These markers are not cheap but they do do the job (do do?) I tested them on cardboard, paper and masking tape but it was on glass that I was most impressed. I followed the advice of another reviewer and left at least 2 seconds after marking the glass surface - then tried to smear the black writing - nothing! then I immediately washed the surface with a plastic scourer/sponge impregnated with washing up liquid - still not smearing! I'd used the sharp end of the chisel tip and then the broader stroke - using the latter the amount of coverage/opacity was noticeably less. I then put one more than one layer on the glass - which took longer to dry and was only partially opaque - finally I carefully (so as not to disturb the other two layers)put one more layer on the glass - after a few more seconds I washed the glass again and the now totally opaque mark was unmoved - impressive! Along with another reviewer I was inclined to try and put the top back on upside down - but the tops' odd shape does stop the marker from rolling away ( that's if you've put the top back on of course) Also, as other reviewers have mentioned, there is a noticeable smell from the markers which I found irritating/worrying in case they are solvent based - so I have only used them for short periods and in a well ventilated area - this is the reason for the 4 stars

These are really useful, as they pretty much write on anything. The tips is not too wide. So you can write reasonable small with it, but it's no fine point. Useful for signage, school clothing/bags/shoes, buckets, freezer bags, those large plastic storage boxes and even glass, which is surprising.. with glass, you need to leave for a few minutes and then it should be pretty permanent. They also don't seem to find, which is great for anything outside, particularly signage. I have a load of plastic storage boxes in the loft that hold Christmas decorations and looking to label them all up this coming Christmas, ready to go back into the loft. I found them handy for marking up the spray bottles that I use for car cleaning chemicals, when I have to water them down for use. A further use is marking your gardening things like lawnmower, jet wash and even some tools for security purposes. Less likely to get stolen then. The design of the cap means that the pen will not roll away, which is very handy indeed. The smell from the pen is pretty strong, so be mindful in enclosed places and using for too long a period. These are very good markers and worth the money. Just don't let you kids get hold of them.

I received this item through the Amazon Vine programme. These are good marker pens that I suspect Bic are looking to challenge the ubiquitous "Sharpie" in the marketplace. Currently selling at £18 for a box of 12 pens, £1:50 each, isn't a bad price but is dearer than you can get the opposition for. However the Bic pen has some advantages if you are considering them for the workplace: the chisel tip is excellent, allowing you to draw a variety of thicknesses of line, and appears quite strong so should last and not deteriorate into a "paintbrush" tip. The pens are metal-bodied and feel good in the hand. There is no pocket clip: I've never used them anyway but it may be important to you.The ink is permanent and writes on most surfaces: I've used them on rough sawn timber with good effect. The cap fits with a firm click and stays on: it wont come off in your pocket. The cap also has a small wedge in its shape which I suspect is designed to discourage the pen from rolling off inclined surfaces: a good idea that doesn't completely work, a flat side on the pen's body would have worked better, but it's better than nothing. These are good pens and are worth their asking price.

You get a simple cardboard box containing twelve metal-bodied felt pens with black plastic lids, and the bit that holds the felt tip itself is black plastic firmly mounted to the metal body. The felt tip is wedge shaped so you can write with a variety of line thicknesses. These are described as "pro" pens and I wonder exactly what that means? The lids are interesting in that they stop the pens rolling away, but wouldn't be suitable for children or anyone who might swallow the lid and choke on it - unlike many pens, you can't breath through the lid on these pro pens.Of course your child choking on one of these pens is just one of the issues if they manage to get their hands on them - the ink isextremely hard to remove so you'll want to store them somewhere safe. The box of twelve pens costs quite a bit, but the price per pen seems quite reasonable at just a fraction under £1.50 - given their quality and likely very long life. In fact I doubt whether I actually need a dozen of these pens - one will last me very many years, but I guess this sort of quantity that you might need if you're stocking an office.

I use these permanent marker pens primarily for labelling plants, using an old stock of those white plastic plant labels (I am not buying any new ones – trying to go as plastic-free as possible in the garden now). It’s a bit of an experiment. Other permanent marker pens that I have used for this purpose have appeared to be fine, but 6 months later the white labels are simply white labels, with no ink to be seen. It’s early days still for these particular marker pens. They write easily on plastic, and the ink is still there despite being out in many rain showers, as well as in direct sunshine, damp, dew etc. The chisel tip is useful – it’s easy to write at the size I want for this purpose, but also easy to make writing much bolder/blockier.I’ve been trying these for labelling stuff going in the freezer too. Again, seems to work fine, and the low temperature doesn’t seem to have caused an issue so far.I’ll update this review after the winter regarding the resilience of ink on plastic labels left outside for prolonged period, but so far so good.

I was looking forward to getting these as I wanted to use them on some glass jars. But sadly they wiped straight off the glass with a tissue and a little water. I tried writing on a plastic bag and the marker rubbed off with a dry tissue. I had much better luck on a metal aerosol can, it would take effort to remove it. I’ve marked my plastic cutting mat and again I’d say it was pretty permanent. I have no doubt it would permanently mark anything porous like wood, cardboard and paper. So a bit hit and miss.To be fair, I’ve never found a marker that was able to withstand any amount of cleaning or rubbing on glass or china. The pens have a very strong smell, so I would advise using in a well ventilated room.Overall, they are good markers with a nice deep colour and no blobbing even on glass or metal. I’m happy to recommend them.

Needed these for marking shipping boxes and labels and for both purposes they work brilliantly. Bold and clear on a cardboard box without fading away or smudging and thin and clear on small white labels. A box of 12 is going to last a decent time as well, so a very good deal for this box, I think. These markers are permanent and being resistant to water is a bonus. The tip is chiselled for various writing methods from thick to thin using it at different angles. I really like the finish to the outer case of these marks as well being a metallic brushed silver. They can be used on a load of different surfaces as well from wood, to glass, plastic indoor and outdoor. The smell is quite strong but not a deterrent.BIC has always been a quality brand and I am very happy with this box of quality markers.

These pens are heavy-duty and professional quality right out of the box, with a metallic casing that gives the pens a proper workshop-ready, toolbox look and feel. They are comfortable inking up pretty much anything and everything, and so far they've done an excellent, no-smudge job here. The ink is a satisfyingly dark jet black, and applies smoothly and evenly. The chisel tip is thick and strong, so shouldn't buckle or fray at the fibres for a fair bit of use. Finally, the top is handily designed to prevent rolling off a surface, so it's perfect for workshop / garden / kitchen use.At the current price point, they come in at less than a pound each, which is pretty good value for a long-term supply of these.Reliable, durable and effective.

These marker pens are great - they will write on virtually anything and the ink stays in place. However on shiny surfaces it will take a few seconds to dry. They are solvent-based, so don't use in an enclosed area. I like the metal body, which you don't get on a cheaper pen which will make them durable. The chisel tips are sharply defined if you need that kind of precision - I usually write with just one corner though. My one criticism is the lid - which I always try to put on the wrong way around, you can put the wide end of the lid on the end of the pen, but if you don't its tapered shape does mean it won't roll away.

I found these to be good quality marker pens. They work well on many surfaces but not glass - it can wipe off easily. The ink dries quickly and it is a deep black colour.I move house regularly so get through quite a few marking up moving boxes! This pack of 12 will see me through a few moves so I think they are value for money.

These are great for all the surfaces I tried and after an hour or so is hard to rub off. There is quite a strong odour from these pens.Just keeps away from children or everything will be ruined by scribbles!

If you need a big chunky black marker pen then this is the thing to buy.Works perfectly.Lasts a long time and best for writing labels and notices. The chisel tip makes it possible to write in a neat style.

This marker pen is brilliant. You don't just get a black smudgy blob, like with some such items, but a clear clean imprint.I used this for several dozen packing boxes and it didn't dry up once.

Seriously permanent, even on glass. Not to be confused with other markers making "permanent" claims, these ones are the real deal. Easy to use, very durable writing and seem to last well.

With a chisel tip, these permanent markers are easy to write with and they will be put to full use in my schoolteacher girlfriend's classroom during arts and crafts lessons.
