(FYI, in case it's not clear, as the product page shows more than one product, this is a review of the Beurer Unisex EM39 Abdominal and Back Muscle Ems Toning Belt, Black, One Size)...achieve:- 'a powerful, slim and attractive body' (this made me laugh, but I think it's a literal translation from the German in which the instructions are originally written.- warming up muscles- muscle definition- muscle and skin toning, and- muscle relaxation. This can also be used in EMS (electrical muscle stimulation) rehab, maintaining muscle strength and mobility of the inactive body part. It's gentle on tendons and joints, so particularly suitable for gentle rehab. There is a whole, long list of Dos and Don'ts,that unless adhered to, can cause serious injury to the body, and even life, so you need to read this leaflet carefully before use. I will post a picture here, as exclusions don't appear on the product page, and you may end up buying something you can't use. This works very much like Slendertone abs toners, but unlike Slendertone, you don't have to fork out for those sticky gel pads, so in addition to the Beurer being a lot cheaper in terms of the product itself, there are no add-ons that have to be regularly bought - you just need to make sure that the little black discs are still in place when you remove the belt.It says that the product should not be used more than once a day for the first week, in order to allow muscles to get used to the exercise, and recover. After a week's use, training can be upped. This takes 3 AAA batteries, which are supplied, and there are 5 programmes included, which start with low-time (22 mins), low-intensity (45-50 Hz) programme A, rising to E, which lasts for 31 mins and has continuous repetitions and a training frequency of 80 Hz. You can self-programme, but the belt is set to automatically move to the next intensity once you've started off with A and have done a number of training cycles. You can lower the intensity of the training cycles whilst in use, by using the - button, or turn it off (simply by pressing the On/Off button for 2 seconds). There's also a pause key (II), that my far more expensive Slendertone belt doesn't have, meaning that with this on, I can pause and pop to the bathroom, and not have to come back and restart training. With Slendertone, multiple users can use the same belt, by inserting their own set of gel pads (obviously, for reasons of hygiene), which can be removed and reattached to the backing pads to be reused. With this model, there's no need for gel pads, simply a hygienic wipe of the electrodes and pads, which go straight onto the skin. Therefore, this is more economical and less faffy than Slendertone. We're currently testing this out on my husband who has lower back pain. The belt can be used for waistlines up to 140cm, so the pads fit securely on his wide back. The width is adjustable via the elasticated straps of the product. So far he hasn't experienced any discomfort using this, but he will need to use it over a period of time to see the benefits. And, as the belt has the same front and back pads, it means that his stomach muscles will be getting a workout at the same time, so bonus! There's an additional, not very professional-looking leaflet enclosed, which goes on about enclosed self-adhesive covers - all it means is that there are 2p-sized discs of sticky black material that may have become detached during transport/packaging, and that these need to be attached to the exposed metal electrodes before use. I've attached an image for ease of understanding, lol!I will update the review idc, but at first glance, it does do what is says it does in terms of rehabbing/relaxing muscles (possibly also due to the heat generated?), though the stomach area might need a good few more sessions to see/feel results. Overall, though, it's around half the price of the cheapest Slendertone, so I'm impressed.

I am reviewing the Beurer EM39 Abs and Back toning belt, for the record my waist size is 32” and I found that I had ample of left over strap, so much so I probably could have fitted another me in there if it was set to its maximum length. That said I found it hard on one of the sides to hide the left over strap. One side has a handy loop to tuck unwanted strap away yet the other side doesn’t and it just hangs there….clearly a design fault!Talking of design fault, why in the world would you make the power button one light press to turn on??? Every time I put this away It would turn back on as the power button would press against something,Beurer if you are reading please for future belts make the power button a press and hold for 2 seconds to turn on, I mean you have to hold it down to turn off!Speaking of locks you can actually lock the device once it is on which is something, holding the P button down will lock the belt which stops you accidently pressing any of the buttons when in use.One other fault and them I am done with the negative. The LCD screen is unreadable in the dark! That’s it I’m done now as apart from all the above I do like this belt. The belt comes with 3 AAA batteries which are easily fitted to the centre console. You can chose to use the back, front or both at the same time and what you will get is a pulse sent through your skin which can be extremely pleasant (more so on you back than front). I suffer from lower back pain and I found this perfect to ease away pain while in use and pretty well after. I won’t lie, after one session was other I started again because it was that pleasant. This isn’t gel related and instead advises the user to wet the patches which means the only thing you have to worry about replacing is batteries.**Important**I noticed that one of the reviewers commented that it electrocuted her husband, now I don’t know the circumstances behind this as there is nothing more added about what happened however in the fear of danger I decided to do a few experiments to see what I could work out. If the belt is not on correctly with all pads touching the skin you may receive a shock rather than a pulse! It’s very unpleasant and can be instantly avoided! If you start to turn up the intensity and don’t feel a pulse when you press the button turn it off and check the below!* You have moistened the electrodes and your back and stomach* All of the covers (Spares are provided) on the electrode connection are covered and nothing is exposed* You have the belt on correctly as picture shows with your belly button where the console would be and the front and back not to one side. The belt has 5 programmes A-E which set different frequency’s, reps and times. It is suggested to use the belt only once a day for the first month to allow your body to get used to it. The intensity ranges from 1 to 40 however I stay around the 20 mark. This belt has really made me feel comfortable when my back has started to ache and has even helped me relax after a long day on my feet. A few tiny issues which should be addressed with the company above but I am very happy with this product which even after early uses has proved its worth.

[Reviewed by Mrs O'] The first thing to say about the EM32 Abdominal Muscle Toning Belt by Beurer is that it is simple to use, good value and doesn't need any gel pads for long-term usage. I loved the 2 water contact electrodes, which make life a lot easier, work effectively (by wetting the electrodes themselves and your skin where they will make contact) and reduce extra costs for ongoing use, unlike my old one from the market leader. One thing to note though for whole cost of long-term usage is that you can't use re-chargeable batteries in the unit, so an ongoing supply of AAA batteries will be needed, thankfully the unit comes with its first set,so can be used out of the box (once you've fitted the batteries which is very straightforward to do); I can't comment yet on how long they will last, but I'm hopeful they will be good for a long time, but time will tell!So to the belt...it comes with easy to read instructions which detail the use and functionality of the unit, as well as a long list of medical condition exclusions for belt usage, so definitively worth a double check before buying if you have a medical condition. I do find it a bug bear when manufacturers / sellers aren't clear on their product pages about medical exclusions, which you only find out once you've made the effort to purchase the product, so will attach a photo of the exclusions to help prospective purchasers - also useful (and a bit funny) to note that Beurer say the unit "is only designed for use by healthy adults", which rules out swathes of the population! Clearly you have to use your own judgement as the manufacturers are definitely covering their backs with a statement like that! The unit seems well made and the belt is a generous enough for all shapes and sizes and is comfortable to wear. The LCD screen at the top of the unit (which you can see when you're wearing it) which clearly shows you the relevant information, such as programme and intensity. It also comes with a handy lock function, that prevents accidental setting change and the ability to pause the programme if you need to. I'm only on the first of five levels, which starts at 22 mins (including muscle warm up and warm down). You set your own intensity, to however you feel comfortable - I started at 10 and will increase this as I get used to the unit as I work through the programmes - and the tingly feeling and contractions are not unpleasant just different and easy to get used to (as you increase the intensity of the programme your muscles will contract more - it goes up to 40!). I wore the belt whilst cleaning up and the electrodes didn't detach with activity. I haven't used it with abdominal exercises yet, but can imagine that the unit would keep in place the same way.For the money this a good unit, but only has two electrodes; you can buy more to add onto the belt from the company website (though I couldn't find them when I looked!), but if you're going to do that you might as well buy the belt with four electrodes!

I bought this belt as I have extremely weak core muscles and always did (due to unfortunate genetic reasons), but it has got worse since having children. This results in back pain and affects my mobility, as well as my ability to do even the most basic abdominal exercises effectively. While I am relatively strong and very fit in other days, having a weak core is letting me down. So my idea was to strengthen my abdominal muscles using this, to a level where I have more core strength, along with exercising in a conventional fashion. I had a similar scenario a few years back but with my pelvic floor muscles, used a pelvic floor EMS device to wake up my muscles and get me started and I was able to perform pelvic floor exercises correctly after a few weeks.I was going to get a slendertone belt but after doing a bit of research I decided on this one instead, as it seems more logical to exercise the back and abdominal muscles at the same time. Also this one was considerably cheaper (especially with a 20 percent off voucher amazon offered on the day I ordered) but had more features than the slendertone belts, such as the ability to pause the routine, the no need for gel electrodes and greater adjustability of the belt. The instructions are ok but could be more detailed and have more diagrams. 'Setting up' the belt is easy enough, insert the batteries and adjust the side straps. The side straps could have been designed better, on the left side the strap is rigid but covered with a soft tube of stretchy fabric and on the right side, which is where the belt fastens and unfastens, the strap is made from a very stretchy but sturdy elastic. I am not sure why they could not have used the elastic on both sides, as both the back and front parts of the unit tend to ride over towards the left. The rigid material used for the left strap also makes it harder to get really good electrode contact on that side. The electrode surfaces are wet with water, along with the stomach and back prior to use and this eliminates the need for gel. Wetting the inside of the belt is harder than it looks as the material is highly water repellent, but I managed to apply enough water to get it to 'work' nonetheless.I used the programme that is set to start automatically when the unit is first switched on, and put the intensity up as far as was comfortable which was ten. After my first session I definitely noticed a difference and could feel my muscles more. My stomach also feels like I have done a short abdominal workout, so I am hopeful this will work as I wanted it to. Time will tell.

The short answer to the question 'does this work?' is yes but it's more complex than that and it may not work in the way you hope.Used as described and set at a level of intensity you can only just cope with, it will challenge your abs. If your abdominal muscles can easily cope, they're not being challenged and you'll be wasting your time. That does mean that if your able to watch TV or whatever and forget the belt is there, nothing is going to happen. When you're using this properly, it will feel like you're performing a challenging abdominal exercise, like a plank. But whereas with a plank, you can only hold on so long before collapsing, using this belt allows you to sustain that agony a little longer. In time your abs will be toned and strengthened. If this appeals to you as an alternative to exercise, forget it. Your heart rate will not rise significantly, which is to say you won't be getting a cardiovascular workout and your fitness levels will remain the same. You will not burn a noticeable amount of additional energy, which is to say you will lose no fat. While it will strengthen your abs, it's important to remember that the abdominal wall is flat. Strong abs don't become prominent in the way other muscles, like your biceps, do. They only become visible when you lose the fat that covers them (after all, victims of starvation have visible abs).Using this for 30 minutes every day is actually quite a commitment. If your lifestyle is fairly sedentary, using those 30 minutes for a brisk walk will have a much greater impact on your health and fitness. But if you exercise regularly and have low body fat, this may help you tone up those already visible abs.

Very easy to operate. Comes with three batteries already included and they are very easy to install (didn't need to faff about with unscrewing any casing or anything). I've had ab belts before and in the last they always needed the conductive gel (which can run expensive) but thankfully all this needs is a little smear of water on the electrodes to operate (and his is stipulated in the instructions - when finding all in the box was the belt and batteries I got a bit concerned I'd have to go out looking for gel to test it. Once it's on, depending on the program you use, it feels like a comfortable pulsing vibrating sensation. It is very pleasant but ye higher it goes,it can be uncomfortable or unpleasant so it's worth building up a gradual tolerance rather than going all in.It should be noted if you have a heart condition you shouldn't be using these, and you can't use it in conjunction with any other electrical stimulation like a TENs machine (so you shouldn't use this while using a TENs for your pain elsewhere on the body). It is very comfortable even on me, I had some doubts it would fit as I'm not thin and usually they're intended for small toned people already - at a size 16-18 waist I figured this wasn't going to remotely fit but the straps are very elasticated and comfortable around the waist, they hold it securely to the body and the Velcro does not feel like it has give so it doesn't feel like it'll come undone from the stretch either. It'll take months to know if it's really gives me any definition in conjunction with my diet. But in the ms time it's worth mentioning it's comfortable and pleasant to use.

This is a toning belt, not a weight loss belt. It won't do a thing for you if you never exercise and eat junk food every day. I'm comparing it to a Slendertone Abs7, which I've used a lot. The two devices are similar, but they have a few key differences. This belt has four electrodes rather than the three of the Slendertone belt, which is rechargeable, while this one uses ordinary AAA-size batteries. The manual states you cannot use rechargeable batteries, though I'm not sure why that should be the case. Compared to the Slendertone, this belt feels quite clunky and uncomfortable, and it's harder to hide the fact you're wearing it. The biggest difference is that this belt doesn't require the use of annoying, expensive gel pads. Instead you just wet the electrode pads and your midriff with water. In use the belt cycles through a series of programs. There's a small display panel on the top of the controller that tells you which one you're on and how long the program has to run. The EMS applied feels different to Slendertone (I believe it uses a different frequency), though it's still powerful enough to contract your stomach muscles effectively on the maximum setting. In combination with daily exercise, it will help to tone your stomach and give it some definition. The best thing about this belt is not having to faff around with gel pads. Add to that not having to buy replacement pads, and the fact this belt is less expensive than many big-name alternatives. I would get his belt if you want to try an EMS toning belt by a major brand, but don't want to spend a lot.

This is (especially for the money) a well-made and thought out EMS toning belt. In size terms it is ample for most uses, reasonably light and made from quality materials. It comes with two pads (more in theory can be added), which unlike some do not require regular replacement or the use of conductive gels. The central control module is not large, but the buttons are ergonomic enough for easy use. Compared to more expensive EMS toning belts it doesn't have quite as many features; that said, whether you really need a significant number of extra programmes etc. is open to question. This belt provides 5 training programmes, with highly adjustable intensity for each, which should be more than sufficient for most people's requirements.Does it 'work'? As alluded to above: yes, it does. For me anyway. The programme variety is good, and the higher intensity levels are genuinely quite powerful. As in sufficient to cause muscle strain if you do not position the pads correctly (and no, that isn't a joke). Suffice it to say: position the pads correctly. It isn't difficult, the mistake was purely carelessness on my part. Speaking of which, not needing to use conductive gel makes it convenient, so all good there. A point worth keeping in mind are the usual EMS precautions: don't use on inflamed or scar tissue, don't (please!) use if you have a pacemaker etc., avoid if you have gastric conditions etc., which is largely just a matter of common sense. Beyond that: good price, well made, convenient, effective and recommended.

Firstly this is so simple to use, no messy gel pads to stick on , there are two contact water electrodes and works better by wetting your skin where they make contact. I had an older version which you had to mess about with gels, not this one makes life so much easier. If you've never used one of these belts before the instructions are not very good, very minimal in fact, so I'd go on line before you use it. It takes 3 AA batteries which are included, and very simple to put in. The belt will fit a range of sizes. I'm on the larger side and it fits well with room for a bigger person. It is a funny sensation if you've never used one, and there are varying degrees of intensity, start on the lower and work up until you find the one that's most comfortable for you. There are instruction where not to place the belt in case of injury. You can wear it around the house whilst doing chores and it does feel as if it's doing something, the midriff is my worst part and I know this won't work overnight, but do it every day or a few times a week which ever you feel comfortable with. These do work in conjunction with a diet, I've had one before bit that one broke as was full of wires but it did work. So keep going until you get the desired look you want. Great little belt folds away and doesn't take up much room. I've kept it in the box so I know where it is. Recommend for anyone trying to get rid of that little bit bulge.

I've previously used a couple of similar products to this Beurer Unisex EM39 Abdominal and Back Muscle Toning Belt. In each of those products there was a need to apply a gel to my back while wearing the belt in order for them to work. This i always found a bit messy and rather inconvenient. The Beurer belt has no need for such a gel so immediately gets a thumbs up from me.I've long suffered from back issues and found using the belt extremely therapeutic. At lower settings the pulses provide a very pleasant sensation which both relieves the dull ache in my back and relaxes me in a similar fashion to a shiatsu massage. At higher settings the pulses are a bit less relaxing but the effect of the pain relive last much longer after removing the belt.I have a 34 inch waist (at the moment!) and find the belt more than large enough for me. In fact there is lots of excess belt left over, which I do find a little awkward to keep neatly in out of the way. The supplied batteries are easy to install and the controls are very straight forward to use. All explained in the user guide provided. The LED display could be better, but that's not really a show stopper.Having used the belt every day now for a week or so, I do feel it is helping ease the symptoms of my back pain. I don't expect it to cure me. But anything that brings some degree of relief is more than welcome.

I've never used a product like this before so wasn't at all sure what to expect. I was disappointed by the instructions which I found to be too minimal for my requirements. It does assume that you know what you're doing with this belt - I really didn't. I didn't know if I'm supposed to wear it while exercising, whether I'm supposed to stand up, sit down or lie with it on - none of these concerns were addressed in the instructions. All it tells you is where not to put it and the kind of injuries it can cause if you put it in the wrong place (scary and made me VERY careful to position this correctly!) and who shouldn't use it.It takes 3 AA batteries which are included and easy to put in - thankfully no screwdriver required! It took me a little while to figure out how to get the programme started but once it had it was easy to use and comfortable. You just need to wet the electrodes and your stomach where they are going to be positioned. The belt should fit a range of sizes and was comfortable to fit and easy to adjust. There are varying degrees of intensity - I agree with the recommendation to start of easy and work up to the higher settings as they are very intense. Not sure how effective it is at toning yet, but it does feel like I'm doing my muscles some good, so fingers crossed I'll have a 6 pack soon!

This isn't the nicest toning belt I've ever owned, however it is effective and has some advantages over the big brand belt I've owned for some years now. The big name belt was priced rather more highly and uses gel patches to direct current through that require replacing, and they're quite expensive. This belt doesn't have these gel packs.Unlike my old belt, which is rechargeable and has a sort of tail with a stop-watch like connector that controls the belt, this Beurer toning belt runs on AAA batteries. Instead of a lead and hand held unit, this belt has its LED display on the top of the belt. I'm a woman who's built on the 'requires significant support' side of upper torso development, and I can't see the display panel with it clipped on to its slot on the belt, but there is a short connection cable running between the power pack and the belt itself, and the power pack can be lifted off. The belt is nicely made, and looks a bit like part of a superhero costume, with striking orange flashes to the front. The back of the belt is made from wide elastic, with a long section of hook and loop fastener, allowing for significant adjustability.

The instructions are easy to follow - although it takes a while before you actually get to the instructions as there are all the warnings of who should NOT use it first (people that are pregnant, have cardiac conditions etc. There are also other don'ts like do not use a mobile nearby, do not use a TENS machine at the same time). But that aside, it's very easy to operate. Pop the enclosed batteries in the detachable control unit, slip on the comfortable and velcro-closed belt (moisten the skin and electrodes slightly before use - no gel or other products required), and select the programme and intensity level you require and then either use it while training or when you lie back and watch yourfavourite series. It still requires some standard workout if you want definition and weight loss of course, but it can help tighten up a bit and it is also a nice comfortable training. The electrodes are well placed and there was no discomfort other than if you increase the intensity level too much without prior training. I have started at about level 20 (of 40) and it was fine - after all those warnings I didn't want to start out too hard.

I’ve used a toning belt before but with limited success so I thought I’d try a different brand. The belt has a plastic snap clip to fit on the waist and can be adjusted with a strap. After installing the AAA batteries (supplied) on the unit, just wet the patches and fasten to your waist ensuring that all pads have good skin contact. My last belt used gel to facilitate current but these don’t which does save money in the long term. The belt has a number of preset programmes differing in strength and duration and it’s good to vary them when using regularly. If you’ve never used these types of toning belts before START ON A LOW POWER SETTING and work your way up as you become more comfortable. You should limit it’s use though and most manufacturers advise not to use it more than once a day. It’s designed to contract the muscles of your abdomen intermittently and the stronger the power setting, the more it contracts. It’s involuntary contraction so be careful not to overdo it and don’t go too high. All in all it’s comfortable to wear and it’s nice that I don’t need to buy any gel, and it’s also at a reasonable price.
