teenagers occupied for about 30 minutes before they worked out the answer (with a few hints). There are 50 such riddles in the box so the longevity is quite good, even though you can't really re-use the cards with the safe group of friends. If you're looking for a cerebral party game which is definitely a different to Pictionary or Trivial Pursuit, then I highly recommend this.

First played with Hungarian friends at new year, it is an excellent thought provoking, think outside the box bounce ideas off each other mystery quiz that will get conversation going and prompt ridiculous suggestions that can turn out to be right. That version was in the original german, so, we just had to get the UK version to try out at our Caravan rally weekends.Other than this, you cannot get so much intellectual group fun from such a small box for less than a tenner. Go get it!

As a teacher, I always try to look for new materials I can use in class. Especialy since I have to teach about urban legends, this is fantastic. The students love it and change from 'bored' teenagers in enthusiastic detectives.Apart from classroom material, it is also highly enjoyable to play with friends. Of course you can only do the riddles once, because once you know the clue, you know which questions to ask.

It really makes you think! Very cool game to guess the hypothetical situations. I have played it invaded in our daily routine, and continued investigating while doing other things. Quite useful in quarantine when you don't have much more to talk about in your household!

I purchased this to use within the context of teaching English to adult students. It is fabulous at getting even shy students to speak and ask questions to figure out the riddle. It is also fun, of course, and challenging.

One of my favourite games in the world! I just don't like the name "black stories", I guess it should be renamed to "dark stories." Relating the colour black to creepiness and crimes is no good for anyone.

Most of the stories are quite interesting and hard to guess. It's an excellent choice if you often get stuck and out of ideas of what to do when friends come over and you're fed up with drinking games.

Such a fun game and everyone gets really into it. The only bad thing about it is that you can only play the cards once with the same people - would have to buy extended versions to keep playing.

This game lasts for a long time, but be warned: this game can drive your friends crazy! This also demands the players to speak, so this is a great game for socializing. Quick delivery as well!

Really fun game, but can get limited amount of use out of it due to the nature of questions and answers. Well worth a go though. Played with friends and family and generally a hit.

we were surprised that these odd stories engaged our late teenagers and filled a few evenings with fun . Once you know the stories then you can really use with same people.

Played this game at Xmas, really liked it and found it quite challenging so I bought it. But it is not something you can play again and again with the same people.

Product that meets perfectly my expectations. Matches its description.I'm going to use this game with my classes to make them practise their English.
